And as you get to know the mobs, you'll find that some of the attacks that are broadcast aren't really dangerous enough to worry about blocking, although this is more of a thing in the lower levels.

Fire/Energy is like one of the strongest (not the strongest, but close) powerset combinations for blasters.
Blasters weren't fine. Some blasters were great, some were good, some were okay, but all were limited in ways that other ATs were not. Individuals may have had a great time with their blasters - I know I enjoyed the heck out of my Ice/Energy - but the overall trend was that blasters tended to level slower and get more debt.
I mean, per your example, I played a Kheldian to 39 with hardly any deaths by quantum gunners back when they had unresistable damage. I even tanked a void hunter lieutenant once. Part of this was that I had, at one point, actually memorized where on each map quantums would spawn and they rarely caught me by surprise. But this didn't mean quantum gunners and void hunters weren't a problem for Kheldians or that Kheldians themselves were "fine." It just meant I adapted to the fact that every mission would have kryptonite for me. -

Quote:That's a good effort, but I think Liefield tends toward tiny or obscured feet because he can't draw them. That sounds like it would push even our character creator to the limit. Small head, large hands, big feet, inflated chest, covered in pouches and buckles.
Also, there's no way to give someone a million teeth. -
Quote:I do get how this goes. It's frustrating.I don't need inspiration, I need just the right traditional kung fu outfit. With long sleeves and those horizontal laces/frog buttons down the front. And preferably a contrasting border. It's unfortunate, because between the various textures and sliders I can get his face pretty close in this game (with bigger eyebrows that don't meet in the middle and a lip-slider to thin the lips a bit it would be nearly perfect).

Oh:
For the first CoV beta PVP event in Bloody Bay, the devs told us that we'd be leveled to 15.
I looked at the stalker defense sets and saw that only one of the four sets (ninjitsu, dark armor, regeneration, and energy aura) provided status protection prior to level 16 - Dark Armor, with Obsidian Shield at 10.
So I made an AR/Dev blaster and made sure to have beanbag, taser, and targeting drone.
I then spent much of the event dropping caltrops and stuns on stalkers. I remember that Hide would work on police drones, so some would go into the helicopter to catch people on their way into the zone, and one beanbag and the drones would zap them.
My understanding is that my tactics had a lot of people focused on taking me out. I remember they set up an ambush with an ice/cold corruptor and actually got me once. Anyway, I was told later that apparently my tactics were causing a stir on villain broadcast. -

Did you check the default costumes for the Fist and Master archetypes? Those might be inspirational.

It's not only a game, though. It's a community and that seems to be what hits people harder. With SWG I actually disliked everything I heard about the game, but my WoW guild started up after SWG died and many there were still upset about it to some degree even this past year (had a talk about it in TOR).
As far as games, I have plenty of games to play. Only one CoH community, however.
Quote:I did report clones....and well...I sometimes made them...though I tried to be obscure as possible.
My favorite heroine was Mary Marvel, so I made an evil Mary dressed in black named Teth-Mary. Never got caught (amalgam of Black Adam and Mary Marvel) -
I didn't report clones.
I didn't understand why so many people who played SWG were upset about it being shut down until August 31. -
Quote:They've added a lot of tights options in the store, which helps a lot. But yeah, I think CoH does the classic spandex look better.Pretty sure CO's celestial armor pieces predate CoH's. In any case, CO's always had a seeming bias towards armored/mech looks, and actually I think CoH has moved in that direction over the last coupla years.
So-called normal heroes look better here, though, IMO.
And as far as it goes, I wish CO had more of CoH's costume sets because it's complicating my attempts to remake CoH characters in the game. Most of them end up being reinterpretations, at least visually. It's not a problem, but it could be better. -
Quote:I am fairly certain the celestial armor in CO predates the celestial armor in CoH by quite a bitYeah. BLOCK. Which.....I'm still going WTF about. It's like.....they wanted to make it as different as they could and harder!!
Also...I've noticed that just about every costume piece is a direct port from here. They've got -celestial armor- pieces, for crapton's sake!!
Oh. And just passed by a billboard earlier that could've come STRAIGHT from this game except the name "Chris Jenkins" isn't on it.
It's a shoddy copy.....but...it might very well be all there is for a long time.
The block thing isn't just to be different - it is part of the process of making combat more active, similar to shifting endurance from a passive resource to be used and slowly recovered to something you manage more actively by recovering with your energy builder, block, and energy unlock. It also provides more leeway in terms of mob difficulty by giving players the means to control incoming damage and protect themselves from most status effects. -
Quote:That has to sting.I used to love being a superhero, and then I took an arrow to the Id.
It was kind of gloriously fun for a little bit. And then nothing was a challenge, at least in the world or personal instances. Still had trouble in lairs. -

Was that Ascendant on the phone?
I think I saw someone I used to team with on Champion as well. Or at least someone who looked a lot like him. I kind of regret missing it, but there was a Champion server thing at the same time. -

Quote:I've actually wondered about this for the longest time.I'm the guy who broke the NDA about ED. I suppose you could also pin the forums' ultimate implosion on that. I'm not sorry; I was answering to a higher power.
However, I was never allowed into any other betas for the last 7 years, so I was properly punished.
Now I know. -
As far as it goes:
The people in the CO channel are wonderful. I was on today, but I missed Trailturtle because I was focused on leveling.
The people on the forum are quite helpful.
The game is fun. The combat system is different, but blocking isn't really a bad thing, nor indicative of a flaw when a character has to block a powerful attack. It may not be to everyone's taste, though.
The game has changed significantly since launch and the first patch. Passive defenses are usable again, many offensive passives are actually fairly useful and provide a degree of defense. Many powersets have been filled out to make certain options more viable - Power armor now has a few more energy sword attacks, for example.
It's not for everyone, and it is not as polished as City of Heroes. It is not, however, a bad game nor a bad community. It does have its elements, but so does CoH. -
Quote:Yeah, that just about covers it. My experience with CO is similar, and I have a lot of fun with it when I play it. I don't see these games as being something that one has to swear eternal loyalty to, and when people talk that way I mostly just want to back away and hope their delusions distract them before they notice me again.I played CO at launch, played a month now and again since, and always ended up coming back to CoH, and I still won't "admit" that CO sucks. It doesn't. I think CoH is the superior game, at least to my tastes; CO has its warts, just as every game does (including CoH), but there's still plenty there to enjoy, and the players there legitimately enjoy it more than any other game.
Also, nobody in any game I have ever played actually cares whether or not you "jumped ship" for a while. The Account Management page has never had an "admit that all other games suck and leaving was a mistake" step for resubscription.
Every MMO's community thinks their game is the best. Having been in a dozen or so, I'm not sure any of them are wrong. They just all have different criteria for "best". -
Quote:I had this problem linking PWE and Cryptic accounts. What ended up working was linking the two via STO rather than CO. I have never even played STO, so I have no idea what that was about. But it worked, finally.Giving CO another try. Almost.
After downloading the 3Gbyte installation, but then the 1.2 Gbyte patch, I finally get it running. I have two screens but the cursor is limited to one, unlike CoH. Anyway, I have a lifetime sub on Cryptic, but I have to create a "PWE" login, I do, i login, but it doesn't link to Cryptic, so then I try to link it to the Cryptic login, but it says my email address is already being used (yes, the two accounts use that email address).
I sent an email to support and they got back to me just two days later (that's the good bit) giving me instructions to do what I'd already done. But in case they did something I'll give it another shot when I get home tonight.
Meanwhile, I tried to play. I got in once with my PWE account, when I realised it wasn't connected to my Cryptic account, but since then every attempt to connect to either server gives me "server timed out" after quite a while. It appears to be unplayable. -
You're trying to reason with someone whose reflexive reaction to any MMO other than CoH is to make insulting generalizations about the devs, players, and game.
-
Quote:This is probably 100% wrong.Because a portion of their community jumped ship from CoH to CO and didn't have the nerve to admit how much Champions sucks and return so now feel guilty that their stupid pride contributed to the downfall of this game and their now stuck with CO or worse DCUO.

Quote:You can also use block and pick up an energy unlock that synergizes with your other powers to get endurance.Well, they were pretty much autoattacks once I figured that out.
Made me feel annoyed that I had to autoattack a lot to use real powers.
Also, it only takes a few seconds to rebuild endurance with the energy builder.
