Quote:Everyone has their own way of having fun. I don't like to stand around and mash buttons(fiteclub). I do prefer to finish a fight but I don't see anything wrong with someone taking off when they're close to dying. Breaking LoS and phasing are all valid tactics that should be used if the going gets rough. I don't see anything wrong with getting away from someone, recovering health/end and coming back for more since that's the other persons fault for not pursuing and finishing off the target. In any case, I have no tolerance for it from anyone. If you get into a PvP fight, finish it. Red or Blue, be a good sport and finish it.
Quote:It's some kind of weird mindset of "I cannot lose a fight or I might DIE IN REAL LIFE!!!" It's some kind of false honor where denying your opponent a victory means you "win" when it's just plain jerk behavior.
Quote:This game has PvP with no penalty. There's no reason not to give your opponent their deserved victory. It does you no harm at all. You lost in a match, it happens. You be a good sport and you shake hands (figuratively) and go about your day. I don't get the attitude of not being able to handle losing even once. These are the kinds of people I picture tipping over the chessboard as soon as they lose their queen. Sore losers, the lot of them.
If you don't like targets getting away then the arena is the best place to go. Playing with friends and others that share the same interests as you will help you enjoy it more. Zones have many different factors that will most likely conflict with what some people enjoy. I go to zones when I'm bored for the chaos that can take place.
Also do you still play WAR and what server do/did you play on? I used to play but I can't afford multiple MMO's atm. -
Quote:I really think that zones bring so much hate towards PvP and PvP'ers. If you like to get your feet wet and try PvP, zones are the worst place to do it. It's a good idea to go to the arena with friends or a PvP'er that is willing to help you learn. I really don't frequent zones very often anymore but I still go there occasionally when I'm bored.I really hate runners in PvP. It's disrespectful to your opponent to start a fight you have no intention of finishing if things don't go instantly your way. If you start a fight, have the backbone enough to finish it.
There was one time I was in Bloody Bay on Smurch (fire/fire dom) when he was still a lowbie, around level 15 or something. I was stealthed (Smurch has stealth) and saw a hero defender doing shivans, dont remember his level but he had at least 10 on me. I snuck up, but one of the guns saw me and shot me, breaking my stealth. I figured the jig was up, and let loose on the defender.
What proceeded was possibly one of the best battles I've had in this game. We fought all over that neighborhood bloody bay for about 10 minutes, with alot of back and forth. In the end, my lack of Endurance floored me, and I landed on the ground with an audible (local chat) "oof!" as he killed me. He said something like "owned" and I said "Poor abused Smurch!" and went back to the hospital.
After I teleported back to the base, I got a tell from the hero-player that he had a great time with that fight. I reciprocated, we congratulated each other on the licks we got in and then I left him to do his shivans feeling pretty good about myself despite the loss.
It's the one time PvP in this game ever lived up to it's promise.
I'm not that great in PvP but hell, if it'll help change others point of view towards it in this game, I'd be willing to help others learn in the arena. -
At the level of BB, I don't think any tank besides one with /SS could drop someone quickly.
Really though I don't think it's fair to say just heroes won't fight because it's equally true for villains. Since the majority of the population plays blueside I think that's why you see more heroes running away. -
Quote:You need to introduce me to this said friend. Also I need to get me a decent villain to 50 on Virtue so we can all go to zones together.Oh I have np against pvpers, one of my best friends in this game is awesome.I have pvp'd before(pre13)and have had fun.My issue is that pve content shouldn't be in the zones,it is a pvp zone so why would badges be in there? It causes friction between the pve and pvp community.
In addition it was more of an explanation on some folks that I know and their experiences with zone pvp.I don't expect ppl to change their play style in a zone that was meant for such things and everytime I enter such zones I know that I take the chance of getting killed.
I understand your points and I agree,me and the wife regulary go into zones and do what we want and have rarely been bugged.Your right on your percentages I didn't read back on what I typed(10% jerks-90% good). But,I do know alot of ppl that have had bad experiences and refuse to enter these zones. Most of the time anymore they are empty anyways. -
Here's some somewhat useful info...
If you go into a lower level PvP zone(Bloody Bay, Siren's Call, Warburg), you don't need to /whoall to tell if others of the opposing faction are a higher or lower level than you. If someone is lower or at the level cap of the zone they will con white. Conversly if someone is higher than said cap they will con orange indicating they are being malfactored/exemplared. -
Quote:This.I used it once when it first came out and haven't used it since. Rping isn't my thing and I don't enjoy moving at a snails pace so I have no need for walk.
I turned it on once, showed it to a friend and never used it since. I also don't have any female toons so that may be another reason why I don't use it. -
Also I almost forgot. Siren's Call and Recluses Victory are where the majority of people who play in zones go.

Quote:It's not really the focal point of Freedom but since it's the most populated server a majority of the PvP'ers, myself included, have toons over there just for that purpose. I do PvP, both in zones and arena, on Virtue but there just isn't as much action here as there is on Freedom. Unless you PvE with your PvP toons alot it's better to make them on a different server anyway so you'll have more slots you can make alts on.Anyway, my question is regarding PvP... most say to make a toon on Freedom for PvP but I very much enjoy sticking to one server when it comes to MMOs so I'm curious as to why that is. Do people not PvP at all on Virtue or is it just that it's more of a focal point on Freedom like how RP is here?

The contest went well with the exception of one idiot that kept bugging me to arena him till I put him on ignore.

If I run across any purples Rook I'll post them here.

Quote:The bad thing is enemy chat's default setting is set to off. So that means they are willingly subjecting themselves to said trash talk for reasons unknown. I used to say this so much I just got tired of it. Sadly it's a really big misconception that will most likely stay.Considering it's a minority of PvPers who actually engage in regular trash-talk, someone has three options:
1. Put the worst offenders on ignore
2. Turn off enemy chat for the duration of their play period
3. Ignore the alternatives, and come whining on the forums -
Figured I'd chime in and say I rolled a Fire/SS tank to play on Justice...

I just found this thread and I wanted to comment on a thing or two....
In regards to the OP's question, no they're not helping at all.
Quote:This. You do not and never have needed a billion dollar build to compete in pvp.
Quote:While i am new to PvP, i'd love to duel a SO build just for my own beliefs. I did once and owned him, so to say it don't matter, i still disagree. Yes, you can still PvP, but winning, i don't think so. Unless you're fighting another plain jane build.
Until I put purples on my Mind/Therm I did zones with it and faired better vs multiple targets since the build has phase instead of trying to rely on the temp phase like I did with my Rad/Son. I even occasionally break out my Fire/Elec dom that is pve spec'd and do decent. The bad thing is I'm not that good at pvp. The only good thing I've done in the arena is win a small pvp tourney on virtue for a costume code.
tl;dr: Practice and knowing how to play your toon makes a world of difference. Remember kids knowing is half the battle. -
Isn't Earth/Ta the most proc-able build?
-
It is my current global and my first 50. It used to be Erandil which was my very first toon I made when I moved from freedom to triumph a few weeks after I first started the game. I made him after witnessing a Stone brute wade through a map of enemies and not get hurt. I settled on the name in homage to a certain earthbending king on Avatar: The Last Airbender. Ever since I got him to 50 that's all everyone ingame has called me to it stuck.

Three pages in and no one has said that's HAWT yet... <.<

Blaze deals good dmg no doubt about that but for the majority of the time Fire Blast will be better. Fire Blast recharges 6 seconds faster, has twice the range, half the endurance and does, unslotted, a little less than blaze. About the only time Blaze is better is when scourge kicks in. Like Con and the others said in my thread Soul Storm>Anguishing Cry.

If I frankenslot Soul Storm with 2 Unbreakable's and 2 entropic's I can get the same +regen and an extra 2% +recov. Thanks for the help all.
