  2. Thanks for your post Tex.

I'm sorry if some of my posts are bringing you down, but I'm calling'em like I'm seeing'em just like you are.

I do realize that NCSoft and Paragon Studios has many different parts and that these parts are sometimes in conflict with each other on a given issue. And I also realize that many of us wrongly call all of those parts collectively "devs".

I don't know which department or individual took the particular actions that riled me up. But it's a fair guess that it was some kind of collective process as you describe above.

And I also agree that it appears to be becoming a trend that the Dev's announce something and they get flamed before it even gets tested. I don't agree with the players that do that and make it into personal attacks. But part of that trend also seems to be that NCSoft/Paragon doesn't care what any particular segment of the playerbase has to say about this issue or that because they have something big and great coming down the pike that everyone should love. I've been anxiously awaiting for that for several months and all we've gotten in I15 is a mini issue consisting mainly of a buggy and poorly written TF.

Going Rogue could be promising, but it may be more of the same. We'll have to wait and see.

What you can do is decide what is best for you, and then act on it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And this is what everyone is doing.

I am saddened that people I consider friends and fun to hang with in-game are leaving and I selfishly wish that they would stay.

But it would also be a little hypocritcal of me to argue for them to stay when I cancelled one of my accounts for pretty much the same reason.

I don't disagree with anything you said, Red. I agree that the devs and the players both want the best from the game and sometimes we agree and sometimes we disagree. And I agree that both groups are falllible and imperfect beings. I can forgive all sorts of wrongs commited against me, my family, my friends, and my larger community.

But before their can be any forgiveness there must be contrition.

    Report all Farms

    [ QUOTE ]
    I'm there with you, Helios_Carnage.
    I'm already actively doing so.

I'm also taking time to report players broadcasting for :: <ul type="square">[*]more members for AE farm teams[*]players broadcasting that they are looking for AE farm teams.[/list]
I send along the time, server, and side that they sent the broadcast message along with a cut-and-paste of their message and their global handle.

Needless to say if you say anything about PL-ing you're getting reported as well.

What server are you on and what zone do you "patrol"?

    Report all Farms

You know, I used to believe farming created bad players because I heard other people say so and it makes sense logically.

And then we got vet badges. I found people that had less than the 12 month badge who seemed to know the game inside and out and I saw others with 36+ vet badges who apparently did not know basic things about how powers worked, where certain things could be found, etc.

Some of those 12 monthers were farmers and some of those 36+ monthers were RABID anti-farmers. Do you know what that said to me?

Farming doesn't make bad players, although it can make a bad situation worse. Bad players exist all over the game whether they farm or not. If you take the time to read outside sources (Mid's, forum guides, ParagonWiki, etc.) anyone can really become an expert at this game whether they played 5 days or 5 years.

Helios, you seem to have good intentions, but I don't think you have fully thought this through. Do you really believe that if every "legitimate" player reported what they believed to be a farm in AE, that the problem will be solved?

What if the farm had a story? What exactly is a farm? Is your definition of farm the same as my definition? And are either of our definitions consistent with the GM or customer service definition? How many "farms" would you say are in AE right now? How long would it take for them to review them all?

According to their own policies, whoever gets an AE arc pulled can file an appeal or make a change and resubmit. If the company grants the appeal and overturns the ban, the arc is then unbannable as long as it is unchanged. And if people continue to report it THEY MIGHT GET BANNED themselves as griefers.

My advice to everyone: 1) Play what you like, how you like with people that like the same things. 2) Avoid people who play a way that you don't like. 3) Try to be nice and polite to everyone, even if they are not nice and polite to you. 4) Report bugs whenever you see them. 5) Report people only when there is no other reasonable alternative.

And maybe that is the best point of all, if he can't do it outside of MA, then maybe that shows why MA has to be treated differently than normal content when looking at the potential for abuse through farming.

I guess he proved something afterall.

Can I quote you on that?

I'd guess that you already did some research, but in the off chance you didn't here's a link to the Wikipedia entry on Golden Age Superheroes. Take a look through &amp; maybe you'll see something that inspires a name.

I guess it's also potentially useful as a resource as to what names not to use! (At least the one's associated with super-strong, invulnerable flying guys.)

Reading through that list of names and running them through a sophisticated algorhythm, I have determined that the perfect golden age name is . . . .

    DR. CAPTAIN MAN!!
  13. I always thought one of the strengths of this game was the many different ways you could play it. You could be a role player, a min/maxer, a badger, a marketeer, a soloist, a PvPer, a farmer, or a fashionista. You could do any or all of these things or ignore them as much as you wished.

Recently the development team seems to be telling us, the players, that we are doing it wrong. That they didn't mean for us to PvP this way, or collect those badges that way, or farm here in this manner.

It's their sandbox and they can build it in anyway they want. But when they kick down the sandcastle I lovingly built and tell me it's parapets where too high, I hope they don't expect me to continue paying them for me to play the way that they want. If they continue to do that to other players they will end up with either an empty sandbox or one with the few souls left who will adoringly pay them to be told how to play. And then even those adoring fans will be told to leave when their payments aren't enough to cover maintenance.

If I had the power to change one thing, I would encourage the developers to adopt a design philosophy that recognizes and tolerates all those different playstyles without hamstringing them or playing those communities against each other.

I want to live in a tolerant and richly diverse world. Both online and off.

    Sorry.

Very impressive. Drats and curses to you!
  15. Quint, I think you are mistakingly attributing things to me. I mainly ignore broadcast and most chat unless it is directed specifically at me. I also engaging in farming and PLing. Not as much as some, but I'm far from an anti-farmer.

If you doubt me, you can check my post history.

And I did post two suggestions with reasons. One for the community and one for the devs. If you disagree with my reasoning then please explain why my idea is a bad one or where my logic is flawed. But those are suggestions and therefore are appropriate for this section of the forum.

Finally, if you think these posts are a rant, I think you haven't seen a really good one. Those are the ones where people type in all caps and make emotional statements without facts or logic.
  16. Wow. I heard the camera makes you look 10 lbs heavier but that didn't look like me at all.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I'll play devil's advocate and ask the opposite. Why SHOULD the farmers leave AP (from their prospective)? They obviously don't have a problem with the status quo, so there's no reason to go elsewhere.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've already given you a reason why farmers should move. You can farm in any AE building and in any zone with high level missions. Certain things like paying rent and going to RV can ONLY be done in Atlas.

I'll give you another one. The AE farm broadcast spam annoys a certain population. Annoyed people tend to complain. Enough people complain and the devs start to listen and nerf things. It is in the farmers' self interest to try to peacefully co-exist in order to keep doing what they enjoy.
  18. I think it's because Arcanaville likes SR . . .
  19. It's true. Anyone can be in any zone they want.

But I would think that people would like to congregate together with like minded people and away from those who disagree with or don't like farming.

Atlas is usually a very busy zone. It was before the architect buildings and Wentworths were added. There certain things that require you to go to Atlas, like paying rent and going to RV.

Other than "I'm already here, so you move" I don't see any other reason being presented why the farmers couldn't collectively agree to go to a less populated zone.

No, thank you. This is a suggestion for a change in both player behavior and MA search tools.
  21. When AT&amp;T (or any other business) accidently "loses" customer account info they usually send a letter to everyone informing them of what happened, how sorry they are it happened, and the steps they have taken to make it up to you and to prevent it from happening in the future.

They do this whether your particular info was stolen or not.
