  1. This has been bopping in my head for awhile, yet I never asked anyone. Which Brute Armors are easiest to I/O out and get "great performance" from. To be clear what is meant about "great performance" is survivability first, added damage second, extra Mez or Buffs third. the goal is to I/O the armors in as few slots as possible, therefore leaving more enhancement slots available for the rest of the build.

I run theme based characters designed around my wife's stories and my own art, so I have always come at Brutes from that angle. There are a number of reasons I gravitate to the Brute archetype specifically in the cities. Since I am determined to have a Brute, and determined to I/O it out to the 9s, I thought I should check with the community on which set of armors are "best" to do this with. I realize it might be subjective, but there must be 2 or 3 armor sets that really are easiest to work with, and one or two sets that fight you to get them smoothed out, if I know the cities at all.

    Thanks for your input folks.

EDIT: Well, dark actually has a few pretty slow attack/buffs so those would get a second or 2
I knew the declining returns were significant, but havent really graphed the formula. I'll take you at your word on it. I am not even sure this build needs a softcap, planning to run all 3 toggles, and expect quite a few minions to be mezzed a lot.

    Dark/Dark Brute

finally levelled a Dark/Dark i have had in 30-40 for over two years. Doing trials with him now, SO'd except for a few procs. I am looking at builds, have quite the store of infamy set aside to make it right. I looked at Dechs guide, and his current build. i need to look at it deeper, it made no sense to me lol. His resist numbers are nearly the same as SOs, and he is talking 55% recharge, and seems very happy. Anybody could build to around 110% recharge if they tried, don't really want to though. Basically, not sure where to go with this. I hear dark is great if you pour a ton of money into it, but seriously, I am unsure how to pour lol.

the build rides hinky, with huge swings in Health and End. At least in SO land. If I build to recharge, I can get my utility powers up more often (heal and +end). Building to softcap defense seems silly, not trying to tank with him.

basically, what is the maximum gain for minimum slots on this guy? He doesnt have to be super tank, just a very solid build, hitting that sweet spot on every statistical curve of maximum return for minimum investment would be nice. (+rech, +def, procs, etc.)
  4. Willpower. One of your big Energy Melee attacks hits your own health. With Willpower you can just ignore that part of the thing.

Also, having run both for a very long time Willpower has the edge. Crashless tier 9, etc. It does struggle a little more with survivability. There are things you can do, grab both fighting shields. Combat Jumping doesnt hurt either. Any defense bonuses from any I/O enhancers will be noticed, believe me. If you are budget minded, go just for smashing/lethal defenses bonuses. Even a few small ones will increase survivability somewhat.
  5. Yeah, not saying my machine does not get lag. C'mon, ity's CoH. the new warehouse map in Lambda is unrunnable for me. the same warehouse maps in the Prae zones are also unrunnable. But beyond the normal lag I've experienced for years with the game (Oh, that ITF valley fight...wow) it hasnt increased recently. And the game is definitely still runnable. that is why I believe something happened to your machine. p.s., I will have the monkey in the comp light a candle for ya.

I've enabled multiple instances in the launcher, so i'm not sure if anyone else has the same problem or a similar problem? I've nowhere else to turn. Help?

I don't think it's the game client. I run mine on an old thing, not sure what's inside but when a tube burns out I just replace it. So, it's probably either your hardware is fragged or your software has a switch set the wrong way/driver installed sideways/w/e. But the game is still running fine on my old box, and every once in a while the monkey inside the box even comes out and gives me a big thumbs up!
  7. Robo, where u able to load into the game with another character not in Cim? If so, did you post in help to see if anyone in Cim was having problems? Or do a seach for teammates in Cim and PM somebody? Could be a problem isolated to your server, Cim/Instance.

Very hard to diagnose since all you have said is one load in screen locks. Any other clues?

p.S. thanks Z-man for another clue on how to better get thru the game!
  8. Hami prices have dropped a lot, not always in the 2-5 million range, but often enough to check it out. But yeah, if it saves you 20 mill I get your point.
  9. You have End problems on a Willpower Brute? Seriously? I am unsure what your buildout is, so I do not know where to begin. I ran one as my main for over a year, very high recharge build, but also I/O'd out. then I have run countless Will Brutes as the engine behind SS, Energy, etc. All SO'd out. Never a endurance problem I can recall. What did you do to the poor thing?
  10. you start a cimerora arc and exit to cim that way? then quit strike force in cim?
  11. You can get to Cimerora thru Ouroboros? I knew I should have taken that left turn at Albuquerque!

If you are BAFing for 12 hours straight every day, then... um... uh... go outside!
If only you had included my entire post you would know how, er, fully?, serious I am....
  13. If you are just using 1 enhancer from a set (you do that a few times) and it is not a Proc, you should consider throwing a Hamidon enhancer in it instead.

hmm, cannot log into game to check this. So here I go anyways.

For years I have used the "Jump Pack" power (from good/evil edition) as an "overthruster" when flying. It gives a nice boost when going those long distances. I measured its effectiveness at first, using in game speed readout. Havent done that for awhile. I do however still eyeball it against other teammates speed converging on a door. It seeems to me I am still going faster when using it.

The technique is odd, I'l grant you that. Basically you start flying, get a little altitude. Aim your head slightly downward, hit jump pack, and hold down space bar. The "Jump" is added to you forward speed as long as the game thinks you are "jumping" up, which with the angle is now forward.

and that is my ghetto overthruster. i will recheck the metrics tonight. But it definitely used to make me faster.
  15. I know I'll regret asking this. Why did the Devs create Invention Origon enhancements sets for flight that have enhancers in them that do absolutely nothing?

    Elec/Elec Brute

I ran Brutes 99% time for over three years. i just did a Tank exclusively for 4 months, and now have a Blaster ( ! ) as my main.

But, ...the Brute call is strong. i rolled a Elec/Elec (I have never played either set before) for putzing around with when not doing trials/badging on my main.

Any thoughts/tips from people who know these sets? I have read the guides section, but they seem out of date.

Okay, I asked specifically if Flight Speed enhancers do nothing. Maybe I asked that wrong. I did not understand your answer. Sorry.

So, can you enhance flight speed for Fly specifically. the one person Flight power that is not Hover, in the Flight pool. Will a Flight Speed enhancer increase your flight speed?
  18. I have seen that cutscene 10-30 times a day for 2 months or so. I just got one question, "Are those real?"

  20. I use Ageless, but have not tried this trick, I definitely will though! My favorite trick in a big ugly spawn is as I see a brute/tank heading in, pop 2-3 reds, hit build up, and place myself center spawn, "Nuke", then pop a blue, and my End conserve power. This will make the recovery portion of that even better. (even less need for blues!) If my end is still hurting after Ageless, I can hit the End conserve. In fact, this will allow me to go center spawn, Ion, Nuke, Agelesss, AoEs for mop up. Always wanted to try that, and havent found a good opportunity yet. Not exactly Blapper, more Avatar of AoE Extreme damage.

It's also not something that can be banged out in an afternoon, so those important developers will have to . And pulling those devs from other projects will impact the timelines designated by the lead developers and (more importantly) the investors in the parent company, which directly affects their funding.

Chad, we seem to be agreeing. In my second post I said this:
I suspect the Devs have no ability to fix these problems without a ton more resources than they have. No doubt, all programming resources are now being devoted to i21. Any i20 problems are like random rat meat in sausage, too bad, but you either eat it or don't.

k, logging out of this thread until the conversation moves round quite a bit.

    P.S., seriously, stop the anti-disestablishmentarianists.

Guess that was not my final post. Okay, if you do not "send a guy (or gal) to fix it", how would it get fixed? I have never seen a problem that magically fixes itself. If you do not send someone to fix it, exactly how would this get fixed?

Besides which, if you read my posts you will see that I actually think these kinds of problems probably cannot be fixed. It would appear that the game has been coded in such a manner that the hardware cannot handle it, and the Developers either do not have the budget for a hardware upgrade to fix the problem, or that hardware actually does not exist that can run this.

Again, I circle back to the very plain evidence staring at all of us. There is lag in the Hamidon Raid, the Ritki mothership raid, and the ITF valley. You no longer experience any/most of it. Good for you. Gratz. Talk to some other players, it still exists. Since the lag exists, and has for years, it establishes very clearly a pattern of the Devs ignoring these types of problems. This is simply the truth.

    P.S. stop the anti-disestablismentarians.

Also, it would apparently be the early 1980s, and the game would be on an Apple IIe or Tandy. Nobody in the current industry has the necessary expertise to fix every cause of this slowdown.

It's very likely a problem with intricate ties in AI, mapping, networking and hardware. You show me a video game programmer who's an expert in all that and can extrapolate a solution from just seeing this "issue" five different times on wildly different hardware, and I'll show you a dude who's about to end up in a government think tank with a 6+ figure salary.
This will be my last post to this thread. Let me be extremely clear. There is a gigantic amount of lag in the Hamidon raid. There is an unbelievable amount of lag in the Ritki mothership raid. There is very bad lag in the ITF valley. In every single one of these situations there have been uncountable bug reports sent, unknowable community threads started, and unbelievable requests/demands/begging to the Developers to fix it. Not a single one of these problems have moved an inch towards being solved. Based on this evidence, provided to me by the Developers and the community, it spells out very clearly that the Lambda and the BAF either cannot, or simply will not, be fixed. Getting mad at me for pointing this out is as silly as getting mad at snow falling on you after ignoring the freezing temperature, the snow clouds, and the barometer.
  25. Look. I am seriously not trying to be snarky. Lets keep it real. Take one programmer. Have him run 5 Lambdas, 5 BAFS, with varying machines, high end to low end. (low end being 2gig ram, moderate fast processor, older graphic card) BAM, problem identified. Then, have him fix it.

I have worked in problem solving offices for over 25 years. If you want to know what a problem is, try doing what your customers are doing. If you want something to work and it has to be right, no mistakes possible, then build it that way. If you have to correct something built wrong, look at the problem very carefully, and try figure out the simplest solution that fixes the maximum amount of the problem. This, literally, is not rocket science.

This thread is nice, touchy feely. But, lets keep it real. The Devs have shown a gigantic willingness to let stuff like monumental server side lag in the Hami raids, Ritki Mothership raids, ITF valley go on for years, basically since each event/trial was added to the game. There is no evidence I have seen in the game that they are willing to address past errors. Fixing Positron TF was the only thing I can recall that addressed any problems from previous issues. That specifically was not fixing a technical problem, but a game design choice. I suspect the Devs have no ability to fix these problems without a ton more resources than they have. No doubt, all programming resources are now being devoted to i21. Any i20 problems are like random rat meat in sausage, too bad, but you either eat it or don't.

If you think they are going to fix the BAF and Lambda you believe every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings. Sorry Clarence, it ain't happening.
