Slotted up shields on a defender will net you right over 25% +def. With an IO build I have a hard time finding slots to put into the shields since I'm trying to chase perma hasten/HL and giving myself plenty of +def. On a SO build I do find I have slightly more freedom since I'm not chasing bonuses and give them an extra slot but never more than two.
Even with no slots and just a Lotg+ and nerve/agility, the shields(def values) give just over 20% +def. I'd have to say that's still a good chunk of +def. While cold's shields gives decent +def, the awesomness of its debuffs and heat loss is what makes cold great IMO. -
-
Fun tidbit: Do you know what the difference in defense between a build with the shields slotted with just a Lotg+ and nerve/agility and a build with the shields slotted with 3 lvl50 def IO's and nerve/agility is? If you guessed just slightly over 5 then you're correct. TBH sacrificing slots just to get that little bit is not worth it. I'd rather have my debuffs and blasts up quicker so enemies will be defeated quicker thus protecting my team better. I'd rather have my personal defense higher so I'll be able to survive long enough to lay down said debuffs and blasts.
-
Yeah KM has fairly quick, fluid animating attacks. CS has a longish(2.83s) cast time but man that thing hits like a truck. I've rarely done any corpse blasting with KM. As long as I can keep the PS buff up I really don't care if I occasionally corpse blast something.

Quote:Virtue you say? There are a few people who do play there too... <.<Same here with Virtue.
*Hides in fear from mentioning I play Virtue*
I've honestly toned down how much I say grats mostly due to the return to battle power. That thing looks like someone leveled if you don't pay to much attention to it. I still smile to this day when I see someone says grats because it reminds me of those creatures I farmed repeatedly in FFVIII. -

Quote:This. That's an easy fix: just roll villains. You get Invader easy that way too.
And anyone who says "Eeew, I hate villains all the zones are just like Mercy Island it suuuux!" well... Okay, fine. You don't need your shiny Patron sets, then.
I would just make it a villain, unlock the patron then go to hero side. It doesn't take that long to get up to 34.
I honestly just make all of my new alts either rogue or vig so I can hit both sides at any time. I hate being stuck on one side while some tf/sf is forming on the other and I want to stay on the guy I'm playing, H/V merits be damned. -
Quote:I hardly ever make themed characters but the first look at the pieces from the halloween pack inspired me. I made a dark/elec defender that looks like an anglerfish.I wouldn't mind seeing some silly stuff once in awhile.
That said i didn't get halloween pack since nothing in that appealed to me, but i think that was more the theme rather than the silly factor it had.
That said, if more crazy pieces got added I'd start making more themed alts. -
First off I'll just put it out there I don't like playing tanks. I don't really care for melee AT's in general so I'm not just picking on tanks. I know they're survivable since I leveled a Shield/DM to 50 and an Ice/Fire to 38 but I just wasn't that impressed with the damage. Both are great for keeping aggro while surviving and dealing some damage but I just couldn't stand playing them solo. Playing them on teams wasn't to bad but tanks just aren't for me. My point is I may not like playing them but I don't mind having them around on teams.
I would like to see their aggro cap raised a little and possibly getting a little more max hp but other than that I think tanks are fine. -
I'd vote for /EA. The defense and +rech from /EA will fit your theme.
I was holding off on rerolling my BS/Inv to BS/EA but now I just may wait to make it TW/EA. He's a homage character to Koinzell, the main character in the manga Ubel Blatt. BS/ fits his normal sword better but TW/ really fits his huge swords. -
Between Poisonous Ray and the tarantula it is a decent amount. My fastest time with mace is 3:10 while my fastest with stone is 3:30. I've never just tried the tarantula by itself to see but it helps IF it can survive. Between how much Lusca infuriated me with constantly killing my pet and wanting to solo the LG made me switch to stone. Stone is alot safer since EE is perma and I'm sitting at the hp cap and SS is crazy good dmg but sadly against a GM SS isn't so great. I wish I could fit provoke in the build to keep things on me and cut out some of that annoying GM fleeing and I just may be able to if I switch to Agility alpha.
-
Thanks alot. I think I'll be reverting to a variation of that build I used in those videos soon but first I want to get a solo MoLG done first. I think going back to mace will increase my dmg output and I may finally be able to solo the kronos titan.
As far as the debuffing of AV's cold will do better. I'm not sure on the tactics you used on romi and the nictus but that's where elec/ did really well for me.
For the pylon I like to position myself either on the opposite side of my pets or stay out of range so I absorb all the AoE's and the pets smack it around. Keeping the attacks and debuffs flowing will keep the pylon focused on you. -
If I could change power picks, I'd drop afterburner for infrigidate.
Also HAI turbo. -
Quote:This.I totally understand and absolutely agree here. Of course I take security very seriously... I have firefox set to be in permanent private browsing mode. I don't want anything to be saved in temp files.. if I want it saved I'll bookmark it. And I have a separate password for every site I log in to, so while I know remembering several dozen passwords can be difficult, I just don't trust anything. Look at how many sites have been hacked (Steam, Sony, etc). And who knows, someone at some company you do business with may not be so honest, and may use your email address and password to try to log into as many sites as they can think of. Why risk it? So you can save a few seconds entering your credentials?
While I understand wanting the cookie bug fixed, the idea of permanent login just boggles my mind.
I'm the exact same way. When I'm at home I never have any temp files and when I'm on my comp at work I log out when I'm not reading/posting and clean out my files every time I finish a session. It doesn't take long to log back in when you want to post and I don't see any reason to stay logged in so 8 hours is more than enough. The only thing I want to see is the log out bug fixed so I won't lose posts I have typed up when I hit submit reply. -
Quote:I have perma EE on my Elec/Cold and I really love the heal and +hp but I'm starting to find it lacking. I'm debating on just carrying extra greens and just go back to Mace Mastery for the extra -res and pet. Here's my current live build. I'm not super happy with Ice Mastery since I've never really had a need for Hibernate as an escape power - this is easily the safest toon I've ever played. I had Stone Mastery at one point with perma-Earth's Embrace (and perma-capped HP), I may go back to that or try out Mu Mastery to get another pet.
Anyways, I've never found a need to pursue the defense soft cap on this toon for a couple of reasons:
1) My defense numbers plus hitting mobs with -tohit means I rarely get hit anyways.
2) I can sleep a mob, then run in and drain their endurance in seconds. That means they don't use their hardest hitting attacks too often.
Nearly capping my own recharge with Ageless is nice, too.
I agree that for normal play you don't need to go for soft cap but for higher diff, incarnate trials and big game hunting soft cap and higher makes your life easier. Heck my Fire/Fire/Ice dom went with zero defense and went muscular alpha and huge amounts of +rech to kill things before they can kill me.
The sleep and sap strategy is something I've loved to use since I made my first elec/ troller. Static Field and Conductive Aura will drain quickly and even faster with Chain Fences. -
Quote:This.Yes, Power Boost only lasts 15 seconds. The key is that anything you cast in that 15 seconds doubles *for the duration of that other power power". You would be correct about the lowering of the defense if we were talking about a Toggle power like Maneuvers. But since Farsight lasts 2 minutes (1.5 minutes? I forgot) on it's own, it "keeps" the Power Boost bonus for the entire time the power is on even though Power Boost itself expired long ago.
It's a magical thing, really. -
Quote:Thank you for saying most of what I was thinking.Looking at the build, it is very good with the goals you had in mind (namely ranged defense and mez protection), however I feel you are sacrificing too much from other goals. Namely... you have no ST attack chain. I guess it depends on wether or not you ever solo or are just building for maximum team friendlyness, but I'd definitely consider going with Electric Fence slotted as an attack. If you swap World of confusion for it and slot it with Thunderstrike, you don't even lose the defense bonus.
You also skipped the AOE immoblize which, I feel, is a big mistake. If you plan on incarnating, and going with an interface that has a dot...your AOE immobilize will suddenly do OMGWTFBBQ levels of damage, to the point of wiggling down entire spawns' HP to nothing in seconds.
Speaking of incarnating, Clarion is a much better choice of mez protection imo - first of all, it is perma without needing to dedicate any slots to it, unlike indomitable will, and much higher mag protection. It also leaves you free to choose another epic pool.
I think 3 pure end mods in conductive aura is a bit overkill, I'd put the 3rd into Stamina. Hasten is also perma just with 2 recharge IOs, so you have another slot to spare.
Do you stay much at range that you need it capped? I find that 32% on ranged/meelee is enough, with Time's Juncture's providing the debuffs to put me at proper defense cap (or to cap with a small purple in emergencies). But then, I play my Elec/time as a scraptroller and charge into spawns.
Here is a build I am planning on using to attempt AV soloing like I do on my Elec/Cold. I went primal mastery for power boosted farsight which allows me to have soft capped defense to ALL and not sacrificing damage. Of course you can retool it to work in chain fences/jolting chain for more AoE. I also plan on taking agility instead of spiritual for even more defense, end recovery and sapping power.

Quote:Ever since Electric Control was released, I've found myself just like this. With the exception of a blaster I have several AT's with electric. When it was first released on doms I made a Fire/Elec then I waited till elec/ was released to doms/trollers to pick it back up. Now I have an elec/cold and an elec/time troller, an elec/fire dom, a dark/elec def and a claws/elec brute.Any and all electric sets. Driving home with the game, I wanted to make a character who shot lightning at her enemies, and so my first character was an elec/elec blaster. I made an elec/elec tanker the day Issue 16 went live, and a elec/cold troller when I got GR, as a counterpart to my ice/storm troller. I also now have an elec/elec dom (the Praetorian version of my main), and someday would like to make an elec/storm corruptor.
Also the bold section is my favorite if you couldn't tell. -
I thought about the extra lotg's in the shields but I personally don't think it's worth it. With the straight defense slotted it gives 4 extra defense to allies and the +regen bonus is worthless(+.84 hp a sec regen total from them is terrible
). The extra slot in scorpion shield could be good since it'll bump smash/lethal defense to over incarnate softcap.
After looking at Agility and reworking the OP's build I just may have to redo my Elec/Cold. I went Spiritual on mine for the awesome recharge to get Heat Loss over perma but agility is looking awfully good... -
The big thing about you dying so quick on incarnate trials is that 45% is not the soft-cap, somewhere around 59% is IIRC. I say going redside and picking up scorpion shield is the way to go. I played around with mids for a bit and here's something I came up with. It has incarnate level soft capped defense to smashing/lethal/energy and regular soft cap to ranged and negative. Also it has perma hasten and less than a sec downtime of heat loss giving you unlimited end and making room for Assault. It's more expensive but I think it's worth it. Also I did take out one range out of BIB but it doesn't decrease the range by much.
