Ok Issue #19 of the CoH comic is now up on the US site. This issue starts laying the ground work for the Rikti invasion, and pretty much says the Vanguard are expecting it. Having read this issue a while back it was something I used as the basis of a couple of my IC rumours a little while ago. Go on give it a read.
Warning the comic book is sometimes a little too close to the game. Look out for the mission reward scene.

Maybe having a 'Rikti War Stories' thread, or can use the exisiting IC stories thread.
Getting back into the swing of playing CoH now, will probablly desub WoW and resub my second account.

I think a Zero Hour thread might be cool. Have people post a short piece showing what their character's reaction is as the invasion kicks off. -
Sandra and Tracey looked at each other.
"Damn pity nobody can watch Trace, that looks like its going to be a good fight."
"How can you say that? The big guy has nearly three feet, and a good 200lbs on Britanic, he's gonna get creamed."
"Shut up Trace, Brit got that Hero of the City medal recently. They don't give that out for stopping purse snatchers y'know. Lets go hang in the Monkey bar. Maybe we can find out who won when they get out of the arena."
"Good idea San, if Brit does lose and he has to sing America the Beautiful standing on the bar, like he said he would, I want to hear that."
---
About fifteen minutes later...
"Here they come."
"Hmm, big guy is buying Brit a drink. I told you Brit would win"
"No I bet the big guy won, and hes just being gracious to Britanic."
"C'mon Trace does he really look the gracious type to you?"
"Shut up San Im trying to listen"
---
"Dont worry mate, I wont compromise you, and il keep an eye out for your sister."
"Thanks Brit. Il do what I can to get that information you want...Dont worry im a man of my word."
"Right im off. I still got new teammates to try catch up with. Look after yourself mate."
Sandra and Tracey looked at each other.
"Bit of an anticlimax San, huh?"
"Yeah. Lets go find some guys."

Britanic in response to Dr. Mechano showing off his bots in Pocket D.
"Great, another bloody walking toaster!"
That single comment was taken, twisted into a bizarrely absurd invention, and then marketed to the Union RP community...and I didn't even get a cut of the profits. -
I dunno how he gets away with it,
Who? And with what?
Big Game. He spends the night chatting up these two young female heroines, telling them hes the heroically amazing Captain Tiger or something, and they totally buy into it.
Well you got to admit for one of the bad guys he isnt really conventional in the way he dresses, and he does know how to turn on the charm on occasion.
Yeah, well he really pulled the wool over one of the girl's eyes, think I heard someone call her Angela Mercy or something. He even managed to convince her he should escort her home. She didnt even notice him bribing the Paragon elevator guard to let him through.
He ought to be careful one of these days hes gonna pick the wrong heroine, and shes gonna lead him straight to the Zig by his tongue.

No, it wasn't at Brit, as indeed I find his construction post very nicely done
I do find his Vanguard one a bit... godmoding Vanguard... but the other "pre-cog" or "Prophecie" posts...
Please feel free to ignore this sourpuss post ))

((I thought long and hard before doing the Vanguard post, actually researched what I could, and gathered opinions from various members of the RP community on what could reasonbly assumed IC. The DMZ in the Rikti Crash Site zone is meant to be a Vanguard sponsered operation, and although until I10 the game hasn't supported Vanguard models IC they were there. From what I have read from a few sources (CoH comic #19 being a good example) the Vanguard are preparing for something big. My post doesnt say that the Vanguard are preparing to repel and invasion, in fact if we didn't have any OOC knowledge of I10, most would think they are having a bit of a spending splurge, or possibly going to make a push against the already entrenched Rikti. At the end of the day even if I10 doesnt happen the sudden influx of equipment could be seen just as something a little more unusual than the PPD Gate Guard's normal boring routine.)) -
Britanics office, Sentinel Industries, Kings Row.
Bloody hell, not again. Eric Mitchell aka Britanic said as he slammed the phone down.
His personal assistant Cheryl turned to face him and spoke Whats the matter Mr. Mitchell?
Its this shortage of reinforced steel luv. I cant seem to get anything locally. Im going to have to get some brought in from out of state, which is going to cost more, and bloody add more delays to the renovation project. If this gets any worse I might ask Ben Campbell about smuggling some in from the Isles.
Cheryl gave her boss a wide eyed look. Britanic then chuckled and grinned back. Just kidding luv. You know all my business dealings with Ben are strictly above board.
Cheryl rolled her eyes. Im sure they are Mr. Mitchell. Would you like me to carry on calling around about finding some steel?
Yeah thanks. Saves me another headache...Oh and while you are at it try find out why there is a shortage all of a sudden, I want to make sure this is just a temporary thing, and not likely to cause problems in the future. -
Hmm, must be the start of the financial year for the Vanguard.
Eh? What do you mean?
All week now there has been a steady flow of trucks transporting equipment, and building materials into the DMZ. It looks like the accountants have been dipping into the coffers for a change.
Well if they are getting loads of new stuff maybe the Vanguard will get off their butts and finally turf the last of the Rikti out of the zone. If they do give the Rikti the boot, it would be nice if they started to rebuild White Plains like they're doing in New Overbrook.

And aside from that... what's to stop you from letting the other go down in an ambush?
What's to make them team up... at all?
[/ QUOTE ]
Its true many heroes and villains will find it hard to put mistrust aside in order to cooperate. I certainly wouldnt put it past some villains to forget to shout duck until after Rikti plasma fire takes off their hero rival's head. However circumstances are meant to be dire enough that former rivals will work together in the interest of survival.
The Immorality League's Big Lunk has something in the pipeline, that im going to help with to help forge a sort of understanding between the hero, and villain communities just as things start to kick off. Hopefully once done it will encourage some great IC hero/villain teaming.
So all il say for now is watch this space! -
Been toying around with the new cossie options on test (seeing as it was the only I10 stuff that seems to be on open test yet), and agree with Ech you might want to check some of them first. A nice additional touch is the Stealth combat webbing.
On a personal note it looks like the tight pants option that allowed me to make Brit's red, white, and blue casual cossie has returned(Oh yeah Havoc Fang you know the ones!)so I could possibly use that in Brit's custom suit now!

Another thing to remember is the buildings in game are merely representive of Paragon City. In reality the city is much more vast than can be shown in game. After all we cant really be expected to believe the Hellions are torching them same few buildings 6 or 7 times a day. Even they must get bored sometimes.
I dont think anybody would have a problem with you trashing a building(unless its something unique like city hall, in fact I think most of us has torched, nuked, or knocked down one at some point. -
"That Big Game is really going through the ringer at the moment. He got jumped by five guys at the Gallows last week, his home was fire bombed, broke up with his girlfriend, got attacked by some freak in a gimp suit, somehow lost all his money, and then literally got thrown out of the Golden Giza by security."
"I dunno he seems to be doing ok to me."
"Wha...What the hell you talking about?"
"I just saw him climb into the back of a Limo with what looked like the Swedish Bikini Team."
"No way! Hmmm, you reckon thats karma in action?"
"I dunno...hey wait maybe it is. C'mon Ricky slug me hard I wanna see karmic balance throw the Swedish Bikini team at me!"

... When does a 'n00b RP'er' become a 'Veteran' is it dependant on typing style? Character backstory? How you go about Roleplaying? How long you've done it for? I dont know myself, which is why i'm asking the community.
[/ QUOTE ]
What does it really matter. As long as both yourself, and the others around you enjoy roleplaying. If they are then you are doing something right.
To me veteran or noob are merely labels. While the veteran may have developed, and figured out all the little tricks, and technical details of roleplaying that doesnt mean thay are necessarily any good at it. For an example you could have mastered the English languge, and grammar but still write a terrible book.
The noob roleplayer may not be up with all the protocols, and conventions of roleplay, but may be blessed with natural talent, fresh thinking, and a wonderful imagination. Of course they could also be a total tool as well, but the same could also be said about some of the veterans.
Another thing to remember is just because somebody doesnt agree with something you have done with a character that doesnt necessarily make it wrong. If you want to make a change thats your decision. at the end of the day the physics of the CoX universe is different to our own, chances are you can find an IC explanation for what you have done.
Hell I did it myself. When I first rolled Britanic he had an eyepatch. Later on I added into his backstory he lost the eye in the Rikti war. After that I got sick of the eyepatch and decided that over time his own amazing powers of regeneration restored his eye. Weak but IC plausable.
Sure some may consider Echo's own story to have outlandish elements, but then entire game is built on this. You wanted to make changes, you made them, and then did the responsible thing and backed them up with IC logic, and story.
Personally Echo you are one of my favorite roleplayers on Union. I remember even before I had any dealings with any of your characters, we were in contact discussing ideas, and opinions. Dont worry too much about labels, styles, and semantics just continue to have fun. If something isn't feeling right at the moment try something else. You play the game for your own enjoyment, helping others enjoy it is a bonus. I dont care if you are a RP noob, or vet, I just like roleplaying with you.
(Hope thats restored some fuzzy feelings for you. If not I may have to resort to some outlandish stunt!)

Whoda thunk it? Big Game being a hero!
What the hell? You talking about big white hunter in the tiger stripes?
Yeah him. The Tavern in lives above in Oakes got torched by his old Humanity First buddies. Anyway him, and the girl hes shacked up with manage to get out, but five minutes later he goes back into the burning building to rescue his landlord and the guys daughter.
Was she cute?
Hehe, what do you reckon?
Geez not even a burning building will stop that horndog!

I generally dont recap, I instead prefer to write up an IC story piece, or an IC rumour to pass along informaton I feel others would be interested in, or just get a kick out of reading. Generally if I do recap its to clarify something, or because I dont have the time to do anything creative.
I read others recaps because im nosey, helps me picture the continuity im playing in, and as sources of inspiration. Although I may not necessarily remember details of recaps not related to myself or others I play with, unless there is something of particular interest.
Its partly because of stuff I read in recaps I got into RP myself, kinda made me feel like I was missing something. -
"Seems that tiger-striped Cassanova Big Game really upset someone this time. He got jumped right here at the Gallows by five armoured goons, they totally kicked the crud outta him. Never seen anything like it either. These guys were real pros. They didn't say a single word the entire time they laid into him, and I don't think I have ever seen the flawless level of teamwork these guys displayed. See that broken window there? After giving Game the beating of his life, they launched him straight through it. I gotta find out who these guys are, I could throw all kinds of work their way."

Im looking forward to this. My main Britanic has been an empowered mutant since before the original invasion, but much to his shame, never took any action during the war. Since then he has tried reddeming himself through his exploits over the last few years, but his war time inactivity still dogs him. Once this kicks off expect Brit to be in the thick of things, fighting alongside both hero and villain, doing his utmost to atone for his past. I got all kinds of ideas where the war is going to take him with this one.
For Partisan my anti-meta mastermind I can see this as a great opportunity to throw him into the limelight again, and use the conflict to rebuild Humanity First.
Big Game my mercenary corruptor will be devastated there is no hot alien chicks to flirt with, and maybe forced to reveal some of his less selfish tendencies.
That coop taskforce is going to be great excuse for forming hero/villain IC relationships.
I cant wait to unfurl the flag on this one! -

I'd like to nominate Zurra's portrait of Royal Flush for the Creative Genius Award.
In part I'm nominating because I want to encourage Zurra to do more work like this, but in the main it's because this is just a damn fine piece of art!
[/ QUOTE ]
I second that nomination. Its a fantastic piece that really conveys the spirit of the character. I really wish I had that level of talent too! -
Ok now I seen it all.
Why, what you see?
That Big Game actually turned a woman down.
What the hell? She must of been ugly as sin, a real bush pig.
No total opposite. She was totally hot! It was that Elizabeth Balthory, you know that vampire, runs her court from that castle in Cap Au Diable.
No way! Well cant blame Game for not wanting anything to do with that. If he had gone home with her he would of probably ended up a dry husk thrown into a dumpster, or serving as one of her lap dogs. Mind you takes a hell of a lot of moxie to turn down a lady that powerful. I bet she wasnt to pleased about it.
Damn straight! I dont think anybody has ever said no to her before. If looks could kill Game would of been a bloody stain across the bar floor. She totally vamped out, turned into a giant freakin bat monster and tore out of the bar.
Man, I kinda feel sorry for Big Game. You hear all kinds of sick rumours about what goes on at that castle of hers .Just imagine what she is going to do to Game if she gets hold of him.
Hey who knows maybe Big Game will surprise us all, after all hasnt he taken up monster hunting as a sideline?
Yeah, hes pretty good at it too. I heard he captured himself a real live Gargoyle by the Clock Tower near Fort Darwin last week.
Well he better hope he is good enough to handle vampires too, cause I cant imagine being humiliated by Big Game it going to sit easy with Balthory.

What makes you say that?
I was getting off the ferry in Port Oakes last night when I heard a yelp from up the top of the cliff stairway. I looked up and saw this freakin huge bearded guy dangling Big Game over the edge of the wall.
Big Game, you sure?
Yeah it had to be him, who else wears tiger striped pants?
Got a point there...Then what happened?
While he was dangling Game over the edge, the big guy starts tearing into the crazy merc. Im guessing Big Game started to do some pretty fancy talking, cause after a few minutes the big guy hauls Game back over the wall. Then I swear they shook hands, and headed off to Ds together.
What do you spose it was all about?
Ha! You know Big Game he probably slept with the guys girlfriend.
Yeah...Or his sister.
Hmmm...Maybe it was his mother?
Nah, his grandmother.
Eeeeugh! Thats gross...Hell knowing Game he probably slept with all of em.
<Both men burst into simultaneous laughter!>
Talk heard between two ferry passengers this morning. -
Im not a big fan of dissmissing IC events. When faced with something I think my characters should know, or be dealing with I either try to get involved, fudge explanations, or in someway acknowledge it happened.
Heroes for People was something that I had no intention to get involved with, bar signing the petition, but due to having strong ties to the movement's protagonists (Suzi White, Britanic's fiance') I took a bigger role in it.
The Requiem War happened before I got involved with roleplaying, although IC my main Britanic has been an active hero in Paragon since the end of the Rikti War, and would of been around IC. With the Requiem War there is no way IC that Brit could of ignored an event like that. So Brit fought the Council in the streets, but due to not having contacts within the part of the hero community who were at the core of the conflict, was as far as his involvement went.
Of course some sort of temporary merging of realities that has since repaired itself is a good IC fudge for why people at the core of it would remember it vividly while others might have little or no memory of it.
As for the Tempest Virus that was a Silent Tempest Plot, which I felt deserved more attention. Inspired by the RL panic over things like SARS, and Bird Flu, I figured a bigger reaction from Paragon was needed. Throwing in Partisan, and Humanity First was to stir things up, and show that sometimes fear of something can be just as devastaing as the real thing.
Problem is, unlike comic books, we dont have continuity editors to keep everything inline. Best we can hope for is people to be responsible with their plotting, and maybe make the little bit of effort needed to fudge other peoples work into their realities.
Going off on another tangent Big Game had noticed the insidious population growth of the Catgirls, and while he still ran with Humanity First wasted one himself. However since returning to his mercenary roots, and signing up with EVIL, he actually dated one instead. Guess this means the Catgirl Invasion will continue...hmmm perhaps Dog Boys are needed! -
a. Perhaps one of the baggy tops instead of the trenchcoat.
b. Super Strength Tanker would be my choice.
c. If you recolour the the surgeon cap it kinda looks like a cossack hat.
Pity there is no cossack stylee dance emote, or swig from the bottle emote, that would of fleshed him out great. -

This reminds me of something i was talking to Brit about (might not of been Brit. i got a terrible memory)
We should have our own glossary. Sort of a Union-RPers-Wiki.
That way we can have a nice and neat collection of all RPSG descriptions, companies, events, and possibly even RPer bios.

Yes we did have a discussion about this pretty much the same time we decided to do something similar on the EVIL forums. Im pretty sure somewhere along the line somebody said something unrelated, and funny and we ended up being sidetracked.

KM-Tech, The Gallows and Sentinel Investments just to mention a few. That forum section is avaliable for public viewing and mores being added. (Bare in mind the majority of that is Villian side.)

See I told you. This is just a basic example of the sort of thing a Union-Roleplayers Database might have in it. Although im surprised Echo never linked "Big Game's Dressing Up Box" here.

An early inspiration of mine for some of the stuff I created for my own fiction, and RP.
At the end of the day the official CoX RP boards, as well as individual RP groups own forums contain a wealth of interesting details players have added to create a fantastic continuity intermingled with the official CoX canon.Sure there is a lot to take in, but I feel this reality we have all created amongst ourselves is something that sometimes even rivals that of some established comic book realities.

I got no problem with it, and I would be happy to contribute.
Moving on, I don't know if others have ever done this but in the past I have used Salvage as props in RP. An example being when Britanic proposed to White Vampyr, I gave her , a "Ring" base salvage item.
As for emotes /em wounded is good for somebody who is wasted. /em Screen or /em Typing gets used for all kinds of manual tasks. Also I tend to throw in the occassional /em BackFlip in whenever Big Game dances, because he is a funky mover! -

Big Game Was doing his normal, chatting up everything with a skirt. Failing miserably on Antipode the blue Mutant.
[/ QUOTE ]
1. Big Game was "Networking!"
2. He still got to say "In your face!" to Antipode after she made accusations that Game might be scaring off EVIL's female clients. Big thanks to French Maid, who's warm goodbye to Game, just after Antipode's unfounded accusations, gave him the ammo for that comeback.
3. I wouldn't say he was failing miserably, its more of a war of attrition.
4. Probably best to keep Game's activities under wraps around certain other members of EVIL -
Last night's Merc Ball can be chalked up as a success. Big thanks to Echo for organising it, and all the others for helping it along.
I actually missed quite a lot of last night's background events due to Big Game selflessly keeping guests entertained, but still found more than enough to keep him busy. He met a lot of new people, made up a new post for himself within EVIL, picked up a job from Nightblood, managed to get in the bosses good books with minimal loss to his cigar stash(cigar story coming soon), get to say "In your face!" to Antipode, and pick up a few phone numbers(shhhh! keep that under your hat).
Yep! it was a bloody good night!
