Here are a few of mine:
Terra. I even wrote a MA Arc about her because I thought that one thing we should be able to do in the game is restore her to normal ... at the very least, I thought that there's a certain one-time only Hero who appears in a DE-Themed Villain Arc who I would have replaced with Terra if I were in charge.(Think how cool it'd be if Terra regained her human individuality and wound up fighting Hamidon for leadership of the DE!)
Night Fox. We never see him in costume, and his "Fox Den" is nothing more than a generic cave map, but this guy has the potential to fill in the role of a "Batman Dark Knight Returns" type hero ... (makes mental note for possible MA arc).
The Heroes and Villains you meet during the Safeguard/Mayhem missions. Some of them are pretty darn generic, but a few are kind of interesting, and I'd like to see more of them. (I really feel sorry for poor Doc Quantum!)
How about you? -
This isn't quite the same thing as you're talking about, but I have a Rad/Rad Corruptor named Human Reactor. He's based on a character I made in high school some twenty plus years ago who gained his powers after being accidentally bombarded by a special kind of radiation that gave him the ability to generate tremendous amounts of energy, but also left him unable to exist in the outside world without wearing a special protective suit that cut him off from all physical contact.
To make him a villain and to fit into COX Lore, I made him a former Crey Employee who went a little bonkers when he found out that his "accident" was no such thing. Imprisoned for his crimes, he went bad in spite of the fact that he originally risked his life to save other people by voluntarily entering the irradiated control room to shut down the reactor before it could destroy the city.
About a year or so after I made this guy, I found myself thinking, "Oh crud. This sounds a lot like Positron's origin!"
Nowadays, he doesn't wear his containment suit very often. Since he went evil, he's not as concerned with dosing innocent people with radiation. -

Quote:There's a difference between expecting there to be people playing for three weeks and there not being anyone who's been there less than FOUR years. So you don't think it might have been anything to do with veteran players being more likely to attend something like that then someone who's only been playing for three weeks?
I'd be a bit happier if there had been some one or two year veterans ... -
One thing that struck me recently was one of Positron's tweets where he stated that everyone he met at PAX was a plus four year veteran.
That's not a bad thing, but it is indicative to me that the people playing now are the Diehards who are going to be here till they close the servers.
I don't know if Going Rogue is really going to bring in new players. I'd hope so, but I won't be too surprised if it doesn't. Even with shiny new graphics it's going to be hard to attract more players. -
I have run a number of Statesmen TFs on different servers as a Stone/Stone Tank, a Rad/Rad Defender, an Empath/PSI Defender, and a couple of Illusion/Kin Trollers. (I dual boxed once with my Cold/Ice Defender, but only because we were one person short for the TF and couldn't get another warm body.)
My Rad/Rad is designed to run TFs, and there has only been one failure with him on a TF, and that was because we had about 5 tanks, 2 scrappers, and me, and we just couldn't take down Ghost Widow.
Ghost Widow and Mako tend to be the roadblocks to doing the Statesman TF. Your team may blow through everything else, but those two can stop a lot of teams that aren't prepared for them. (Mako is specifically why my Rad/Rad has Leadership.)
Having been on TFs that have spent better than an hour trying to take down Ghost Widow in the past, I can well understand the frustration that arises from not being able to finish.
And for the most part, I love all three of the level 50 TFs (Lady Gray, ITF, SF), but I do have to admit that sometimes I feel sort of boxed in terms of the toons that I can play on it. I may want to get the badge for one of my Scrappers, but if I've just spent the better part of an hour asking strangers to do the TF, then I feel obligated to make sure that the people who agreed right away can get their badge for sticking with me for the time it took to build a team, so I may wind up running my Rad/RAd if there's no other debuffer on the team.
But to be honest, my frustration with such things tends to stem more from a lack of consistent teammates than anything else.
Hm. You know that might make for an interesting challenge. What's the gimpiest team that can complete the Statesman TF?
I think I've been on teams that did it without debuffers or Shivans, Warburg Nukes, or someone with the Leadership path, but I can't remember if I've ever been on one that lacked ALL of those things. -
Gregor Richardson doesnt seem to see the image in the painting, so Dalton does not tell him what he sees. He does not tell him about the voice in his head, or the chill hand that seems to touch him just when he starts to relax. It is not the voice that tells him not to do this; it is some inner instinct.
And in a sense, Gregor himself.
Look, mate. I am not your friend. I am not your bloody Yoda. I got you out of a bad spot because the Craft required it.
Thanks a lot. Dalton does not try to hide his anger.
Your welcome. Gregor shrugs. For what its worth, heres a bit of advice: dont go home.
What?
You cant go back to your old life. You cant see your family or friends again. Thats where theyll be looking for you.
They?
The Circle of Thorns. The Banished Pantheon. Theyll want you just to add your magic to their own. The Legacy Chainll hunt you down just because they find your magic evil. Go home, and you dieor wish youre dead.
But I didnt do anything! I didnt want this! I didnt ask for this!
Martin moans suddenly.
Your friend there didnt ask to die, mate. Thats life. We dont always get what we want. You play the cards youre dealt with or you lie down and die.
So what am I supposed to do?
Get out of my house tonight, for one thing.
Dalton clenches his fists.
All right, all right. Dont look at me like that, mate. Why couldnt Azuria have wound up having to deal with you? Gregor rubs his forehead with both hands and looks to heaven as though searching for some answer. All right. Mercedes.
What?
Mercedes Sheldon. A Brit. Bit of a stuck up rhymes with itch, if you wanna know the truth. She joined the Midnight Club not too long ago.
Midnight Club?
A bunch of magicians and sorcerers. Theyre no friends of the BP or the COTs, and theyre not as lily white as the Legacy Chain. Mercedes supposed to be on the side of the angels, but shes got a thing for bad boys and black magic. Gregors smiles knowingly. Shes probably the best chance youre going to have of finding someone who knows something about necromancythat wont plan on feeding you to some kind of demon or dark godling. Ill call her and arrange a meeting for you.
Thanks.
Just disappear and never darken my door again and Ill be thanked enough. Gregor makes a face. Im going to have to fumigate this place to get the zombie stink out of it.
Martin groans and something like a scowl passes his normally blank features.
Kid. One other thing.
Yes?
Youre a necromancer who hasnt studied the art. Thats dangerous.
Dangerous?
Yeah. Normally someone has to spend years of study before he can raise his first zombie. You did it without thinking, without being able to control it. Offhand, I can think of only two ways thats possible.
Im listening.
The first one is that youre a reincarnation of someone who was a necromancer in a past life. You dont know how you know it, but you do. When your life was threatened, instinct brought the power back.
And whats the other way?
Someone gave you the knowledge. Ive heard that some sorcerers try to encode their magic genetically into their family line.
Why would they do that?
If it was something other than necromancy I might suggest some kind of altruistic motive, but people who raise the dead arent known for their benevolence. Gregor stares at him with hard, cold eyes. If someone wants you to be a necromancer, I would expect thats because they want you to raise them from the dead -
Quote:Having been on a badge spree yesterday I can testify that the COTs are very strong in the Abandoned Sewer Network. Next time I need to grab the Mage I'm going down there. There were TONS of them there ... whole mobs of nothing but Mage Bosses ...Which is kinda odd, as the trend seems to be do reduce their presence - first they were totally kicked out of Faultline, then they were squeezed in the Hollows with the zone revamp, with the Legacy Chain, plus rival gangs, moving in on their turf.
Perez Park seems about the only place where they're really strong now. -
Quote:It's been a while since I did the ITF, but doesn't Romulus actually say "I am Nictus!" after he's infused with the power in the cutscene?*points at sig - Kheldian backstory guide*
Shadowstar, the Warshade contact, specifically - the Kheldian has been around since at least ancient Egypt. The host, no - in fact, part of the story arc revolves around the current Shadowstar's daughter being slated to be "the next Shadowstar."
And no, it is not stated that Nictus (or Warshades) have a shorter lifespan. Their experiments that turned them INTO Nictus were meant to extend the lifespan from the short natural Kheldian lifespan, not least from siphoning it from other Kheldians - but there's nothing there about it being shortened itself (barring war, weakness from Cyst travel, etc.)
As far as the name - the NPC is named Romulus Augustus before becoming Nictus. That's all we have to refer to him as in any case just *after* the merge - he doesn't suddenly say "I am now Biggus!" or some such. While I wouldn't mind seeing a progression over time, there's no reason to say the name's "anything but similar." It'd be like me insisting the Hispanic father living a few miles away named Jesus is the same person the Christian faith is based around.
Maybe he's a Nictus named Nictus.
Yeah, Shadowstar does indicate her hosts change from time to time, but Requiem's lifespan has been extended by SOMETHING-- he's pretty spry for a guy who'd have to be close to a century in age.
Okay just checked the Paragon Wiki entry on Kheldians. It indicates in there that at unbonded Peacebringer lives for about 10 years; Nictus possibly only for 5. (Knew I had seen that somewhere), and that it appears that the hosts obtain a longer lifespan as well.
Let's take your example a bit further and say that your Hispanic neighbor is walking on water and turning water into wine, then might you find it a little bit of a coincidence that his name is Jesus?
If the Romulus hero that we fought in COV was a BS/Shield Scrapper or a Fire/Devices blaster then no one would say, "Oh, these two have to be related somehow!"
But Romulus is a Warshade, a reformed Nictus. Don't you find it a bit anticlimatic that the Nictus Romulus and Warshade Romulus have NOTHING to do with each other?
And if you don't, that's fine. None of us are saying, "OMG! The Devs suck 'cause they used the same name twice for two different characters!"
We're saying that we think the story would be better if they were the same guy.
And that's the point we're making. We KNOW they aren't. We're saying that we think they SHOULD be.
And I think that's my final word on the subject. -
Just had a thought.
Anyone else kind of wish that Going Rogue could involve Task Forces where Player Heroes REDEEM Desdemona and Player Villains CORRUPT Maelstrom? -
Quote:Well, no. If they had different names this never would have come up.First off, would you even be asking that question if they had two different names?
I mean, no one would ever say "Gee, what's the point in having Lady Jane and Maria Jenkins be two separate characters?"
Secondly, it serves the purpose of telling their respective stories. Each Romulus has his own part in the lore and merging them doesn't really fit with the stories the devs are trying to tell. It serves the purpose of having two completely different characters instead of one. It gives twice as many possibilities since now the characters can be written how ever the devs want instead of having to always consider, ohh gee, well Romulus USED to be this way, how would we explain why he is so different now etc.
But as Warshades are REFORMED Nictus and we face a Nictus VILLAIN in the PAST with the same name as a Warshade HERO in the PRESENT some of us feel that it would be much cooler if these two guys actually had some sort of connection as opposed to simply being the Devs using the same name twice.
IMO-- and just IMO--I think the story would be much better if we actually got to see IN GAME a Nictus go from Villain to Hero. (If I were in charge, there would be an Ouroboros TF where you help reform the Nictus Romulus in yet ANOTHER time so he becomes a hero that helps you in the final mission of the TF, but that's just me.)
You may not agree. That's fine. But some of us do feel there's potential for a good story that the Devs are ignoring here. -
I've said in the past I'd love to have my Phantom Army and Phantasms look like my Illusion Controllers (also wanted the same thing for my Thugs MM).
Though if you had Dops casting their own Dops casting their own Dops ... -
Quote:When two characters have the same name, chances are that it's probably just a coincidence. When two characters have the same name and *both of them are hosts to Nicti?* Less coincidental.
The (current) official word may be that they are not in fact connected in any way. But it still carries the gusting stench of either a naming flub behind the scenes or a storyline that was started and then abandoned.
This.
The whole Warshade gimmick of them being reformed Nictus lends itself to Romulus the Warshade being Augustus. The fact that he isn't according to Manticore seems very sloppy to me and counter intuitive.
It'd be like having a new NPC named Martin Cole show up who has electric/invulnerability powers who favors red and blue and calls Ms. Liberty "Cousin" turn out to be someone totally unrelated to Statesman. -
Quote:My own theory is that one of the Devs has an old flame named Penelope. Now, onto my theory of how Penny Preston and Penny Yin are the same person!
In addition to Penny Preston and Penelope Yin, there's also a Penelope Nemmers you fight in Croatoa. (Named Ghost Boss). -
-
Gregor flatly refuses to let Martin get into his car. Dont worry, mate. You cant lose him if you try. When we get where were going, hell be there.
Why are you helping me?
Thats a good question, mate. See, MAGIif they knew about youwould want your butt hauled off to the Zig so fast itd make your head spin.
Why? I havent done anything!
Its what you are, mate. Its what you are. Ever seen a heroic Necromancer? Zombies are filthy, disgusting thingsand most blokes are going to see you as being no better than poor old Matthew.
Martin! His name is Martin!
Was Martin, mate. Now hes just your pet zombie.
Hes not my pet! Hes my friend!
No, no he isnt. Thats not your friend anymore mate. Thats whats left. The meat. Everything that made your friend who he washis mind, his soulits all gone. Hes just a big rotting meat puppet now. The sooner you accept that, the better off youll be.
So why are you helping me? Why do you care? I thought you worked for MAGI.
I work with MAGI. Not for them. And you want to know why Im helping you? Ill show you. Gregor pulled the car into a garage and turned off the engine.
Martin came crawling out of the ground as soon as the car came to a stop.
Whathow did he--?
Hes bound to you, mate. Hell follow you no matter where you go. If you go faster than he can move, hell come right out of the grave to be with you. Touching, reallyin a creepy sort of way.
Martin stands swaying as though hes about to fall over. There isnt much left of the man he had been left in that gaunt frame. It was only because Dalton had known him so long that he recognized anything in him now
Come with me to my studio.
Your studio?
Im an artist, mate. I paint. Its my passion. My avocation. Magic is just what I do to earn mbread and cheese.
With Martin stumbling behind them, they go into the spacious art studio of Gregor Richardson. Theres countless paintings on the walls, and a few on easels that are half completed. Most of the paintings are of Paragon Citys greatest heroesStatesman, Maiden Justice, Manticore
Why are there so many paintings of that woman? Dalton thinks that hes seen pictures of her in the papers and in television interviews.
Azuria? Never you mind about that. Gregor seems rather testy about the subject. I painted all these pictures. All but this one. It paints itself. He pulls back a black cloth
And Dalton sees himself in the alley. Martin is rising from the dead behind the Skulls that killed him.
It told me that I had to go after you.
But as Dalton watches, he sees something else form in the painting. Something behind him.
A large dark figure in robes. It has a hand on Daltons shoulder in the painting, and its head is thrown back in a laugh.
I am with you, Dalton Grimm, the voice whispers into his mind. I will be with you always, and we will do great things together
And Dalton feels a cold touch upon his shoulder -
Quote:Mercedes Sheldon's arc always takes me to Talos to stop the Dirge of Chaos, and that involves a radio station.Flashrains - Yeah, but I'm trying to keep him in Paragon City proper.
I'm going to say that I would put any television station operating in Paragon in Talos. -
Quote:It's been inconsistent as to whether or not having a Kheldian actually extends the human lifespan. It definitely increases that of the Kheldians themselves-- a Peacebringer who doesn't bond has a life span of about 10 years, a Warshade three ... when they bond, they're practically immortal.Seeing as Augustus is twelve feet tall and made of rage while Romulus the Warshade is merely six feet tall and is relatively calm, I'd say that there may be an issue there.
I'm also relatively certain that the 5th gave Augustus some Ubermesch treatments to get him to his current height. So unless those wore off after the several thousand years between then and now....
Also, how long can Kheldian hosts live?
When I say that Romulus the Warshade should be the same entity as Romulus from the ITF, I mean that the Kheldian portion should have been once bonded to the human Romulus. -
Boy I hope a DEV reads and answers this ...
Both Positron and War Witch state they would prefer to concentrate resources on making new zones rather than revamping old ones because it's easier to do so.
I'd like to know why it's actually easier to make a new zone than it is to revamp an old one? What does a revamp involve that making a new zone doesn't? -
Quote:Yeah, that's what he said.Manticore has stated that the Romulous Warshade and Romulous we fight in the ITF are two seperate people, they have no relation beyond having the same name.
And I wish we could get him to change his mind.
The whole thing premise behind Warshades is that they are reformed Nictus.
So why can't we have a Nictus we fight in a TF thousands of years ago reform now and become a good guy? What purposes does it serve to have them be two different guys? -
Quote:What's the correct way?The geysers take you exactly where they are supposed to... as long as you enter them the correct way.
There are only TWO geysers in all three (four?) Shadow Shard zones that don't go anywhere. The rest all go exactly where they are supposed to.
Isn't it you follow the trail of the path onto the geyser without any travel powers on? Didn't even have sprint on, and I kept missing where I was trying to go ... or anywhere, really.
Of course maybe I was using the same geyser you're talking about that doesn't go anywhere. -
Quote:I'd like to imagine that Rularuu is in his own death star, and that in order to even get inside it, a whole bunch of teams have to defeat the outer defenses, plant some bombs and/or click some glowies somewhere.
EDIT: And heavily guarded by Shard Reflections of Jack in Irons, Eochai, The Winter Lord, Deathsurge, and the Khronos Titan. And inside, there's a weakened reflection of the Hamidon that must be destroyed, that will finally summon Rularuu the Ravager upon defeat.
This also leaves such raids very open to lots of Star Wars references on the Broadcast channel.
That would be a cool TF, but there'd have to be some kind of reward that would make it worth it to marshal those kind of resources. -
Quote:That is the one thing they need to fix there. I was actually in the Shard with my Super Speeding Elec/Elec Scrapper, and if it wasn't for my jetpack I would have had a very frustrating time. I would go on a geyser that seemed like it should take me to another island, and I'd wind missing everything entirely.Have you been back to the Shard since they changed the mini-maps? The maps now show most of the gravity geyser routes, which makes navigating (at least in Firebase Zulu and the Chantry) easier.
At the very least, I wish they'd set it up so every geyser would cause you to land on an island. Maybe not the island you wanted, but at least you wouldn't go hurling down into space.
Aside from that, though, the Shard was pretty cool after a long absence from it. -
Blue Battler wears armor forged by his mother to fight against the Rikti. (I wanted a male character whose powers stemmed from something his mother did because you don't see that in comics very often.)
Bedrock Blue is a former Outcast Lead Brick who was too smart to stay working for Frostfire, and left after getting the cash he needed to go to college to become an accountant ... and then his office was attacked by the Devouring Earth. His mutation prevented him from being taken over by the DE, but he gained the ability to transform into a Granite-like creature.
I have a few others, but those are the ones who leap to mind.
