Quote:That would seem fine to me if it weren't for the fact my Crab, Defender, and Bane have all seen uncommons most of the time, with the occasional rare and common. To be honest I think I've seen rares drop more often than commons on them, though that may be perception bias. The Crab's the one I've run the most (enough to get a tier 4 interface and tier 3 in the rest) and I think he's seen maybe 3 commons as end-of-trial rewards.I have had a single Rare reward table, and the rest Commons. Seems fine to me - common table is indeed common
I've not done enough runs of my MM to get much of a sample size (I just started running them on my MM today, out of curiosity after this thread), but so far commons seem to be a lot more common than on my other chars. -
Don't the Praetoria events ignore pets when calculating contribution? Or was that fixed?
If not, I'd not be surprised if that's transferred to trial rewards, as stupid as it'd be. -
No special cap on this - with 126.25% global recharge, mine are showing 7m53s recharge.
Not sure why yours wouldn't have changed, at least by a few seconds. Maybe you need to zone or something for it to update with the new IO? -
Apparently something similar happened on Victory a couple of days ago (assuming it wasn't coincidence).
-
It's popular with Crab/Bane/Hunstman because Venom Grenade gives more -res to toxic than other damage types, so that meshes well with Bile Spray.
It's also fairly popular with other ATs for Water Spout.
Possibly for Hibernate too.
And the novelty value of shooting sharks at people (and throwing up on them). -
As far as I can tell the vast majority of the teams form on broadcast in Pocket D (sometimes in RWZ or Midnighters - varies a bit by server, but the last few days on Freedom Pocket D has been busiest). I haven't seen that many being organised on globals, though I've not had much luck finding active globals on Freedom (I'm told the "good" ones are all invite-only).
-
Quote:My experience is leagues formed through the automated LFG system have a massively lower chance of success vs teams preformed via channels (though not so much global channels - most of them form in Pocket D broadcast on Freedom). The LFG system makes it very easy to PuG these trials. None of that "global channel" nonsense. Just flag that you're looking for a run, and you'll be popped in automagically.
This is mostly because the automated system tends to only half-fill the league, and until everyone's a bit more kitted out with incarnate powers a half-full league is a lot less likely to succeed than a full league (especially if it's a PuG). -
For what it's worth I only PuG and now have a character with t3s in every slot, t4 in alpha (got the alpha before i20), and well on my way to two more t4s. Most of my failed runs took place on the first day i20 was live (they're usually successful now). I'm in the UK, so weekday playtime for me is 1pm->7pm EST. The character in question is on Freedom (though I've been able to get some trial progress for my main on Victory too, but I'm not sure how long that'll last).
I wouldn't fancy trying to progress very far into the incarnate stuff through soloing though.
(note to clarify: I join PuGs advertising on globals and pocket D broadcast, I haven't used the automated lfg much since the first day as it tends to only half-fill the raid, which greatly reduces the chance of success) -
Also the 9CUs stats ramp up the longer they're alive. And Battle Orbs give tohit buffs to their allies (and can appear in large numbers).
-
I got that on my Crab the other day, and it made me wish my WM/EA brute (named "Pretty Strong") wasn't sitting at level 20 on a low pop server
-
I always stress the need to kill the 9CUs as soon as possible, since in addition to accumulating in numbers they get more powerful the longer they're around. My most recent runs have all gone smoothly, but my first batch were all failed because of 9CUs getting out of hand.

I never understood why, when choosing a letter to throw out from colour, you opted for the "u". The second syllable always sounded more like "lur" than "lor" to me.

Quote:Pretty much. In Scotland a plaid is a sort of cloth or shawl (which is usually tartan, but doesn't have to be) worn around the shoulders (or I think waist). It's not a term that really comes up in every day conversation as it's more a historic/traditional item of clothing (at least in my neck of the woods), so I'm hazy on the details. I guess some in the UK might occasionally use it as a synonym for tartan, but that'd be pretty rare.Wouldn't that be tartan, not plaid, if your talking about Scotland? (half-remembered remark rattling in my brain.
So yeah, it'd be tartan if it were in Scotland.
Guess this could be added to that words that mean other things thread if I weren't so lazy. -
I did kinda wonder why as a player I was meant to want this new launcher. 1 minute to download. I am now convinced

Quote:I'd say limit the extent to which you give orders/instructions, and consider the way you present any instructions you're giving. It's also relatively rare that orders are actually necessary - most of the game is pretty easy and many players have been here quite a long time so already know what to do.This is something a want to tackle on. How can you be a firm, decisive team leader without being bossy?
The main areas I'd expect a team leader to issue an actual order are:- Which mission we're doing next. Not exactly an order I suppose, but you need to have a clear idea of what the team's doing, and have the next mission selected promptly. In other words, don't sit in silence for 5 minutes then say "so... what do you all want to do?".
- If you want the mission completed in a certain way. By this I mean the overall approach, e.g. deciding whether the team will fight a path to the objective vs have someone stealth and teleport the team.
- Instructions on how to deal with special encounters or problem enemies. E.g. "mez Sorcerers first" (with optional explanation that they're healing the enemy and their hurricane shuts down our melee). Or for a slightly more complex example, the Hamidon encounter in the Lady Grey Task Force where it's helpful if the team is on the same page about what order to kill the Mitos.
- The appraoch the team will take for a given spawn. E.g. a room with many nearby spawns, it's entirely reasonable to tell the team you're pulling one spawn to the corridor and that they shouldn't engage until the spawn gets here. You probably wouldn't need to give these kinds of instructions every single spawn.
- General stuff like "take a break for five minutes while everyone trains/sells" or "wait for everyone to get to the mission before we start".
And that's about it really. Avoid trying to micromanage your teammates and trust that they know what they're doing. Occasionally they don't, but the game's pretty easy and forgiving of sub-optimal playstyles - CoH really doesn't require the kind of disciplined and regimented approach some MMOs take for teaming (in fact this is a big part of the appeal for many players).
With regards to how you present orders, there are times you need to make it clear that it's not up for debate, and that's fair enough. But those times are relatively few - most of the time you can get better results by phrasing it as a suggestion (with an explanation of why you're making it) or a friendly reminder.
And if you do want/need to raise an issue with a specific team member - perhaps they're one of the ones that really doesn't know how to play their character and it's causing problems for the team - a private tell may be better than raising it in group chat (again keeping it friendly and informal). Unless they're being abusive and such, at that point by all means don't sugar coat it. - Which mission we're doing next. Not exactly an order I suppose, but you need to have a clear idea of what the team's doing, and have the next mission selected promptly. In other words, don't sit in silence for 5 minutes then say "so... what do you all want to do?".

I took Cardiac on my Crab and I'll be keeping it. While I could probably have gone without it previously (with the use of blue inspirations), once we got inherent fitness I picked up an extra toggle or two and that was enough to tip the scales such that he now burns through endurance faster than I can regain it through any means besides teammate buffs. Picked up Cardiac and all of that went away, he can run full tilt and almost ignore his endurance bar.
So while he will be missing out on some extra damage on future incarnate powers, I don't regret my choice or plan to change it - I'm very happy with his current performance (including damage output) so it's a worthwhile trade for me.
My Widow on the other hand (and probably my Bane, unsure about Fort) is going Musculature as even after the extra powers inherent fitness freed up she's no worse than my Crab was pre-inherent. She can run low if in prolonged intense fighting, but not often enough that blue insps won't tide her over. So sure, more damage please! -
Quote:Display bug only, the correct (undisplayed) values are the ones actually being used. However, when I hover over the power in the enhancement window, the Damage and resist portions are both at 70%. There is no way those numbers are adding up correctly. I thought maybe it was due to slotting the hamis...but the prince is slotted basically the same..and all values are correct. So I dont know if the values are just displaying wrong, or I am losing 30% damage on my tier 2 pets..which is a big deal to me. Has anyone else seen a similar issue?

I get bored fast soloing, so my soloing tends to occur under one of two conditions: 1) it's a high performance IO'd out character and that I get a kick out of feeling powerful with (every now and then, and in short bursts of 2-4 missions); or 2) to get something out of the way (e.g. an old mission/arc, or anything that's an unlock - badge missions, temp powers, tips for alignment, Cimerora arc, etc).
For 1) I far prefer a target rich environment and I'll go to at least x6 before even looking at the level difference. I generally don't like to go above +2, even if the character can handle it, because it slows things down a bit and the big orange numbers are less big and so forth. I do have some characters that are better suited to low numbers of higher level enemies, but I tend not to find them as amusing so don't really solo them for fun.
For 2) I'll run on basic +0/x1, probably with bosses turned off. I don't drop to -1 on principle, unless it's a really weak soloer, but since I'm generally just trying to get things out the way quickly I don't bother with higher difficulties.
In all other scenarios - teams or soloing for xp - I'll aim for something that offers enough challenge that I and any teammates are kept on our toes and having to use the bulk our powers, but low enough that we're getting through spawns at a decent rate. That sweet spot varies from character to character and team to team.
As for "slider", eh, in many games (including at least one pre-CoH MMO) difficulty is a slider, enough of them that it has become a common term even if the UI doesn't involve an actual slider. Just the way language works I'm afraid. -
Quote:I'm not certain, but would someone with a particularly thick Liverpudlian accent not sound like they're saying "buy-gull"?

Yeah, the British would be the ones confused when you use that term when indicating there's an exfoliating sponge in the shower if they need it. To the British, Poof is slang for a homosexual man.

Quote:I'm not sure I've encountered bugger as an adjective. It's usually either a verb (bugger off, bugger it, now we're buggered) or a noun (those little buggers, bugger all, crafty old bugger). The same being true of it's non-slang meanings, though I'm less inclined to post examples of that...Isn't bugger (as an adj.) a bit different than as a verb (ie. akin to 'rogering'); now LOLing 'Buck Rogers', 'Roger Rabbit' and 'Roger Moore'
Is 'rogering' right proper UK slang or is that a product of the Bond movies?
As for "rogering", I'm not sure how widely it's used (probably depends on area), but yeah it's proper UK slang. I vaguely recall some comedian years ago doing a bit about visiting the US, encountering an advert for "Kenny Rogers Chicken", and taking it to be some sort of public announcement. -
Quote:That's a new one on me, everyone I know uses "can" and "tin" interchangeably in the context of a can of coke (or more likely, Irn Bru, as in "ah'll hae a can'ee Irn Bru").(less funny anecdote)
The same friend visited Scotland, and at a pub asked for a can of coke. He received a bug-eyed stare, "You want a CAN of coke? Afraid we've only 'tins' here"
Apparently, "cans" in Scotland, are what we call "kegs" in the US.
I first encountered the US meaning of knickers in high school English class when we had to study Death of a Salesman. Once we got to the description "Bernard enters in knickers", learning came to an abrupt halt and much adolescent hilarity was enjoyed by all. -
Quote:Pre-dates EQ I think, I remember "grtz" and similar being used on text MUDs.I'd imagine it's the same considering that came from Everquest and that game didn't have servers separated by regions (they weren't really planning on being as huge as they were/got).
Oh, and I had a friend that spent a couple years in the US when he was a teenager. Got into a bit of bother in his first week at a US school when he asked the teacher if he could borrow a rubber... -
The thing with bugger is that its actual meaning is basically a specific case of the f-word, yet in slang usage - even though it is often used in the same contexts - it's treated as far less offensive/profane.
I'm also always mildly amused at how many forums, that may otherwise be strictly moderated, let "bollocks" go unchallenged.
Quote:I think the US version probably gets used more here than the UK one these days - I hadn't actually heard the UK one at all until I read this post, and had to go google it to confirm the awaken definition. Maybe just not used in my corner of Scotland, but I don't recall ever hearing it on British tv shows either. The phrase "knock up" means something completely different in Britain and the USA.
In Britain, it can mean "wake someone up" (e.g., "I'm going to Fanny's house to knock her up tomorrow morning"), or to throw something together out of odds and ends (e.g., "My dad knocked up a treehouse out of some old lumber scraps").
In America, "knock up" means to get pregnant. So you Brits don't go knocking any of us up, ok?
I use grats, or sometimes "conga" (as in, conga rats). Everyone I've met from the UK have also just used the standard grats variants - it's more net slang (well, mmo slang) than anything else I think.
