  1. Sometimes you can have all the ingredients and fail due to bad luck. Sometimes good players have different styles that don't mesh well. It happens.
  2. I have been crafting and selling as I leveled my new archery/pain corrupter, but I haven't kept track of what he's made and sold. It's been mostly pool A and B items and only 3 or 4 pool Cs. I do know that he frequently has no open slots in the market and then something will sell for several million.

I think villains are so used to something NOT being available and not selling when they make it available, that they don't even bother with the market until 50.

So I think I will give my villains a rest for a few days to see if stuff moves and play some mid 20s heros. Striga sounds really good.
  3. AmeriKatt, it's ok not to like PvP, or to dislike COH's particular type of PvP. I respect anyone's decision not to engage in PvP or their stated distate for it. But I'm sorry that I just can't feel sympathy for someone who goes into a PvP zone and expects not to have to engage in PvP.

If you dislike PvP, don't go into the zones or the arena and you will never be burdened by it. But if you decide that you "need" to have a certain badge or one of the temp powers only available in a PvP area then you consent to be attacked by being in the area. It's stated very clearly in red letters by the zone contact.

Alternatively, you can spend a few inf. and buy yourself a temporary phase power. Use the countdown timer to run in (you cannot be attacked during the countdown), and use phase at the first sign of an attack. I would also pop a yellow inspiration periodically (unless you have some +perception from a power or friendly buff), so that you are more likely to see an enemy before they attack. You should have more than enough time between the countdown and the phase power to get any exploration badge.

If you are trying to get defeat badges, then I forsee you having continued problems.

Oh, and one other thing. There are badges one can only obtain by gaining enough reputation via PvP kills. What makes you getting your badge more important that a PvPer getting one of the reputation badges?

Petrifying Gaze should be stacked as a hold on greens.

Shadow fall grants resistance to fear, which the blue mitos like to cast a lot of.

Another great tip for /darks: Howling Twilight can use an oil slick to target off of to rez a group. So if there is a retreat and we need to raise the dead, ask if someone can drop an oil slick on the mound of dead bodies.

Of all the things you mentioned, this is the only one I found "jerky." All the other ones were folks just PvPing. Of course, that assumes that you are correct in your assumption of their intent -- that the person waited until the NPC was almost dead to prevent you from getting the kill. If they just happened to kill you then because that's when they saw you, then I think it was fair.

While some PvPers certainly deserve the "jerk" tag, I find that is more due to what they say than what they do. And if I'm going to judge people by their words, some of the most offensive stuff I have seen came from "badgers" in a PvP zone. Insults complete with a half dozen four letter words, racial epithets, death threats to PvPers and their families -- really over the top stuff.

But I rarely see anyone commenting about that behavior.
  7. I've had a very strange relationship with PvP in this game.

I have dabbled in it since it was first introduced on the test server for I4. I have never been exceptional at it, but I am good enough to have won a few tournaments as part of a team. As a solo player, I would die more than kill but also had my fair share of kills.

Every iteration of PvP has made me excited to try it out as much as I get excited to try out a new TF or new powerset. But eventually, I get disappointed.

The most fun I ever had in pvp was when RV was introduced on test and everyone was granted enough experience to instantly level to 40 and enough influence/infamy to buy SOs. It was exciting, chaotic, and while their were certain imbalances everyone was on an equal enough footing to keep it fun.

A similar experience is low level PvP. An arena match of characters at level 4 or 5 is a trip. A lot of it is just button mashing. But so what? I found it entertaining.

I also initially enjoyed base raids until we fought a team with a death trap spawn point. Our opponents had cleverly raised the floor on the spawn point and dropped caltrops and tarpatches and had players and guns waiting for us. We were half dead before we had fully zoned in.

The latest incarnation of PvP is the worst. There is no countermove to anything. You cannot escape unless you phase. The only slow effect is suppression upon attacking or being attacked -- but powers that are meant to slow do nothing. You cannot avoid being mezzed. And even melee characters need to have several -kb ios or risk being tossed around like a rag doll.

I could build a character with phase and the -kb ios, but I have no desire to. Under older systems I could casually participate in PvP even with SO builds. Sure, people with better builds could still beat me, but the differences weren't so extreme. The devs design intent of making it more casual friendly had the exact opposite effect.

So yes, I would PvP more if PvP worked better. I know that because I used to PvP more.
  8. Nine gigabytes? How long did it take you to complete that farm? Three days!?!?
  9. Space station shaped cookies for everyone on me!

    Congratulations!

Set me as a seal upon thine heart,
as a seal upon thine arm:
    for love is strong as death;
jealousy is cruel as the grave:
the coals thereof are coals of fire,
which hath a most vehement flame.

    Many waters cannot quench love,
neither can the floods drown it:
if a man would give all the substance of his house for love,
    it would utterly be contemned.

  13. Dispari, if you have any 45+ villains on justice, or would be willing to transfer one while it's free, I am sure Uber and I could show you how we can advertise for a team in global channels, get an interesting mix of powers, and complete the LRSF in under an hour (90 minutes tops if we have to do a shivan run).

My forum name is the same as my global, but without the _

    @Bionic Flea

Now, I could see building a team of doms, stalkers, and brutes that do smash/lethal damage and have no -regen having a difficult time. But I would either have to do that purposely or have a bad run of luck in finding only those powersets.

I don't think Uber or I are claiming that any old team can do this easily. It's like building a good balanced meal of a protein, a starch, and a fruit or vegetable. Yes, that requires certain ingredients. But there are so many possible combinations of those ingredients that it's unreasonable to say it's restrictive because you can't have a balanced meal of burgers, hot dogs, pork chops, and fried chicken.

    The Accolades

I can't speak to your experience, but I can tell you that I have several level 50s that don't have all the accolades. Some don't have any. My namesake character and my main villain have them all.

Some of the badges needed to get those accolades can be real boring grinds, although they've recently been improved. I just can't be bothered with getting the accolades for all my 50s. There's so much other stuff to do, including leveling up my next 50!
  15. And what would happen if you conducted a survey of persons that frequent Colorado's bars? You would have people judging the bars based on all sorts of different criteria that are relevant to them, including whether the bar allowed smoking or not.

Is it stupid for a survey taker to rate that way? Perhaps. Would you have that survey taker punished for answering in a way you consider to be stupid? Don't they have the right to voice their opinion (in the survey) based on factors relevant to them?
  16. What I'm saying is that it is unrealistic to assume that the game will have any better chance to have people choose things they like or dislike based upon anything other than their own personal whim. That is the essence of "taste."

You cannot successfully argue taste. No matter how often you tell me that caviar is the food of the gods and reserved only for the most discerning of palates, I will still think it tastes bad.

Therefore, having HighTreason tell Shubbie not to rate based on rewards and going so far as to intimate that doing so is griefing was unreasonable and distasteful.

    (Can you feel the irony?)

    Defense Issue

And don't redcaps have extra accuracy with their bows like players do?

My suggestion would be to try +1/x7 and see if that is a better run for you. The combination of extra accuracy from higher levels, debuffs, inherent accuracy, and the sheer number of attacks being thrown at you is overwhelming your defense. My only other suggestion would be to pick up aid self or a tray full of greens. Even soft capped characters get hit sometimes so you need a back-up plan for when you do.

Can you, or someone, please type in that side blurb? I'm now very curious.

And for the naysayers in this thread: I am not a WOW fan. I tried it and couldn't get into it. But it is the 800 pound gorilla in the MMO universe and to have our devs ignore it is silly and unrealistic. While I don't want this game to become WOW or WOW-like, I am sure there are design elements they can steal and refine.

Much of what I read in the posted article applies to this game as well as that one. BaBs has said similar things about creating smaller raids -- where everyone's role is important -- as a design philosophy behind the redesigned Hamidon raid.

    Itf.

I like the "desire to leave the zone" reason the best. It's certainly not going to be a speed run if people are leaving the zone, but if you want to store drops or pick up inspirations that seems like a good reason.

It should be clear even with a lack of firm standards that some criteria do not count as acceptable ways to judge arcs. One example would be judging an arc based on how cool you think the Author's name is. Another would be judging an arc based on game mechanics the author has no control over.

If you actually believed your own line, you would have to maintain that it would be acceptable to knock stars because your stalker couldn't use a shield.

Rating arcs based on things the author has no control over is rude and inappropriate AT BEST. Personally, I consider it just plain griefing and were I a dev, would consider it a punishable offense.
You do realize that this is precisely how things are rated in the "real" world. People buy something or vote for something or someone based on all sorts of reasonable AND unreasonable factors.

How many musicians have gold records not because of their talent, but because they are attractive? How many critically acclaimed TV shows are cancelled every season while American Idol and Survivor continue to dominate ratings?

In fact, I would say that in America the things that are the most popular and highest rated are all things that are not truly "the best" or great works of art.
  21. And that extra 10% run speed from slotting two procs and two end mods makes getting from mob to mob that much quicker.
  22. Very nice!
