  1. I'm well aware of westboro. Yet for some reason college graduates and professors at the university I go to make absolutely no effort to distinguish westboro from the rest of the planet that is religious. Pisses me off...
  2. It is really hard to pick just one set, since there are so many fun ones. I've only tried out a few sets, too, so this is all subject to change. Right now, my two favorites are Gravity Control and Storm summoning. But not together.

Gravity control is one of my favorites for three reasons: Lift, Singularity, and Wormhole. Lift is a fun power with a tiny mez effect. I just love seeing the enemies suddenly fly up and smash their head on the roof of a cavern with a flick of my wrist. Great DPAT, too. Singularity is arguably the most awesome pet in the control sets, boasting tank like resistances, good supplement control powers, nice damage, and that wicked repel + knockback effect that can single-handedly stop approaching swarms. Singularity is basically a second troller on the team.

But, the focus of the set is undoubtedly Wormhole. As new I-trial content is made, this power just becomes more and more awesome. It is a group mez + group relocation power, and in open air maps it is a damage power if you shoot them straight into the air (It's raining men!). You can use it offensively and port groups around a corner into hazards, you can use it defensively and port enemies very far away or off cliffs/buildings, you can use it tactically to relocate area-specific enemies in I-trials. The hilarity of the entire group slowly realizing what was happening right when they port into the air and fall into the abyss never gets old. When I first got wormhole, I must've spent an hour in Cap Au Diable just teleporting enemies as high as I could get them, and watching them die due to fall damage.

I can't wait for I22 to improve wormhole. I already have the set, so everyone gets to watch me as I throw enemies around like ragdolls.

Storm control has a similar set of toolbox powers. But the thrill of storm summoning isn't the particular usefulness of the powers, but the feel of the powers. When you let lose Hurricane and Tornado and Lightning Storm, you just feel like you're indestructible. Though those powers can be a tad bit annoying for a group, they both feel powerful and are powerful. Hurricane can easily be slot for enough -tohit to let you tank as a troller. Tornado can either scatter aggro and mez enemies, or it can do a ton of damage when paired with -KB or against EBs and AVs. Lightning storm throws enemies about, does damage surprisingly quickly, and can even mez when paired with the right procs.

Combine that with Freezing Rain and Steamy Mist, and to enemy groups the Storm troller/defender/dom must look like the angel of death.
  3. The most annoying things tot happen tot Stalkers was how every minor form of DoT breaks their stealth, and thus their assassinations. Whenever I'm fighting something that has, say, a fire attack against my stalker, the battle is always about how I have tot wait 10 seconds between each time placate recharges just for their DoT to finally cut out. Caltrops completely murders the stalker mechanics.

Again, not sure how tot fix this, though. I'd like for there tot be a threshold for which damage needs tot be above to remove the hidden status, but I don't think that is possible tot program.
  4. I consider their ages, but I don't age them. Generally there is a progression of events and circumstances that follow through, and this implies a time dimension, but I never actually say "O.K., this one is old enough to drink now so they become alcoholic".

Not sure if trolling, but in case you really didn't see it, the television montage where the protagonist is contemplating suicide has religious protesters and cuts immediately a picture of Obama modified to look like a Nazi. Later on in the film it shows the protagonists doing a drive by of said protestors.
  6. There are a couple of things you can do. Generally, on defense tanks you want to build toward some alternative form of mitigation other than being indestructible. What you can do is give your tank soft control powers that are meant to slow down incoming damage. You can take the healing pool and six-slot aid self to heal the few attacks that get through.

For build purposes, you'll want to go with max HP, but if you have a control power somewhere you can also build for recharge.
  7. Well, I just checked and now my computer is 10.6.8

Bad news is, I'm going to get another computer in about a month or so, so there is no reason to chuck $30 into this computer.

    Well, nice playing with everyone.

The DD trial is not meant for people well into the incarnate system. It is the end path of a short arc in Dark Astoria that in no way will let players get themselves to an adequate level to which they can complete it. Dark Astoria being the solo-able path for incarnates.
  10. Interesting movie, but a lot of the context says the movie is politically loaded, so instead of enjoying the fantasy of shooting annoying people I'll just be angered because half the people they shoot are crude straw-mans that people call me, and would rather take a bullet to the head than admit they are wrong. It gets pretty annoying when every single hit movie and TV show is, yet again, a dig against the religious or the conservative.
  11. Heh... all this reminds me about how my canonically overendowed character is on a breast reduction diet to deal with back problems.

Anyway... I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. My exposure to this atmosphere has given me a rather different standard to what is appropriate and what is common attire for women and men. A very relaxed standard, it is. I hear on talk shows about fashion where a bunch of women are arguing if a dress is showing too much, and all the while I'm thinking "Whats the problem? I saw a dozen chicks dressed like that an hour ago!" From tight fitting clothes that teach me the intricate anatomy of reproductive organs of both women and men, to the simple absence of clothing at all, I'm used to it all now. Not to mention that Vegas gets hot as hell in the summer, and even I consider walking around in nothing but jean shorts despite my horrendous body. If you ever go to an art convention here, watch out and be prepared for nude body paintings, anatomically correct sculptures, public airing of R-rated movies, and 100-image collages of Winnie the Pooh modified to have all the naughty giblets front and center.

My standard for what I consider appropriate attire basically follows this logic chain:

#Can I see your naughty bits, either directly or indirectly?
    *If yes, inappropriate.
    *If no, appropriate.

Where the amount of skin shown is really only relevant if the person showing the skin is too ugly to be doing so. So, when I saw Power Girl, I didn't have a single issue with it. When I heard people had a problem with her, my first thought was "Wait... people have a problem with this?" and my second thought was "...Why?". To this day, I have to try and force myself to see it the way other people do, which equates to me repeating jaded standards unempathetically while secretly wishing for those people to shut up and quit demanding that I care. I think I get some of it... I suppose.

But my poor sister... She was raised in the exact same place I was, and the upbringing has had a drastically different effect on her. She has developed quite the self-image problem despite the fact that she isn't ugly even in the buxom bimbo fest standard known as Vegas. Her behaviors perplex me, and I'm never sure exactly what her reaction is going to be to whatever image show up in whatever media we are exposed to. Whenever she goes feminazi on me it is annoying, but I usually let her do it just to vent some steam. I'm not sure if I can figure out her position, either: It is O.K. to dress hot but you can't do it because it means you're trying to appeal to men as objective sex object but you still want to look attractive so do it to appeal to women? It is bad that media always chooses attractive women but is it O.K. in the practical sense that you don't want to stare at ugly women the whole time? Is it not O.K. for an unattractive woman to be a plot point if it is played by an actress that can look nice when not dressed down, or is it an insult to unattractive women to cast them in a role depicting such? It is O.K. for a woman to be attractive unless she is animated/otherwise fictitious then it isn't O.K.?

I'm pretty sure I have the core cause nailed down. The phrase goes "Never is a man more angry than when he is jealous". Can't remember who said it (think it was God). Part of the apparent confusing ambivalence that surrounds her is that there are two opposing ideals at war. The first is the ideal of superiority via different pursuits; basically by not being part of the system focused so heavily on shallow appearances by substituting loftier goals like careers and education, the person becomes better than the system and thus not subject to its standards. The second is the ideal of acceptance; the shallow system is ubiquitous and the accolades given to whomever has that unrealistic standard are nonetheless real, sincere, and a benefit to pursuing other goals.

It's the old case of Id vs. Superego, sans the rest of the creepy wrongness of Freudian logic. In her head she thinks that it is better to follow through on other things than aesthetics and it is better to do so, but her gut reaction and self-esteem issues still has her yearning to be a tall, buxom blonde who garners the lust of men at large. As interesting as that all is, however, it doesn't put me one step closer to solving this dilemma. So now, I just see how often it is I can apply it to other women. It works... way too often. This conflict is definitely a widespread phenomena.

But on to the topic at hand: I do wonder if "sexist" in this content is supposed to just mean "showing skin" or if it is blatant discrimination between genders. And if so, is it discrimination to have women show more skin than men, or is it merely different from the skin-tight outfits that male superheroes wear. To this, I agree a lot with what Arcanaville had to say.

    Incarnate Trials

The thing with the I-trials is that the info comes at you way too fast to just learn as you go on your first runs. It is best to take initiative and read up on what you are supposed to do on the trials.
  13. Since the most recent update, the game will go into a strange "forever loading" thing where I can't do anything. It displays only a black screen. If it is in fullscreen mode, the computer is essentially frozen, and CoH cannot be force-quit. If it is not in fullscreen mode, then I can force quit CoH but I cannot quit it regularly.

I've tried a few things, such as turning down graphics and making sure no other programs are open, but that doesn't seem to help. On the activity monitor, CoH quits taking up any of the threads and just sits there dead.

Anyone know what is going on? I'm using 10.6.7 on a 13" Macbook with a Intel Core 2 Duo processor and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M Videocard.

    KM question

The chance is base 10% with +3% for each teammate that is "near" you. So on a full team of 8 it has a 34% chance of getting a critical hit.
  15. If you are willing to have multiple builds, you can always run both.
  16. One of the issues I have so far is that a lot of these suggestions are to just remove the -KB aspect from Frostbite but that won't really solve the problem that Ice Slick has. While running in teams, Ice Slick immediately loses effectiveness anytime anyone uses any AoE Immobilize, so Ice Slick finds itself obsolete on many teams just because someone won't stop firing off their immobilize.

The -KB from Frostbite has it's uses. I run an Ice/Storm troller, and the best way to do damage for that set is to use frostbite to lock the enemy down, then fire off a tornado into the group. The -KB makes it so the tornado doesn't throw enemies away, and thus causes a high DoT effect. This is just an example, but I am sure that other sets have combinations where the -KB effect is beneficial.

The best way to fix Ice Slick is to just tweak Ice Slick by itself. How to do that, I am not sure of, however.

An easy way of doing it (my way) is to just build up liquidity over time via trading. Nearly all that you need can be bought at the market. Sell the recipes you don't need on the market, sell the salvage you aren't using on the market, ect. But, there are a couple of easy ways to build up the raw cash that you'll need to get the IO sets you want.

#1: Random Recipe Reward from merit vendors. This is very risky, since you aren't sure what you'll get, but if you can get lucky you can easily turn 100 reward merits into 300 mil. Generally the recipe range I go for is 25-29, since those offer things like Miracle and Luck of the Gambler.

#2: Targeted Recipe Sales. Can easily be done with either hero merits or reward merits. What you do is buy a high demand enhancement recipe (currently Miracle + Regen level 20 sells for 100-150 million, which is the one I'm going for now) with your merits, and then you can craft and sell that for enough profit to afford several lower demand sets. Unless you are going for the most expensive sets, 100 mil is generally sufficient to give IOs to all of the powers that it is worth to put them in.

#3: The grind. This is a bit longer, but let me explain. Most rare IO enhancements (or at least the ones I buy) sell only for a few mil. After a long time of playing and selling stuff, you have probably gotten enough cash on at least one of your toons to buy what you need EXCEPT for those high-demand pieces. These are the pieces that you need to grind for, and this can be done in three ways. Hero/Villain Merits, Astral Merits, and Reward Merits. IMO, the best way to do that is in the order that I listed them, but if you do nothing but play the game all day then Astrals are probably much quicker than alignment merits. Also, by doing the SSA on a Hero or Villain aligned player, you can get alignment merits VERY quickly.

#4: Get lucky. If you play at 50 enough, you'll probably get a purple IO recipe, and those can sell anywhere from 50 mil to 600 mil. One Ragnarok and suddenly you can IO out four toons.

In general, check the prices of certain IO enhancements you think will sell for a lot before you go out to get that one. For the salvage, all of it can be bought at the market.

It is very possible, but it is a little hard to do if you are building for a specific goal in mind. Usually the direct to power benefits of an IO is enough to deal with their lower levels.

Market price. Sets that are "rare" but have little to no demand sell for very cheap in the markets, even if it takes 240 merits to purchase them from a vendor.

There are couples of ways to do this. What I started with was what I call aimless IO enhancing (must have a different IO set in each power, because I am weird like that), and when you do this you get a mixed increase accuracy, damage, regen, recovery, recharge, and some defense. This is still better than SO builds, since you get more things enhanced overall in each power by having sets there alone, let alone from the global benefits. Some IO sets kind of leave "holes" like only boosting accuracy once, so it is best interests to not always go full IO sets in every power

Then there are focused builds. Now, in general the two things people build for are defense and recharge. Defense has the subcategories of Smash/Lethal and then positional defenses. Smash/Lethal defense building is the easiest and the cheapest of the bunch, and provides decent bang for the buck, since a lot of enemy attacks have at least one of those components attached to them. Positional defenses are harder and more expensive, since you generally have to get full sets of six, as well as purples. Recharge is also quite expensive to build for, because the best recharge bonuses come from LotG +Recharge and purple sets.

Another thing that some build for is Max Health, but other than that there isn't much to aim for other than that. The other bonuses usually show up along the way when you are slotting for the others.

Now, a lot of people like to go with focused builds, but it really isn't that necessary for a lot of ATs. For example, I could probably soft-cap the Smashing/Lethal defenses on my defender, but there is little point to do so since she just hangs back and buffs/debuffs most of the time.

There are some guides to help out there, but generally it is hard to do since IOs are power based and not AT based. Even then, there are other things to consider, such as what powers you took. I.E. there's no reason to build for defense on a SR scrapper, since you'll just soft-cap without them anyway.

Got to be honest here, I'm not sure what you're asking. Working out the build is the hardest part of getting a good build. If you are talking about getting the money, then that can be easy or hard depending on how lucky you are. If you are talking about actually making the enhancements and slotting them, that is fairly easy to do. Almost all recipes are for sale at the market, and their enhancements themselves are also sold at the market. So it is either buy and slot, or buy, craft, then slot.

If money is tight, it isn't necessary to build for something specifically. I ran with random IO sets for a year, and I still outperformed SO builds quite well. You only need to go for specific builds for one of two reasons:

#1: You are trying to harden a weak spot in your build.

#2: You are trying to achieve a certain goal. Solo an AV, run on +4/X8, Perma-Dom, stuff like that.
  18. If by PuGs you mean any group of any people at all, then yeah but it is hard to do, since there is a varying level of competence that you'll get. I have seen it done many times.

If you mean PuGs with stipulations, then also yes. Generally you'll need a team of mostly 52+ to complete it with a high frequency of success. Any ATs, any builds, ect. Most of the damage from this trial comes from the level differences, so if you can cut those down you'll do fine.
  19. Currently the only thing that is in every set of mine is the Numina Regen/Recharge IO. Though I still have some endurance problems, and apparently I lacked the wit to realize I could slot both Numina and Miracle into Health at the same time, instead of one or the other. Well, that's asperger's for you. Excuse me while I get ready to respec all my builds for this change when I22 drops.

But before I leave, there are a couple of other things that I don't always put, but frequent my sets.

#1: Luck of the Gambler Def/Global Recharge: I didn't start doing this until I came into sudden wealth one day, but now I have at least one on all of my toons. The global recharge helps a bit.

#2: Kismet +6% accuracy. This is great on toons that end up trying to do a whole lot all at once (coughtrollerscough), since it lets me neglect accuracy a bit and let me get around to buffing secondary and tertiary effects.

#3: Karma/Steadfast Knockback Protection. On toons that don't have knockback protection, putting this into hover or combat jumping or some other power can save them a lot of trouble when dealing with something like the counsel.

#4: A stealth proc. Though, strangely, most of my builds have at least one stealth power in there, for the ones that don't I put this in. It makes for a great form of soft defense, since you don't take damage from an enemy that doesn't see you.
  20. Native Vegas dweller here. In all of my nerd circles and cliques in college, I have found no one who plays City of Heroes. Literally, no one.

It's a lonely city for the CoX fans.
  21. Wait... they're asking for full IO sets now? That is unfortunate.

I, personally, have hosted many MoM trials. My first few hosts, I failed most of them (back when the trial was actually *new*). But then, I added one stipulation to my teams:

"Forming MoM Trial! PST for an invite if level 52+. Meeting in RWZ1"

And all of the MoMs I have hosted with that stipulation have succeeded... I think. At least I don't remember any of them failing, as often as I have run them. No required ATs, no required sets, no required destinies or lores, nothing. If you have the levels, come aboard the soul train, because we're doing MoM tonight!

I have also been on many successful MoMoM runs that only had the stipulation of being +3. Even one of my +2 runs got the three MoM badges. The secret to this is that the enemies don't do all that much base damage, even with psionic damage not being frequently resisted. The real killer is the level shifts, and in general you shouldn't be fighting something higher than maximum difficulty in the first place. With a few level shifts the damage becomes manageable enough that you don't instantly die in the second phase, and you can probably do enough damage to get past the final two phases.

The secret to MoMoM badges isn't more level shifts, either. The biggest killer to the MoMoM badges is the second phase (... again), where some n00bs decide to kill every void the second it wanders near Penny, despite when everyone says not to. Keeping Aurora healed and Severing the connections is quite easy to do the first time around, so long as your volunteered healer can grasp the concept of "stand in the glowing portal for a few seconds while facing Shalice and you'll see when the room changes".

For the DD trial coming out... yeah I'm probably going to go with 53s. You really shouldn't fight something higher than +4 to you.
  22. I would definitely change the nuke powers on most blaster so that instead of a -1000% recovery they would get a -100% recovery, and -50% endurance instead of -100%. Then blasters can keep their toggles up and actually do some minor stuff instead of being completely useless for 20 seconds.

    Might add more later.

EDIT: Despite liking Ice Slick, I'm not a fan of removing Frostbites -KB power, since that is quite useful in its own right. From letting Tornado rack up damage, to when you have a PB on the team who wants to let loose with their AoE powers, removing the -KB to accommodate for ice slick removes some potential advantages, and there's a good chance that another toon on the team has an AoE -KB power on them.

I would be down with removing the crashes from the Shade/PB Nukes, scaling down the damage a bit, and making them Nova form powers. That would make the most sense to me.
I said for PBs. This wasn't for warshades. Also, I said to remove the +dmg from Nova Form and just make the attacks more powerful, so this would benefit warshade nova since their damage cap is coming off of a higher base power.

Anyway, on Dwarfs: I know that Perma-lightform is the big build that provides minor mezz protection, recovery bonus, and capped resistances. But, not everyone is IOing out their Khelds for high recharge. Or even IOing them out at all. To this, light form leaves a fairly large hole in a player's resistances, and also against enemies that can give a more potent mezz than mag 3. Of course, if you six slot the power to also provide resistances you're helpless without light form, so without going perma there is little reason to do so. Instead, you have to keep the resistance toggles and slot those to be effective, then keep them running while lightform is active to get capped resistances. Then the crash comes, and it has gotten me killed on more than one occasion.

Even with upgraded resistances, White Dwarf will be weaker than Perma-lightform. The suggestion was made with the idea that Dwarf Form would exist as the go-to defensive set for those who SO build or need greater mezz protection.
  24. Sure. A lot of them have placate or smoke bomb, so when I start the fight I just do that and she loses interest.
  25. Agreed with above. Also, some guy tights that aren't full body covers. I'd like some suggestive holes in awkward places.
