I'm usually of the opinion that it's best to not ever read the chat that is going on. and for the most part that's what I try to do. I know it's sometimes hard to do when there is this complete fool smack talking when he kills ya with his em/*... But if it makes them feel important. But here's the thing. Just disable the chat so you don't have to see what they are saying. They can talk all they want and you won't have to hear a word of it. You can even set up a bind for when you get a kill. Something like "Sorry but I have my enemy chat off so I won't hear what your about to call me. Have a good day." That's sure to get them mad.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nice passive-aggressive way to make the zone less pleasant for everyone else. Purposely try to get the other fella mad, by saying "HAHA! I PWND YOU BUT I HAVE YOU IGNORED SO YOU CAN'T TALK SMACK TO MEH!" but in a way that allows you to say to yourself, "at least I'm pretending to be pleasant with my smack-talk."
Bravo, sir.
The secret to not having smack-talk in the zones, isn't to couch your smack-talk in passive-agressive false-platitudes, but to simply not engage in it at all if you are truly that offended by it to the point that you have to turn off the broadcast chat completely.
Hypocrisy FTW? -
Epic potential right here.
I'm tempted to simply copy+paste various responses to this as it's come up so many times before, but *meh*
Honestly, the trash-talking is mostly from those with the least amount of skill who've found the scissors to their rock, the paper to their scissors, or the rock to their paper, and have been worked over by everyone esle in the zone. They need the people that you bring into the zone to feel good about themselves.
So god bless you, sir. You're doing the zones a service. You keep the trash-talkers coming back by coming on the boards and whining about *your friends* getting pwnt by them.
The rest of us will keep farming you both.
Or, you know, you could've spent the amount of time you wasted making this post and actually instructed *your friends* on how to get better, how to ignore the broadcast-smacktards, how to research better power-choices, how to counter certain obvious ploys, how to work together, how to not PvE and actually embrace the dynamic world of PvP.
After all, when you fail at something, it can't possibly be YOUR fault, it must be everyone else that can actually do it. It's gotta be the other guys attitude that's got you licking pavement and frustrated as hell and running to the board in defense of *your friends* and the rough treatment they received in a PvP zone.
Did that Tsoo Sorc apologize the first time he pwnd yer [censored] by healing his mates and debuffing yer acc with his storm? Did you whine at him via broadcast or these baords when he did it? Or did you knuckle down and develop a strategy on how to beat him?
Has an AV never talked smack when he spanked yer [censored]? You whine at him?
Did it help?
Make me out to be an [censored] all you want, man. I'm just another element of the game. I'm programmed to pwn you. And *your friends*
Learn to beat me.
Whining won't help.
Yes, we need more contributing PvP'ers in the zone. Yes it would be nice if there was no smack-talking, but in my experience, the smack-talking always starts by some guy getting frustrated because he keeps trying the same thing over and over, and then [censored] when it continues to fail.
"Stop sucking, n00b!" or "You got PwNd!!!" is typically the response.
And then they come on these boards and blame the responses as the reason they won't come in the zones anymore.
Well, okay. No real loss.
I just don't feel that an increase in population at the expense of actual skill and the need to coddle the lowest common demoninator will do anything at all for PvP in this game. Either bring it, or stay the [censored] home.
PvP has a DNR tag on it's toe, or its DOA. -

Thank youFlarecat and Rhynwa. I had alot of fun with that base. I was able to give a fella from the base builder's channel a tour in person
He then gave me a tour of his base. I fully intend to mimick the jail cells in the Legionaires base in another one of my projects. Thanks Lumos!
Now that the Dojo is finished I can focus on a few other projects. I'll post pics when possible.

Agree with the others, this is quite well done. Gratz! -

What happened to the nice stickied list of guides and such on this forum? It's gone from what I can tell.
*Snip* I did all that stuff & made one quite awhile back...
3.) With 300k, you can easily have a base to store enhancements and whatnot. It is very feasible.
[/ QUOTE ]
How do you efffectively use it to Store Enhancements again?
It seems like I'd have to login 2 accounts and manually hand-off the Enhancements to an Alt in the second Group to store them there.
I know this had been discussed before, but I don't recall there being a good solution to this - when the trial account expires I can't really access the 2nd group - I still have an alt from my normal account in the group, but he's the only Character that I can really use the 2nd Base's Enhancement Storage for, correct?
[/ QUOTE ]
Any person that can access the base via coalition or the team leader being in the group, can drop off storage there. Only a person in the group that has the appropriate permission can actually draw things from storage. You can use that person to mule the stuff back to the regular group and drop it off in those bins so your other characters/friends/sg mates can use it. -

What I can say from experience is stick with it. I have been working on a solo base for over a year now. I can say that I almost did the cattle call for new members on a couple of occasions. But now it is up and going with access to almost all of the zones.
Good luck with it, and if you are wondering what a year of being a slave to CoH will get you, there is a link in the sig.

i just started a solo base of my own but i am concerned about paying upkeep alone as my base grows.. Volitage, i checked out your picks and your base looks great; pretty much what im looking to end up with. how is paying upkeep now and along the way?

No rent on the first plot (8x8).
Check out the guide in my sig for making the most out of that 8x8.

Geez, with your wonderful attitude toward the other servers it really is a wonder as to why those of us not-on Freedom don't give a crap about your 2X XP weekend. </sarcasm>

I'm shocked at the number of people who have nothing better to do then come to Freedom boards and lecture it's players. If you don't play on Freedom then GTFO.

if there's really an insistance on proving this out, you don't need weeks of testing. We know that auto-demote works just fine. The variable is how *promoting* works when the SG has no top-rank present. You can test that by removing the top rank thru quitting instead of waiting for a demotion.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yer only right! I personally don't see the need to test it, but certainly can if there is still some question. I'm away from my gaming computer presently, but over the next couple of days I can certainly give it a try. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Like i said, what happened to my groups might be outdated as you said. I'm not lying when i say how the promotions worked but that was over a year ago. Something in the system may have changed since then. /bug it is the best thing i would say to do right now seeing, as at least for 3 groups ive been in, its worked the way I said, so it at least WAS working properly, something might have messed up, not even tying in with the SG vault stuff.
[/ QUOTE ]
The promotions NEVER worked the way you decribed. They have NEVER prioritized higher ranking. It has always been the next person to log on who gets promoted.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm afraid I'm with Snow/MS/Steele et al. It has never worked as you describe. I've been with Bases and SG's since their inception in the game, and the auto-demotion/auto-promotion mechanism has never worked as you describe. I have several SG's across several servers, some that are only my wife an I in them anymore. Every once in a while I go and check on the status, and it is invariably the character who was had more seniority, regardless of their previous rank, or last logged in.
There may be other variables, and I'm willing to offer up at least 5 other SG's to test/prove the point if need be, though it would of course be a several week long project as the lowest auto-demote you can select is 15 days. -
[ QUOTE ]
While your guide is certainly informative and helpful, I think Bali's point is that it would be sooo much more user friendly/intuitive/convenient to have an in game tutorial such as that which exists for the crafting of enhancements.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yah, I realize that was what he was looking for. I wasn't sure if he was still having problems, though, so I figured the point to the guide might help out. Seeing as how I can do nothing about *in game* stuff, I offered the assitance I could. -
Check out the guide in my sig if you're still trying to figure the start up stuff.
-
@bonker on Freedom, but no free slots to join other SG's there. I have alts on every server though.

Base Deco > XP
You can get XP whenever. I too have your problem. But comments like you are doing a great job and that looks awesome is going to get you hooked more.
So... without any delays. Your base is looking great Alannon! Show us more!

Indeed. The last pic actually reminded me how much I'd really like effects like mist or flames or whatnot added as a style or texture for rooms. I have a garden-type room I've been messing with for literally years now that I think would look quite awesome with a working-all-the-time-water-effect and mist.
Ahh, dreams . . . -

What I'd like for my base.
1. Bar equipment like found in the pocket D chalet. That means beer taps an liquor bottles that look like liquor bottles.
2. Billiard tables and dart boards
3. Realistic looking beds that aren't medical ones or cots
4. Statues, a whole new category that includes large and smalle, and things like gargoyles for walls and floot mounts that don't produce forcefields.
5. Kitchen items, stoves, refridgerators
6. Water effects, also a new category, fountains, pools, hot tubs, waterfalls. Splashing effects nice, but any water better than none.
7. Open sky ceiling patterns, one with clouds, one fairly clear, one with the moon and stars.
8. Larger desks so "magic desk" creations aren't so difficult.
9. An option for no trim or invisible trim for ceilings and floors.
10. Music effects for rooms, especially entertainment areas, Things like rock, jazz, classical, trance, etc.
11. Windows
12. Wardrobes that act as acess to the icon tailor.

Add a Wentworth's/Blackmarket access point and this about covers the list for most wanted base items. -

We have some great guides here now, but we're still one of the only forums without a guide sticky.
Think we have enough resource and guide links to make one worthwhile?
Post your base guides/resource links/etc. here and we'll see about getting them consolidated. I remember an effort along these lines in the past but don't recall what came of it. -

This is Awesome!! I have used this as a guide for building my small base for me & a few friends. The only thing was my friends wanted storage more than TPers, so the 2x2 workshop went in before the TP room. Now that we have One teleporter in a 2x2 room, and even managed to build an energy room & generator, I'm trying to figure out when it is best to swap out the oversight room for a control room which seems to be a 235k increase. We don't intend to sell any storage, including the vault & Invention Worktable we have in the Oversite room, so the delay is longer than if we followed your progression.
At this point, I started to check your math. In base 4b it seems you swapped the amount of energy between your Database & your rez ring (what I assume you mean by Reclamator - it becomes Rez Ring in base 9 and you fix its control) but the total amount winds up the same.
Base 5b you seem to have forgot to remove the cost of the small porter room since my total is 1,399k for the base.
Base 5b.1 you correct the energy for your Databases, but still use the incorrect amount for the Rez Ring. Also I don't know what happened to the base cost, but it seems to be off by 70K. The 70K cost & 25 Energy seem to follow through the bases until base 9 where I see you having 100 more control left over than you estimate.
The math isn't really important, but it is something you might want to look into fixing if you decide to update the guide for I9 & inventions.
Thanks again. I had problems with room placement until I read your guide. I was afraid to play with bases and delete things until I read your guide. It has helped more than any other base guide.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh wow, great catches on that stuff. I'll have a look at it and get it fixed up in the update (coming soon!).
Glad you found the guide helpful. Happy building! -
All of these special *in mission* items that have come up got me to thinking about how much stuff is really out there in the game and how, once the decision is made to actually put it into the base editor, the editor would become so unweildy (sp?) with the sheer amount of items that could be added.
Which led me to the idea of adding tabs with the name of the mission that it came from, like *office complex* *laboratory* *oranbega* *atta* *tyrant* *Statesman TF* *???? TF/SF* etc, and how these items could be unlocked after some set amount of them having been run through in SG mode?
Bah, anyhoo, prolly too much code thrown in on top, but certainly a thought on how to dvide the potential new items up into chunks. -
The hottubs from the Katie TF.
Err, I mean cauldrons.
Anything from that redcap cave map.
The big portals from the large room in the oranbega map. Or the small ones for that matter. (non-functional, purely decorative, but with the swirly stuff . . )
Blow-uppable stuff from the mayhem maps (cars, phone booth, bust stop, newspaper stands parking meters, etc).
The Asylum map stuff. Curtains, beds, medical stuff in general.
The giant throne from the Tyrant map. The lava beds too, fer that matter. Perferably with the actual "ooh ooh hot hot" lava!
Some of the Freaks stuff like you find in westarn Crey's folley, or that one badge map (name escapes me pwnz?). Graffitti'd up corrugated tin pieces. to act as seperators aor room dividers. Or the beat up stuff in the Atta mish. Off the top of my head, a couple destroyed signs, some half buried cars, a broken vending machine (OMG!), some road construction stuff.
Speaking of construction stuff, some of those random piles of girders , pipes, wood, rolls of insulation, etc (from Faultline, for instance) would be great to place in rooms that I'm still messing with to show a *under construction* status.
More later as I think of them. -
