I'm failing to figure out how something that can possess other individuals and communicate its desires isn't sentient.

Do you remember the posts about those that would never touch the market again because of the market merge "forcing" them to accept goods from evilbadhorrible villains?

Yes, Emberly, the RPers are often silly.

    Ironik,

None of those people are going to go toe to toe with a demon. None of them are natural origin superheroes.

But that's the point. None of those people are slotting enhancements. None of them are crafting temp powers. None of them are ignoring game mechanics to suit their whim.

So why can't you ignore the story behind the incarnate buffs in the same what you're ignoring the buffs from inherent powers?

I'm attempting to determine why one is acceptable to you but another is not.

In Ramiel's arc, you have some kind of sentient power source talking to you. For all we know it's Jesus or Buddha or a super intelligent shade of the color blue. You don't drink from the Well. It's gone. That gives folks an out.

Even that fact, however, is meaningless. If you're going to ignore the mechanics of X to suit your purposes, why not Y?

A regular guy getting a shot of magic? He becomes magic, period.

Therefore, some of my characters will have to completely ignore Incarnate stuff, just as they ignore the Origin of Power stuff, the Power Proliferation nonsense and the backstories behind the Patron Power Pools of CoV.
It doesn't really matter if it works for you or not. As a natural character, you've accepted that you can craft items that allow you to do things that natural humans can not accomplish.

You can't jump over a bus. You can't run at 40 miles per hour. You're already tossing out your "natural" origin by creating a character in I-19 thanks to the inherent fitness pool.

One's ORIGIN does not change by adding the Perf Shifter Chance for +End. One's ORIGIN does not change by picking up the Ultimate Nullifier and using it to scare off Galactus. One's ORIGIN does not change by adding an influx of power from the Well of the Furies.

If you wish to avoid the incarnate abilities based on the backstory of your character, so be it, but don't try to pretend that he shouldn't because it will change his origin.

Our origins mean nothing in relation to the incarnate abilities.

My main will remain the magic devil that he is, but he'll be that plus having a channel to the Well of the Furies after unlocking the alpha slot.

A normal with a gun will still be a normal with a gun, but he'll be that plus having a channel to the Well of the Furies after unlocking the alpha slot.

Our origins don't change when we slot inventions, why should they change when we slot incarnate abilities?
  8. Brutes play more like scrappers than tanks. On teams they *can* tank, but I've never built any of mine for that.

You are correct that Rage+Fury+AAO will allow for silly damage output. Have all that pushing on foot stomp and dark obliteration from soul mastery and then crank up your mitigation with darkest night, it'll be nice.
  9. I got sig lined! Woot! Bye, PB.
  10. If you have less than 2GB RAM, that would be the first thing I'd fix.

Same here. I wanted the new auras but they aren't worth 10 bucks to me. And I'll spend 10 bucks on two lattes in a day.

I'm not angry at NCSoft or anything like that, I understand wanting to make a buck, but they'll have to do better than that to get MY buck. For the record, I do have all of the origin packs and the ninja pack.

    Life Drain

Side note: Back when DM's SL was altered, I asked Castle if the Warshade clone of it, Essence Drain, was also going to be altered considering the WS's rather anemic single target damage. "No" was the answer.

So while my dark/rad corruptor would absolutely love life drain to get a damage buff, especially considering that it's part of her attack chain, I don't think that using DM-SL as a reasoning tool is going to go very far.
  16. Apparently the Well of the Furies makes you incredibly dumb. We should all avoid the incarnate system at all costs!

You average player, even after years, will never get these rewards for even one of their toons. That is not attractive to your average gamer. That is my postulate. If it is not attractive to your average consumer, it will fail. That is my conclusion.
The average player doesn't solo AVs. The average player doesn't complete the RWZ challenge. The average player does average things and needs an average build to do them. The vast majority of my characters use SOs because the vast majority of my characters are still under level 32. I tend to delete them in the 30s to make way for new alts. Supposedly the average player doesn't even read the forums.

You want the items that average players don't need. You wish to rise above average. You wish these things but refuse to put forth the effort to do it. Tough ****.

If you do not wish to BE average, you must stop acting average. You will not buy that Lamborghini while being paid minimum wage.

I ask again. How does this reward system benefit the "city of" franchise? What makes it fun to the casual gamer plunking down a monthly fee for this?
I answered your question. You obviously chose to ignore the entire post. That's no one's fault but your own.

And yeah, Inherent fitness will help a lot. But I plan on making as many of the old junk 'not-arcs' (they have no plot, no link, no fun) shiny again, and then pushing for them or similar stuff to be put in to replace the old crap. No one wants crap in a game, or shouldnt at any rate.
Were it a two years ago, I'd offer to help. However, I've apparently entered the "curmudgeon" phase of my online presence around here.

Because the current system appeals to a very wide variety of players.

It appeals to the roleplayers with the social areas, emotes and costume generator.

It appeals to the comic lover that wants nothing more than to see his creation running around and doesn't care at all for min-maxing.

It appeals to the market freaks that make more inf offline than that do during play sessions.

It even appeals to freaks like me that do NO marketing but has ONE character that I care about tweaking where all the others are lucky if they get a steadfast +def unique slotted with lvl 40 basic IOs in the rest of the build.

The system works. You think I enjoyed dumping 2 billion inf for that +damres pvp IO? I didn't. I was ambivalent toward it. I wanted it for my build, I did what was necessary to get it, and now that I have it, I don't have to do any of the things I did to get it ever again. Why did I do such a thing? Because I agree that I should have to earn the things I want.

    What is better?

    1) A moderately priced -but efficiently built- toon with IO sets, some frankenslotting, all the power-yielding accolades, some vet rewards, played by a savvy, intelligent player.

    2) A toon completely slotted with the most expensive purples and PvPIOs.
Can I have #3? A character min/maxed as much as possible, using purples and PvP IOs where useful with standard sets in the rest of the build, designed specifically around the guidelines created for that character and played by an intelligent and skilled player?
