  1. Another one for the list:

Macros and Binds - While I think a lot of forum users do make use of them, I am constantly asked how I am able to find NPCs or glowies so quickly (/macro Find, "Target_name computer" - edit name as necessary), or how I can type so fast in the middle of combat (/bind NUMPAD6 "Listen up $target, you are going down next")
  2. I'm sorry to hear that.

I salute Sailor Rush for all he did for this country and hope that his family finds condolance.
  3. I'm surprised at how few people use the little empowering vet-pets. Considering the lengths people go through to squeeze out a few points of defense, here's a free way yo get 3% and an endurance boost on top of that!

    PVP raids

Base raids were incredibly fun to me and were just the sort of instanced PvP you are describing.

On very rare ocassions, there have been glitches where villains were placed into hero missions (or vice-versa) and they were able to fight each other.

I think the best PvP raid type mission would be a safeguard/mayhem. The villains have to rob the bank and get away, eliminating all obstacles in their way, while the heroes attempt to stop them.
  5. You may be right, Mega Jamie. I just started using it this morning and only used it on one mission. I saw myself get healed, probably on the summon, and then saw green numbers over my head, which I assumed were mine. But I was standing on the pet so that could easily be confused.

I'll try it again tonight on some low level enemies so that I can closely see what is happening without fear of dying. Obviously, I'll also check the combat logs, which I failed to do this morning.
  6. Grey, I think you are making the assumption that your pick would be a power that does some kind of damage. For those, yes, one slot is probably not enough. But there are plenty pf powers, especially in the pools, that can be very effective with just one slot.

Foe example, take an extra travel power. It might be better with two or three slots but you can get by easily with just one. Or any of the invisibility powers do fine with just one.

But even some primary, secondary, and APP powers can work with just one slot. Maybe you are a brute that skipped taunt because it didn't fit your build. Or you never picked up the patron pet because you ran out of picks. Again, more slots could make them better, but just having these exrta powers with one slot will make all your characters that much more powerful and versatile.
  7. I haven't gotten high enough to test that, BUT I did slot a Call of the Sandman +heal proc and it goes off ocassionally at the casting at every so often from critters in the field.

I get 58-51 pts healed each time it goes off at level 43. I'm not sure what causes the different amounts. Maybe it's minions and lts? Sometime's I'll even get multiple hits of the proc, which is very nice.

So since the heal proc goes off of static field's tics, I'm guessing the placate proc will too.
  8. I too was hoping for more from my gremlins. My first controller was grav/FF so I am spoiled by the toughness and versatility of Singularity. I've since cared for fire imps, phantom army, mercenaries, and assorted arachnos flunkies given to me by patrons.

Gremlins have to be one of the most fragile. They are a lot like imps - not too tough but they get into melee and keep cycling their attack until the target is gone. Like Imps, they will also run after people and bring additional aggro.

That said, I did notice an increase in the speed of my taking down spawns when I got them. And I still notice the increase in aggro towards me when they go down. Their damage aura at 43 with a few slots tics at 8 points of damage and their brawl does 70 something. I don't remember how much damage their jolting chains does, but I love the chaos they cause with it. I'm also looking forward to getting surge of power so that I can look like a third gremlin.

I would not want them to have a ranged attack because then they might stay at range and do that instead of getting in close. But I do wish that their energy shield granted smash/lethal resistance in an amount equal to their energy resistance.
  9. The news of inherent fitness and incarnate powers has broken morale on a permanent basis.
  10. Superheroes look better in comic books than in real life. Real people look silly wearing leotards with capes.

I'm all for adding more costume pieces and adding updated versions of existing pieces. But sometimes a realistic look is worse than flat, two dimensional look.
  11. I am truly sorry for your loss, SpaceNut.

My dad lost a fight to cancer 16 years ago. I still think of him. In fact, I asked him for some advice as I was walking in to work this morning.
  12. Maybe he's practicing for the Ironman Triathalon?
  13. *Secures character name: "Wardrobe Malfunction"*
  14. I vote for Option 2.

I prefer to have the choice to use old or new pieces. Dealing with the additional clutter won't be too bad if the old and new are next to each other or if we had a new and improved interface.
  15. I'm from Justice, not Champion.

Oh, you were talking to the blue guy above me, weren't you?
  16. True. It was a bit of a necro.

But it just pointed out to me that no top of all her other powers, AmeriKatt has precognitive abilities!

I also vote for a War Witch Task Force, with Apex and Horus!

It would be nice if the coven could come back, too. I was so sad when Clarissa's cat died.

(*huggles Miss Melissa and squees* with delight, then romps off after a butterfly*)

[*Yes, that *was* me who used this term at the 6th Anniversary get-together at Pocket D, prompting you to ask about the term's etymology. RAWR! ]
It sounds like we will be getting an Apex Task Force. Who knows, maybe War Witch and Horus are in it!
  17. I was also on a team on Justice that did it. Our melee folks were whiffing left and right. I was on a double raged tank with some other tohit buffs flying around so I was hitting fairly regularly.

I can't really describe how we did it, beyond the strategies that are already in this thread. My group did have lots of temp powers and especially lots of HVAS which prefer range and have a -regen attack.

Maybe that made the difference. *Shrug*
  18. Mooooo!

Also, tonight Mu of Flea will take the villainous path and complete his villain morailty mission. I'll be interested to see the badge changes and then start my Scirocco arc.

After that, I will start my climb out of the pit and back into the heroic light, but I may have to run some SF's before I go and raid my VG's bins first.

Anyone interested in joining me send a tell to @bionic flea.

P.S. It doesn't have to be an electric powered character. I was hoping that there would be lots of electric doms and controllers about along with electric blast and electric armor, but I guess not.
  19. This ask a dev thread started when the announcement was made that she was taking the reins as chief poobah. Accordingly, anything related to the game was fair game for a question.
  20. DAMN IT!

    I WANT to apologize!!

    Leaving the game

To LSK - Sorry to hear of your troubles and your departure. I hope you can come back soon.

To Guill - Nooooo! You can't say goodbye, you have to say hello.

    Just saying hi!

Welcome to the game and the server.

I found that soloing worked best for me when I first started playing the game because I needed to figure out all the little details like what button to push and when to push it. Since you seem to be more of an MMO vet than I was, you may get a handle on it quicker than I did.

Here's a couple of links that may make your stay here more enjoyable or at least provide you with more information than you ever wanted to know about the game.

City of Data - is a compendium of what all the different powers in the game do. It's very detailed.

Paragonwiki - is a constantly evolving encyclopedia of the game. It is light years ahead of any fficial" information that you may find.

Mid's Hero Planner - is an aid to help you plan and outfit your character outside the game so that you can tweak it, make changes, and see the results without making any semi-permanent changes in the game. There is also Suckerpunch's online planner, which is similar and works with Macs.

Another great way to find teams is to build your own or offer your services. Typing "/search" in the in-game chat will bring up a box that will allow you to search for players by type, by zone, by level, by name, or all of the above. You can also see from the color coding whether a player is teamed, unteamed, the leader of a team, or in a mission.
  23. I also recently rediscovered that mind link provides 30% unenhanced resistance to psi in addition to its defense and tohit boosts. A widow on each team, while not essential, would be very helpful.

As would any dark armor or dark miasma character, which are also very resistant to psi.
  24. My apologies to Pum.

Earlier I said I would prefer to have dark miasma over widows. While I still lean that way, I forgot that mind link is a 30% unenhanced resist to psy. I was only thinking about mind links defense and disregarded the resist.

Widows are definately an AT that can be extremely helpful for this trial.
  25. A good guide. Thanks to BlazingTiger and the other contributers.

    My two cents:

The Trial can be amazingly easy or frustratingly difficult. The only difference between those two are balance and coordination.

One easy way to coordinate the initial attack is to have the leader of each team, AND ONLY THE LEADER, go to their designated pylons and either port everyone to them or have folks gather behind them. Frequently, players unfamiliar with the trial (or pets) will get aggro early by flying by the willforge or gathering too close. This should help eliminate the problem.

I suggest that teams congregate on the ground behind the pylon and opposite to the willforge. That provides a nice flat surface to summon pets, is big enough to accomodate the whole team, and should have all three teams at about the same distance to the rularu spawns.

I also like to tell my teams to break off attacking when they see their bar get to the "c" in "Psychic". This not only helps them have a visual aid rather than determining how much is 25%, it also makes everyone on the team keep an eye on the bar and hopefully will learn to speed up or slow down to keep pace with their neighboring teams.

Although the AV's crazy regen and ocassionally the storm powers are problematic, I believe that the biggest cause of failure (other than lack of coordination at the pylons) is team wipes from the rularu spawns. They are the bane of most melee characters. Lots of psy damage which is a whole in many armor sets and the eyeballs cut through soft-capped defense like it wasn't there. As stated above, anything that provides psy defense or resistance is great for this trial.

Remind your teams that they can craft some psi protection at the base empowerment station, buy a psionic shield from the Vanguard Merit store, and use the Elusive mind accolade from participating in Rikti Invasions. None of them provide extraordinary protection, but sometimes you only need to have one more hitpoint to hit your heal or pop some greens.

Having a few dark armor, willpower, widows, or dark miasma players can be very beneficial because of all this psy damage.
