I'm not even really sure why I'm getting so defensive over the two Korean threads. I've only been in my mother's country twice, and I've lived in the freakin' US pretty much all my life.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's bothering me, too, because the overall tone is just plain awful.
I'm not Korean, but two of my cousins were born there. -

Eh, the concept of avatars isn't one that shows up in Greek Mythology, and the gods did tend to get their hands dirty much of the time. There's this weird modern Western barrier to the idea of a god in a work of fiction actually being fallible and directly involved in events, but that's the whole point of Greek mythology.
That said, I don't think that Statesman is a god.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey, speak for yourself, KaliMagdalene!
I think Statesman's a god! A wise and benevolent god. A god who'd never seek retribution against some lowly player like me for saying he wasn't a god. A god who'd take no notice of a little insect like me in his wonderful world! All hail Statesman!
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you for the balanced perspective, Malcolm. -

So, if Statesman is a Greek God or Titan
[/ QUOTE ]
I would say he's more of a diety's avatar rather than being a quote/unquote "god" himself.

No they glow red JUST like an energy melee tanker every time he punches. In the CoH trailer. In the CoV trailer. That's Energy Melee. I don't understand how the BAB would be a black, dreadlocked, INV/EM tanker, then a white, spikey-haired, INV/SS tanker. Icon can't change your power set.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Back Alley Brawler is white?
What?
Are you high?
I swear, whenever I see him in Galaxy City, my brain interprets him as black. I'm not sure how to interpret him as white. -

Should be quite curious as to what rule system you have used with this PvP RPG.
I still think HERO 5th edition is the way to go though... 10 years of Champions revisions, updates and fine tuning makes for the BEST PnP system out there.
Besides there is NOTHING like rolling 20D6 when you are about to splat a hero with a uber power Energy Blast!
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe that the CoH RPG will use Eden's Unisystem mechanics, as also seen in All Flesh Must Be Eaten, Witchcraft/Armageddon, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Angel.
There's an ape RPG in there as well, I'm sure of it. -

So I was on with my SG on Champion a while ago, and we were doing the Positron TF. At one point, we were ambush right in front of Positron and Valkyrie. So here's all these guys shooting at us, trying to kill us, and Mr. Bigshot "I got my armor upgraded" and Ms. "I have this fancy spear that none of you can get!" are just kinda standing there watching.
THANKS A LOT, LEGENDARY HEROES!
Seriously, though, it would be cool if the trainers got some sort of automated power similar to the police drones. There's just something wrong about the eight most famous heroes in all of Paragon city standing there watching you get pounded on.
[/ QUOTE ]
All that crap is grey to me, no XP.
[/ QUOTE ]
This whole scenario has been an old joke in my SG ever since that specific ambush got us the first time back in June...
...but this is the best answer ever. -
Don't get me wrong - the damage is worthwhile, but there's just not enough ranged damage there to threaten anyone's role.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Bingo, and they get eye lasers, are we officially the only AT without Eye lasers yet, or do Controllers still not have them?
[/ QUOTE ]
Controllers have no eye lasers. And I'm with you on this one - I long ago said that blasters need an eye laser blast, and I stand by that assessment. What's the point of having a ranged damage AT if they don't have friggin' lasers shooting out of their eyes? -
[ QUOTE ]
THEY GET CRITICALS ON THEIR RANGED ATTACKS?
:'( omg I'm going to go hang my blaster now...
he'll get less debt if he stays dead...
So... then what you're telling me SCRAPPERS can "deal a ton of dmg at range" cuz build up, fire blast (if they get it) then a critical...
[/ QUOTE ]
I think my 50th level scrapper does 150 damage or so with six-slotted LBE. That's less than 4-slotted Smite.
Scrappers don't do a lot of ranged damage with EPPs. -
[ QUOTE ]
Actually, considering what was wrong with that internal server, wouldn't it STILL have been showing us as weaker than the rest?
Offense stays effectively the same [# of hits/target stays the same, matter of fact it stays the same despite conning] and defense just simply jacked up for everyone versus higher mobs...
In other words, We'd still have been outranged, outgunned, etc compared to others...
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, I meant when they were testing the game in alpha. I strongly suspect that in a lot of ways, the current game simply does not resemble what they were testing way back in those ancient stone age days. The game as it exists now wouldn't break if you had range/control or range/defense the way it might have with less vicious villains way back when.
I didn't intend to refer to the broken test environment that recently came to light. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
that matters. statesman has range on the brain. he thinks it MEAN'S
something.
[/ QUOTE ]
My current theory is that either that states et al completely underestimated the power of defenses, or that the confused AoE with Range. AFAICT those are the only plausible explanations that I can come up with for the current situation.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or the testing environment in which range + defense and range + control were overpowered bears little resemblance to the game as it exists now. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, that's true...keep forgetting that -Res also makes you more vulnerable instead of just taking away any +RES that you have. I guess I would change -Res to only take away positive resistance...in other words -REgen doesn't make you start losing health. More -REs would be bad for blasters more so than defenders...unless that changed it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have seen a pack of Ascendents completely shred an invulnerable scrapper once. They also started tearing me apart in nova form, and when I switched to dwarf, there was a brief pause, and then they started tearing me apart again. -
[ QUOTE ]
I think one thing that does need to be added is giving more minions -Regen and -Res powers. This really only hurt scrappers and tanks...it increases their need for fast minion killing and creates a love and desire for blasters.
worth a try anyways...
[/ QUOTE ]
Let an ascendant shoot at your defender or blaster for a bit and see what happens... -
[ QUOTE ]
Remember, not all blasters have (effective) AoE attacks. They can't be treated equally. My one Elec AoE one serves to get the attention of a crowd--it doesn't hurt them much at all.
That's the problem with comparing ATs--you can't simply compare A to B: Powersets make all the difference.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, let's take Ice... In general, with my scrappers, I simply can't keep up with ice's killing speed. It has fast animations and does a lot of damage to single targets. Frost Breath does a decent amount of damage as well. I've seen Ice drop a boss in the time it would take me to get that boss to half health...after criticals were added.
It's not just AoE, it's also that some blaster sets have fast-cycling, fast-animating attacks. Mind you, I don't think there's anything wrong with blaster damage in that regard, and wouldn't argue with a moderate increase (as I pointed out). The problem blasters seem to have more than damage is survivability. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Boost their damage some? Sure. Boost it enough so they can one- or two-shot anything up to bosses? Please, god, no. I'd never team with a blaster again.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just to counterpoint this: my best attack is my Zapp, with a 3 second activation time. You you know how may times this attack hit's nothing per day because the scapper/tank has taken down the whole mob before I can lock a clean target and fire the shot? Don't blasters deserve some of the fun, too?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not nearly as often as the blaster's taken out multiple targets right as I execute an attack on the now-corpse. -
[ QUOTE ]
So what's your creative solution then? Most Blaster really do feel underpowered and the most likely to die. Refering to someone else's exagerated post doesn't make a very good arguement.
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe the quote I was specifically thinking of is "Blasters should one-shot even-level bosses with aim + build up + snipe." At least, that's a paraphrase of the quote.
[ QUOTE ]
I'm putting you on the spot, but I don't mean to put you on the defensive. I really do want to know what you think.
[/ QUOTE ]
Reduce aggro generated by blaster attacks so it's harder to take it from tankers.
Give them a moderate damage boost so that there's no question they're dealing more damage than scrappers except against bosses (about 10% or so).
Revamp the secondaries to give them more tools to survive at range.
I would also add:
Cut way back on the villain mezzing. It's over the top and simply reinforces the defensive gap between melee and ranged characters. -
[ QUOTE ]
Can you just smack stateman with a rolled up newspaper until he gets the point that we are not at less risk then scrappers (they have defences to deal with where they are, that has been PROVEN), and that we should be the "Offencive Juggernauts," of the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Giving blasters a lot more damage would be game-breaking. I mean, if you really don't want ATs outside of blasters and tankers to have a point, then sure... Change the game so it's not so murderous to blasters, so that the risk is appropriate. Boost their damage some? Sure. Boost it enough so they can one- or two-shot anything up to bosses? Please, god, no. I'd never team with a blaster again.
I know you didn't advocate that much, Orochi, but I have seen other people advocate up to and including one-shotting bosses. -

The only AT that has never had a player post a screenshot or video of soloing an AV happens to be blasters.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you sure? Back during the Smoke Grenade/Caltrops bugfest, it would surprise me if a few Blasters didn't manage to solo AV's at various times. Heck, with Caltrops functioning as an unresistable hold right there in the beginning, an AV would be a cakewalk. Certainly nothing recent, though, Blasters just don't have the tools any more. Not that anybody should have the tools, but Blasters are conspicuous by the lack.
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe that at least one blaster posted about floorign an AV's chances to hit him - not sure which AV, though, or if he actually defeated it. There were no screenshots, demos, or videos of it, however. I believe the first video/demo of anyone soloing an AV was Confessor against Chimera. -

You're mirroring what you're complaining about to a "T"
[/ QUOTE ]
Could it be... someone finally caught on to what I've been doing?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, sure, but what do you expect to accomplish? -
[ QUOTE ]
The only other powersets I can think of that can actually do enough damage and take enough damage to solo an AV is illusion and fire controllers.
[/ QUOTE ]
I guess you missed the Inv/EM and Inv/SS tankers (and I think an Inv/Mace or Stone/Mace) who soloed AVs within the past month. There's also the Storm defender who soloed psychic Babbage and probably a few AVs.
The only AT that has never had a player post a screenshot or video of soloing an AV happens to be blasters. -
[ QUOTE ]
Just because the devs didn't say what you want to hear doesn't mean they didn't show you respect. And with the level of insults, conspiracy theories, and outright lies the vocal minority has provided in the last few weeks, it's you that needs to earn respect at this time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Speaking of the use of hyperbole and hysteria to convince people to not listen to what you're saying... You're mirroring what you're complaining about to a "T", while also exaggerating its occurrence. -
[ QUOTE ]
If this does not make sense to anyone please explain what is confusing and I will try to elaborate.
Mieux is right though, in his assertions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Man, if one of the side effects of adjusting the average power level downward is to cut way back on the mezzing in the game, I'm all for it.
I'm not even against adjusting the average power level downward, as long as the end result is a fairly equitable playing field. -
[ QUOTE ]
First off, Cloak of fear was hit up with the nerf bat because it was overwhelming in pvp. Fear in general is/was just stupidly powerful. Autohit effective sleep that reattaches itself within 2 seconds after being hit with an attack? Wheee. So...it got nailed. Not saying I agree with the change, but...
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not autohit. It has a high accuracy, but it can and often does miss. Also, the pulses come much slower than every two seconds, and suppression applies. Unless the scrapper is standing right next to you, the fear will wear off very quickly and can't be reapplied for 15 seconds.
I've tested all this in the arena. DA's Cloak of Fear is probably the weakest fear power in the arena. -
[ QUOTE ]
AFKing is quite simple for scrappers/tankers.

Not all scrappers and tankers. -

When 5 Hamidon Enhancements does the exact same damage as 4 Hamidon Enhancements, the Blaster damage cap is too low!
* Sniper Rifle, using Dam/Rng HOs. Threw another Dam/Rng in Sniper Rifle without thinking and... whoops!... makes no difference.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seriously? You should need six damage/* HOs to hit the damage cap.
But yeah, I agree it's too low. The reason for scrappers having higher just doesn't play out in the game.
