  1. DA, I honestly don't know. I don't have a Vista rig at all. If the CCC hasn't been altered to much for Vista, the SmartGART section should be in the same list as Display Settings and 3D Settings. Make sure that you're viewing the CCC in Advanced Mode.
  2. Go into the Catalyst Control Center Advanced View.

Find the SmartGART section. You should see AGP Fast Writes there.

there are some things still being tackled, but being a CoH player myself, I can tell you that there have been a lot of improvements over time

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm curious as to these improvements you speak of. While there may have been performance ups and downs over time, I've come across no functional changes that have resolved any of the known issues nor have I ever seen any of them listed in the patch notes for the new Catalyst packages over the past near four years.

Believe me, I'm not saying things are perfect. But I've been playing the game since it launched too, and I know a long time ago we had some issues with shadows that have since been corrected, as an example. But as you can see from some of my posts, we do have some improvements to make and are trying to tackle this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Were you an ATI employee prior to the AMD buyout?

I must admit some level of curiosity at the fact that you've been playing since launch but seem unaware of the extent and depth of the ATI issues that have plagued this game since launch.

In any case, thanks for punching that thread through the channels.

Back when I was more interested in the fight, I sent those same findings through the feedback channels at ATI, then again after the AMD merger, and constantly pushed the info here for the Cryptic team prior to the NCNC conversion.

I believe I gave up some time before Cryptic left the picture.

It will be nice to see if any of this leads to better days for ATI users. It wasn't until the somewhat recent purchase of an Nvidia G92-8800GTS that I had used anything except ATI video cards since 3DFX went under way back when.

    Would that increase performance, though?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Every bit of logic in my head screams no... but I'd try it anyway.

    [ QUOTE ]
you included a link to a BIOS tweaking guide. Is it 100% completely and entirely safe to use the tweaks mentioned there on my motherboard?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope. It's never safe to do any tweaking. But it's also the only way to get it done. However, I doubt there's much in the BIOS that will help you, so if you're not comfortable in there, don't bother.

Am I 100% sure? Before upgrading to the 8800GTS, I was running an ATI X1950XTX on my DualCore 2.4GHz proc overclocked to 2.7. For the vast majority of the time, I was capped at 60FPS.

HOWEVER, due to the way this game is coded, that is NEVER a certainty. Get teamed up with the wrong powersets firing off in the right combination and your FPS can plummet. Hit the right spot in Cap D villain side and you'll be slammed by a 50% hit no matter how good your rig is.

Could your processor be your current bottleneck? Absolutely. The 3GHz-HT P4 is what I have in my workstation running with an ATI X800XT and I'll often be stuck around 30FPS when I've got things cranked.

For tweaking your current rig, hit the items that may be cranking your processor load. Lower World Detail down to 75% instead of 100%. Try 50%. Try running at only 2X FSAA and 4X Anisotropic Filtering.

To answer the barely voiced question: Did I get a big performance boost going from the 3GHz-HT to the 2.4GHz C2D? Yea, it was noticeable.

I'll be getting my hands on a quadcore 3GHz this weekend for testing purposes. We'll see how hard I can hammer that.

    Monitor's Max Resolution: 1280,1024

    [/ QUOTE ]

Have you tried bumping your windows and in game resolutions to 1280X1024?

I'm honestly not seeing anything in cohhelper's output that's jumping out at me as wrong. You might try slapping audio into compatibility mode.
  7. If you don't have screen tearing turning left and right without those items enabled, then keep them off.
  8. At 1024X768, that card should be completely capped out at your refresh rate IF the rest of the system can keep up. (EDIT: If you using Vertical Sync. If not, it should be showing MUCH higher FPS values than you state.)

If you have no need of vert sync, disable it and triple buffering in the CCC.

Your P4 3GHz processor... is it Hyperthreaded and have you enabled Hyperthreading in the BIOS?

I've got an ancient xp performance guide that might give you some ideas on cleaning things up.
  9. Ask Agent Ruby: Hi there. By chance has a representative of AMD/ATI read this thread in the tech forum which details all the long standing incompatibilities between CoH/V and ATI's drivers?

Followup: What course of action are AMD and NCNC taking in order to make this particular gaming experience less of a problematic hassle for those that currently own ATI video cards?
  10. Gratz on that piece, Trizz. NICE style from Uziel.

How do you get all this information all the time? Do you do some illegitimate things and should be banned? You are very suspicious and I have never trusted you. Clear your name, now, woman!

I fail to see why the devs would let you into the closed beta.....

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm sorry. I should be punished. Everyone, I have stolen from my developers. Please, purge me. I'm ashamed of myself. I should be arrested. I should be purged. I should be flogged. I shouldn't walk among good people. I'm a swine, a wretch; I don't deserve to live like others.

  13. Until I hear otherwise, I believe absolutely nothing has changed and the settings at the start of the thread are still the way to go:

FSAA and AF managed by the CCC and disabled in game.
    Water Low or Off.
Bloom, Depth of Field, Desaturation Effects Off.

Well that's gonna change a few builds I was working on.

Just so no one misunderstands, this is a LOOSER rule than the classic Rule of Five. Any build that'd be valid using the old Rule of Five is still valid, it's just that this adds more options.

Yup... means I need to add more +recharge sets.

Is the issue with the enhancement screen and the mouse cursor (those of you have have to deal with this problem know exactly what I'm talking about) an issue that might be able to be fixed by the NCSoft team, or is it in ATI's ballpark? Kind of annoying, particularly when I am trying to respec a high-level character and have all those IO's to shuttle around.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unknown. Considering that the issue didn't appear until the X1*** series cards, (and still doesn't exists on cards prior to that series,) I'd lean toward placing the blame on AMD/ATI.
