My friend is looking to getting a strong laptop so that he can play CoH with at least performance --> recommended graphics level and not die of lag. Before he went out buying a brand new one i told him to check the specs of what he's got now and see if it'll work.

Quote:For some reason I want to say Drain Psyche, but i'm not 100% if that's it. I'm pretty sure Drain Psyche is the only self regen/recov buff available to blasters in the psi category.Crashless is possible just not with ageless alone. But it would depend on your builds total recovery rate before Ageless including any outside buffs you may have being combined with ageless. OP is a blaster but a defender or corruptor can self buff their recovery so that would help them with this... I guess a blaster could as well if they took that one psi power that I can't remember the name off at the moment.

Quote:Thanks for the INTENSE amount of detail in your critique, with your help I have a build that gives Light form about 5 minutes until it's back up and running, a semi-permanent hasten and a permanent essence boost with a 50% heal. Now I can safely bob between dwarf and human to keep myself alive, and also nova to deal TONS of damage. I really liked your idea of the increased perception added to nova form by the way, nice touch.Well, hope that all helps a little - much of what I said is up for debate, I'm sure, but it's helped me out, so YMMV.
Here's a Data Chunk if you'd like to critique even further.

Now, after reading through the "MFWarshade" guide that i've heard so much about I learned some interesting things on how to play Kheldians in an awesome aspect, but most of these tactics apply to the Warshade portion of the category.
What are some general strategies for building a monster of a Tri-Form Peacebringer?
So far, after toying around on Mid's, this is what I came up with. Any advice/guidance that can be offered would be GREATLY appreciated!

Quote:In this build i tried to keep purples almost out of the equation, and even the PVP IO's and oranges I tried my best to keep out, but some were needed to get my defense up as much as possible with this build, this is the closest i can get without skimping on things i prefer to have in a toon.
I figure about 8 billion for the purples (roughly 400 million per), maybe 2.5 to 3 billion for the Panacea set (heal and proc are the pricey ones), 2 to 2.5 billion for the Glad Armor proc (I bought mine with a-merits -- in fact I earned 3 in about 5 weeks using 3 characters, so I have two stored in my base ) ... 400 million per Enzyme, 2-300 million for the Membranes, I'm not sure what the price is on the Fury of the Gladiator proc, I have one in my base too (courtesy of Pumbumbler's big event at the end of last year) but I didn't use it in my build. And of course the LotGs and Miracle and Numina uniques cost money or a-merits too.
Obliterations are cheaper than they used to be though I think?
It's best to focus on one piece at a time. ^_^

So far, i've found this to be the most challenging build to toy with on Mid's. Here's what I have so far, where can I improve?? I'd perferrably not skip any of the EM powers, excluding confront and thunderclap
http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...95FF016B7420C1 -
any tips on soft capping defense? I'm not sure how to go about this because most of the powers in /shield cover a mixed group of stats. :P
-
back onto the shield defence topic, are there any powers that would be good to skip in that powerset? I was thinking the AoE team buff would be a bit of a troublesome weight in combat, also I considered skipping confront as well, along with lightning clap?
And any power pools that are considerable in taking? I was going for SJ, of course. but is fighting worth it? or is the Healing set better for self heal?
Any comments on this? -
Quote:Thats what i was thinking, cause in my head it sounded cool. but i didnt think it would play very wellThere's at least one build in the build's thread. I just have a low level one. My only comment is Kin's animations really don't go well with /sd. One paper it should be decent with the stacking of +dmg buffs and -dmg debuffs. PS and SC don't play as well since PS needs to be built up and SC is pure burst damage. I just think Kin works better elsewhere despite the on paper synergy.
-
I was just looking over the builds and has anyone gone with a Kinetic Mele/Shield Defence scrapper?
-
Quote:My friend had one of those at one point before he gave his account away, that toon was a MONSTER. I know the damage that they can causeMaaaaaan who needs all your fire//shield and elec stuff gggeeezzzzzzzzz You should make a spines//regen or fire//invsl or ...... Oorr..... Uhhhhh my fav Sword//regen Massive amount of dmg and great for not being bored because your all ways clicking between attacks and heals//buffs and more attacks and Uhhh yeahh =)) it's what ii got sword//regen Super fun

Quote:Yeah I've heard the whole "crash nuke with Ageless" deal. It sounds amusing, but I usually use my nuke sparingly, so i wouldn't find much use for it. And yea, as you said I did get PFF, that's why barrier wasn't my first choice. Basically, on all of my toons I aim for higher regen, so i figured Rebirth would be spectacularRebirth is a GREAT pick, especially if you work out a rhythm on when to use it with other people on your team who have Rebirth. You either get big shots of regeneration or big shots of extra health.
A Blaster friend of mine claims that she can use Ageless to stave off the crash from nuking, and I know my SS/Fire Brute loves it.
Barrier is good for an "Oh crap save the team!" power. If you got PFF from Force Mastery, then I guess you might not care about it, though.
Clarion...Well I can see the use for Blasters, but I'd rather carry the break free insps and boost things that you CAN'T boost with inspirations. I've seen a lot of blasters put this power to good use, but my persona preference is to leave this one alone. -
Quote:That does sound really appealing, but what i meant was it's like the same powers in a different place. Ya know? Like having two guys with fire mele attacks might get boring quick. Not sure how a blapper would play the same as a fire/shield? On a well built fire/Shield you basically are a team of 8. You barely get touched, but you hit so hard and frequently that nothing is alive long enough to take you down. Anything below an AV is laughable to my fire/shield.
-
Just as a side note, my friend decided to go with an "Earth/psy" dominator instead -_- so if i don't go with AoE he will have turned the tables of who gets the boring side of combat w/o even knowing that u guys suggested he would be the bored one...haha.
Quote:@ Mauk, This doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. I love the feel of EM, my friend has an EM/EA brute and i love chain induction, it's fun to watch...im anxious to see what its like to have lightning rod..To partner with a kat/regen, I would recommend an elec/elec.
He has strong single target, you have strong AOE.
For the record: Lightning Rod makes Shield Charge look like it's cute little baby sister.
Awwww, Shield Charge is so cuuuute!
Of course, the elec/sd has both....
I'd still recommend the elec/elec instead, because with reactive, any toon without a damage aura is pretty far behind the AOE damage curve.
Do you think it would be possible to bind BOTH TP powers to the L Click button on the mouse, and just click once and then click again just like having multiple toggles binded to one key..? or might it be easier to bind lightning rod to left, and shield charge to the right. lol
Quote:I have both an Elec/Shield and Fire/Shield scrappers, both IO'd out and to be honest I'd go with the Fire/Shield. The AoE is more than enough to take down mobs, and if you have a decent build with recharge you'll probably be close enough to Elec's AoE output.
It's the single target attacks that you will like more with Fire Melee. Get Reactive Interface and the Destiny heal power and you're laughing.
Now that I'm almost at T4 for all my incarnate powers, I'm even thinking of gutting my Elec/Shield and IOing another 50 to do more incarnate stuff.
Fire/Shield in my opinion is hands down better than Elec/Shield. -
Quote:Thanks, i didnt know it wasnt working >.Your data link doesn't work. This is from your summary.
Clarion looks like your best bet, followed by Rebirth. Barrier is only going to be really significant for very short bursts. Ageless is 22.5 % recharge and some recovery if you need that you can get it from base buffs. Clarion gives you a permanent breakfree, Rebirth gives you a big self heal.
http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...63CE3F23D0EA1F
Edit: After comparing the effects of clarion and Rebirth I think i'm going to go with Rebirth Radial..it gives a HUGE regen bonus, 70% heal. and it lasts 120s while also recharging in the same amount of time.. -
I posted this on the "blaster incarnates" thread with no results:
I have an energy/energy/force Blaster (My strategy is usually in your face, then knockback or ranged attacks after my meles have done the damage) . So far my slot choices are as follows:
Alpha slot: Spiritual Core
Interface: Dimagnetic Core
Judgment: Ion Radial
Lore: Clockwork Radial
Destiny: NEED HALP
I need some help on the destiny slot, here are my current stats with all of my toggles on..
Regen: 188%
Recovery: 178% (2.98end/sec)
End Usage: 0.51 end/sec (without superspeed, with SS --> 0.81 end/sec)
Recharge: +77.5%
Resistance: Smashing (53%); Lethal (48%)
Defences: All hover around 6% accept energy & negative (13%)
I know my endurance is good for my play style, but i do run out and hover between 25-60% at all times during combat. My resistance is good when fighting yellows-oranges, but purples swat me down like a fly. I also have force of nature as well.

So I've played my entire career on heroes as a blaster, I haven't had any other build pass level 20 without getting bored (other than the PB). The addition of Shield defense brought my attention to the scrapper, but I'm having trouble deciding what primary would pair well with this defense.
Also, this idea came up when me and my friend brainstormed the idea of two characters specifically build to duo/team with each other throughout the levels. His favorite build is the Classic "Katana/Regen" and he's a monster with it, after loosing his account a few years ago he wants to rebuild this monster.
Does anyone have a clue as to what primary would mesh well with a Katana/Regen set? I was considering Fire/ because of the AoE attacks and the DoT, but i was also leaning towards broad sword as well for the "sword and shield" theme. -
Personally, I went with DP/Fire. I skipped the cone, just because I blapp with him. Using bullet rain, then jumping in and nailing both AoE's with Fire ammo on easily becomes a game of one hit kill target practice as i sit back and laugh menacingly while they turn tail and run for their lives, and with one red insp its an instant kill if you just like to kill the mob and get it over with.
Also, after playing my energy/energy and switiching to this toon I started playing like a single target ranged blaster and it played equally as well. It's a very broad ranged build and is soo worth the time. In my opinion blazing aura is skippable, just because hotfeet offers the same ability + a slow with over twice the radius.
If you're looking for a build that supports close and long range combat. /fire is the way to go. It has the stacked AoE damage for close range, and the very accurate DP to deal with the baddies from affar and ring of fire to anchor the tough guys. It's very fun!!!
On the topic of /EM. I considered it and i believe it would be another awesome build simply because of the -regen and such, but I'm just not a fan of cone attacks, and that build offers a few while fire doesn't. -
I have an energy/energy/force blapper (i use the javelin strategy, jump in blap and jump out --> Rinse & Repeat) . So far my slot choices are as follows:
Alpha slot: Spiritual Core
Interface: Dimagnetic Core
Judgment: Ion Radial
Lore: Clockwork Radial
Destiny: NEED HALP
I need some help on the destiny slot, here are my current stats with all of my toggles on..

Quote:1.) I now realize that the second snipe doesnt help to much, so i've decided to go with force masteryNot to be blunt but I reccomend learning the ways of Mids. Best way to do that is just play with it. Build your character as he is now then save it. Play with the saved version. The View Totals button will show you the combined stats for your character.
Now a few notes if I may:
1) You like to blap but you have two snipes? If you're doing it for set bonuses then there are better ways to go. If it's to be effective there are better ways to go. If it's for theme then they're fine.
2) You have no Reduced Recharge on Build Up or Aim. This means you only have them every 90 seconds minus any Recharge set bonuses. These two powers make you MUCH more effective. They need to fire more often. I'd ditch what you have in them now and 3-slot them with Recharge.
3) If End is a problem go do the Oroborous arc to unlock your Alpha Slot and grab Cardiac. Not only will this drastically cut your End use on everything it also adds 20% to your range once you get the higher tiers of it.
4) If you go the Cardiac Alpha route you can drop Conserve Power for something more useful: Combat Jumping. Drop in a Stealth IO and you can get closer to the enemy without drawing fire.
5) Think about putting a Devastation: Chance for Hold into your two main blasts. This gives you a chance to stack Holds on Bosses and to hold Minions for later thumping.
6) Remember what I said about Aim and Build Up? Same thing goes for Hasten. 3-slot this with Recharge so you can use it more often.
7) Not sure I see the point in Fly AND Super Speed. Just saying...
8) Many of your slots in your melee attacks come late. You might want to think about trying for 1-2 earlier on in the build on the off chance you do a TF with someone. You don't want your blapping to be curtailed by losing slots or powers that you put in later. Whatever you like to use most should come as early in the respec as possible.
9) One of the things you'll be delighted to find on Mids is an Endurance Modifier set called Performance Shifter. If you slot the proc from this into a fourth Stamina slot it has a chance to give you End back at a fairly good pace.
10) You'll also find several procs from the Healing sets that give you added Regen, Recovery or both. Drop these into your Health slots and forget them. You'll be happier.
2.) on build up I have about a 26% recharge, with the t0-hit buff set. I like it because it gives the damage buff, I don't find endurance much of a problem so i went with spiritual to help cover the recharge broad scale, and also boost healing & stun.
3.) Again, spiritual.
4.) not a bad idea
5.) I've never thought of this, I might try it(:
6.) I noticed the difference between a 3 slotted hasten and a 2 slotted..it's only about a ten second difference. I'd rather have it slotted in a different place.
7.) I like the run speed for indoor missions, and I got fly + hover as an easy escape during mele situations, like in open sky maps (portal missions/lambda/baf & such)
8.) In the end, that's what I usually do. I keep everything evenly slotted in the game, but when i do mids i dont care much for the levels that i slotted it. lol
9.) I just slotted it(:
Here's the data link for the revised build, that i made just before you commented on this. lol it's a bit better in my opinion compared to my latter build..

Quote:I have a energy/energy and I found a very effective strategy to avoid crazy knockback. In most cases the knockback of a power is horizontal, so if you use hover in your shark circle tactic and use the cone attack from above, then the knockback is turned into knockdown. The same strategy is used when a /storm defender uses lightning storm. If you throw horizontal knockback (usually delt from the ground) down from the sky it'll become vertical knockback. I do the same strategy with my WS nova too. I'll intentionally aggro a whole mob on myself, go nova and fly up. When I use the detonation (which has knockback) it pushes them down, basically like tripping them.I need that cone unfortunately. I am already prone to Blaster lock (having played Brutes almost exclusively first 3 years). I find myself just hammering a boss or lt, and in the back of my mind I am screaming "get on your AoEs, help the team" Rad has one PBAoE (tough cause I did not build to blap, one reg AoE, and the cone. I need all 3 as I shark circle the mob and decide how I want to soften them up for the steamroller.

Quote:After playing yesterday I realized that LRM does look really cool, however when fighting purples I'd have so much more potential being able to hold my own in mele combat without being squishy, so I played around with my Mid's Build for it and with PFF & Temp invuln added into my canon I have around 60-70% defence to everything and capped Smashing/Lethal damage resistance. The endurance cost is rather high, but i'll just have to go for agelsss incarnate or stack on blue insps. Here's a data link if you want to add comments. Thanks for the tips(:I'd recommend Force Mastery unless you just love LRM. Temp Invulnerability offers more resist than Body Armor and Force of Nature is good in tough fights. The endurance cost shouldn't be an issue if you use IOs, since it's easy to get good end reduction enhancement and you can slot the Miracle and Numina's recovery IOs in Health if needed. They're very expensive, but a few task forces or a bit over a week of tip missions will let you get them with merits / hero merits (I use them on several characters and I've never actually paid market price for one yet).

In reference to your ranged defence slotting, I have absolutely no idea how to achieve this. >.
I'm a pure blapper at heart, and I grabbed the body armor for the fact that It gave me lethal and smashing dmg resistance for no endurance cost. My main strategy for mobs is to snipe with LRM and then blap the hell out of everyone while chowing down inspirations.
I've been considering making two builds, one with fly and munitions mastery and another with SS & fire mastery (for the rez) because recently I've realized that i tend to die when fighting all purples in the incarnate trials :[
Thanks for the critique by the way(: -
So I have been the proud player of my energy/energy blaster for a few years now (he was my first level 50) and I've discovered the miracle that is Mid's Hero Designer. After trolling through these here forums I finally got a build that I think is basically maxed out, but I would like some second opinions here. For this build I prioritized three things: Endurance, Accuracy, and Damage; Then I went for Spiritual as my alpha slot. I had a bit of trouble slotting my AoE damage powers but I think i've gotten it down. Here's the full mids export:
