Quote:I thought it was me. I guess my name is Fred.
Step I: Remove the Arc Clutter. There are literally thousands of arcs that are abandoned, unfinished, broken beyond repair, or otherwise not in use in the system at the moment. This is a repeat of a suggestion that I think was initially proposed by Fred, but it might have been someone else. This is how I would implement it.
a.) Make an announcement in the forums that in 30 days, all arcs that have not been either played or edited by the author for 90 days prior to the date of the purge will be unpublished by the system.
b.) Two weeks prior to the date of the purge, make an in-game announcement regarding the purge repeat the in-game announcement 1 week prior to the purge as well.
c.) On the date of the purge, unpublish all arcs that have neither been played nor edited for a period of 90 days.
d.) Repeat the purge once every six months using the same criteria.
Quote:I think that there does need to be some purging of the AE.
If I were in charge, I'd start announcing that the stories will be wiped in 90 days and for everyone to make sure they back up anything they want saved. I'd post that in several places on the forum, on the updater, and every 10 days in the global message of the day as a countdown with the last ten days counted down as well.
Then nuke it. Erase all of it and start fresh. -

Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby
Me gotta go
Fine little girl waits for me
Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone
Never know if I make it home
Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby

Quote:My apologies. I did read that a few days ago but thought that you only looked at 5 stars. My bad.You may have missed it earlier in the thread, but I did some research on arcs published since 11/1/09 to now. There are a grand total of 3 arcs in the last 7 months with over 100 plays and 2 of those are at 5 stars the other is at 4 currently. That's out of over 11,000 arcs. There are a couple old defunct farms with over 100 plays in there too. This I don't see as an issue since if they were exploit based they should not be in the system anyways.

I wonder how many arcs that are sitting below the radar with an average of 4 stars would jump to HOF status if the requirement were changed to 100 five star votes?
I'm not saying it would be good or bad to have some arcs fall into that category and gain HOF status. But I have no doubt that it will make some players upset that these formally 4 star arcs leapfrogged into HOF status. Especially if one or more of those were farming arcs. -

From a game mechanic standpoint there's no such things as electric powers as an attack type, so enemies can't specifically be resistant to "electrical powers". An enemy's resistance/protection to being immobilized has nothing to do with any of the other effects or the name of the immobilizing power. -
I don't know what the magic number should be, but I do think that a 5 star average after 1000 plays is absurd. I think that x number of 5 star votes, rather than an average, would be more appropriate.
The only problem I have with 100 is that it's still low enough to be "gameable." A few popular people in a big SG could get that in a night. -
DR takes your bottom line number, after all slotting, set bonuses, buffs, accolades, whatever, and then applies the formula:
Quote:FinalValue = OriginalValue * (1 - ABS(ATAN(A * OriginalValue)) * 2/pi * B)
Where:
FinalValue is the value of the buff after applying DR
OriginalValue is the value of the buff before applying DR
ABS(x) is the Absolute value function
ATAN(x) is the Arctan function
A and B are parameters set per Archetype, per Attribute, and per Aspect. This means that there can theoretically be several thousand diminishing returns curves. However, as noted in Arcanaville's guide, there are certain rules governing the values of A and B. A and B default to 0.33 and 0.80 for most archetypes and attributes. However, the values can vary widely. -
I say, "No thanks" to consequences. Nothing against you or your idea, I just don't like the concept of being penalized for playing the game as designed.
We already know from the different promos that the devs have done that it's not going to be a flip of a switch and *BOOM!* you're on the other side. And we already know that you can't take your inf with you. That's enough consequence for me, thank you. -
Quote:3 level 50 range IOs is 76.5 and 5*7.5=37.5Unless I'm missing something, 5 x 7.5% Range increases + 3 range slotted in an 80 foot range Grav ability is only 157 Range.
76.5 + 37.5 = 114
80*2.14 = 171.2.
The problem is that he is not accounting for ED. ED reduces 76.5 to 58.5 which puts you right around your 157.
I'm also not sure if there is any DR on range. I don't think there is but I'm not certain. -

I organized a group to try swiss draw during the closed beta and we noticed & reported the bugginess then. This bug should not be news to them.
If the bug is hard to isolate and correct, that's one thing. If they are throwing out some players bug reports until someone they like reports it, that is something altogether different and highly inappropriate.
I don't know which of the two is more accurate or perhaps there is a third reason, but I would hope that option two is far from the truth. -
Thanks, Castle.
It takes no small amount of guts to admit to a mistake and fix it.
To err is human, to forgive divine. To admit error is even more sublime. -
There's a moonbase one that is pretty funny. I think maybe Ascendant did it? Or did he do another one that was kinda funny. I forget. It all blurs together.

I have played all the guest arcs and most of the dev's choice and hall of fame. Although I will agree that those are, in most cases, the cream of the crop available in AE, I have not enjoyed many of them.
I do recall Fearghas' arcs as standouts ( I LOVE Longbow Joe) and was pleased to see him hired on as Dr. Aeon.
I also look for the latest farm because I'm interested to see how those things work. I don't mind using them to get a few levels in the 20 - 35 level band, or to amass some tickets if I am in need of supplies. But after a few runs all farms bore me, even if the rewards are great.
Finally, I ocassionally look for low level missions to substitute for sewer runs and Hollows, since I have done that so many times. It's very hit and miss in this area. It's difficult to make a mission or arc in the 1 - 20 range that is either not an imitation of existing dev content (eg. clear out skull's base), or something that is unique but incredibly difficult because of custom mobs, or a few that are unique and just hard enough but give out subpar rewards.
When I engage in looking for low level content I frequently get upset due to rising debt or a feeling that I wasted my time if I only get a bar's worth of experience for two hours of play. At those low levels, the XP should be fast and furious. That is when I usually look for a farm to make up for lost time and then leave the AE for a few weeks.
One final note: I can't think of any story arc that I have repeated or care to repeat other than my own vanity mission. Even the good ones don't call to me to do over and over again. -
The servers went down for maintenence earlier today. You might have caught them in that window.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. You didn't invoke the "Standard Code Rant" disclaimer.
Most of the changes PvPers actually want is to return to already existing code that was in the game prior to I13.
In the alternative, they would like the travel suppression, heal decay, and diminishing returns on buffs to be less severe than currently implemented. A few hours on a spreadsheet could probably accomplish that.
The art for 100 badges would take way longer, if I had to guess.
standard code rant . . . yadda yadda yadda . . . -
I'm torn between Gigas and Samuel Tow. I agree that the game has become too stagnant and therefore, boring. But I also don't want to see things changed too radically because there is a certain comfort in the old canon.
What I think we need more of is new enemies and most of all NEW MAPS and NEW SKINS. It would be great to add an NPC to each group every so often. Encountering Succubi in COT mobs and Meat Doctors with Freakshow added spice to fighting against those groups.
But even with all new bad guys with all new powers, it will always seem like the same old grind if I do it in tech_lab_01, abandoned_warehouse_02 or blue_cave_03. I'm sure that Praetoria will give us new maps, but we need upgrades in the existing content as well. A supermarket, a mall, a hotel, a high school or college campus or anything else would all be very welcome additions.
