    Laughable?

Only thing worth End Draining in PvP is a Stone Brute, and you can do that just fine with just power sink & your epic shield (as they slowing drain themselves, not to mention your normal attacks have drain components).

I used to have a 3 hold Blaster build, for Hami raids, but in PvP, i found that i could Kill almost everything in 3 BU+Aim hits, so why bother with holding? As you said, they happily pop BF's.

1 Immob is sufficient generally, stops most other than someone with combat jumping.

And as far laughing at Damage & Speed, it works for me, survivability is up, and kills have never been higher

[/ QUOTE ]Not entirely laughable, i didnt say that, i actually agree with damage and speed, i just disagree with ur use of the elec utility.

PvP blasters have often fallen to end drain, every AT is susceptible to it, and PS will barely touch a stone brute tbh. If i have to tell people here what the key to draining things with drain resist is,well i wont actually, let them figure it out or search.

which PvPer doesnt have CJ? really?

as a dueler i find that i fight melee ATs far more often as people are often more adept with them, so taking things out in more than a few hits is pretty necessary.

just as a thought, how do you cope without holds or drains when soloing +2 boss spawns?

o and im not sure what you were on about with epic armours draining end either.

  3. play what you like marsipan , i'm sure keith will have some ideas for you anything/rad is good. storm psi imo is far less use than storm/elec in PvP. whatever you choose you know well it is more about how we play as a group than any one set.

MCX, same thing, play what you like but WS is more of a swiss army debt toon than a PB (i know yours is in the 20s atm). due to the lack of self heals (which require targets in WSs) and self buffs of various sorts I think PBs are far better suited to PvP, also they have stacks of -def which is useful, more so than the pesky slow of WSs. Up to you tho, i don't think Kheldians are the best idea for PvP generally as they excel at nothing. It's more about a fun team to level together at the end of the day .

I have a lv50 En/Dev Blaster, and obviously didn't have Build Up due to my secondary, but I never took Aim from the primary either.

I don't think I suffered as a result, I was still the last man standing in most of the missions during the 30-50 level range, and could take down enemies with relative ease, and still can post-ED.

All I'm saying is, although it's a ncie addition, it's far from being essential.

[/ QUOTE ]Of all your powers on your neg/dev which do you think allows you to contribute the most in teams as a damage dealer? : /

IMO and at a guess it was cloaking device that saved you in conjunction with having a clue about aggro as a blaster.

I agree with the nay say posts that you don't need these 2 powers, and agree with the post that says no power is essential, this thread is merely about letting new and less experienced blasters know what these powers do as it's not obvious from their descriptions how good they are.

  5. [ QUOTE ]
Indeed, i agree with this post, Build + Aim = yumyum.

    But remember kids...

    Unslotted Build Up damage ( blaster ) = 100+100
    Slotted damage ( 3 SOs ) = 100+95
slotted Build Up Damage = 100+95+100

So Slotted Build Up damage is 295/195 times more than the Slotted attack. This is a 51% boost in damage.

So it starts off by doubling your damage pre-SO's/DO's, but afterwards, it only adds 50%

    Shnyet AWAY

[/ QUOTE ]Your assuming people have 3 slotted their damaging powers. Personally my best example of why Aim and Build Up add more to this is that I have a minor DoT (damage over time) power and another AoE which is slotted for 3 things, non of which are damage, but it does do damage. So for these powers I still get my 100% boost to damage which is as good as ever at level 50

I think you're kind of aiming for the PvP slant Plight, I only took Build Up and IMO (and not liking the colour yellow) didn't feel the need for a another self buff and never had it, nor felt like an inadequate blaster, either in PvP or PvE.

I will be taking Aim and Build Up on another blaster, but one thing I will say about Aim and Build Up - yes, it will probably devastate your target, possibly even eliminate them, but that's you. Spent. You're vunerable straight after you've fire.d off those buffs and let them go, and good PvPers can take advantage of this.

[/ QUOTE ]What are you talking about Fraz? two points...

    1. In PvE any blaster with these powers will outperform a blaster with the same powers but minus Aim and Build Up

    2. Aim and Build Up have no negative effects on a blaster at all, not even an animation immobilisation. I think maybe you are talking about tier 9 primaries which have huge 'self -end -rec' debuffs.

If this was a PvP thing I would have said so, I have a lot of hours of PvE with and without these powers, and I have played in PvP without them. As I said, this post is aimed at blasters as a damage dealing AT, not at any particular blasters

    Short Circuit?

any build is about priorities so i respect any decision u made shock, although let me say that any power which lets you stand in the midst of the enemy perfectly safe is imo invaluable. if you happen to nrg secondary then you are looking at a double duration -rec debuff too i think (20 seconds on even levels). I find this power more important in pve than any one single damage power due to it's uniqueness. It is also the defining power of the elec primary as no other blaster power can do what this does (EMP epic but doesn't really compare tbh).

    just my two cents

SC was always worth having, in every issue. The only time I have seen SC not really be worth it is when People take it and don't slot it.

  10. Hi there people, new, old, clueless and confuzzled.

I have just read a post where a friend was talking about how, many blasters do not take both Aim and Build Up. I've also run into a lot of blasters in game without one or both of these powers.

I'd just like to say that if Aim and Build Up are in your sets (they aren't in Assault Rifle or Devices) then to maximise your potential as glass cannon, you need these powers. These are all about doing more damage more often, and for many blasters, damage is all you have (utility is discussed elsewhere I know).

I played a blaster for a few months without Build Up when I started a few years ago and was amazed when I got it and slotted it. I didn't pick up Aim for about 9 months and I never regretted anything so much, and I was very happy indeed with the benefits it brought.

I recommend slotting both of these powers with 3 recharge reduction enhancements, and if you plan to PvP, add as many to hit enhancements as you can spare. Try and fit these powers in before too many levels go by, 15 is very early, while the early 20s is sensible, by 30 these powers really should be part of your build.

[EDIT in response to a quick reply]: These powers boost damage and accuracy the same proportion of base values at all levels, so where, for example, Build Up boosts your damage in the mid to late game from around 195% (enhanced) to 295%, at level 12 or so the values would be boosted from around 120% (enhanced) to 220%, a far greater proportional reward at earlier levels indeed.[/Edit]

I hope this post will help make many new and existing blasters mash more and more foes into the ground ever before, and allow blasters as an AT to outdamage scrappers, it is the one the deities of CoH intended it to be.

    Plight

P.S. A kind note to all of the freedom of build types who do not wish people to follow cookie cutters. Aim and Build Up are in nigh on every blaster set; blasters do damage, people enjoy the game more when they die less and they die less with builds that have optimised function. If you want to create a concept toon without these 2 powers then go for it and good luck, but if you are new to CoH or blasting, or feel that your blaster is underperforming, these are 2 very quick fix powers to get into your attack cycles.

    elec/elec

    [ QUOTE ]

i thought elec/elec was about end drain, where is all the end draining?

[/ QUOTE ]true and yet not.

As luminos says, you dont need holds if u can stomp a squishy, but most squishies in pvp have BFs and move fast.

so my two cents, and for your 900 hours, i have over 3000 .

your holds: 1 hold will allow you to beat anyone without mez protection, 2 will overcome squishies with acro, 3 will allow you to hold lower level melee ATs but not tanks and 3 with full slottage will allow you to hold anything you can hit (not to mention you will be nigh on unstopppable in pve)

your drains: totally useless against a super fast blaster or ranged AT (by totally i mean they still work, you just cant rely on them so actualyl, very usefil ) these will annihilate anything that decides to melee you for more than a few attacks. to try and be xconstructive, luminos' build is heavily focsued on daamge and speed, his utility is almost non existant and therefore i would laugh at him lots .

your range: witout this you are screwed in pvp until you have burend every BF your opponent has

your melee: without this you are totally screwed against anything that isnt melee

zapp and thunderous blast: these are not part of maxing your DPS, although both are fantastic to have

pools: make sure u can move fast, even when suppressed, and be able to heal as often as possible as reliably as possible

There is a build on the blaster board by me, it is far far from what I would suggest anyone rolled out for a PvE run to 50, and far from what I would suggest you try to PvP with unless you had used it for 50 odd levels, although it does work and it can beat almost anything (TK totally pwns it though as it lacks the 'pure' ranged damage). Feel freee to post any questions about it there, or questions aout this thread and reply here .

and to the original question - Yes, elec/elec is good enough to PvP with

  13. I've reworked the workshop room, it's easy to check which enhancements go where. We now have room for a workbench full time and a second salvage rack.

On the theme of salvage racks, everyone is doing great, please keep up the good work, although please try to add salvage to the rack as your numbers approach 20, you can carry 20 copies of any one item of salvagem after that if you would have got a drop, you get nothing, to save some room in the storage, please use discression when adding items that you are not likely to end up with 20 of. I will post and broadcast in global and SG etc when there is a specific need for certain salvage.

Last night I built an Autonomous Expert System, this is the ubah shiznel in terms of producing control, it will replace our current mainframe, although it does require 2,000,000 prestige to place, so it will be a good while yet til we have any real sort of potential for placing and using defencive items.

PvP team should be up soon, just so you people know. I will need to clear some alts around for this, possibly even my own . So...

    ON THE SUBJECT OF ALTS

Right, things are getting crammed, and first let me tell you my approach to this. there are 2 options as I see it:

    1. Multiple SGs, little prestige earned when alting and when you decide that your alt is a main and should be moved you will be kicking yourself.

    2. Rotate alts as and when they are played, maximising prestige for the SG and allowing us to work towards the goals we all have in terms of base development.

We are currently on system number 2 if you didn't know. atm I would like one main and one alt in the SG, people who have 50s in the SG are more than welcome to leave those 50s there (unless they feel it would be better to move them more like an alt) and have an active alt too. This does unfortunately require someone with invite priveleges to be online when you are swapping (if you alting within the SG, for those who areplaying alts in the SG atm but 'belong' to other SGs this is far less of an issue). Everyone who is ranked Standard-Bearer (3/5) or above has invite permissions, although only Aides (4/5) can kick alts, so please please manage your own alts, it means less work for me and also means you can decide who gets to keep their prestige/date joined count continuous if you want to.

My sincerest apologies that this is the way it is, but as the devs have made an [censored] out of the SG size limits and introduced bases i think it's the most effective way to go. I know when many of you joined ish without looking at the dates in the SG list and I hope you all understand that this is the best way forward. Hopfully the SG size limit will be expanded and we can carry on as we did when we were fewer, although I have to say I am so happy that we are doing well and the family is growing. I'd really like to spend more time with Rafe, Elyagra and Nano-Gamma though as there is much fun to be had I'm sure.

When the PvP alt's come in I will more than likely have to move several of my own alts out although I must practice what I preach, I am no better nor have any more right to take more spaces than any of you guys!

Thanks for reading, and check out the new storage layout, it's just so we can have max storage and still use a bench as we need it.

  17. OK, THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR THOSE COMING IN FROM OUTSIDE THE SG TO READ

Everone in the SG knows the deal etc, although I must point you to this thread (look a few posts into it for my first one). The guidelines are set out here for all the SG members.

While this is going to be an alt thing for the existing members, the new people will maintain their place, rules for current alts are 1 main + 1 alt (more if you have 50s to store). This is purely so that we can rotate alts for the most prestige whilst trying to keep some kind of recognition of the main toon's join date and prestige count. I apologise for this as I realy don't find it ideal, however imo it is far better than the alternative multiple SG method which we can't really afford prestige wise.

If there are any problems with the rules of the SG then newcomers have 2 options.
    1. Propose on this thread that we do this as a separate entity (I for one won't be as I have SG commitments)
    2. Do not take part.

I want this to go well and love all you guys, and hope to make a few new friends out of this, but it's never a good time to have a mishap.

So all in all, this is really my paranoid way of saying "Welcome! Have fun! Stay as long as you like and if you need anything at all just ask!". I will be needing to speak The_Braain online at some point

[/ QUOTE ] TBH i think that without any real defenders rawking the buffs/debuffs an ice tank will be the weaker of the two (ice or inv), although i have played inv and it doesnt excite me too much. with emp, sonic and FF trollers I will hopefully be viable, but this is to be about fun primarily, and of course, far more PvE will happen than PvP. I'm happy that there is a 50 FF def already in the SG although a sonic def would be nice to have around, but I'm not too fussy as I say.

Secondary wise I'm not so up on tanks, I'm going to make my main role to be a meat shield, 3 taunts and 2 fears for sure. I want to go for whatever gives me the bast chance to mez or control people when I do hit them, but with decent recharge etc, so i'll have a look at the sets. I'm leaning towards SS or mace for the melee, but what's wrong with EM? There are some rediculously hard hitters in there iirc , please enlighten me as to its drawbacks before we have to roll.

As for MCX, the build listed is the one he already has at 50, please can we check he is making another???, although we can't and dont want to force anyone into an AT or sets, is this really going to happen?

The lack of kin means we will all need stamina, no questions asked, i feel this is a downside, although kin doesn't have going for it what the others have, its a toss up between a handful of good buffs and 3 extra powers each bar the kin.

no blasters, while it's good that we won;t have the immediate target there, we will also lack some of that upfront ranged damage, but I don't see this being a problem tbh, plenty of 50 blasters in the SG.

All in all no probs, looking forward to it and I Will PM the times to keith as requested.

  21. theres a full list on the thread about my build posted by powernova (although elec fence is a factor of 10 too high), basically elec fence is ok but only DoT, CB and HP are nice single hit drains, TS doesnt drain and neither does LC, LF isnt worth the drain, its less than 5 per tick so 8 odd per tick slotted i dont really feel is worth it slotwise and SG drains 25 in DoT iirc, which is great although it has high damage over time and a good hold duration, so i wouldnt personally enhance it for endmod. PS drains 35 at base which is lovely in pve sometimes, although this is only something like 17.5% in PvP (maybe 25 based on actual xp of it) but it has no -rec, the whole problem with /eelc is that it has no -rec at all, same as all the elec brute powers .

and to mesmer, although it isnt working as anyone with common sense would expect, i think the interrupt thing is WAI :/

    Plight
  22. IntRed reduces the time neded to be stationary so much that you can snipe at range and be in melee range by the time the snipe goes off was the original point i believe, although personally I would expect the interruptable powers to act more like you suggest they are, coding issue i presume :s

and I barely ever get knocked back by energy blasts with acro on, nor force bubblers iirc.
