Yes, switching servers and buying character slots is free on the test servers.
  2. First, thanks for coming to the forums to talk to us.

Second, I think it might be a good idea if people tell you how they heard about the game and what made them buy it. If it worked for us, then chances are it will work for others like us.

I learned about the game about six years ago from an aggressive comic book ad campaign. It didn't last very long, but the ad was placed in a lot of titles that I bought. I have been a comic book geek since before I could read (I am now 46) and still buy a dozen or so comics every month -- mostly Marvel stuff. I bought the game because I saw it on the shelf at Wall-Mart while I was there shopping for something else and picked it up on a whim. I had no idea it was an MMO or that it had a monthly fee associated with it. I NEVER intended to play beyond the free month. And yet, here I am six years later.

Third, let me add my name to the chorus calling for Paragon Studios to have more of a presence at Comic and Gaming conventions. You don't have to have one person attend them all, or send a huge contingent to each and every one. But if you were able to send someone, anyone, YOU maybe, to most of the bigger ones and gave Con attendees a free month of the game, then I think you will hook a lot of them. While it's not cheap, I really can't see a more cost effective way of getting the product into the hands of your target audience.

Finally, along the same lines and as someone else mentioned above, get involved with free comic book day and give away a David Nakayama one-shot story with an ad for the game and a code for a free month of play.

Again, thanks for sharing with us. I have been a fan for many years and am looking forward to many more years of new and exciting City of Heroes content.

    Done. Good luck.

I hope you post your paper when it's done. Hey, you aren't Twixt, are you?
  6. I prefer one night events to ongoing ladders.

A 5 x 5 (or whatever) round robin on a Saturday afternoon would be awesome.

I think it would be cool to double the drop rate for everything on double XP weekends. It would be interesting to see how that played out. The market usually dries up during double XP as people are out there getting as much XP as quickly as possible and don't bother putting much for sale, but they might buy the occassional piece as they level up.

A lot of people level inside AE because you can choose your opponent and don't have to travel from mission to mission. So those people don't even get drops until they spend their tickets, further removing supply.

After double XP, people flush with cash want to buy enhancements for all these new characters they leveled and prices go up significantly. A doubling of the drop rate would increase the supply and therefore limit the price spike. But a doubling of the drop rate for a short period would not be "crazy" or lead to everyone having a purpled warshade.

In fact, as I think more about it, double XP is a significant source of inflation. Huge influx of cash and greater demand caused by an expanding population of characters with a corresponding drop in market activity that is never "made up." The market eventually settles back down, but it never catches up for that lost time.

Based on the wording of the post, I think it would be a good test to run the same mission(s) with the same character or team and note the time and any differences. Even if you can't see any differences, they might be able to get the data they need from mining.

I'll copy a character over tonight and run a few ouros on each, marking the time, any noticeable variances and report back

  12. Yeah, I just looked into this.

I logged into training room 2. I know it was 02 because I had absolutely no characters, whereas, I have 3 dozen or so on regular test server. I asked @Taryn, who was speaking in Beta Testers channel, to become a global friend and we checked each others "Shard."

It showed that she was on training02 and that I was on trainingpool. There is a difference between the internal and external names of the servers.

So this confirms Kheldarn's explanation, explains what Antoinette experienced, and dashes my hopes for some kind of cross-server teaming.

  15. For the last few months, I have been listing "decent" crafted pieces from level 28 up. Some of these are pool Cs acquired with merit rolls, others are pools A and B that I got as drops. Things like Ghost Widow, Impervium Armor, Red Fortune, Crushing Impacts, Kismet, Efficiency Adaptor, Adjusted Targetting, Multi-Strike. Not the top shelf stuff but not the dregs either. They have pretty good set bonuses and are great for frankenslotting. I use lots of stuff like that as I level up.

I put them for sale a good bit under last 5 and they usually sit there for months -- either side. Occassionally, I'll get lucky and something sells for 10-20 million. But usually it's stuff that goes for 2 - 3 million, if at all. I don't mind the tying up the slots as I have lots of characters and I can't play them all. But this morning I ran out of slots on my latest project -- a Traps/DP defender -- and just deleted 3 pieces that have been there since February.

I started doing this as part of Fulmen's Mid-Level Crisis and I thought I would be filling a community need. But if the last 5 are currently showing November through September of 2009 there's no point to listing them, even as a community service.

It seems that everyone is after the same premier sets and procs and everything else is only good to line your bird cage.

Just goes to show that Justice did have and does have awesome PvPers.

It doesn't HAVE to be a suit of armor. Rockslide, a mutant affiliated with the X-Men's junior team is a mutant made of rocks that can disconnect his arms and launch them. Kane, also from Marvel, comes from the same Weapon X program that made Wolverine. He has cybernetic hands that he can launch.

I suppose you could also wield magic gauntlets.

  20. My ideas:
    1. Make PvP kills have the same chance to drop salvage and Pool A and B as bosses. Even if I don't get a PvP drop, at least I may get something worthwhile every now and then.
    2. Change the bonuses offered from "junk." If you replaced debt reduction with +influence, and combined all the various hold, sleep, stun, and confuse resistance with a general Mez Resistance, and made similar changes more people would want them.
    3. Curb XP and influence. At the rate we earn XP and influence, nobody stays in the thirties for more than a few hours of game time.
    4. Allow players to pick level of merit rolls.
    5. Merge the markets. Or at LEAST let the Praetorian market access both sides creating a virtual merged market.
  21. I moved one villain to Freedom from Justice and started leveling some new characters there as many of my friends moved to Freedom.

But after I got a few characters to 50, mainly soloing or getting AE PLs from friends, I found I missed Justice's raids, TFs, and community in general. Nothing against Freedom. There's a lot of really cool people there. But I did feel like an outsider, whereas Justice makes me feel like Norm at Cheers.

I also missed my stuff. I have an SG and a VG on Justice with lots of stored enhancements and salvage and lots of "rich" characters that can help twink new ones. I felt like I had to start all over on Freedom.

So while I still play my Freedom characters from time to time, I went back to spending most of my time on Justice.
  22. Good luck, Froggy.

I'm sure you'll do well, get a job at Paragon Studios, and come back as a red name!

Or at least get a job and come back.

That was my feeling as well.

I have enough trouble keeping up with this board. Why do I need another rehashing the same ground?
  24. To be able to bring my stuff and characters. Seriously.

I'm excited about the possibilities of what the devs could do with a new engine. But I don't want to start all over from the beginning.
