I saw it in the info of someone (can't remember who) and thought it was a good idea

    [/ QUOTE ]

It was me! I put that in Brit's bio when I first started going to Pocket D. Thought it sounded less formal than roleplayer, and I think it helped make him seem a little more approachable to anyone who read his bio. The main reason I put it in though was I thought it gave the impression I was a game-player who was interested in RP, and those who'd seen it would be a little more forgiving and helpful with my RP. Sure enough it worked and I found several people volunteering tips, and pointers.

In ten days (on the date of this post)
    So, Sunday next

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Yep the 27th!

As a faithful, if somewhat lazy, agent of EVIL you can be assured Big Game will be in attendence. Im cleaning off his running shoes now ready for that potentially lethal 30yd dash. (unless I actually level Game by then in which case he will just strut up in all his Tiger Striped glory )
  3. Part of the reason I have spent less time in Ds of late is due to increased annoyances, and I think im more tolerant than most being as the bulk of my time on CoX I have been a non-roleplayer.

For me its not so much the place thats important, but the people I roleplay with. The problem is I tend to do a lot of Hero/Villain roleplay and bar using Hero/Villain alternatives of characters, Ds is the only place I can do that.(Yes I realise technically I could roleplay in a PVP zone, but having a Spines/Regen Scrapper/Stalker gank you while doing it aint much fun)

I really hope Pocket D doesn't end up being abandoned due to tool aggravation, as I have made some great friends, and had many good times there.

As some people may know, Tracey Lionheart has somehow recieved superpowers. She's currently radiating with energy signatures quite similar to Britanic's *cough*

    [/ QUOTE ]

You really need to get that cough sorted out, suspicious types might start thinking there is, or has been something going on there!

I am sad to see the show is taking a seasonal break. I hope it does return in the future.
  5. I was very pleased t be involved with this. I only wish i had more time to have done more to help support the plot further. I have however just posted my latest IC story piece which acts a a sort of a continuity re-cap for Britanic, as well as an epilogue to the C-Dyne affair.

Once again Doc you maybe nutty but but also inspiring.

    "I dont believe it!"

    "What?"

"Over there. Big Game is leaving the club with that winged girl Raven."

"Raven? Oh you mean that Soul of the Shard."

    "Yeah her."

    "So what?"

"He has been leaving with her every night this week. Maybe the sleazeball hunter ain't collecting trophies anymore, and he's found someone to finally settle down with."

"Haa, ha, ha haa, ha! Stop it Sandra you're gonna make me wet myself. Game is probably having a lazy week and can't be bothered to try it on with anyone else. Bet you in couple of days time he will be back to his old self sniffing around anything and everything in a short skirt again."

"Rumour has it that one of Danny Mozzotta's boys, who narrowly escaped being busted by mutie hero Britanic, says the reason the heroes are getting the drop on the C-Dyne shipments is because Dr.Mechano has been mouthing off about them in that Pocket D."

"You're kidding. I thought Mechano was supposed to be some sort of egghead. Surely he isn't stupid enough to forget heroes hang out in that place too?"

"Yeah, but didn't he recently accidently turn himself into a Supa-Troll?"

"Yeah but I heard he sorted that out."

"I know what that Game is like. I bet watching the movie was the last thing on his mind....Hey what about that Janine, how is she taking it? You remember how steamed she was when she caught Game flirting with that Feme Feline last time. She nearly ripped his throat out."

"How do you think she is taking it? She doesn't even know yet! It should be one hell of a fireworks show when she does find out though..."

  10. Britanic has a walking toaster given to him by the Doc as an engagement present. It currently sits unopened in the bottom of a shoe cupboard, where it will probably remain.

I still can't believe that Doc Mechano has taken what was one of Brit's derogatory names for MM bots, and turned it into a product.

  13. COP walked away from PPD headquarters giving Blue Steel a nonchalant salute as he passed him.

Just then a Boy Scout ran up to him.

"'Scuse me sir can I get you to look at this petition and maybe sign it please."

"Sure kid let me take a look."

COP had heard about the Heroes for People thing even while he was a captive of the psychotic Partisan. Partisan took great joy in keeping COP appraised of things in the outside world, and would often bring in newspapers and things to show him. COP had also realised that had Partisan not been so busy causing havoc in the Row he would of no doubt found some way to turn Heroes for People to his own nefarious ends.

Things were different now. The threat of Partisan was for the moment neutralised, and the Petition had been relaunched as Heroes among People in an effort to repair some of the damage caused by the last petition. The new version, while a nice idea and could work, would no doubt end up gathering dust on a desk in City Hall. Still the democratic process was still important so COP signed anyway.

"Here you go kid, now run along and stay out of trouble"...

Thank you for reading this, I hope you make of this plot all the fun you can.

[/ QUOTE ]As said by Pious.

Why do you think he made that statement? I can see why a lot of people can see the need to have legal advice on standby before posting anything these days.

Starting a thread to ask who isn't going to participate in something but not actually wanting to know why, could have just as easily been accomplished by literally seeing who doesn't respond. Im no psychologist but I would say the thread was deliberately started to solicit discussion.

However discussion is good. It was taking onboard of some of the criticisms of Heroes for People that led to my own IC damage control post with Vigilante Storm. That post was taken aboard by several others and now kind of sits at the core of Heroes among People.

Rather than over criticise and over analyse, how about using role play experience to help, advise, and encourage creativity!
  17. Everybody is entitled to their opinion and rightfully so. However I think some of the negative reaction to this idea is a bit over the top.

    [ QUOTE ]
Since you quoted my OP, you will have noted that I have OOC objections. They are, however, entirely based on the roleplay consequences of people trying to run a plot which totally alters the political climate (and even changes the architecture)

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Heroes for/among People is an idea or a suggestion to the people of Paragon and City Hall. Just as in real life petitions can and often are ignored. The reality is that it isnt ever likely to be implemented in game. Im wondering if a lot of the objections stem from people assuming that at the end someone is going to say yay its a big success, City Hall caved in we got our garden, and our holiday. If this was to happen then I can understand the concern.

I think you will find this idea is more about the journey rather than the end result. If you go back to the Heroes for People thread check out the level of creativity spawned from individual character responses to the idea. Something which you Ravenswing kick started with your own post. It didn't matter if it was a yes or a no, the thread highlighted some of the best character writing on these forums.

Anyway I think it is entirely feasable to ignore this idea. If some bod came up to me in the street to sign a petition, and im not interested they get a simple no thank you, and I forget about it. I dont know how many petitions I have been asked to sign over the years, but I can tell you a lot of them are never successful, including the really good ones.

If people wish to ignore and not get involved that is fine, just as if you wish to involve yourself you can too. Everybody can make their own choice. I do not feel anybody is being railroaded into this unless they allow themselves to be.

One last thing why is it every discussion is automatcally assumed to devolve into a flame war.(aww nuts did I just start a flame war saying that )

  19. The Boyscout was standing in the City Hall waiting for anybody to walk by.

Just then a man dressed in a heavy black trench coat, black Fedora, and white mask walked out of the M.A.G.I. offices. The boyscout ran over to the man...

"Excuse me, excuse me sir, can I have a mo...Hhhum"

The boyscout was startled as the man turned to face him. The white mask was styled skull like, on his chest was a fading crescent moon, and inside the coat a large sword could be seen.

"Whats up son?" came a surprisingly soft voice.

"Um would you sign this petition please?" the boy asked nervously.

"Heroes for People, no thanks kid."

"No wait sir its different, seems the organisers realised the original was flawed, so they got some proper support, and re-drafted it. It's now called Heroes Among People, Here read..."

The mysterious man took the petition and read through it. "hmm, that seems much better. What do you reckon boys?"

The boyscout looked around utterly confused there was nobody else in sight The mysterious man made several gestures as if he was in conversation with himself, and then...

"Who cares what you think anyway you're an evil self centered Demon, Everybody else is in agreement though, right?"

The man made a few nodding gestures before taking the boyscout's pen and signing the petition.

The strange man left the boyscout thinking...

    3. Anyone bothering to research the matter can easily discover that White did ask for help from two other heroes prior to writing the petition, particularly in running it past PR and legal experts. This was via public IC roleplay in Pocket D.

Those two characters (Britanic and Crimson Archer) have both made IC posts elsewhere mentioning this, which I why I repeat it here. After 2 days had passed without either character getting back to her about it, well she didn't want to press them on something they were volunteering to do, but Suzi doesn't know how much time she has. All of the Hyperion Watchmen are believed to be under threat of random death due to the powers they gained being unstable, and able to kill the possessor.

So yes, impulsive, rash, and not thought through. Yes, passionate rather than logical.

The original conversation ended with Crimson Archer offering to get his cousin (a lawyer) to draft up the petition (originally White Vampyr's idea), but White was obvious so empassioned by her idea that she couldn't wait, leading to the document as read.

    [ QUOTE ]
"Brit!, Don Radley, Paragon Inquirer. Come on big man you aint just gonna fob us off with that. Come on buddy give us something quote-worthy."

The Inquirer was one of the papers that had done the most damage with the whole Heroes for People thing. Anger flashed across Britanic's face. He knew he shouldn't do it and no doubt he will hear about it for many a day to come but he had no patience for the guttersnipes at the moment.

"You want something quote-worthy, quote this..."

    "Kiss my flag flying....PWAAARP!!!"

Though the words were drowned out by the horn of a passing car everybody knew what he was about to say. Besides the two fingered gesture which only needed one in America said it all anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually Brits reaction to the Inquirer reporter(Even if the guy hadn't wrote it himself) was due to said article. (But I suppose Inquirer reporters get that all the time anyway. )

    [ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, since Brit and Rachel have now heavily identified themselves with the petition in front of the press and (I think) TV cameras, we could also assume that signed petition forms are likely to start being handed to them by gushing fans. (I see about five dozen giggling girls gathered around Brit while Rachel looks on with a cheesy grin on her face, but I'm only working on the personalities portayed in the micro-story.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

You are spot on Ravenswing. Rachel came to Brit with the compromise idea and thought he could fix things. Suzi left Brit to ensure he doesnt get dragged into the mess, so he figures if he gets involved now he can try some damage control, show Suzi he is involved so she need not protect him through her absence, and make up for his own original disinterest which could of prevented the conflict in the first place.

He is hoping that the innocence of Rachel will help convey Suzi's original sentiment and defuse the entire situation.

Though Brit has put himself in the limelight with this, he has made some effort to downplay his part to some degree.

Wearing a suit rather than costume at the conference for example. Anyone who as ever spoken to Brit about his costumes will know that they are intentionally flashy to draw enemy attacks. the wearing of the suit at the conference is a form of symbolic camoflage.

There is a hell of a lot more i can comment on but for the moment il leave it at that.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
(and to be fair, Britanics Tempest Virus story as well)

    [/ QUOTE ]

To be fair the Tempest Virus thing came from a Silent Tempest and EVIL plot, I just used it as a spring board and kept is running through my "Riot in the Row" series. It was a great idea that just screamed to be built on.

The Heroes for People debate is another such idea I never planned to involve Britanic other than a signature. However due to the impact it has had on his personal life, via Suzi, his own guilt, and his good friend Rachel's desire to put things right. He feels compelled to try some damage control.

Its not just my own character affected either, almost everybody has an opinion, and the opportunities for other stories to be driven by this are vast.
  24. {14/03/07, Mid Morning, The conference room, Sentinel Tower, Founders Falls.}

Britanic was preparing himself for the news conference he called about the Heroes for People petition. With him was Rachel aka Vigilante Storm of the Militia. In what must of been a comical scene, the scruffy street girl was helping Britanic smarten himself up by straightening his tie and brushing bits of lint off his tailored suit.

When Suzi and some of the others first started to discuss the petition, Britanic had to admit the idea had a lot of merit. The way Britanic understood the sentiment behind the petition was...”You people recognise and appreciate what we in the hero community do for you and we can see that in the glorious monuments you erect in our honour, how about now you recognise and reward those everyday heroes among you. Instead of building those statues of heroes build some for Doctors, Fire Fighters, Teachers, etc. Treating the sick, fighting fires, educating our children can have as much merit and be as inspiring as fighting crime on the streets.

As far as Britanic was concerned it was all good, it was nice...it well just didn’t really interest him that much. Britanic had convinced himself that Suzi and the others would get all this thing organised and then get one of the better profiled heroes among them to spearhead the movement. Suzi had been a virtual recluse for the last year it didn’t even dawn on him that she might get noticed. Perhaps if Britanic had taken a little more interest what was going on he could of intervened before any of the conflict blew up.

Fact of the matter is after analysing things for himself after Suzi disappeared Britanic blamed himself for the current conflict. Britanic remembered Suzi asking him to see if he could get one of his lawyers to look at the petition beforehand, he had forgot. Had he been interested enough in Suzi’s cause he would of got that lawyer to check the document and chances are the flaws would of been caught before hitting the streets. Problem was Britanic was so self absorbed with his love life, business, and events in the Row. That when Suzi really could of done with his help he wasn’t really there for her.

Even after he had found out more about the petition and started to have misgivings he allowed his happiness with Suzi distract him. The day he actually signed the petition he realised he hadn’t even read it, it was important to Suzi so he went along with it. Even when he collected some of the signatures he still hadn’t read the document. It wasn’t until Suzi actually went missing he took the time to read the petition. Britanic had various opportunities to prevent the arguments , the bad feeling, the resentment, and Suzi leaving, but due to his own selfishness he had probably caused more damage than any supervillain could.

Britanic had felt wretched, but with Rachel’s help perhaps he could gain some sort of redemption, defuse some of the anger, and get Suzi to come home.

“Ok Chesty you look great. Get out d’ere an’ make Suzi proud.”

Britanic looked down at Rachel and smiled giving no hint of his own inner turmoil over the situation. He then stepped up to the podium to address the press.

“Ladies and gentleman, I would first like to thank you all for attending here at Sentinel Tower today. As you are all aware my name is Eric Mitchell also known as Britanic a registered hero in this city. Im sure by now that you are also aware I am romantically involved with Suzi White also known as White Vampyr one of the driving figures and author of the Heroes for People petition. “

“Since the petition has hit the streets of Paragon there has been controversy over the actual wording of the document, and some feel that it is nothing more than anti-hero propaganda. My purpose here today is to try defuse some of the anger aimed at the petition and its organisers, as well as try to communicate to everyone the sentiment behind the document and show there has been a tragic misunderstanding.”

“Though I was not one of the organisers of the Heroes for People movement I was privy, through my association with Suzi, to much of the original thought process. However I am ashamed to admit that I was so self absorbed with issues of my own that I did not offer the support asked from myself that could of prevented the flawed execution of what was a good idea.”

“Suzi is a singer, a songwriter, and new to the hero community. She wrote the petition from the viewpoint of her own experience, from passion rather than her head. I know that Suzi would never intentionally set out to upset the very community that she is now a part of, and that any offense given is purely accidental.”

“However im a realistic man and I am perhaps too close to Suzi to be taken at face value and that is why I would like to introduce everybody to a very special girl. Her name is Rachel however to most she is known as the Vigilante Storm. Rachel is an orphan who grew up on the streets of Kings Row, scavenging to survive. At some point she found something meant for a young sidekick to the now deceased Kings Row war hero Vigilante Storm. Finding herself empowered she took the name Vigilante Storm to honour his memory and carry on his legacy. Since then she has fought tirelessly to protect the citizens of the Row.”

“Everybody I would like you to meet Rachel!”

Britanic gestured over to Rachel and smiled to get her to take the podium. Where Britanic was immaculate in his appearance, Rachel looked like she had just been dragged through a hedge backwards. The scruffy urchin nervously approached the podium. She hoped that Brit was going to stay with her she didn’t like the idea of facing the crowd alone. Although her heart was pounding she wanted to help her friends and help calm everything down. As she approached the podium Britanic moved over slightly so she could take centre stage. She looked straight at the gathered reporters.

“Umm, hi im Rach!....umm like I heard about all this Heroes for People thing as the guys were like brainstorming it...”

She looked about at the reporters, the room was silent and all eyes were on her. “Nooo freakin’ way! This lot is really gunna hear me out” she thought to herself. She allowed herself a little smile at this small victory.

“Anyway like I said I heard the guys talking ‘bout it... an’ I thought like wow this is pretty cool...instead of more big statues for’us how ‘bout givin’ the money back to the people who need it an’ mebbe do sumthing for dem every day heroes....you know like Cops, Teachers, Doctors an’ stuff.”

“Wow they’s still listening.” she thought. Her confidence swelled as she realised she might get through this without being booed out of the room.

“Anyway I don’t read too good...I got street smarts instead...so like when the sign up thingy got passed around I signed cos I already knew what wuz goin on...anyway I like hears that some people think its all some sort of anti-hero hate leaflet cos its worded all funny...an’ I think no way, I heard what the guys wanted. B’sides I got friends ‘an stuff who helped think it up an’ signed it...they are like heroes too why would they spread cr..uh stuff ‘bout themselves”

“Anyway I then hears that some people think the petition is dissing heroes an’ being ungrateful...So I thinks what if we try gets something to make everyone happy...an’ I thinks a garden would be cool...not many of them in the Row an’ I like flowers an’ stuff...an’ mebbe a big long wall like in that army cemetery with the names of everyone who died in the war, you know heroes an’ regular people too, that way everyone gets remembered...an’ I figures that instead of great big statues, it can have smaller statues so more people gets remembered...oh an’ its got ta have some sort of ranger or something to stop the gangs from tagging the place every five minutes.”

Rachel looked around the room proud that she managed to do her bit without messing up. “Um they are still like there listening wish Brit would take over now” she thought as her confidence started to slip again.

“Um an’ Suzi is like real nice otherwise ol’Ch...Brit here wouldn’t like her so much Too nice ta right nasty stuff an’ mean it. She probably mixed her words up like I do sometimes.

Britanic stepped in and put his hand on Rachel’s shoulder before smiling to the press.

    “Any questions ladies and gentlemen?...”

((Rachel was upset over the whole petition thing because it was meant as something good but been taken bad. Seeing as some of her good friends were involved in different ways and Suzi had dissapeared she didnt want to see anyone else get hurt. Rachel thought if the petition gave everyone something they wanted then everybody would be happy. She then came up with the idea of a memorial garden which she thought everybody would enjoy. She then decided that Brit would be the best person to change the petition and put things right.

After Brit heard Rachels idea he came up with one of his own that would incorporate Rachels. Brit was in no position to actually get the petition scrapped or changed as he was never one of the organisers. However he thought he could make amends for not looking into it properly if perhaps he could convey Suzi's message, and clarify the original intent. He then thought perhaps having Rachel try explaining her support and compromise idea that it wouldnt invalidate the original petition but might take the edge off. He really has started to blame himself for the fiasco because had he taken the effort to read it properly and pointed out the ambigious bits it would of probably changed before being published. Basically Brit is trying some damage control in the hopes of tempting Suzi back.

The other thing playing on his mind now is he knows that his motivation for getting involved is purely to try take the heat off Suzi, and he is worried about making things worse with his meddling.))
