  1. The big trick I found if you want it to run Ultra Mode on a slightly older vid card is to adjust the "Max Particles" slider down. I moved mine down to 17797, and my NVidia G8600 card was enough to handle it after that. Haven't had any problems since.
  2. I don't know but..... it might be a good idea to make one of those global messages about it, like the one they gave us the day before i17 went live, warning about losing purchase history information.

I mean: shutting the whole market down would seem like a bigger issue than losing last 5 purchase history. I feel kind of frustrated that I had to come on the forums in order to figure out what was going on.

    edit:add:
If they play this right, it could be totally a non-big-deal. Since WW and the BM are in game character/institutions, they could just say the SEC is investigating WW, and the BM doesn't want to risk doing business as usual during a major SEC investigation, so it's shutting down until the heat blows over.
  3. I can't use the black market at all. It tells me "The Black Market could not process your request. Please wait a few moments and try again." I've logged on and off, rebooted the game, left and came back an hour later. Nothing seems to work. I can't buy or sell, or even put stuff in storage.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is it widespread, or just me?
  4. You would think that would be true, but sometimes the Arsonist's actual name changes to something else.

Here's an improved version of the fix macro:

    /macro Rename "clear_petnames$$petsay_all <em alakazamreact>$$petrename_name Arsonist Kenny$$petrename Kyle$$petrename_name Punk Cartman"

Select one of your punks (not the arsonist) before activating it, of course. If you've got all six of your pets out, then you need to add the tier 1 & 2 names afterward by using:

    petselect 0$$petrename Timmy$$petselect 1$$petrename Cook$$petselect 2$$petrename Stan

    So all together it is:

    /macro Rename "clear_petnames$$petsay_all <em alakazamreact>$$petrename_name Arsonist Kenny$$petrename Kyle$$petrename_name Punk Cartman$$petselect 0$$petrename Timmy$$petselect 1$$petrename Cook$$petselect 2$$petrename Stan"

You'll usually have to fire it twice, selecting a common punk both times, but there you have it. Instant renaming of all 6 pets to get their names right. I've been trying to find something shorter and simpler, but to no avail. Or at least it takes 2 macros instead of 1 if you want to do it simpler.

For Demon Summoning, it should be a lot easier, because you don't have to deal with the two Punks both being named "Punk". Each demon has it's own name after you clear the names.
  5. Alright. I went ahead and tested this on my Thugz MM, and there is one frustrating problem: Both your non-arsonist punks have the exact same name after you clear petnames: "Punk". Here's the workaround I came up with.

Create a new macro. Just type "/macro Rename_all Rename"and you'll get a new macro with that name on it. (Just saying this for anyone who doesn't know how to create macros)

Right click on the macro's button on your power bar, and choose "Edit", then paste this code into it:

    clear_petnames$$petrename Bob

Then make a second macro the same way, and paste this code into it.

    petrename_name Punk Joe$$petrename_name Arsonist Jebediah

You just select one of your ordinary punks, then hit the first macro button. Then hit the second macro button. I tried making it all into one macro, but that didn't work reliably. It kept failing to name one pet, or the other. You can substitute any pet name for Bob, Joe, and Jebediah, of course.

It's funny, the devs are master showmen/women. I asked about rumors of an electric control set on the Controllers forum about a month ago, and Castle came on and semi-authoritatively said there would be no Electric Control set. You can well imagine I was ecstatic when I found out that there will be one in GR.

So, sure. They'll probably keep saying no. It doesn't mean they won't do it. It just means they don't want to be held to doing it and/or it's down on their list of priorities below a few other things they consider more important.

However: after the amazing art they put into DS, I don't see customization happening anytime soon. Those demons are customized way beyond costume selection options, so making more demon looks would probably be a lot more work than just going into a AE and changing their hoofs, or horns.

I haven't tried this yet, just so you know...

There is a slash command called /clear_petnames

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Clear_pe...ash_Command%29

    There's another one called /petrename_name

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Petrenam...ash_Command%29

So, I'm thinking, it would be a long macro, but you could go:

    /clear_petnames
    /petrename Punk1 Bub
    /petrename Punk2 Jim
    /petrename Arsonist Jebediah

Or something like that. If you try it, please do tell about the results. I'm not sure I'll get around to doing this anytime soon.
  8. What they do offer is a crazy amount of def debuffing. I have often been tempted to make a merks/dark, simply because if I let my henchmen soften up a mob before using my targeted heal on them, I'm virtually guaranteed to hit.

I also like that they are ranged without as much knockback as the bots, which makes it possible for teammates to endure my companionship.
  9. This exactly why MM's would be overpowered if they got high bonuses on leadership, though. They have pets who are guaranteed to be near them at all times, or at least accessible. This is similar to why Brutes and Scrappers get low defense bonuses from pool powers. It's just plain necessary to balance them.

Looking over the powers and their numbers the only secondary I personally wouldn't see it playing that well with is TA. But only because TA is so good at maintaining range while DS is a up close and personal set. It could still work though.
Does the AOE heal work on you too, or just your pets? What about the AOE resistance bonus? Is that pets only?

I want to try poison or Storm, but not if it means leaving my MM overly vulnerable with no self heal.

For me, that decision depends on whether the demons put the bomb on the ground, or blow themselves up when I use Detonator on them.
  11. From an RP perspective, you've got to figure these guys aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. Otherwise, why would they follow you?

Sometimes it's a good thing they're dumb, too. Otherwise they might choose to disobey certain orders, like planting a bomb on the ground without enough time to get away, or staying and fighting a hopeless battle against some AV while you run away to safety so you can summon more foolish pawns.

I dont want to make them women to be a pimp, I dont want to make them 3 feet tall...I just want to make each one look unique enough so that my henchmen dont look like twins, and dont look like your Ninja Henchmen. That is my one problem with this very unique powerset...if I'm a ninja MM and you are a Ninja MM, the suspension of disbelief is shatterd when your henchmen look exactly like mine.
Yeah. I totally agree on that. I'd like to customize them just so they're unique. Giving them silly names doesn't quite do it for me.

The worst part is, the basic motiff design is something you don't even need a professional artist for. Players could do it in AE, or using the costume designer. I wish they'd hold a contest for it or something, because I'm sure a lot of players would contribute to it, and it would save a lot of effort for devs. (Except then they'd have to judge the contest....so maybe it doesn't balance out?)

As for pimping concerns.... maybe they could just set it so that only female MM characters can have female pets?

She starts throwing the axe back and forth between her hands, which looks kind of silly. In retrospect, it's not that bad. It just makes the axe seem like a little toy instead of a deadly instrument of destruction.

I'm starting to detect a consensus on Icicles, though. I have to admit that having only 2 axe attacks (and Sands of Mu) does get kind of tiring.

  15. I'm trying to decide if I will need more than just Chilling Embrace for aggro. I just did a Sister Psyche TF with just that and it seemed fine, but I'm debating adding something else like Icicles, or the Axe taunt.

I wouldn't add either if I don't need it to hold aggro. The Axe Taunt for female toons is just aesthetically attrocious. Icicles also kind of messes up my aesthetic, but not nearly as badly. I'm not sure if I'll have enough end to keep it running very often anyway, though, even with Stamina, and the damage type is lethal, which doesn't add a lot to my axe attacks.

I just don't want to let my teammates down when I get on teams, mostly. I also like herding, so I'm curious if taunt would add to my ability to do that very much. Chilling Embrace is just great, because for some reason it makes all the mobs just want to gather around. I might bring myself to endure the silly looking axe taunt, if it will get me that.

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I have to choose my level 22 power next time I log on.
  16. K. Good to have that confirmed before I go ahead with this. Thanks.
  17. On some builds, even that slight 2.25% defense boost can be handy. On my ninjas MM, it becomes the full 4.5% I think, since she rarely uses her personal attacks on anybody.

Is there any justification for the Snipers being able to see you? I think that is somehow very lame.

edit: Just read Gavin's post. So they're not perfectly stealth piercing? That's a relief.
  18. I chose Ghost Slaying axe on one of my toons, because I wanted to try it and planned to respec soon. I'd really rather have chosen Sands of Mu, now that I think about it. And... it turns out a normal respec doesn't let you rechoose that.

I suspect that there is no way to switch it, so I'm thinking I'll just have to remake the toon. she's only up to level 27, so it won't be too bad. I just thought I might ask if there's a remedy for this before I finalize the restart.

I'd let them go in first to generate hate, then unload Glue Arrow, Disruption Arrow, and Poison Gas Arrow. And then have nearly all the enemies turn to shoot me instead of the tanks struggling to hold aggro off me.
My theory is that persistent area effects provoke aggro back at you. My ninjas MM is constantly getting attacked by enemies who won't fight my ninjas, and that's pretty much the only reason I can think of. Maybe the caltrops my ninjas drop are interpreted as coming directly from me?

Yeah. I started doing that after I had done a partial resummon after a previous battle, and noticed that the two punks I had resummoned stayed, and the one punk that was with me from the start of the mission ran off.

Even using Teleport ally hasn't gotten me success recovering the ones that run off. They just run off again, and kind of magically at that.

In this case, hitting them with a targeted power usually resets them. As near as I can tell, hitting them with a targeted power (heal, shield, whatever, as long as it's not AoE and can hit an ally) forces them to check to see if they are a valid Ally target or not. Doing so seems to force a reset on their ownership flag. Alternatively, you can use a command to dismiss *all* your pets, and then resummon them. Going into combat will also sometimes reset them, since it appears that getting hit with an attack forces the same check to verify they are a valid target.
    I usually use Equip Thugz.

So... they should take a set that's already way too powerful, and make it even more powerful?
  22. Can you use more than one stealth proc if you have more than one type of travel? Like if you have both teleport and flight, could you use the procs from both of those powers?
  23. Valentyna has a great Necro/Pain tankermind build she's been working on here:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com//showthread.php?t=214126

As for Suppress Pain vs. Share Pain I would go with Suppress any day of the week. For your tier 3 pets, I find that Suppress heals somewhere around 50% or more of their hp, and that's if it's not even well slotted. (That was on a Thugz/Pain). As for Share Pain, I think the one thing MM's really cannot afford to do is sacrifice their own hp. You're just too squishy.

From what I can tell, the first attack power for DS isn't actually a whip, so you're not really losing out on any of the awesome whip-ness by taking a targeted heal. Plus, the variety issue with the demons means that, for most battles, there will probably be certain demons you want to keep alive more than the others because of the type of damage they deal.

Good point. I hadn't really thought about a Brute wanting to max out their own aggro. I certainly don't mind if they want to save me the trouble of summoning more pets.

Stalker: I don't like masterminds. They kill things fast, and always shoot first. I can never use my precious assassin strike. And they don't let me run away right after I kill one enemy.
I love teaming with stalks. My MM's are never as strong on damage as they are on survivability. I just remember to always tell them how much I love the work they do.

    Quote:
Of course the hate stems originally from badly played Masterminds. Someone encounters two or three poorly controlled masterminds, and assumes all masterminds are like that. I noticed teaming dried up in the 20's on my first one. And now teaming dries up around level 10.
Yeah. I find it's important to get yourself a reputation as a good MM. There are a few people on Virtue who will look me up by my global when they need an MM, which makes me suspect they must like my particular approach. I try at all times to cultivate that response. It's not so much about being a badarse yourself, either. It's about playing your role well, even if you suck overall as a player. (I tend to end playing with people who are better/ more experienced at playing than I am.) I always make sure to buff/heal Brutes before my own henchmen, and I hate re-summoning, so I'm actually kind of shy about sending my henchmen after every last mob.

I think it's very important to make sure all of your teammates have fun. If you don't make an effort, then it's very easy to squelch their fun or kill their buzz. You've usually got pets on your crew that can do most jobs a team needs at a mediocre level. That means a mediocre, but expendable pet might be taking away the thunder of somebody who's highly specialized at doing a crucial job. They'll get bored and want to quit the team.

Allow them to shine (by which I mean do all the work), and they actually love you more and want to invite you back. It's kind of a cynical irony that the lazy MM is the favorite to team with. (I don't object, though. I kind of like being lazy and still getting XP.)
  25. If there's no guide, that's probably just cause it's a recent thing (or at least recent as in 6 or 10 months old). Almost every 2 bot MM's I meet, one of them is a /therm. It's probably the best mix. I refuse to play one, though, because I like to feel unique.

You can get their lethal resistances up to 50% easy. Add to that the small amount of defense from the protector bots and you've got quite a lot of survivability.
/Thermal is hard to use with other primaries because it gives you no good way to stop mobs if they choose to bypass your pets and go straight after you. The protector bot's force field gives you some defense, plus you can slot Gaussian's set to Forge, and then Steadfast Protection to one of your Damage Resistance powers, and you can start getting a good defense for yourself.
