Just curious - I once took a spring break job (Yeah, a whole week!) working on those, back in...oh god... a year I can't reveal now.

    Spill it.

It had four digits and started with "19"

Since the dev's are chained up working, I thought I would show you where we allow them to play on a short term basis each day.

Photo 1: One of the three mini's cabinets. This one is filled with mostly Warmachine/Hordes (there is a lunch-time tournament going on right now)

Photo 2: The minis table. There are four 4'x4' playing areas set up currently for the WM/H games. (I play Cygnar, and not very well). Behind that is the company foosball table.

    Are those Geo-Hex?

  3. There was an attempt at having AT reps in CoV beta, but it didn't last for various reasons.

Overall, player-side, only good came of that.

Now, back to the design grind... anyone know a good way to pick a handcuff with a mechanical pencil, a Hero Clix, and a poker chip?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Which Clix is it?

Does the mechanical pencil have a plastic or metal clip?

Is it just a generic poker chip, or did it come from a casino?

Do you have any easily distracted co-workers nearby?
  5. You should see the threads about this stuff on the Guild Wars forums...at least we haven't heard of anyone getting their CoH/V account perma-banned for fraudulent use of their own credit cards.

I'd say it really shows just how far Dumb Luck can take a snipey hate-rag

Where's the conventions for PvPOnline, or VGCats, anything for that matter that actually has clever writing?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    There's PAX.

Seriously, if all you can call Penny Arcade is a "snipey hate-rag" you really have no clue what they've been up to. I'll say this much: It's not dumb luck.
  7. Thanks much. At the very least, it's a strong starting point. (adding hover + teleport to the last three powers for Shadow Shard silliness)

Yeah, EG - the sheer number of options really is driving me up the wall. It's better than other dilemmas I can think of, though.

The only thing I don't like about going defense is the need to pick up Weave. Three slots for fighting is a fairly big investment - something I'd only really do if it's possible to skip Fitness (and Health is nice on top of everything else).

I will be sad when +recharge is nerfed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I disown you.

Bah! I thought you mentioned work in your reply, but it's getting late and I misread (so my attempt at humor didn't really make sense). Sorry about that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Your attempt at humor made perfect sense! Its punnish nature required me to disown you!

Sorry that my humor in response didn't come across.

I can't help you from a Spines IO aspect, but you did ask for guides. Evil Geko's is a good place to start (I linked to the Regen half of it, though I wouldn't be surprised if you read it already). He gives some sample IO slotting as well, though it really depends on your build's focus.

The key to IOs, imo, is to pick a few things and try to do those very well. If you spread your focus across too many bonuses, you won't be able to stack them to a very signifigant degree. It's also important to keep in mind which sets you have available to you. (Using generic IOs in certain places can also save you slots elsewhere. For example, putting 2 lvl50 EndMod IOs in QR/Stam will only lose 0.08 eps recovery (CJ is 0.06 eps), but gain 2 slots to put elsewhere.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm... that's good to know. I know that the third stamina IO adds about 10% enhancement, but I didn't realize how small that was.

    [ QUOTE ]
I started to get lengthy and verbose, but I'll be honest, the best way to learn how to utilize IOs is just by playing with them. They're a new puzzle, and you'll only get better at assembling the puzzle by getting your hands dirty. Yes, it's a lot of work, but it's also very rewarding to see it pay off, at least to me.

Again, sorry if I came off as a tard before, it was a joke/tease gone wrong.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, it was a joke/tease gone right. Don't apologize.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I disown you.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
i would try to write one but I can't decide what to do with mine. I know what to do using common IOs and i know how to slot Set IOs to stack a desired effect, but i have no idea what effects I want or how much of them I want. And just using common IOs, Scrappers are so strong that anything I write would boil down to "slot what you want, it's pretty damn hard to [censored] this up now".

that said, what are you looking for in this build? want a common IO one first?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can do the common IOs. It's the sets that get me.

I mean, like, is it better to use a healing set or golgis in Instant Healing and/or Integration? Do the resist set bonuses make it worthwhile to take Resilience? That kind of thing. Is tough/weave an attractive option?

I could probably work all this out with a bit less laziness, I just get a headache looking at Mids when I pick Spines/Regen - or really, any powerset combo now that I've done my defender and scrapper. I'd guess going for +regen and +recharge would probably be a winning start.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
i'm workin on it. spines isn't my forte'

    [/ QUOTE ]

    ZOMG!

Actually, do you still have a /regen guide? Or rather, a current /regen guide? I'm totally at sea with the set these days. I can play my spines/regen fine, but when I look at revising her build, I'm not sure what I should be doing.
  12. Man, no awesome-filled build for me?

Don't I have enough work planning out my dark scrapper and defender?
  13. Stupid_Fanboy, make me a spines/regen build.

    Fill it with awesome.

If there is a way to break the system, the clever and ingenious minds of the Scrapper forum will figure it out.

All because we scrappers (especially us green glowing types) are smart AND good looking.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know, I was just thinking about that... how / why the heck are scrappers - followers of the 6 second rule, inventors (and best implementors) of scrapper-lock, the epitome of whirling dervishes of mass descruction - some of (If not the most) methotical and scientific about game mechanics and build creation.

Ladies and gentlemen, that does not make sense!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was thinking about that today. The Scrapper forum is ALWAYS the best place for information on how to create broken builds. There's more doom-free information on Inventions here than on the darn Inventions forum.

It's not because Scrappers are the strongest AT. That honor belongs to Controllers.

I think it's because Scrappers don't have any of the nonsense drama the other ATs have. No "anti-healer" vendettas, no "we have a crappy inherent" stuff. Scrappers own and so we spend our time on trying to make them OWN HARDER!

Controllers do too I guess, but without Pilcrow their heart doesn't seem to be in it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I could make a half-hearted attempt at posting how badly gimped Dark Armor is. It'll be like old times.

Except when I say "Dark Armor" here, I'll really post "Regeneration" there.
  15. Maybe. I enjoy it when I participate, but I find that I don't seek it out all that often.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Heres two simple questions regarding this idea.

    1) How hard would it be on players to adapt to?
I'm honestly done revamping characters to deal with game altering changes. After 3 years, I want a stable game base, dagnabit!

    2) How many fun additions to the game would be pushed back, yet again to tweak the mathmatical model?
We've allready spent 2+ issues making significant changes to the system that have helped contribute to pushing back fun things like new powersets or ATs, do we really need the Devs to spend more time nit-picking the system?

I'd rather have more toys, than more 'balance', I can ignore the complaining more easily than I can ignore the stagnation.

    [/ QUOTE ]

IMO, the current mechanics are stagnant, and not very satisfactory.

Also, it's not going to happen, as Castle very clearly stated.

But don't let that stop the panic!
  17. Just three things:

    I'm saying booze.

    Arcanaville wins.

Punchy's healing argument doesn't follow. Heals scale in a linear fashion no matter what. Yes, if you combine healing with the ability to cap resistance and/or defense, you make it that much more powerful - that's an argument for scaling resistance and defense buffs. If you scale those, healing will continue to work fine. You may need to alter the numbers themselves, but healing can remain linear.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Dang. Some of you are wicked paranoid. This is especially interesting considering Castle basically said that this would be a great idea, but they just don't have the resources to implement it.

Equality, or at least some semblance of it would be nice, but arguing for the status quo is always fun, too, I guess.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Any change must be reviled and feared, even if it doesn't make all that much difference, or only appears to make you less powerful while in fact granting you the power cosmic.

I'm serious about the booze, Castle.

    [ QUOTE ]
team buffs have a mechanics problem. Teams vary in size from 1-8 so a buff that applies to everyone on the team is multiplied in effectiveness from 1x to 8x. Either a buff is useless for small teams or godmode for large teams - or both.

What if team buffs had diminishing returns? Say 150% effectiveness for teams of 1-2, 125% for 3-4, 100% for 5-6, and 75% for 7-8 (numbers given are just an idea, the real numbers would need to be better balanced and more complex like (Y-1) X (12.5% + R/2.3).

That way buffs would be more useful on smaller teams and less powerful on bigger teams than they are now. A team buff should still give a bigger total boost on a large team but not 4x on an 8 person team what it does on a 2 person team.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, they should. In fact, adding diminishing returns to buffs and debuffs of all sorts would allow us to alter many, many problematic powers. In all likelyhood, though, it will not happen. The change would simply be too fundmental and require a great deal of work on our part.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Lord help us, they'd do it if they could!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sure! Then Weave could give 15% Defense, and Combat Jumping could give 25% Defense (or whatever) and combined, they'd give 30% instead of 40%. When the local FF Defender buffed the character, instead of the normal 25% for the FF, it'd be 5% for 35% defense.*

Basically, additional buffs would always be helpful, but the base level abilities could be made better and more useful across the board.

    * Disclaimer: All numbers used illustratively and do not indicate any relation to what said values or formulae would actually be if we were ever to implement a system such as this, which I doubt.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The numbers don't matter*, I'm convinced you should go do this now.

    Heck, I'll send you booze.

    * Okay, they do in as much as everything should be effective.
  20. Wow, not impressed so far. Difficult to resist status effects, plus required farming? Not nice.

    Rage debuff

    [ QUOTE ]
Trust me, guys, the Rage penalties now are far better than they used to be. The original Rage penalty was that you were very suseptible to mez attacks for the 10 seconds, but that was nearly unplayable. You would get mezzed, then die. (This was before Break Frees were set up the way they are now.) The next one they tried was making your end fall to 0. Unfortunately, this pretty much had the same dead effect that being mezzed did when you were in a mob heavy situation.

As annoying as that Rage drop can be sometimes, believe me, it could have been alot worse.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Myrmydon: Hey, look! Some Malta!
Kali: Let me get this toggle-
    Myrmydon group teleports!
Rage drops, Myrmydon gets stunned through Unstoppable
    Malta attacks me
    Kali: [censored]?

    This is a true story.

The reason some replies are deleted along with ones that don't look to be harmful is because any reply "chained" from that deleted one is deleted also unless you reply differently. Thats why harmless posts are sometimes wiped when a forum breaking post gets wiped.

I figured everyone knew that by now...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    ZOMG, we know that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Riiiiight Kali. Everyone knew that. Just look at a recent post you quoted.

WoW looking better for you? I bet the boards aren't moderated there.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They are moderated. Not as thoroughly as this forum, but when you have 10x to 100x as many posters, the workload increases greatly. WoW itself does continue to be the better game.

What does moderation have to do with it, though? I don't mind having forum moderation. I've been a moderator in the past. I think in moderation can be a great thing to encourage constructive discussion and discourage personal attacks and pointless offtopicness.

By comparing yourself to them, and the moderation staff (and Lighthouse) to the guys at the Nuremburg trials, you are really inflating the importance of both yourself (hell, any poster on these boards) and the moderation team.

Oh I missed that part of pt's post. You're totally corect though. Using extreme examples is a really poor method of communication. Comparing your paper cut to a sucking chest wound isn't doing anyone any favours.
