Have you done the Ashley McKnight "Origin of Power" arc villainside? Or looked into Aeon's research on power proliferation? Inside the canon, the storytellers are going out of their way to say that yes, both Tech and Natural are both as valid Origins as the others and that all powers have a common source.
Your normal character still has the Charles Atlas Superpower, the power to improve oneself through training up to unimagined levels. This power, in the game canon, proably comes from the Well of Furies. The scientist who created the Tech device that gives your your Technology powers got the flash of inspiration thanks to the Well of Furies, since the Well raised the speed at which science develops.
On the case of Tech Origins, the technology your hero wields most of the time are things that would be outright impossible in real life. Anti-power extends an aura of normalcy that only allows possible things to happen.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I have done the Origin of Power arc, but I don't remember anything about Natural being related to the Well of the Furies, I'll take your word on it though.
My character does not have the Charles Atlas Superpower, because he has no unimagined skill in anything. All his skills are in the range of human possibility and everything he does is perfectly possible to happen. Thus, this would have no affect on him, it would cause no change in the things he does.
On there being other wells on other planets...I doubt it. We already know there isn't one on the Rikti Earth. There must be one on the Praetorian Earth. But really, this is speculation that will NEVER be confirmed. GR rampant speculation is with the premise that in the future your assumptions will be confirmed or disproved. Whereas this is one nof those things that we're unlikely to ever get the answer to. -
[ QUOTE ]
That's correct, but since the person who is USING the Anti-Power powerset IS superpowered himself, and can suppress super-powered beings, it would be very easy for them to suppress non-super powered beings.
So if you're a master of martial arts or a master marksman, they could easily subdue you.
[/ QUOTE ]
How if his ability is based on subduing superpowers. And I have no superpowers. Not to mention that I can't see a way a Natural Origin character could have this powerset. -
[ QUOTE ]
The well of furies is what brings the capacity for every superpower to exist. If your character is ordinary in every way, why are you still arguing?
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah, so we're in agreement. The Well of the Furies has nothing to do with Natural or Technology Origin Heroes/Villains as they don't have superpowers. Thus, this powerset does not affect those of Natural or Technology Origin. -
[ QUOTE ]
What do you mean with "people whose grandfathers weren't born yet"? People right now are still getting superpowers because the Well of Furies is still unlocked. The Well is the fountain of all power, and is not really considered "magic". Magic-users in the game are people who have inherited the blood of Mu and the ability to practise the magic arts discovered by the Entities long ago.
I'm guessing the Well provides inspiration to scientists for super-technology and gives humans the extra 'oomph' and badassness they need to endure the training they submit themselves to in order to master martial arts or one of the weapon powersets.
[/ QUOTE ]
Magic, is something that cannot be explained by science. The Well of Furies being "the fountain of power" has no basis for it being so and thus it is magic. And a magic origin character is someone who obtains their power from something inexplicable. For example, a daemon would have a magic origin. They have no power of ancient mu or the ability to practice magic, but they are of magic origin.
One of my characters is completely ordinary, in every way. He has no mastery of anything, and no special powers or abilities. And yet he got his powers from the Well of Furies. -
[ QUOTE ]
Spoilers ahead:
Doesn't the in-game canon kind of say that Natural and Tech origin superpowers are also mystically related to the other origins? All superpowers were unlocked when the Well of Furies was opened by Statesman and Recluse, including superhuman self-training and super-technological breakthroughs. Magic was suddenly strong again, Mutants all started being born at the same time and people started surviving freak scientific experiments rather than dying instead.
After the Age of Greek Heores was over and the Well was selaed, there were only weak magicians and the odd psionicist. The CoX universe has made psi-powers inherent to Natural origin, with the inclusion of Fortunatas, the PPD Psi-Division and the explanation of Sister Psyche during the "Origin" arc. It seems her only mutation is the mind-riding, the rest of psi-powers are inherent to any human who is willing to train.
Anti-Power is just that, the power to cut reduce the inflow of power from your Origin.
End spoilers.
As to the graphic animations, I'd like to see solid colored rings that clearly mark the extent of the anti-powers:
A psionic-pink ring orbiting around the heads for Inner Balance, a white ring around the chest for Outer Normalcy, for example. Or two huge rings in orange and blue with some fire and ice effects for Stabilize Temperature, like the ice and fire are trying to get in but can't. Large black and white rings with eclectric sparks in both colors for Equalize Energies... Something classy and easy to see but simple, since anti-power is supposed to be an absence of power.
[/ QUOTE ]
So the Well of Furies unlocked the powers of people who's grandfathers weren't born yet. So, even if I have a character who has ABSOLUTELY nothing special about him at all, his powers are actually of magic origin. That's just ridiculous. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure you'd be able to go rogue straight away - previous mentions of it by the devs said that it wouldn't be easy to do, which makes it sound like it'd take several arcs before you were changed enough to switch sides.
[/ QUOTE ]
Indeed, I'm not disputing that. In each area there is three contacts and what would be good is some version of a paper mission. One contact would have good-aligned missions and one arc, maybe more. One contact would have evil-aligned missions and the same amount of arcs. And the third contact would be morally ambiguous with both good and evil aligned missions. The "paper" missions would all have their own alignment sa well, so potentially you could change in alignment in one area of a zone, it would still take a while however. And I assume that after you've got your meter to max, you would go to a special contact to prove you've really changed, where you would have yet another, more difficult arc that may end with a fight with an Elite Boss or Arch-Villain before you are truly allowed to switch sides.
I think that maybe the changing sides in relation to levels might work that at certain levels you are given the chance to change sides, like 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50. The only way you can change sides before 10 is by not picking one, and starting in the neutral starting zone in Praetoria where you do the missions not to change, but to discover what kind of hero you are. -

So on the basis americans spell colour without a U, honour without a U, valour without a U, you're claiming american-english is better for people to express themselves? Wow that's stupid.
We invented the language so we decide how to spell things. We're the ENGLISH people. And just because your language is more recent than ours, (not) isn't anymore reason for people to use it.
And america isn't cultured, you were owned by the British and then the only thing you have going for you now is war, movies, and burgers, and being the fattest country on the planet.
If you want a cultured society, i suggest you study China, which has thousands of years of it.
Also, there is no 'correct' version of english, apart from ENGLISH english. Americans can claim what they want, it won't change anything.
If you want to call a language your own, and a correct version of it, i suggest you invent your own language, because most of us being european, you're not gonna win this one, so just leave it =)
Oh, and to TrueMetal, Britain's queen still controls Australia, so your version of english won't take precedence over ours either.
[/ QUOTE ]
While I agree with a lot of your argument, some what you said was bordering on racism, which just isn't acceptable.
Moving onto a lighter note, most of the argument however lost it's oomph when you claimed that the Queen controlled Australia when she doesn't even in control England -
Yep, so on my main, Beyond Reach I was looking at what IO Sets I might like to have in the future, and upon coming across Gravitational Anchor, which is a simply amazing set - I only have to put one enhancement of the set on for the best bonus! - I came across Fortunata Hypnosis. I thought, that looks cool let's see if I can't find myself a Sleep power. However, within the Power Pools, Gravity Control, Psionic Assault and Soul Mastery there was no sleep power.
I thought, ah well, I'll just put it on my Fortunata when I finally get my character to 50. A little later I was reading about the different choices etc. that you get to make as a Widow so I decided to check out the different powersets...You've probably guessed what I'm getting at by now if you play a Fortunata. THERE IS NO SLEEP POWER FOR A FORTUNATA.
*facepalm*
Seriously Devs. [censored].
P.S. The suggestion part of this is HINT put Mesmerise/Mass Hypnosis in Fortunata Training HINT. -

GG...seriously, maybe you should stop arguing. Even if we were wrong, you aren't going to win on an English forum.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not arguing - I'm just saying that as our cultural reach is the biggest right now, more people use our version of English than yours.
[/ QUOTE ]
You just argued.
And I'm not disputing that. I'm disputing the fact that you claim you are speaking the correct version of the language. -

So, what do you think the Red Names are including in Going Rogue?
For me I can see a minor graphics update (nothing too dramatic), Dual Pistols power set and Demon Summoning power set. After reading some info on the issue I found out that the villain we see at the start is a demon summoner (not linky at the moment). I can also feel a new TF/SF (Singular or combined) and a good bit of Manti story.
Now, let's here your ideas and speculations.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would start eating tasty Dev heads if this were to happen. That is a PITIFUL amount of content for an expansion. I foresee three new zones at least, Dual Pistols, Demon Summoning, much more than one or two taskforces...where did you get the Manti story from? You know this is about the Praetorian Statesman, Tyrant invading our dimension, as well as Villains becoming Heroes and Heroes becoming Villains?
[/ QUOTE ]
If they make GR possible from level 1, and the current set-up of like 10 levels per zone is followed, then that'd be at least 5 new zones.
But if they decide to try totally massive zones instead, then there might only be two or three needed to cover the 1-50 content.
[/ QUOTE ]
I did make a huge post about this but it got lost in the mass of the other GR thread, about three zones, 1-24, 25-40 and 41-50. They are separated into three different areas with different sets of contacts. You can either play all the contacts that boost your rogue meter to maximum and go rogue straight away, or play the current alignment ones as well and continue your ambivalent journey exploring the rest of the zone. -
I am part of a very small SG called Blackhail, we have six globals currently, all active, three super-active - not including me I'm sorry to say
- if you're looking for a casual atmosphere with no requirements whatsoever to join - our ranking system is pretty much a joke
- then I would recommend us. We have no meeting times at all, but I know the guys are always trying to get me to take part in an SF at least once a week, so you'll definitely be alright in that department. Our two most active members have an incurable case of altitis, they have characters at every level imaginable so you'll have no trouble teaming with them. Three of us are actually quite avid roleplayers if you're into that sort of thing, but we don't roleplay that much in game.
Yep, so if you want an utterly casual atmosphere which still gets together and does strikeforces, trials etc. then speak to @Beyond Reach, @Ambivalent Ectasy or @Nadeth and we'll invite you with a click of the mouse. -

Also, in MA 2.0 this will be a feature apparently - the ability to set the level of the mission.
How that will (not) work and present new problems will be interesting to see!

I play a game called Bejewelled Twist, its one of the frantic Popcap Games titles that are insanely time consuming. So as you continue to make matches you increase your XP... wait did I say XP?... score multiplier. When you die... wait... fail to make a match you lose that bonus and have to start again.
CO is probably nothing like that.
[/ QUOTE ]
HOLY ****. Who would play Bejewelled Twist!? That is an awful system, and certainly not a solution! And personally I'm surprised that a new puzzle-game maker would choose such a controversial system such as that! -

I'm sure there will be a thread here, and the questions will be passed on to Manticore.

I concur with Razor.
A game is meant to be fun. By and large, it still suceeds in that.
[/ QUOTE ]
I may be jaded by my length of time in the game, but to me, less risk due to the minimal death penalty means less "rush", which equates to less fun and thus a shorter game lifespan for newer players.
CO has a great death penalty just implemented. Shame I can't actually mention what it is though as it'd be a great way of handling things.

So if I asked a friend who I know is in beta and I'm guessing will tell me... and post it here can they stop me?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, they can't STOP you, in China they can't STOP you from [censored] on Chairman Mao's statue, but they will not be happy about it...
I'd recommend your friend not to tell you. -
I'd just like to point out that the Dominator inherent only ever so slightly supports not stopping. As my Dominator I stop for a minute or two, decide the best course of action all the time. Because Domination lowers REALLY slowly, and you can use Domination when the Domination bar is above 90% not 100%. If it was 100% I MIGHT think twice, but it's easy to start at 75% and get up to Dom range in one or two attacks.

The Black Skull Rebellion
ID: 171881
Author name: Beyond Reach
Description: While the Petrovic Brothers are distracted overseas, a new player among the Skulls is delving the death-cult into even darker depths than usual. What's worse than a violent, drug-dealing, death-worshiping street gang? Are you ready to find out?
I'd prefer if the poster would be centred around the image of someone rising from a dark pool, preferably someone who looks like a Skull. But if that isn't possible at all, just go nuts.
Thanks! -

From the Rogue expansion, we haven't yet be informed abount any penalties for joining the other faction. I'm not confirming that there are penalties, but I predict that there is a good chance of a few.
I imagine there could possibly be a inf penalty or badge penalty. Anyway, my main point is that I think they will probably include some penaltys, and that one of them will probably be a inf penalty.
And this is if they don't merge WW and the BM.
[/ QUOTE ]
It'll flop if they have too many restrictions, just look at the fuss over some easy to get badges. If they stop you from transfering over with cash or some sort you immediatly limit the amount of people who will actually swap. I know I for one would have to give it serious consideration of some characters.
If they for instance stop you taking a complete slotted build over with you so you can't respec and sell once there, people would get to the other side and be unable to slot up.
It might of course be a penalty 15% or something of your cash... but IDK I'm reckoning they'll just merge the markets after a while with the villains getting better drops.
[/ QUOTE ]
The obvious solution is to merge the markets, but if they decide not to, or they can't, there is another option.
Hero has 1mil influence. He goes rogue. In Rogue Isles he has 0 infamy and 1mil influence. Infamy can only be spent in the Rogue Isles and influence only spent in Paragon. Once the hero returns to Paragon he will have ?infamy and 1mil influence. It's irrelevant how much infamy he has, because infamy can only be spent in the Rogue Isles, but he has as much influence as he left with.
