Most of the people I play with are min/maxers to some degree or another but few of them have a stable of all purple/rare/PvPIO builds. Most of them have at least one character, usually their namesake, that they outfit with the best that they can. Sometimes they finish one and then start on a new character to pimp out, but it takes time to complete it.
The rest of their characters are modestly outfitted, whether that be with sets, commons, SOs, HOs, or some combination thereof. But they know what powers to pick, how to slot them, and how to use them to great effect in a given circumstance. -
All of the new content should not require extra-ordinary builds, tactics, or teamwork, but I look forward to at least some content that does require some or all of those.
Just like we have now with Hammy raids, Ship raids, STF and RSF -- there is nothing wrong with having somethings be a little more difficult than running in and clicking buttons mindlessly. In fact, I'd be disappointed if none of the new content had an element of difficulty greater than anything we have seen so far.
And if they did make something that hard, I would expect a commensurate reward in merits, HOs, or some other new shiney. -
I have a merc/dark MM, a cold/fire corr and an arrow/pain corr that can participate in any team you would like.
I think 12 nukes and 100 EoEs is a bit of overkill, but I guess it's better to be over-prepared than under. Anything unused can be saved for the next one.
Ideally, Brutes should only need 1 or 2 EoEs per wave. Other than the Hammy Taunter, regen buffs from the gather phase should get you by the first 30 - 60 seconds, but it's not bad to go ahead and pop one as you run in.
At 2/3rds to 1/2 health Brutes should go ahead and pop a second unless they have dull pain or something equivalent, then they can probably hold off if their heal fills them back up.
If everything is working as planned, all six yellows should be down before the expiration of the second EoE. But mierde happens so it's better to have more than less.
Similarly, unless you are doing a no-retreat raid, one bio-nuke for each or the first 3 waves is all you need. But extras can be used if there is a wipe. -

I have been guilty of SBing someone on a team after being asked not to.
I didn't do it on purpose to bug them. I just had a habit of working my way down the list every so often and buffing everyone to avoid the "SB PLZ" spam. The person that didn't want it was in the middle of the list and my fingers were faster than my brain.
I don't think that makes me a griefer or an idiot, but I suppose SnowGlobe and others would disagree. -

Nice article! I'm looking forward to trying these arcs and I hope this positive PR gets more subscribers.

Meh. I can understand the buffer just trying to be nice and I can understand the player that doesn't want buffs for all sorts of reasons. What I can't understand is the vitriol for having one position or the other.
Oh. It's the Internet. Nevermind. Vitriol is inherent. -
Quote:Sure. A couple of people on different servers are doing the same thing.I've been running my own solo level-locked characters on Guardian and occasionally posting items in the Mid-Level Crisis Generated Stuff thread. Is that OK? I am intentionally throwing some mid-level stuff into the market without being a member of the SG or even on Freedom.

Also, inspirations are broken. You should fight toe to toe like real men and stop complaining.
-
I always think that regens should go for recharge and +HP since they don't really start with any mitigation other than regen and heals.
-
I heard that several of those 18 were dual boxing it.
-
Yellow Mitos have extraordinary range and AOE defense (I'm talking waaaay beyond soft-cap). Fulcrum Shift takes a tohit roll. Are you sure that fulcrum shift was hitting?

I would have no problem if GR only had 1-20 missions. I would play them on new alts and on my old favorites to get any badges or for the fun of it. But I say that expecting that they would soon add additional content, say level 21-40 in I17 and 41-50 in I18.
If they did something like that, I would be satisfied. -
You can pick up an alternate reward, but not the same reward, within the time period. This works for Hamidon, Stateman's TF, and Recluse's SF.
I also thought it was 24 hours, but I remember begging the devs during Beta to reduce it so that regularly scheduled raids and TFs could be run everyday at the same time, without worrying if you finished it 1 minute too fast. -
For no particular reason other than my own imagination, I imagine that the Universal Enhancement Slots will be gained one by one by some process, whether that gaining experience, completing tasks, or whatever.
I further imagined that you would have to make a choice of what to slot to achieve some small but tangible bonus across your other powers. For example, you might gain 3% accuracy to all powers, or 3% damage, or 3% resistance, etc.
I would certainly take my namesake character through any new progression, possibly some others, but certainly not all of my level 50s. I have a lot of 50s, none of them is completely purpled out, although several of them have some purple enhancements. Most of them have at least a couple of good IOs and decent sets.
But a few have only generic IOs and some SOs and I could care less if I ever slot another enhancement in them. It doesn't bother me in the least.
While I can understand and sympathize with the OP's point of fearing to "have" to do x, y, or z over and over to get each of his stable of characters, I can't truly relate because I don't have that fear. I'm just looking forward to new challenges and interesting things to do and see. -
I've been silently leveling a few characters on Freedom for the last few months and I've had a few alts in Freedom for years that I never quite got around to finishing.
But I now have a level a few level 50s on Freedom from leveling or transfers: merc/dark MM, fire/cold corr, rad/psi def, emp/sonic def; an almost finished arrow/pain corr, and a bunch of lower level stuff.
Most of my characters are on Justice and I'm pretty experienced at running all the raids and TFs.
I joined RF2009 but don't talk much on it. If you need a body for a raid, TF, SF, or to round out a PvP team, send me a tell @bionic flea or @freebooter flea. -
I'm hoping its a revamp to the shadow shard to make it co-op, cleaned up task forces, and a new raid against Rularuu!!!
I also expect we will get that "global enhancement" that was discussed in the mysterious survey a while back:
Quote:SourceUniversal Enhancement Slots. Ten Universal Enhancement Slots are available to be earned in the expansion, and each one has the potential of adding significant power to the character, essentially bringing them to a hypothetical "Level 60" once they have earned all ten slots.
For existing City of Heroes and City of Villains players who have previously reached the level cap of 50, the Expansion will take them into outer space where they can now find challenges that test their powers and skills to the max. On an alien space station that mysteriously appears over Earth, Heroes and Villains will race to unlock the secrets of the place and be the first to reap the rewards that are only available to the best of the best.
A brand new Spy Archetype (class), power sets and player costume options will lead to a massive amount of new character and gameplay options. And a significantly enhanced character creator system will now allow characters to customize the effects (looks and colors) of their super powered attacks and defenses.
Here is some other things that were mentioned in the survey...
1.) New high level Space Station Zones (PVE, PVP, & Co-op)
2.) Characters that do not wish to change sides are rewarded by becoming exemplary heroes or villains, and earning rewards not available any other way
3.) Heroes and villains who go to the other side can also act as Double-Agents
4.) Character Creator 2.0 includes Powers Customization, allowing players to customize not only the character, but also the actual look of its powers
5.) Players undertake missions that define their character's morality and steer them in a more heroic or villainous direction
6.) By switching sides (going from good to bad or bad to good), players can access content "on the other side" (heroes can experience villain zones and content, and villains can experience hero zones and content)
7.) Completely new low-level player experience/zones for new characters in which new characters do not begin a hero or villain, rather become one or the other through early gameplay
8.) New Spy Archetype, Power Sets & Costumes
9.) Universal Enhancement Slots - at level 50, these enhance powers to the character, essentially bringing them to a hypothetical "Level 60" once they have earned all ten slots
Here are some of the suggested names you had to choose from for the new content...
Rogues or Vigilantes
Rogues or Spies
Spies or Vigilantes
Moral Compass or Morality Meter
Shades of Gray or Crossing Over
Allegiance or Alliance
Now this part of the survey offered information about the new Player Based Mission Content....
This is a new module for City of Heroes, fictionally presented as a training exercise for Heroes and Villains, that allows players to build their own Missions and Story Arcs and share them with others in the game. Using an intuitive interface similar to the game's detailed Character Creator, players can create missions by selecting options like size and type of map/environment, mission objectives and encounter types, and difficulty level of each encounter. Additionally, players can write all mission story fiction and character dialogue.
Players can create their own missions and they can play missions that have been created by other players. Once you have finalized and "published" your missions, they are accessible by all players across all servers. All players can rate player created missions and a Mission Browser lets players find available missions and story arcs through a variety of tabs, sorts and filters in an auction house type environment.
As missions are played and more people positively rate them, the creator gains rewards and access to unlockable content for his/her missions. Rewards will also be given to players of the missions. Players will gain rewards such as badges and even XP for playing user created missions and StoryArcs.
Here is a list of the feature from the player based mission creator...
1.) Write your own dialog for all aspects of the mission.
2.) Build Missions and Story Arcs using a Character Creator-like interface
3.) Players can build powers for some NPCs by selecting from a group of primary and secondary power pools and attaching them to the NPCs
4.)Players can build a boss (and other NPCs) to place within their mission by creating its looks in the Character Creator and assigning it the powers of an existing NPC (non playable character)
5.) Select a variety of components for the overall mission including Level Range, Map, Length, Villain Group, Pacing, Time to Complete, Goals/type of mission, etc.
6.) Customize Encounters to your preference (Place in End Room, Select Villain Group, Name Boss, Select Critter Type, Select Hostage NPC Critter, etc.)
7.) Using an in-game auction house type interface, other players can find user created StoryArcs across all shards
8.) Creators can include their own character as a contact within the mission(s)
9.) Creators don't have access to high level content (environments, NPCs, etc.) until their own characters have encountered/defeated them in the main game.
10.) Using an out-of-game web interface, other players can find user created StoryArcs across all shards
11.) Rewarding creators of the most popular content with exclusive unlockable content such as signature heroes and villains or unique maps
12.) A rating system that allows players to rate missions or flag them for inappropriate content, allowing the developer to remove bad content and potentially ban players
13.) Players can enter the mission maps to adjust placement of the NPC spawns from their pre-selected positions
What are we to make of all this? Our reaction here at Massively is that it is genuine, if only because Beef Cake's integrity is not in doubt. The question is how much of this content will be coming to the game, and how much is being speculated upon with an eye to possible future release. It is, after all, a survey.
That said, the nature of what is mentioned here ties in perfectly with the sense of 'big revelations just around the corner' that NCsoft have been giving off lately. The only point in its disfavor is the mention of customizing the look of your powers, which has previously been discarded several times as an enormous amount of work, while not technically impossible to achieve. -
Hello and belated welcome to my good friend TV.
Can we get programming like this?
-
Hi Doc! Congratulations on your promotion.
I'm looking forward to your work and reading more from you on the boards. -
Congratulations and good luck!
How much of the design is already set and when can we really see your design vision in the game as a whole.
In other words, I assume that much of Going Rogue and the next issue or two have already been designed and are in the process of being programmed and polished. What issue do you think will be the first War Witch Design Vision Issue? -
Quote:"You've beaten down [insert gladiator name here] so many times that he/she figured it was easier to help you than to get beaten again."
how would you explain in-game the ability to summon an enemy group to fight with you?
