Quote:Taking in to account the Destiny, I'd agree. I've only Inc'ed three toons so far, and they've been Clarion on my D3, Ageless on my Stormie and Rebirth on my soft-capped dark tank. I wasn't certain on the perma-numbers for Barrier, so I didn't want to hazard a guess and end up wrong.I would personally, on a defensive FA Tanker, aim for a Barrier(40%) S/L/N/E softcap.
32.5% is, in my opinion, often a better choice than 'almost' 45%, though. As those bits gained inbetween could potentially be far more useful elsewhere.
If it were possible (bear in mind, I've not looked into it too much), 59% is the iTrial soft-cap, isn't it? So 46.5% S/L might be a good option to aim for too. (Or 41.5% S/L with Barrier). Someone'll have to check my numbers on that, though, as I'm not entirely sure on the various factors. (Plus, alcohol severely limits my math). -
You may be better off looking at S/L (and as a secondary /E/N) defense, instead of the positionals. 4x Kinetic Combat will grab 3.75% S/L, and it frees up 2 slots per ST attack. Obliterations are good for S/L, but 3 Eradications work well for E/N, allowing slotting of things like Taunt IO sets, to add more defense bonuses.
There's hardly anything that does Cold damage at the moment, and you'll be capped to Fire res. Spamming Healing Flames will give some toxic resistance, and should (with HP) cover most Psionic attacks, too.
A soft-capped S/L fire/fire tank rarely has problems, so any E/N will be a bonus.
I'd only go for all-out positionals, if that's what was inherent in the sets to begin with, personally. Fire has no inherent defense, so hitting the S/L soft-cap will usually require less slots, allowing you to spend the remainder on other bonuses to help you. -
My main's a Dark/Dark/Dark 'fender, over on the Onion. I can attest that she can solo AV's, and pylons. She lacked the damage the take out a GM last I tried, but that was before Incarnates. (Currently at 150-170 DPS, according to the pylons thread's calculations).
Using just the Alpha slot, she soloed the ITF, too. Had to use temps for the Nictus AV, but other than that, it was on target for a Mo. Once she's got tier 4 Inc' powers sorted, I'll give it another whirl.
Used to solo farm Freaks at +4/x8 (with a HVAS for extra damage), too. Which got me the Leader badge.
My Rad/Rad's fine on a team, but can't handle nearly as much as my D3. -
Quote:I'm like Dechs, any toon'll do. Even the older content, I wouldn't specifically ask for anyone to bring anything, and I wouldn't turn someone away because it would be better to have something else. CoX has never needed a specific make up of teams and incarnacy, for me, will make more people be less picky about teams. Which is a good thing. How many recruiting BAFs or Lambdas take the time to inquire about people's ATs and abilities? How often do you see the new content teams looking for particular ATs? Almost never. Why? Because it's just not necessary. Get a team full of incarnates and it doesn't matter what ATs join or what skill each player has.
As for the whole being 'special' thing? I know I put effort into my toons and playstyle, I know I'm doing the best I can. I don't need people to tell me if I'm good, because whether I am or not is irrelevant. I'm being the best I can be, and that's enough for me. (I do tell others if they're doing well, however, I don't expect everyone to feel like me). -

On the whole, I'd say my 'preferred' alignment would be Vigilante, even though currently, none of my toons actually are Vigilantes. Some are staying Hero, as they're semi-retired and just brought out for tip missions and Hero Merits. Some have swapped to Villain, as I wanted a patron pool, some of which are on the road to redemption, some are currently getting Villain Merits for a while. Most of my original Villains have gone Rogue, as they're still levelling and I've more friends on Heroes to TF with, and they're getting patrons, just aren't high enough yet.
For just the Archetypes, I generally prefer Hero ones. Defenders are my favorite, and ones where I have an 'evil' version on villains (from Pre-GR), the Heroes generally suit me more. (Better buff/debuff/survivability etc, as opposed to more damage). I prefer my Mind/Psy Dominator to my Mind/Kin Controller, however. I also prefer the Kin/Psy Defender to that Controller, too.
Plot-wise:
For Heroes, I save the day, and there'll always be some nefarious foe planning a scheme tomorrow, that I'll have to prevent. It 'feels' like I'm making a difference, I'm maintaining the norm.
For Villains, I get more and more powerful, and yet, the place stays the same. The recent arc with my cloning facility? I adored that, it felt like I was actually achieving something, and I wish there were more arcs like it. For the most part, however, I've always felt more like a Vigilante, than an actual Villain. I'd want to conquer the world, not just ruin someone's day. -
I know there's an NA account with the global name @Biscuits, I'm pretty sure it's my trial account that was created for the closed beta of Issue 10, which was only on US test at the time. Will it be possible to get a member of support to check and confirm, and then change the global on that inactive account?
Only other way I can see of doing it, is buying the full NA version, to change it, then letting it go unsubbed. I don't want to lose my Global, it's the name I use for lots of things, but I'd rather not have to pay extra, all because I was invited to help test an Issue years ago. -
I'm biased with Dark powers in general, with 8 toons based around it so far, so i'll be voting for /Dark.
I'd also suggest if you were to ever make a /Kin, Dark Blast is a nice choice to pair with it, for mitigation reasons. -
Quote:In real life, you can be brought back to life after a few minutes of being dead, with CPR or defibrillators and the like. If someone to take the Medicine pool, with the tech based Rez in that, would that count in that situation? No, in this case, he is talking about hard-core, real-life heroing, rather than comic-book heroing. IRL, when you die, the game is over and it's time for whatever your religion specifies after death. No do-overs, no "Miracle Max's Miracle Pill - Cure's 'Mostly Dead' in one treatment!" And definitely no Marvel/DC infinite resurrection & retcon.
I fully support his 'hard-core' plan, however. I've a solo 'troller at 35 that's only died because I tried teaming with her once. Still, no debt badge yet, and I plan on hitting 50 the same way. -
I'm pretty sure there's lots of folk who want Dark/Dark blasters, I've been harping on about it for ages. I read a while back how they'd have to look into doing sets for 'trollers and domi's at the same time as blasters, to keep everyone happy. Which would be a big undertaking, so I'm not expecting it for a while, but I'm assuming it's in the works somewhere.
EDIT:
After looking at the Soul Mastery options for blasters, I'll throw a quick pair of sets to get you started, using known powers. I'd guess the Dev's would want to throw some new things together.
Dark Blast:
1. Dark Blast
2. Gloom
3. Dark Obliteration
4. Torrent (Up the damage and keep the KB, not swapping to KD)
5. Aim
6. Moonbeam
7. Petrifying Gaze
8. Life Drain (Left weak, as it'll still heal)
9. Blackstar (More Damage, lots less -tohit)
Dark Manipulation
1. Tenebrous Tentacle (Single Target Immob)
2. Shadow Punch
3. Death Shroud
4. Smite
5. Build Up
6. Touch of Fear
7. Dark Consumption
8. Dark Pit OR Shadow Maul (Not sure which would be better here)
9. Midnight Grasp
Soul Drain would likely be too over powered, and Cloak of Fear would be too. The rest are based on similar kinds of powers from other blaster sets. -
I don't see how this is considered a bad thing. My main has TP as her travel power (Dark x3 'Fender), and has CJ for the extra defence and Immob' protection. Even then, I took TP pretty late, and CJ wasn't in the levelling build. Due to lag, I'm often using Ninja Run to get from mission to mission.

Quote:'Twas my Dark tank that sucked on that occassion, and I'd built her after reading about how you soft-capped for S/L/E/N.LR's a chump. Dark Armor Sucks.
Here's a decent build to get ideas from. It's the one I used in the video. I've made a few improvements since then, and inherent fitness also helps, but you'll get the idea.
I'll post her build, but it's Dark/Dark/Body. I've no experience with Stone Melee, however. With the Cardiac slot, Body may become Soul Mastery in the future, as at the moment the heal's a PBAoE taunt, and Dark Consumption is used as an attack. I also found OG to be more annoying than useful with nothing to stack with (boxing's only a chance), as they often staggered out of range of Death Shroud. With stone, you may find it better. I skipped Touch of Fear, as the aura's only for extra -tohit, and I don't even use it that often. Note, for my build, she might not be the most efficient, but it's the best to suit my playstyle, and I prefer to build for things aimed at having zero support, as I never know who I'll be teamed with.
As for LR, I had the inspirations to manage him solo whilst the towers went down (purple to 75%, oranges, with heals off the towers), but had crazy lag at the time. I have to say thanks to the Thermal 'troller who kept me standing as I was having to guess when powers would recharge.

EDIT: That's a slightly older build, actually. OG became Focused Accuracy, as the Cardiac Alpha meant it would cover it being run with 1 end-red. -
Damn it, Ocho, you promised* me an 8TF, or more likely an 8SF! Don't make me use the AE. I won't get your style or humor right. The new job isn't worth my tears is it? IS IT?
*(promised/said it was unlikely. same thing in my book.. i never did learn to read). -
For my namesake, my D3, I've opted for the Cardiac route. Specifically the Endurance/Range side.
It's meant that I've endurance enough to ditch Dark Consumption from the APP's, and pick up Hasten and Soul Drain after fitness went inherent.
My damage is a lot more than it used to be, with Assault and Soul Drain, I'm usually running about with 150% or so damage buff. With the faster recharge on top, I'm far more violent than I used to be.
Also most of my damaging attacks are at 95% or so from IO's, so the Musculature Boost won't really do much for me. But with most powers having 30-60% Endurance Reduction, the majority of the Cardiac Boost is working.
I, personally, would rather use the whole of a boost, instead of 1/3rd post-ED. I'll also be sticking with Cardiac for the Very Rares, as I'll be going the Fear route, so I can swap in Accurate To-Hit Debuffs in Fearsome Stare, and still have a decent duration. (Keeps my 6.25% Recharge bonus, but frees up another slot). -
My Dark Servant.
But honestly, it depends on what toon I'm on, and what we're doing. Something that can complement me and the others, usually. Cold or FF for defense buffs, Kins for damage/recharge, anything that makes things more fun.
I'm more than happy to play with 'bad' players, too. Quite often it'll make me work harder and make things a bit more challenging. -
If this is a new concept, I'm surprised that you've opted for the Fitness pool, since it'll be inherent in the next week or so. Also, you seem to have slotted for resistance, when it should be relatively easy to soft-cap your defense with those sets.
If you took out Fitness, I'd add Weave. I'd slot Weave, Maneuvers and Hover for Defense, too.
I'd take Power Build Up over Force of Nature, too. 80% damage buff, instead of extra resistance with a crash. I *think* PBU hoofs up your defense, too, so you can use it to take alphas from time to time.
I'd recommend Hasten, too.
For Aim, as it's only two slots, I'd personally just use two recharge IO's, as I'd rather it were up more often for damage reasons, not for tohit reasons. Set-wise, I'd be surprised if you don't already have enough accuracy to make most things 95% of hitting before using Aim. -
-
Since we'll be able to re-choose which Alpha we want every five minutes, I won't be picking a definite route for any toon. I'll be concentrating on the Cardiac ones first, though. With Fitness becoming inherent, and three more powers potentially needing slots, I'm going to be running Stamina with just it's basic slot for a while. The Cardiac ones should cover me for endurance issues.
After that, I plan on testing the waters with the other three commons, and if my endurance holds up okay, maybe I'll make those my main choices.
Expect for my Stormie. Who'll probably keep the old fitness for now, and just stick with the Cardiac. She's soft-capped for ranged/AoE, throws out plenty of damage, and has pretty decent recharge to begin with. Only problem is that she chews through endurance like it's going out of fashion. Like neon Lycra cycle shorts in the 80's. -
With dual builds available, I'm able to have a team build, and solo based builds for some of my defenders which allow me skip buffs and take more powers that are beneficial to me. As such, I'm not sure I'm agree with this whole parity thing.
For Sonic Resonance, I would suggest one slight change, though. I'd add some sleep resistance (not protection) to Sonic Dispersion. Clarity already has it, and it fits thematically with Sonic Blast's sleep power Siren's Song. That way, if you do happen to get put to sleep, it doesn't last as long.
Forcefield's toggle is 2/3rd's the Defense of the shields (10% vs.15%), whilst Sonic's is 3/4ths (15% vs. 20%), so I wouldn't fiddle with that. Sure, defense is worth more than resistance in mitigation terms, but there's more pool powers that give defense, so I think it evens out.
I've thought about Sonic Repulsion including a chance of -res effect, but I've no experience of the power, personally or from a team, so I've do definite suggestion there.
Depending on how I like the new animations for Sonic Blast, I may have another attempt at a Sonic/Sonic. -
Not a mistake, as I'm not sure how keen on HO's you are, but I'd suggest swapping the three Endurance Reductions in:
Level 1: Radiation Infection -- EndRdx-I(A), EndRdx-I(3), EndRdx-I(3), Achilles-ResDeb%(46)
For three Enzyme Exposure Hami-O's. It'll have a similar endurance use, but also debuff tohit and defense to silly amounts. -
Whiz. Bang. Hello Past!
Do we get badges for Ouroborosing threads? -
I've got an Elec/Rad on the go at the moment, and even though she's still low level, she's already fun to play. Sure she's slow solo, but still fun.
I considered /Storm, too. However, Storm's got lots of KB, which will mess with the location sleep power, and the +regen/+recovery aura. Hurricane would make the aura pretty much useless, too.
I'd suggest possibly looking at /Sonic, though. The -res might help with the lack of damage, and the Sonic Dispersion will mean Conductive Aura drops only when Sleeps are in play. I'd also guess that Gremlins with the Sonic shields would look rather fancy, too. ^_^ -
Here's my attempt, too, Tame. I'm more of a fan of Defence than anything.

Quote:1. I'ts not an Egg, it's a Gherkin. That would ber Canary Wharf. Site of the largest battle between Cybermen and Daleks.

(When I lived in London, I never met anyone who didn't think the building was stupid).
2. It's not Canary Wharf Tower, as that's a pyramid on a block.

Canary Wharf Tower was the Torchwood base in Doctor Who, yes. The Gherkin can been seen in Basic Instinct 2, and is probably the best actor in it.
