HAHA really! no no I joined many years ago.. infact the same year it came out. Took a break for a few years to. Anyway I just never bothered with the forum before.
I read lygers advice one time on a farmer build and could not believe what he was saying... and I was like this guy calls himself an expert farmer.. wow! Yet he knows nothing about what he is talking about. So I bit.. maybe to hard but still.. and others agree.. what he was saying was "odd" for an expert.
The other thing is these boards a full of people and their fake stats and claims its like you all have the same build and swear by it. I farmed with the ss/fire and I have farmed with others who use it and its not any faster.
And who are you anyway? Lyger's big bro?
Quote:BellyButtonJelly, lay off. We can see by your join date that you've had the game for less than a year, and Lyger has been on since '05, so they probably have more experience on the topic than you. Maybe the guy who PL'd your 2 50 brutes in that 6-7 month time period since you got the game likes elec/fire better, or a ss/fire brute that PL'd you wasn't quite as fast, but any ss/fire brute will out farm an elec/fire brute with he same inf invested. -
You might find you like those 2 purps in CI but they can be replaced with makos to. At any rate they are not deal breakers just more Acc/dmg.
Best thing to do is give your build a shot and see if you like it or not. See if you think the extra HP is worth it.
Quote:I mainly just want to Brute. Deal out damage and survive at decent levels. I figured 30% defense to S/L/E/N covers a lot of incoming damage. It may not be the soft-cap, but with resist numbers to reduce incoming damage, it should be enough last between HF uses. The +HP is just to help boost the effective resistance. 50% global recharge should allow a higher damage output, and the fact that it's all fire or energy damage will mean most of it's going to get through.
Do I want to farm with it? Eh, if I feel the need. Sure. But all-around "bruting" is all I'm worried about.
I'll take a look at the build when I get home, but one thing that jumps out is two-slotted Hecs. I meant it when I said no purples. I have good resources, but not at levels for buying purple IOs. I get using them for keeping enhancement values decent, but there's cheaper ways to do that and get good bonuses. -
One thing I am not clear on is what you want to do with this guy. Is this a farmer? Support role toon? What do you want to really do with him? I always build my toons in a well rounded way, plenty of defence to survive in the wild and in AE farms. It seems like you have accomplished all your goals and if you want to hit 30% Def for S/L then just use a set of 6oblits in LR and your done.
I run a Elec/fire brute as my main and have tried many different things with it but I mostly use him as a farmer but again he can leave the world of AE behind and go wherever and handle just fine. This combo is very fun to play BTW and off the beaten down to death path of the very common SS/Fire
So recharge is your top priority if you really feel the need to stack on extra HP then that's your call, healing flames is enough to help you get out of a jam and its back up again in a hurry so adding HP and regen for me are not really all that important. I would rather have better defence than 30% for S/L to offset less HP. As I said healing flames will save you if you get in over your head.
Anyway made soome changes to your build where you were missing some things. Play the way you wanna play and tune your build that way and see if you like it. I can post my build if you like but I will repost yours with some changes.

Quote:I've been racking my brain for a good exotic damage output machine, and figured the best way to go would be something with /FA. Considering the AoE potential of EL/, I figured it would be the best pair up. I'm sure others have tried highlight exotic damage before, so I wanted to see if anyone had experience with EL/FA. I considered DM/FA, for it's potential to double up on heals and end-recovery, but with it's single target damage it seemed it wouldn't output as much as I'd like it to.
I've thrown together a little build where I wanted to go for a trifecta of bonus groups. First I wanted to get as close to 30% Def for S/L/E/N and as close to 50% recharge as I could get. Lastly, I wanted to have a decent sprinkle of +HP. All of which shouldn't destroy my enhancement values in my power selections. Somehow, I'm sure there's a more efficient way to accomplish these goals (without dipping into purples or PVP-IOs). I'd say the inf I have at hand is moderate, but you will see the PVP defense IO which I saved up for on A-Merits.
So, any suggestion are welcome, and if you post a build just make sure to list out the bonuses at the end (same format I'm doing now) so I can view them while at work (where I'm on a Mac without Mids). Also, if you think another power set combo would work better, feel free to mention it and the reasons you think it would out perform. Thank in advance.

Quote:I don't think I've ever seen a SS character not using Rage outside of a few RPers here and there. If you stopped roleplaying during your farms, you'd probably find an elec/fire brute doesn't come anywhere close to a SS/fire brute ; I'd know, because a casual glance at the numbers can tell anyone so, but also because I have both combos. As usual, ingame experience shows good math is correct. -
Sorry but do you even have an elec/fire toon? Did I insult you in some way? Why are you so rude? Why would I trust your math? I think that math is one thing and playability is another.
-
So which one do you run with no issues? SS/Fire/Pyre or SS/Fire/Body?
Quote:I have a SS/Fire/Pyre, no endurance issues.
I have the +end in stamina and the T2 Cardiac end/resist slotted.
Back before i18, he was a SS/Fire/Mu, after i18 he became a SS/Fire/Body. The two +end procs in Conditioning and Phys Perfection. The Alpha allowed for more damage in build, which I'm quite happy with.
But to answer the question of very best farmer.
Any toon you can stand to play for longer then 3 hours straight doing the same thing. Some builds are just more efficient then others, anything can farm. -
Yes and you just made my point SS/fire is not a great awesome farmer because you have to support it with the same stuff any other toon could grab. So ya the whole reason you grab SS is for FS+Rage.. which turns out to be a lousy combo in a farm. Many people who praise the SS/Fire also don't bother using Rage in the farm to avoid the crash.
What makes a good farmer? Lots of AOE that does good dmg and there are other sets that give you more AOE options than what SS can offer you.
Build up an elec/fire then come talk to me about who knows what.
Quote:Ok, I for one DO NOT recommend farming on JUST SS/fire, SS/fire would SUCK ***. ItÂ’s also the /Mu (or /pyre if you want) that is also very very important. My SS/fire/mu ALWAYS has an AoE up...so yeah 0 waiting for anything AT ALL. So you obviously have no idea what youÂ’re talking about. Havent we been over this before? Did i mention i always have an AoE up? -
Lyger has no clue about farming. What "cone's" are you talking about Lyger? There is one attack classified cone "Jacob's ladder" which no one takes for farming which means that there are no cones in an elec/fire build for farming.
I have both SS/Fire and Elec/Fire.. I only farm with the Elec/Fire.
SS/Fire is pretty boring stuff as you just wait for your one button(FS) to come up every 5 seconds. You can't use Rage either because the end drain slows you down to much. Elec/Fire is busy all the way killing non stop and LR has a bigger radius than FS. SS/Fire people have never tried anything but that build. I have both and SS/Fire is far more boring and I don't like managing the end if I don't have to. So what fun is it if you don't even use Rage?? You just have to rely on Red Insps of course.. and that means any AT is just as good if not better.
Perhaps lyger
Quote:Elec/Fire is meh. Cones arent my thing. It's decent, but not more epic farmer than SS/Fire
Fire/Fire is good as well, but the KD proc in Footstomp is pretty damn sweet. That and double rage (regardless of the crash) will have you pumping out amazing damage while stacked. -
Ya I don't know either.. I think I am stuck between solo and team. I am not sure there is a build that will work well solo but I am certain that there is one that can work with a team. I think it's coming down to what role I want to play.
-
Most things seem to cut through the res.. maybe its because I am not all the way to 50 yet(47)?? I went and tested my toon in a large fire mob in AE and I did well as long as I had about 3 purple insp's going. Without them I hit the floor hard and fast. I had it set to +1/8
I have been reading on here that most people have trouble in a solo situation and I would have to agree with that. Solo is a tough go when you need a mob to make your toon work. Stygian Circle works good if you kill someone but its not going to give you enough health from one body as you get beat up by the mob.
So this is a AT that is better with a team. I really like the idea of putting leadership in a WS build but.. heh wating for a teamate to die so you can be really uber seems kinda silly. Ya don't get up yet.. I need you dead.
Its a tough theme that you need something dead to feed off of but you might not get enough from 1 body. You need a team to really make it work and then also you might need a dude to die to make your dude uber.
Quote:What are you fighting that makes 85% resistance not good enough?
In order to mimic the mitigation of 45% softcapping to all positions against regular (50% base tohit) mobs, I believe you would need about 16% defense to go with your 85% resistance.
Other than that I can't really comment as I am no expert on human-only builds. I guess remember to use Stygian Circle? -
I have been playing around with my human\WS now for a number of days.. repec'd 2 times already. I have been wondering if adding Def is worth it becasue in my previous builds I have not done anything with def. Sorry to say but even with 85% res I am really missing the defence in certain situations as I still end up dead. I figure that I would be better in a team situation but I have been doing missions on my own as of late.
It seems clear to me that this toon is best suited to mobs. But I have had a hard time surviving the mob when I run out of purples in the mission. Its odd.. I need the mob but I can't always kill the mob to get what I need. Anyway I need some help here with my Human/WS. So with defence being harder to come by it should I go out of my way to add it in even if I can only get one position higher?
Here is the build I think I want to use but do I really need what I have? Some help would be nice.

You don't need so much slotted in health.. here is one that uses fire epics and is a solid farmer that can take more than just fire baddies. For i19 you can add temp protection, superspeed and taunt.
This is a good all around farmer.

I am not sure what you are doing with all that knockback in there. It's really not needed at all as long as you have grounded turned on.. which you would.
This should make things more interesting and is more concerned with recharge to keep your energize up and running.

So are we to assume that your claws build is also sloted similar in inf amount to how you have your ss/fire toon? Your ss/fire guy costs what? This the same toon that you said gets footsomp up in 4 seconds?
I think we should also have video of you doing anything there Kev considering your well noted bias for ss/fire.
Quote:Okay I went back to the ambush farm to test out the Claws/Dark with Fireball, this time without using inspirations. So, using FU/Spin/Eviscerate/Fireball/Death Shroud I got around 740k inf/minute. Now, with the SS/Fire using Rage/Foot Stomp/Fireball/Blazing Aura I got around 900k inf/minute. And no, I haven't been using Fiery Embrace in any of the tests.
With that, I think I'm done running these for now lol. -
Hmm.. if that's one for me then you are the one that has your head so far up your ss/fire that you can't see anything for what it is. I also take that as an insult and will report you for trolling.
And if not then have a nice day.
-
Great thread and great read this turned into. The best thing is that there may not be one clear cut winner thus making it not such a simple question to answer about what is really best. Raw numbers show something I would not have guessed for claws. Interestingly there is enough of an unknown property to leave some speculation and that brings up a reason to try something new.
I admit some frustration in always seeing SS promoted as the only way to go for AoE Dmg(farming). It turns out that its just 1 option of several good choices that can be made. Choice is a reason that I always promoted elec/fire when ss/fire made its claims. Its what I run its been effective and is a solid set and every bit as good as ss/fire if not better for certain reasons. More importantly there is more than 1 option to choose from making the game very interesting and complex and not just a simple, make this build its the best and be done answer.
I don't need to see numbers for elec/fire to convince me that its solid but if someone wants to see them I could possibly help bring them to the table. -
If you want to particapate then you need to read and even more so when you decide to come and post in here and start saying things and answering questions incorrectly. Also its not personal, I stated a fact and if it was personal I would have insulted you, and I did not insult you at all. I pointed out the fact that you did not read and if you find the truth insulting then what can anyone do.
And no even with footstop up 2x its not going to out do electric in ten seconds.
No its not just about farming potential its about who does the best AOE dmg and we learned that SS is not top of the heap for AOE dmg. That means that when thinking about farming you need to use your secondarys and epics to make it viable. And no RAGE does not keep going and going.. it wears off after awhile as Bill stated.
Quote:Firstly: personal attacks are not becoming.
My Literary ability or lack thereof is not currently the topic under discussion.
For all you know I might be Illiterate, Blind, Dyslexic, Irish, or all of the above.
Secondly: if you wish to measure performance from the start to the finish of a ten second period, with all abilities fully-recharged, then Footstomp will indeed be up twice as Bill just proved it recharges in about seven seconds on a typical build. After the second time it will simply not have completely finished recharging before the ten seconds are up.
Thirdly: I believe this is currently a discussion about farming potential, meaning consistent AOE damage output... not maximum spike AOE damage output once-every-30-seconds. Of course Build Up is going to equal the performance of a Single-Stacked Rage over a ten second period. But after that, Build Up runs out and Rage keeps on going. And Going. And Going. And ends up passing itself again on the next lap. -
Wow.. that's pretty amazing.
Ok so clearly SS/Fire is not as great as everyone thinks it is. Forget about using any attack outside of the primary and SS starts to look even worse. You need burn and another epics pool to make it viable as I said before. There are other primary's that work better out of the box than SS at much earlier levels. You have to wait till later on to get FS and add the much needed epics to make ss/fire usable. Late bloomer.
Maybe I will fire up my claws/SR and take a look.
Quote:SS: Foot stomp: rec-red needed to get it down to 5 seconds for 2 stomps per 10 seconds: Base recharge is 20sec.
5 = 20 / 1+X
5 + 5x = 20
x = 3 300% global recharge needed in footstomp. Yea, that ain't happening.
How about 7 seconds? 186% recharge needed, yea, that's completely doable.
So FS fires off every 7 seconds on a decent build.
It does 59.23 smashing damage (highly resisted) at base hitting up to 10 enemies.
75% fury is the new baseline. That's 150% damage buff. Double stacked rage adds another 160%. (Note: for it to double stack, it has to fire off every 60 seconds. This means after every 60 seconds, there's a 10 second dead period. 1/7th of the time, the brute will deal 0 damage with foot stomp.
Amount of damage the SS user now dishes out IF it hits all 10 targets and assuming you've also managed to get 95% worth of damage enhancement slotted:
59.23 * 1+.95+1.5+1.6 * 10 = 2991 points of damage pushed out. But we have to account for the rage crash: 2991*6/7 = 2564 total damage every 7 seconds
Raged-Furied-Fully slotted foot stomp DPS = 366
I don't know crap about electric melee, so I'm not going there. But I will do claws cuz that I know.
I use followup, eviscerate, spin as my aoe chain. I won't even bother with FU's damage, but I will consider its double stacked buff of 60% on a brute.
Spin does 78.83 lethal, also up to 10 enemies.
Eviscerate does 90.96 lethal, but only to up to 5.
The total animation time of the chain is less than 7 seconds, but we'll call it 7 for the hell of it.
150% from fury, 95% from enhancement, 60% from followup, against target cap.
Spin: 78.83 * 1+1.5+.95+.6 * 10 = 3193 damage
Eviscerate: 90.96 * 1+1.5+.95+.6 * 5 = 1842 damage
Total damage dealt in 7 seconds is 5035 or 719 DPS
719 versus 366.
Looks like claws kicks the crap out of super strength on AoE output.
But does this show the whole story?
Nope. Foot stomp's radius is much large than spin's. It has an easier time affecting 10 enemies at a time. However, this is often grossly overstated by the proponents of SS.
This also ignored aoes taken from the APP/PPPs which any good farmer would. Foot Stomp + Fireball or Foot Stomp + Ball Lightning + Elec Fences is certainly going to bring the SS farmer much closer to the claws user. Of course, the claws user can go get those as well, can't he? Sadly for him, he will have to suffer through redraw issues.
The electric melee user won't.
EDIT: Yea, I ignored fiery embrace. It's proc damage. Slap it on top if ya like, but it's going to benefit those using more aoes in a given time period than those using less. -
You don't know how to read. 10 seconds! ten second attack! Start from 0. Also I am not assuming anything. My build has buildup back about 1 second before LR is back.
And no Footstomp is not up 2x in ten seconds.. even if it was it's still not going to equal the elec dmg output in 10 seconds.
Quote:Three things are wrong with that.
(i) You are assuming that Build Up and Lightning Rod will both be available for every spawn.
(ii) You are assuming that only a single instance of Rage is running. Rage can be stacked.
(iii) You fail to account for the fact that even with just SOs and Hasten, Footstomp is up TWICE in a ten second period.
(OK... technically four things. You said "CS", when I assume you mean "CI"...)
Build Up and LR's recharge can be brought down to a little under 30 seconds or so with a reasonable investment into Global Recharge set bonuses, plus Hasten. When discussing farming, if it takes a toon 30 seconds to finish off a group and move to the next one, that's rather slow going. My Spines/DA Scrapper, who is not optimised for farming, typically takes 10-15 seconds for each large spawn. -
Yes.. yes your math.. whatever that is. I don't act as you say.. but let me type you then. You are just another of the ss/fire zombies and I have seen many people like you... to many... which makes you moot becasue I know what you are going to post before you post it.
Using Just SS how much aoe dmg can you do in ten seconds? Don't bother with Fury but only what can be done in 10 seconds with the SS primary alone. What is your DMG total?
For example with elec I can do
Buildup/LR/TS/CS
SS can do this
Rage/FS
I think if anyone looks at mids they can say that elec does more aoe dmg in 10 seconds than SS does.
Now whats wrong with that?
Quote:You're making claims with no mathematical evidence, which makes them moot. Show us the numbers and we'll prove you wrong with math of our own.
Also, I've been hanging out on these boards a long time. I've seen many people, like yourself act belligerently and get sat down with simple fact and a side of proof. That's how this turn of events will inevitably die.
Good hunting. -
With hasten on you can get burn under 10 seconds.. why is that so hard to believe? With the force feedback+ rech you get even faster. Its about 8 seconds and comes in at about 6 seconds at times. Ya my recharge is about 210 at peak.
It does not matter what you post becasue your math is still wrong. What I said has happened before and does happen. Yes I think you should not just trust in your math skillzzz.
Quote:Burn can do some huge damage to bosses. If the game decides that they will be one of the 5 hit with the front loaded damage. But lets pretend that you get lucky, every single time and the bosses get hit with burn for the full damage. That puts burn at around 650 damage with FE and BU and a full fury bar. Also if you manage to get the bosses in the high damage portion of LR they will take around 890 damage.
So far that is about 1540 damage to the boss, pretty decnet. At this point you claim that only the bosses are left and you only need one more burn (1540 + 650 =2190) and a thunderstrike (2190 + 540 =2730) to finish them off. I am assuming you have blazing aura on as well so that would be about 30 dps added to this and the chan you provided last right about 10 seconds for an extra 300. Ill even assume you have the 230% ish recharge to get burn to cast 2 times in 10 seconds as well. (I do so it is within the realm of reality) Grand total of 3030 damage. And this is assuming 100% hit rate, even though 54 mobs are much harder to hit.
Level 54 bosses have 1730 hp but wait. Fighting +4 mobs means you are only 48% effective due to the purple patch. So even if they had no resistance to your damage type, you would only do 1454.4 damage. Sorry but once again you are lying to make your favorite set seem better than it is.
Video or it didn't happen. Oh and we are still waiting on the 2:30 1500 ticket video. -
I am not mad at all.. you guys tell eveyone that this is the best AOE combo in the game and it simply is not true. I don't need reds to be a quick killer(but you do) and I don't need rage to waste an entire spawn of lvl 54 baddies in less than 15 seconds(but you do). Go build a real farmer and see for yourself. Can you imagine what it would be like if I popped reds like you did???
Why would I let you guys lead someone in the wrong direction? That;s all nothing more nothing less.
Quote:Why are you so mad? The OP asked what Brute has the best AoE damage and we answered. Why would we give them a wrong answer? We're not saying Elec/Fire is terrible or anything, far from it, just that SS/Fire is indeed a little better when it comes to AoE damage. That's all, nothing more, nothing less. -
I would not assume anything. I have never played wow in my life. I could not tell you the first thing about the game.. why would you even say such a silly thing anyway. Its pretty clear from your tone that you don't know what you are talking about.
I think Elec fire is pretty good and I think it is the best in the game.
When you can take down 54's with FieryEmbrace/Burn/buildup/LR and the whole first wave is dead but for the bosses who need one more burn and thunderstrike I think that says enough. Thats about 30 seconds and LR is back up if needed. AND NO REDS NEEDED FOR THAT
Ya I see no reason to waste time with SS and rage crash.
Quote:It's pretty clear from the tone of your post that you were once a WoW player who was active in the forum community.
SS has the best AoE in the game, and the combination of foot stomp and rage (even more so with double rage) is devastating. Double raged it eclipses the damage of FSC IIRC with twice the range. The new (old) burn makes the combo even more incredible.
While Elec has one true AoE that isn't affected by fury, and several pseudo AoE's like chain induction, who's initial hit is affected by fury but none of the jumps are, and jacob's ladder which IIRC only affects 5 targets. Not to say Elec has no place, it's a fun set with a lot of multitarget abilities. None of them however are superior to foot stomp and rage, let alone double rage.
Matter of fact, isn't claws a better set for AoE than Elec? Simply based on the fact that it's T9 is affected by fury would be enough do choose it over the other for me.
Good hunting. -
Oh fine you guys are right.. I hope everyone chooses ss/fire cause that would be awesome. I hope every server fills with that exact build since there is really no other sensible choice. I mean you would be dumb not to use these types right?
