Quote:Yes.But is it a straight-forward non-frustrating set? Will it feel smashy and get me in the groove of fury generation? This would be my first brute, mind.
Yes.
I'm going to describe why I don't like EM anymore. Then I'm going to describe why those two answers are yes anyway.
EM used to be the king of single target damage output because energy transfer had a one second animation and total focus was a guaranteed mez on bosses. Now ET has a near three second animation and TF was lowered to mag 3 on its stun.
For me, these two changes trashed the set. But it's because of the memory and the comparison to the old days more than anything else.
EM still has very good single target damage. You can still stack the stuns for considerable mitigation against a target or two. It still looks cool.
Between energy punch, barrage and bonesmasher you'll have the basis for solid fury generation and you will get the happy-smash feeling you seem to want. Yes, whirling hands is a weak and small pbaoe, but it sounds like you're more concerned with how the set feels and looks than attempting to make some farming monster. If that's the case, go for it. I don't think that you'll be disappointed.
As for willpower versus invulnerability? Ask yourself which is more important: Being able to run non-stop or being able to handle huge alpha strikes. WP is the energizer bunny set. Invul is the "yea, I can take that hit" set. -
Quote:Claws: All except strike and confront (swipe has a single acc, no other slots)You clearly don't understand... Im not asking advice on my build... im asking for A build. Im looking for a build, or ideas, of what people are taking on their claws/sr once i19 comes around
SR: All except elude
Fighting: Kick (throwaway,) tough, weave
Leadershsip: maneuvers, assault
Flight: Fly
Speed: Hasten
APP-Body: conserve power, physical perfection
Over 1900 HP, 27-28HP/sec regen, attack chain is followup, focus, slash, pause for single target and for aoe, followup, spin, eviscerate -

Quote:I never claimed that I'd bother to do so. Once I've decided someone is is a waste of space I'll continue to treat them as such until they prove to me that my opinion is no longer valid. You're the only one pretending to be something you're not in this discussion just as you pretended to be innocent in the other thread. Please continue stacking failure upon failure. It's amusing.
You, however, seem unable to do that.
BC, DM/Inv with darkest night will be considerably solid. The tohit debuffs stack on invincibility, the damage debuff from DN is great for everyone, Siphon Life deals great damage these days on top of being a solid self-heal to keep you going between Dull Pain cycles. It'll rock. -
Having not played Invul past 30 or so, I wouldn't know if DM/Inv would be better than DM/WP or not. My assumption would be that one will shine over the other depending on the situation.
Yes, my DM/WP has and uses Darkest Night on every spawn. I don't have Dark Consumption as Stamina+QR + 2 Perf Shifter CF+Ends handle my endurance needs without issue. I also have tough and weave. -
Quote:What you did was waste hard drive space in an attempt to goad me into a BS argument. And I was simply correcting you on a misconception that I didn't think should be spread around the boards as a "fact." Your definition was off, I corrected that, and simply gave a little more insight and detail on the subject, to help those who may have still had questions as to what an "opinion" or "fact" really was. I elaborated on theory some as well.
Yes, the statement "I like chocolate ice cream" is a statement. It is also an opinion by virtue of the fact that the statement would not exist without the opinions behind the statement: chocolate is the best flavor for ice cream and ice cream is good to eat.
As I said, it was a weak attempt to drag me into an argument of semantics. Those with functional levels of intelligence understood that. -
Quote:Good thing that I found other reasons why this change shouldn't happen. If that's all there was to it, I'd be fighting against leaving it as is as much as I harp on Khels not getting access to flight/tp. That actually Was put into place for nothing but idiot proofing.
And then you're asking which one I prefer? I prefer the one that is idiot-proof, thankyouverymuch. -
Quote:Sure you can. Make sure you never take any passive or toggle with a taunt aura and never attack anything. There ya go, tauntless tank.To expand on this (and watch assumptions roll in,) I'm going to make a statement here:
You cannot make a tauntless tank (or brute.)
Am I dictating a playstyle (or even judging one,) or stating an assumption the devs can make within the powersets/ATs because they designed it in? (Which does, of course, dictate certain things about playstyle.) -
Quote:To be fair to the developers, and prior to his being let go, BAB had come very close to removing redraw in combat completely but ran into some kind of heavy roadblock. It all makes me wonder why it's even still in the game. Who thinks redraw is enhancing the "experience" aside from some obstinate developer glowering in the glow of a monitor in a dark computer lab somewhere?
So I know of at least two devs that backed the concept of completely removing redraw. -
Quote:Can we do so, please, by making +resistance as common in setIO buffs as +defense?
Let's get more on topic with pure resistance sets that need some extra love -
Quote:Not blastery looking? Agreed.I'm gonna have to disagree with this whole Claws thing, on two principles.
First, it's not blastery-looking at all.
Second, won't the redraw make any ranged attack chain really stiff and cumbersome?
Don't get me wrong, I love claws and have claws characters (okay, just one), but it doesn't seem to fit the bill in this case.
Redraw being detrimental numerically? We'd have to do a complete attack chain analysis to find out if, say, claws+PPP is less than km+PPP because of claws redraw. However, back when I thought that scrappers would get brute PPP, I looked at what adding gloom to a claws attack chain would do considering how awesome gloom is, but the numbers didn't back up the hope when claws' redraw animation time was added to the chain.
Is redraw clunky, ugly and annoying apart from the numerical analysis, I would most assuredly agree 100%.
I truly believe the OP would be happier with a VEAT than a knee-capped brute. -
Quote:I don't disagree at all. I would prefer to spend that 10 bucks elsewhere and have the chance in game to get what I want. But I acknowledge that NCSoft/Paragon Studios using boosters as a way to get periodic injections of cash makes good business sense Because of people like you and me.I know that's the way it is in other games. Invest time, or invest money. Personally, I find this solution equitable. And either way, an MMO is making money through longer sub times or through micro-trans. But as S_S pointed out, double-dipping the player base is too tempting for a publisher.
Personally, I'd play longer and more often if it meant I could get those costume bits without having to shill out $10 for every booster. But that's just how I roll. Others could certainly have the option to bypass and just pay for the items. Heck, if they made a booster for all the Vanguard and Roman stuff, I'd be fine with that, because you can either earn it in-game or pay extra for it. -
Back on topic, if you're not set on going with a brute that sticks to range and want a ranged "blaster" with solid mitigation, whatever everyone else has stated about VEATs is true. I've got a hunstman build (no mace, no spiderlegs) SoA at 40, nothing but basic IOs and that's exactly what she plays like. Shoot 'em up, rarely get hit, mez protection, rarely dies. EDIT: I should note, VEATs are slow, some might say painful, to solo up until 24, but it ramps up nicely after that.

DM, the question being studied was "How can anyone's OPINION be WRONG?"
I explained how. I see no reason to take the bait on your semantics based argument. -
Quote:
If you disagree with something someone has to say, fine, show your evidence and numbers to prove that your way is right and to back your case. There is no need to belittle or talk condescendingly to someone in order to disagree and prove your side. If the person you responded to decides to go off on you then at that point feel free to be rude, condescending, or just plain mean. It's that simple. Just because this is an online message forum does not mean that you can't practice some sort of civility. Its like a "road-rage" mentality around here: just because I'm not standing in front of you, I'm 10 feet tall and can be a ******, I don't need to be civil or even humane at all...I think that anyone can be better than that. Maybe even you. Quote:Who are you again? And why are you fanning fires? Maybe you should just sit back and be quiet, the discussion is over. I had an opinion on something. BillZ wanted to to make it a numbers issue. That's fine, if he has numbers to back it thats awesome, do it. It simply sheds light onto certain subjects and allows others to draw their own conclusions based on those numbers and opinions combined. I just felt that he was being a bit touchy about it so I was informing him to relax some, but it really doesn't bother me, we have alot of people who get touchy here from time-to-time (myself included).
What you're doing here, that is whats really silly, as you're not even involved in our discussion, you're simply adding your 2 cents worth of nothing and futher derailing a thread. BillZ being touchy doesn't bother me at all since he has a valid argument with valid numbers, but what does bother me is people such as yourself. The input on your last post and its contribution to this thread had no useful impact whatsoever, so why add it? Other than to troll, fan fires, and completely derail a thread what's the purpose? You have none. So no need to add your 2 cents.Quote:BillZ, we all realize that you are practically married to Claws.
Nobody is buying your "I'm the innocent here" BS. Well, accept L3gend, apparently. -
I'm of the mind that nobody deserves anything but what they pay for.
I pay 16somethin a month for access to this game. I get access 98% of the time I attempt to log in. 2% of the time maintenance happens to get in the way.
Do I deserve costumes for that 16 bucks a month? Yup. The ones that are in the game.
Do I deserve costumes that get unlocked by doing X if I don't do X? Nope. I didn't "pay" by putting in the time to get it.
Do I deserve cool powers? Yup. The ones that are in the game.
Do I deserve the 30something vet power if I've only played 2 months? No. I didn't "pay" enough over time to get it.
Do I deserve the Valkyrie costume set even though I didn't buy the Mac pack? No. I didn't pay for it.
You get what you pay for. This is a business. If you don't wish to pay for something they offer, don't buy it. If you want it, buy it. If you can't buy it and you have to do X to get it, either do X or accept that you don't really want it.
For the love of Satan, people REALLY (and this goes triple when dealing with real life) need to dump their special snowflake idiocy and quit thinking that life is going to be handed to you on a silver platter.
Unless of course, it does get handed to you on a silver platter because you were born into vast wealth. -
Quote:I see this way too much lately.
How can anyone's OPINION be WRONG?
It's very simple.
Actual opinion: I like chocolate ice cream. <--- This can not be shown to be wrong or right. It is a true opinion.
Statement being portrayed as an opinion: Elec Aura is weaker than Energy Aura. <--- This can be proven false by slotting every power to its ED cap, firing off clicks as they recharge, calculating incoming damage and how it is affected by the set's mitigation, determining which set dies first. If Elec dies first, statement is true. If Energy dies first, statement is false.
Another example:
Opinion: I like Guinness. I think it's the best drink in the world. <--- Please note how this can not be argued against. A different opinion can be provided but the two do not magically make the other one incorrect.
Statement made portrayed as an opinion: The earth is 6000 years old. <--- This statement has been proven false utilizing a great many different scientific disciplines.
So... when can an opinion be wrong? When it isn't an opinion. People should not assign the term "opinion" to their incorrect beliefs. -

Your opinion shouldn't be shared when you couple it with ignorance. Had you made statements that your *opinion* was completely based on *feeling* then I wouldn't have had to come in and correct your false beliefs.

I'm not happy at a lack of choice, ZM. I am, however, happy to slap down silly requests for no other reason but that I can.
Oddly enough, it even amuses me when my silly requests are slapped down by other people.
At least I'm fair that way. -

Quote:Shockwave hits up to 10 enemies in a 90degree cone for 47.13 damage every 14.4 seconds with a cast time of 1 second.
For what you want, I don't find Claws as a serious contender at all tbh...
Repulsing Torrent hits (unknown, will assume 10) enemies in a 45degree cone for 33.4 damage every 12 seconds with a cast time of 2 seconds.
Power siphon only works with hits. If you set it off and then hit repulsing torrent, guess what isn't buffed? But we'll say you fired off focused burst first and give repulsing torrent a 25% buff.
Each will be slotted 1acc/1end-red/1rec-red/3dam and we'll use 150% damage buff from fury.
Shockwave Max Damage: (47.13 * 1+1.5+.95) * 10 = 1626 every 10.8 seconds. 150.6 DPS
Repulsing Torrent Max Damage: (33.4 * 1+.25+1.5+.95) * 10 = 1236 damage every 9 seconds. 137.3 DPS
Want me to do a comparison for claws/focus versus km/focused burst? Ok.
Focus: 63 in 1.17 seconds, 53.85 DPA
FB: 68.4 in 2 seconds, 34.2 DPA
Claws not a contender? Yea, whatever. Edit: And yes, the enemy resistance thing is overrated as well. -
Yes, DM/SD wins.
When you are permanently saturating both Soul Drain and AAO. As soon as you lose the fodder, DM/SD's place in the DPS hierarchy changes.
Once you're down to nothing but you and the AV/Pylon/whatever, I rather doubt that DM/SD will retain anything near its topdog status.
