Thanks for the clarification! So all door missions are instanced while all hunt missions are not.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly.
[ QUOTE ]
I think it is essential to be able to grab sections of outdoor maps for instanced missions, and I think we also need to be able to stick usable doors on buildings in those outdoor maps so players can enter buildings to explore indoor maps.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not happening on inital release. Maybe not EVER. That's pretty complicated for what the devs are planning on doing.
[ QUOTE ]
Basically, I think a functionality like what we see in safeguard / mayhem maps is a basic requirement for the mission design tool. If we're restricted to just indoor maps spawned at randomly selected doors ... that would be quite the bummer.
[/ QUOTE ]
Think of it more as "a good start". Look, they're giving us something like 1,000 maps to start with. Hopefully it'll be improved if we play with it and USE it (unlike the Arenas that haven't had very much attention because they GET no attention.) -
[ QUOTE ]
Perhaps I used the wrong term? I meant that we would not be able to - say - grab a neighborhood from Galaxy City and use that as part of our mission map.
If "instanced" is not the correct term for this, what is?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think the outdoor maps are cityzone ones, as much as they look like them. I'm pretty sure they're ones that have been copied and touched up so they're playable.
(There are a few that are close enough to where the Went Worths should be that still have the building that was demolished for them.)
I think it's a "this is how it was origionally setup" thing that they haven't changed (yet). I'd LOVE to grab a chunk of a chosen map, drop a force field around it and have a mission there, but I don't think they can do that right now even for themselves.
Outdoor map is all it's called. Instanced just means it's your teams personal mission - no one else can interfere or enter it. It lives on the "Mission Server" and is an individual instance JUST for your team. -

I want the CoP up... Mainly because I want to join a SG/VG of raiders, and don't you need to finish the CoP to get an IoP to get to raid? Yeah... Chalk me up as one wanting the Trial back. >.>
With love,
Me! <3
[/ QUOTE ]
You can raid without it, but I haven't seen a raid since bases started.
There were a LOT of things wrong with the whole CoP/IoP/Raid/base system. They've got to be fixed in steps.
I wouldn't mind it back (it sounds like a budget Hami raid/Sewer Trial to me though), but I'd like the ability to "merge" SGs first. There are a LOT of SGs out there that don't have the people to do CoP as it was originally designed now, but have very complete bases. (I'm leader in two of them...) I think we definitely need something in that regards. -

QED.
Dasher
[/ QUOTE ]
QED? Not really, nor fair to the devs.
#3 equates to "What the devs think needs to be done, has the money and time to do" Fair enough - if it falls outside of those three it either CAN'T or SHOULDN'T happen. That's just having to work with the reality of a business, the reality of... well, Reality.
#2 There is very little they've promised they haven't delivered on. Yes, there are a few things but not many. Some of them (once they started them) turned out to violate #3 - Too much time/money, unbalancing, unfun, etc.
#1 The CoP isn't what ALL the playerbase cares about. Really - being such a big game there's a lot to do. They will fix it - eventually. But they don't work on your schedule. They're trying to make the ENTIRE game better for EVERYONE. CoP didn't work right. Until they fix IoPs they can't fix CoP. Before they fix IoPs they have to fix base raids. Before they first base raids they have to get better balance in the base defense stuff, and before THAT they have to get some other base stuff fixed. It's not a five minute "Just fix the reward and win condition" fix.
Bottom line - you don't get what the devs FEEL like giving you, you get what they CAN give you.
NOTES:
Faultline Trial - you mean the original respec that let you re-choose your powersets? The one that got tossed in beta four and a half years ago?
Cathedral of Pain Trial - the one that really wasn't that fun but had great exploits in it?
Huge Female Body Types - This would require the exclusive time of the modelers for MONTHS. NOTHING else would get added in or fixed while they were doing that. And I'm not talking about player costumes, I mean ANY new NPCs as well. Changes to any existing powers? Nope! Gotta make a new body type FROM SCRATCH!
KTF = Katie (Hannon) Task Force
When people are mad, they always refer to the playerbase as PAYING customers. If you're a customer, you're paying...

About the "Day jobs" feature...will it be retroactive?
Say we have a character we haven't logged into in a couple of months...will the offline time be counted as "Day Job" time for wherever they were logged off at when I13 comes live?
[/ QUOTE ]
They stopped datamining for badges after the first few came out. But, hey - if they want to, I've characters over four years old. and one that's been logged out over two years. Should be interesting... -

I can't wait to see what bugs we get this time. Hopefully not the inaccurate Buff Icons again.

You mean like the ones under the Health bar and on the team list that STILL say I'm flying at 95 mph? -
[ QUOTE ]
Not to mention that someone could make badge-farming missions.
how about a mission where there are a dozen Carnie Master Illusionists, locked up so they can't attack themselves, but can do nothing but summon pets?
[/ QUOTE ]
I was about to say that with the restrictions they've told us about in place that it couldn't happen, then I thought of a way to do that... Except I don't think the mobs count as high for badges (probably 1/10th or something) so I'm not sure it would be worth it.
Yea, the devs really are going to have to be careful. -

"Maybe I'm totally coming out of nowhere here, but it seems to me that the Devs are gearing up to completely eliminate the "barrier" between CoH and CoV. In other words, you could say "Hi!" to a Mastermind trotting through Atlas park on his way to the new Black Market station.....
{Don't get me wrong, this would take a lot of effort.}"
[/ QUOTE ]Im not 100% certain it would, as it seems(to me), all that would be needed would be to remove the flag that makes the exits from Pocket D "Heroside" or "Villainside"(also removing the relatedguard dialog of course), since both sides already have the ability to zone into an area(unless the PC/RI areas are also flagged as heroes/villains only, meaning another flag removal). The major problem I see would be the lag created by a bunch of yahoos from both sides invading the others sides area. My guess is that Pocket D wouldn't be able to be used for this(Zero intolerance), but if implemented, look for a massive upswing in pvp zone population. There's also a question of whether or not to have missions in the other side's area, and with the now "non-functional during Rikti raids" NPCs "go active" when villains are present blueside, and vice versa. Personally, that's what I would've liked the pvp to be, and packaged as a completely different game(a pve and pvp version of CoX), so you'd be able to play with people of similar interests. Wouldve been more work, but it would've bee nice.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's just the BEGINNING of the project. Some of the original "Let's make CoV" stuff probably re-used some variable from Coh they shouldn't have because they meant to set it up to cross-over. Stuff like badges, mission arcs, clues, etc. might have a "If you're a villain, show this - if you're a hero, show this" are easy things to do if you're in a rush.
Gonna need lots of checking and testing. This is a lot more complex then just adding an archetype. But it means a crapload more badges I can get. (what's the maximum number of badges I can get? Would that blow something up somewhere? Another thing to check!) -
[ QUOTE ]
Does anyone know if the Architect will be able to be used offline to create missions and then be able to upload them to the game when you connect? I hope that they do it this way, since that makes the most sense to handle the mission builder.
Ashes to ashes,
Pheonyx
[/ QUOTE ]
Possible but I doubt it - The current game client (the part that lives on your machine) isn't geared to do that in any way, plus if they make any changes ("As of today, you can no longer place the evil blue 'cake' room!") they'd have to re-check the entire level when you went to upload it.
(Although I do hope that add that feature in for the costume maker. I'd LOVE to be able to "save" costumes and upload them to multiple characters...) -

Any truth to this rumor from the base construction forum?
[/ QUOTE ]
Decent poster, I doubt she's made it up. Could be someone ELSE made it up, though, but I'm inclined to believe it.
The original invention system was created a LONG time ago, tested in-house and COMPLETELY thrown out. There is precedent.
And I'd rather they threw it all out then gave us a crappy experience system. -
[ QUOTE ]
In the 4-year history of the game there was ONE prestige grant which was intended to celebrate a UNIQUE circumstance (the CoX IP being sold to NCSoft, and the re-investment in the game from the new owners).
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe there were actually two. One recently based on the number of members in your SG and the other was something like 10k I think. Something to do with "Yea, the prices are WAY out of whack and we're fixing that." -

...however in the series Dr. McCoy aka Bones actully shaved a Tribble only to find nothing. The tibble's body is in fact made up entirely of hair and nothing else.

I worry about the devs giving you guys what you want.. You wanted flashback so damn bad.. and look no one EVER is even in there..
[/ QUOTE ]
There are ALWAYS people in Oro when I go there. People don't generally hang out there, though. They're usually, yanno, doing their flashbacks. Which don't take place in Oro.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not to mention using Oro as a "supershuttle" to move between zones from anywhere.
[/ QUOTE ]
Before it was Oro it was bases (with the vet power it's even better...) and before THAT it was PocketD and before THAT it was the PDP (er, Paragon Dance Party).
It's always shortest distance.
But Oro *is* getting used for it's intended purpose. So are bases (well, not raids but that actually makes me happy) and so is PocketD. -

*skins the tribble and warms up the hibachi* More is definately better when it comes to tribbles. Just make sure your space station has plenty of teriyaki sauce on hand!

If they ever do the "Secret Identity" thing with CoH...
[/ QUOTE ] I seem to recall that in Beta one of the developers was asked if there there would be secret identities.
"Yes" he said. Then looked around and in a loud faux whisper "It's YOU!" -
[ QUOTE ]
So uh...what happens when I log out from the secret lounge in Faultline? Is my day job an NCSoft programmer?

More like part of the QA department where you are under appreciated, unloved, you work too many hours, you don't earn merits, you only get pizza once a week, but you DO have the ability to survive the new Controller primary "Producer" power called "Crunch" (it's a long term AoE power that slowly makes you Disoriented until it finally induces Sleep...) -

I bet the power included with the Cyborg bonus pack is the transform to Freak Boss permanent temp power. Not complaining, just it would make perfect sense.

I'll take that bet. How much ya giving me...er, I mean, wagering?
It's a brand new power.

No, he was joking. Should be out in a month they said. -

I don't think we need a Manimal remake.

Good god, someone else actually remembers that show? O.O
Hmm...happen to remember the old show about the computer-generated guy that could come out into the real world (As some kind of solid hologram or something), but only at night? ( Something to do with the amount of power needed to run and less people using electricity at night ) Can't recall the name of the show for the life of me.

I think you are thinking of Max Headrum, dont know if i spelled that right or not. He wuld some times say the same word three or fore times while his head twitched to the side. Think he did Pepsi comershal to.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, Weird Science up there had it right: Automan. Though, I do remember Max Headroom, too. It was Coke commercials that he did. And the show was spun off from the character in the commercials. ><
[/ QUOTE ]
The Max Headroom is a remake of an HBO video VJ show. The commercials and the video they did are spun off the remake.

I wander how I can enlist myself as an actor? Movie theater would probly just be that you work in the ticket office at the theater or some other job there. I've noticed there are actully signs in some areas for a live theater in Paragon City. If I could log off there that would put me into my real life day job. lol
Can't remember exactly where that live theater is but I belive it's in Atlas Park.
[/ QUOTE ]
There is an outdoor theater in Perez by the lake.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's also one in the Hollows. There's probably more somewhere. There needs to be on in Galaxy City (a non-hazard zone) for the RPers. -

I think that would be a big mistake (devs putting a quantifiable value on certain rewards vs others).

I would like to see bases get some of the same options as the Mission Creator. That way people could make their bases caves, office even outside if they wanted.

We don't know what the mission creator will ACTUALLY have in it yet. That one mocked up screen shot in the survey was just a possibility. -

I'm in Ohio AND moving that weekend... the PPD Hardsuit is the best costume (IMO) from the halloween sets....
Why do the gods toy with me so?
Hopefully either PlayNC or a third party site will come up with another chance to win the missed costume like Massively.com did with the Comic-con one (by the way... DID they ever announce the winners?)

We're supposed to complain about it over here. Oh, and there are three costumes they're doing this with thus far. -
