Now that I'm playing Kheldians, I'm really not looking forward to having my hit points drop to blaster levels. Right now, I have a lot of hit points...sure, solo or on a small team, that's offset by the resistance debuff. But on a larger team, I really feel the survivability difference.
I feel like - if it's necessary to have blaster hit points as a consequence of losing the resistance debuff, that maybe this is one of those short term changes that will make some people happy, but ultimately hurt the AT's performance in the long run. -

hmmmm you better pray for an update! Cuz all the accolades in paragon city are not gonna stop me from vaporizing a well-slotted PB or WS in the arena! Let me say that from my perspective as of now Kheldians are lame and the most likely to book it without a word when things get hot...
[/ QUOTE ]
When things get hot, I often blast the evil into prison. I never quit a team without an explanation, and never because things are a bit tough. if things get too tough, I'll say so, and suggest teammates that might help, or suggest trying some other time.
What's with the ad hominem directed at people simply for playing Kheldians in this thread? -
[ QUOTE ]
Perhaps they can give OTHER players awesome defense, but they sure don't have any themselves. I've never seen a Defender herding mobs before.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have heard of such a thing. Storm, especially.
Defenders have buffs and debuffs. Some defenders have powers that, because of their nature, work great as defense for everyone, including the defender. -
[ QUOTE ]
Now, I'll tell you what will really disappoint me. They say they are adding a sonic weapon power set and a staff powerset. I'll lay 10 to 1 odds I wont see a bowel disruptor, or The Chair Leg of Truth in either one. Sad.
[/ QUOTE ]
That makes me very sad. On both counts.
I do, however, give you five stars for both references. -
[ QUOTE ]
These arguments about what it "true" anime and what isn't remind me of relgious wars. And not the good stuff about religious wars either, only the bad stuff.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure if you're responding to my post, as my post has nothing to do with "what is true anime and what is not." In fact, I'm pretty sure no post in this thread covers that topic.
My own post was an expression of disbelief that the inclusion of anime elements in City of Heroes would somehow turn it into an anime game. -
[ QUOTE ]
Wow what an absolutely hateful reply.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not much hate there. Disdain? Sure. Lack of respect for your position? Loads. A basic belief that everything you say indicates both a lack of awareness of what anime and manga are and a willingness to aggressively promote your ignorance? Absolutely.
[ QUOTE ]
I'm the troll though. Don't forget. I'm the one making confrontational statements and trolling.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't say that, but now that you mention it, I would say you've been trollish.
[ QUOTE ]
Irony at its fullest.
[/ QUOTE ]
Even if I did say anything trollish - which I did not - I did not accuse you of trolling. Even if I did, and I posted something trollish, that would not be ironic.
[ QUOTE ]
I'm glad you like anime. I don't have much use for it. I've seen some series that I like...I've seen others that I don't.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now here's a wacky generalization. I like some series that I've seen, and I don't like others that I've seen. I can tell the difference between a product, a medium, and a genre.
[ QUOTE ]
If I wanted to play an anime game I'd play Ragnarok Online. I'm not down on it because its alien. I'm down on it because it adds nothing to this game in my opinion.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because the only things that should ever be added to the game are things you personally want to use. Also, the addition of elements influenced by something necessarily means that the game then becomes that something. You're committing some kind of fallacy of contamination here. Having costume elements inspired by some anime characters won't make City of Heroes an anime-inspired game, and won't make all the characters into anime-inspired characters. We already have anime-inspired and direct ripoff characters running around. I saw clones from Dragonball Z and Inuyasha On my very first day playing this game. You're taking the addition of new elements and inflating the consequence to "It will change the very character of the game!" and then expecting anyone to take you at all seriously.
[ QUOTE ]
Like I need more half naked school girls and cat girls running around in the game. I've already got enough of those to make me literally ill considering the fact that I know pretty much all of them are men. This is somehow a positive thing?
[/ QUOTE ]
Which? Making you ill? Conflating schoolgirls and catgirls with all anime ever? Worrying needlessly about whether female characters are played by men?
The ability to have more costume variety? Yes, it's a good thing. People playing catgirls? Yes, that's a good thing if they're having fun. Men playing female characters? Great. It's better than the jerk hackers who whine about it happening at all.
Also, the only schoolgirl I have ever teamed with (Katana/SR scrapper) actually was played by a straight woman. One of the two or three catgirl characters I have ever teamed with is played by a [censored] man. I doubt either was doing it to get any jollies.
[ QUOTE ]
Maybe to you. And I'm not saying you're predisposed to furries and carefully androgenous sexy heros either. I don't presume to know you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, at this stage I'm pretty well-disposed to anything that'll make you feel ill, given your rundown of what makes you feel ill.
[ QUOTE ]
But you sure seem to have no problem doing that to me.
[/ QUOTE ]
I only presume to go by what you've posted in this very thread.
[ QUOTE ]
You are a hateful person Kali. You've never said anything nice in response to anything I've posted. You take disagreement personally. And I'd appreciate it if you just kept out of my posts from here on out.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yay, obligatory ad hominem.
I don't even remember having any conversations with you before. Are you sure you're not thinking of someone else?
Anyway, no, I have no plans to censor my reactions. If you keep posting the stupid, I'll keep saying, "Hey, you're posting the stupid."
[ QUOTE ]
Abuse is not a right.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not abusing you. You're just being hysterical. -
[ QUOTE ]
"Way to go, guys... you broke Tenma. I hope you're all happy."
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, the "kill skuls" thing is harmless memetic fun. Getting worked up over it is just...yeah, I admit, I'm happy. -
[ QUOTE ]
Two words:
Kill Skuls.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which issue is this going to be? -
[ QUOTE ]
Speaking of inside jokes... WHAT IS WITH THAT KILL SKULS STUFF?
[/ QUOTE ]
Go. Hunt. Kill Skuls.
Then you'll understand. -

Freaks discussing recent events in story arc named Rosen
and Stern (after Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, two characters from Shakespeare's "Hamlet"...or, possibly, more recently, from the Tom Stoppard film "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead")
[/ QUOTE ]
They're Rikti named Rozen and Stren. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I once encountered a pair of Rikti who were commenting on recent events in the story arc - Rozen and Stren.
[/ QUOTE ]
I stumbled across these two last night. It's a good thing I was stealthed, because I was laughing too hard to fight for a bit.
By the way...Rozen and Stren are dead.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't have the heart to fight them.
I even walked all the way back to the entrance with them fruitlessly slashing at me with their swords. -
[ QUOTE ]
How about we also go the other way with references.
Watched "Sky Captain..." the other day. There was a large sign for Kings Row and the symbol on the robots is nearly identical to the 5th Column insignia (at least in my memory, can't actually check anymore).
Edit: Oh and Franky's Skyraider jetpack.
[/ QUOTE ]
Kings Row. -

[ QUOTE ]
You can believe me if you like. I have nothing to gain or lose by covinving you or not. I'm perfectly calm myself, because I KNOW CoV will not steal from CoH's developement. Maybe just Statesman's post would somewhat decreas.
Honestly, I was expecting that was something everybody knew.
[/ QUOTE ]
Believing you is at odds with the carefully cultivated victim mentality that equates adding new anime/manga-inspired costume options with something nobody wanted.
I don't care if some people are so insular in their fandom that the idea of contamination from another vector makes them feel sad inside. I do find it sad that so many are willing to make demonstrably wrong generalizations about anime or manga as if eith were a genre and not a medium, and base these statements on maybe - if you're lucky - two or three dubbed/edited for US release anime series.
I submit that the primary reason most of the naysayers are saying nay is not the quality of the source material, it's that the source material is alien to them.
For the record, my avatar comes from City of Heroes. I, for one, welcome our new anime costume overlords. -
That it went live after Statesman agreed it was too much: Bad.
The likelihood that it will remain this way: Low. -

[ QUOTE ]
The changes were rolled back. They have been for over a day, right? But you know what? I had a bad story to tell about this too.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was not aware of this, they certainly were still in effect when I was on. I'll have to log later on (when I get back from the lab) and check it out.
[/ QUOTE ]
They weren't rolled back last night, at least. -
[ QUOTE ]
Ack, don't nerf the new bosses! They're awesome.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, boss fights now are a battle of "can I put down this boss before my blue bar expires" or "can I put down this boss before it hits me and takes me out in one shot" depending upon your AT and build. -
[ QUOTE ]
It's just another step towards forced grouping.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, it's exactly the opposite. Instead of putting sticks into the game to punish you for not grouping, it's putting carrots into the game to reward you for grouping. Boosted XP awards on teams should have no effect on soloing. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Team up XP bonuses will be increased.
[/ QUOTE ]
No offense, I like your other ideas - but this is completely insane.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why? People feel discouraged from large teams because the XP is lower (or they feel it is). -
[ QUOTE ]
Which you could have EASILY accomlished by allowed just that: dropping a mish if you don't like it or it's too hard and you don't have time. Rolling back the Boss changes is exactly caving into whiners. And I don't play a tanker, I play one of the most gimped scrappers in the game.Caves to whiners. With U 4 can we have a new mob The Whiners, that not even the Dev's can defeat?
[/ QUOTE ]
To be fair, dark armor doesn't have a huge problem with most bosses - on Live, I can take on Ring Mistresses, Master Illusionists, Chief Soldiers, Chief Mentalists, Fake Nemeses, War Hulks, Zeus Titans, whatever Knife bosses are called, Gunslingers, and, well, just about every boss in the 40s, without too much risk. Dark Armor, as comparatively weak as it is, is still a great set for soloing compared to no defense at all.
Also, I find it hard to respect complaints about whiners, and the statement that people who can't handle the tougher bosses should just skip content. You can always turn the difficulty slider up to Invincible for the challenge, and others can avoid the challenge if they're not up for it. Why make the game accessible only to a few? That's a great way to chase off customers.
Also, most of the posts about boss difficulty were far from whining, although I know we're going to get a lot of whining about rolling back boss difficulty. -
Thank you for the update - it's really appreciated, and I'm glad that things are going this way.
A part of me will be sad that the tougher bosses are going, as I've adjusted to them. On the other hand, I realize that I play scrappers designed to tear bosses apart, and I agree that everyone should be able to log in for 30 minutes or so to do a mission or two.
When this stuff was on test, I was all for rolling it back. I'm glad the feedback was heard. -
[ QUOTE ]
If things are going to change, then why not demmand some new changes that benefit ALL of our playstyles instead of demmanding a return to the same old crusty stuff we've already done way too much of.
[/ QUOTE ]
For what it's worth, I never championed the way things have been as being the best way for them to be. I have indicated the game is too easy from 25+, and I have indicated that I liked the addition of +1 enemies in missions from 25+, and wish they hadn't also appeared before 25. I have also indicated that I don't feel that the bosses accomplish what the devs wanted - people who could solo bosses before still can, and people who had trouble are mostly out of luck.
Right now, bosses are not significantly harder for my DM/DA scrapper to deal with than they were before issue 3, but it's so much fun watching my teammates who happen to be controllers, defenders, and blasters get one-shotted from sheer bad luck. -
[ QUOTE ]
I got a question for ya Kali, since you're making such a "strong" showing here on the point....
[/ QUOTE ]
I really don't have time or sympathy for people who start going off about how it's a "multiplayer game" so we should be willing to deal with being forced to "team up." The manual and the devs do not berate people for wanting to solo and for missing the point of the game, after all.
I have no idea what your comments about arrogance and humble roles relate to, but I do recall you once saying that people who prefer to solo are mentally unstable... Should I take your comments in that light?
My interest is in the game being fun, and the new bosses are only fun for some people - not coincidentally, the people playing builds that are already optimized for soloing. -
Thank you - I received the impression that this was the state of affairs from a previous post of yours, but it's good to just have a "things are moving along" statement.
-

[ QUOTE ]
You're asking the developers to change the fundamental design of the game, a design they are only now reaching. I doubt you will succeed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why not? This game was wildly successful even without that "vision" being realized, and it's not as if rolling the changes back would negate any longstanding status quo.
[/ QUOTE ]
Lothart likes to preach the "3 white minions = challenging fight for one hero" statement Statesman made. While he may not directly admit it, I think such a prospect overjoys him.
