Eh, the article was self-congratulatory and somewhat masturbatory. This was about as funny as gargling sand.

Quote:I don't know. I mean when it gets to the point of characterizing people who like something as stupid or whatever (or secretly hating it but too ashamed to come back to this game) it's going beyond simply stating a preference.Or people could just accept that when someone calls something bad they are stating a preference.
Quote:Can you find me something that's universally and objectively bad?
CO is a bad game because it's an ugly game. I am allowed to call it bad because I consider a bad game. And, yes, I killed the black outline and had everything set to max. -
Quote:You don't?No different than people having to get used to IOs and set bonuses really.
That said, CO does have it's flaws, just as CoH had it's own flaws.
You also don't have that sense of "OMG SUPER" (at least I haven't) that one can get in CoH when it comes to building characters and then soloing AVs.
Hopefully a lot changes gets fixed with the apparent influx of players.
Check out Serpent Lantern or Resistance. Both gave me that feeling. -
Quote:I had a similar problem, made worse by the fact that things had changed so much from what it was at launch, that I did understand, that I kept getting stuck in the Powerhouse.Yeah I can empathize with this a bit, but I went on the CO forums seeking direction with the free form build process and it seems logical albeit unnecessarily convoluted. I think it's probably like explaining how IO's and Incarnate crafting works to someone who didn't play COH though- Just one of those things I expect to naturally pick up on more and more as I play the game.
I solved it the same way you did, though. I posted a thread with a build and asked for help, and that helped a lot. -
I wish more people were clear on the distinction between "this is bad" and "I do not like this." CO is not a bad game (although it is definitely below its potential), but disliking it for not being CoH isn't a mark of quality, but preference.

It's only arithmetic in terms of adding up numbers. Choosing where to put those numbers and how to frame them is a whole other thing.
However, I think that your statement about psychology is pretty uninformed. There is a lot of bad science in psychiatry, as there is in many other fields. However, psychology is still a science as long as one doesn't subscribe to overly elitist false beliefs. -

Quote:Then saying that one can go find it is just a way to waste others' time.As it was told to me, the post in question isn't in a public part of the Titan forums, so only people with permission can access it. Even if someone posted a direct link, we wouldn't be able to read it.
I do wonder what kind of stipulations were rumored that made buying it unfeasible. -
It's a way to manipulate the numbers on the books so that a loss (such as eliminating an entire subsidiary) looks like a profit. This is because the expenses are gone and the subsidiary's worth can be written off. It's an accounting thing, and accounting isn't just arithmetic.

Quote:I doubt it would be a problem to just link it.There has been some info out of Titan that explains why buyout talks failed.
Do a little digging on Titan and you can probably find the info in question.
The Cliffs Notes version is that price was never a problem. Certain other requirements set by NC$hit made buying the IP a very unwise and high risk financial/legal decision.
After learning of the above requirements, I can't blame anyone for not being willing to sign on the dotted line. -
Quote:Do you even read Arcanaville's posts?Very serious.
People like Arcanaville:
"Waaaaahhhhhhhhh they killed my game!! Waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!" Get over it. I think even 3rd graders dont carry on like that when their favorite toy is taken away.
Why so many drama posts in a row? Can't the drama just gtfo? -
Quote:Rep was a forum game but some people used it badly (I won't say I didn't a few times, either - poor impulse control is me).Thanks.
Ya know in all honesty I think it's the people that "dislike" me that I'm going to miss the most. They've provided me with years of laughter both in the threads and via hostile PM's they've sent me.
I've had people I ticked off dig thru thousands of my posts to find something to insult me about. They've dredged things I posted in 05-06 as if I'm going to care about something said in a 4, 5, 6 year old thread.
Oh and I miss the comments I used to get in the Rep system because I had my Rep disabled. Some people were livid when they saw they couldn't get any satisfaction watching my rep drop from neg repping me.
The only time I've ever reported a nasty message was when some bigot used the "N" word or anti-gay crap. We didn't need rascists/bigots in our community.
Anyway, I don't dislike you. I think I was frustrated a few times, but that's true with a lot of people I've had arguments with, even those I agreed with except on one particular point, whatever that may have been. Some of them I do miss (such as blueeyed - I don't know whatever became of him - or Concern). -
Not reading the whole thread.
This reminds me of Garriott's resignation letter. -
Quote:I don't think you're the anti-christ, although I remember a couple of arguments we've had. I think.Wait wait, be nice, don't say anything abrasive, or curse? You don'y know my reputation here do you?
Some people consider me the anti-christ, tho I think they're overreacting.
But as one abrasive poster to another, you're definitely abrasive. -
Also, I did not accept it "without question." I should say such questions of game changes chasing people away is something I accepted as inevitable years ago. I questioned it then and concluded the way Arcana does. I even think this about games that made changes that caused me to leave (WoW, for example, on a handful of occasions, and CoH once or twice). I do not agree with every change any game makes, nor do I think every change is good for the game, but I do accept that some changes that may be good may not be to my taste.

Quote:I accept it because, as Arcana pointed out, every decision can cost players. However, that is not the crux of her post. Her post is, overall, a logical explanation as to why blasters needed to be buffed. I simply quoted the last line as a random choice, not because of what the last line said.O.o
That's amazing, shocking, over the top ?
I don't know what is more stunning, that someone could say something like that so offhandedly and with such certainty, or someone else accepting it without question. With the ongoing events it seems complete insanity.
I do not see how comparing the statement to ongoing events makes the statement or agreement into complete insanity. I think that it would be hard to argue that buffing blasters is in any way responsible for the end of CoH, since the buffing never actually happened in any official capacity.
If anything, I would argue that the resistance to buffing blasters in the first place may have already cost many players. This doesn't mean I think that said resistance killed the game. It does, however, mean that I see no point to not providing a more satisfactory and above all consistent with the rest of the game playing experience. And I think that such a buff would make more players happier than the number of players it would upset or chase away. I do not even think that every player who likes blasters being some kind of "hard mode" would have left after issue 24 had it gone live. -
Quote:Control right-click to turn all old crafting components into rank 1 mods. You only need to do this to one stack, and it'll get everything in your inventory and bank. This also applies to any qliphothic energy you pick up in Unity missions, although stopping to harvest a single rank 1 mod at level 40 seems to be a bit of a waste of time. That echoes my feelings on the matter.
One thing that is different (in a bad way, as far as I can tell) is that they re-vamped their crafting system such that the original system (the one that existed at launch) is obsolete.
I have all of these components that I earned two years ago that are seemingly worthless now -- I haven't found any information to suggest otherwise. It's not a major impediment, just disappointing. -

I don't think the art is bad as such, I think it's mostly a matter of taste. The faces don't bother me unless they're badly out of proportion, and I like the costumes.
And really, CO does some things CoH didn't do, in good ways. -
Quote:This part is awkward, but if you're all doing the same mission, you can remain teamed while doing the solo instance part. Or you could avoid doing solo instance stuff. Or you could do dungeons.I am at a loss to understand a game that allows/encourages you to team up and then when you have a full team hands you a "Solo only" task. We all disband and never get back together. Seems weird.
Quote:I think the spawn placement and aggro range is way to aggressive where ever and what ever level you are.
I have had many missions where you have to kill a whole field of foes just to get to the target and usually end up with a mob of them dogpiling me to death. And yes I can stealth but not in this game. And as soon as you get tagged by a foe you lose your run ability so you really do have to stand and die.
Most of the time I actually do fairly well on managing how many mobs are attacking me, and I think some of the people in TSW from here can attest to the times when it falls apart, as I tend to get a bit touchy about it. Most of the time I'm busy killing everything I see or running past it with little risk.
Quote:Also it is a frequent occurence to get to a foe and start a fairly even sided fight so you are on the edge when a totally random spawn passes by and aggro's on you as well or just appears in the fight and joins in. The caves are terrible for that.
Quote:And it usually happens when you have fought long and hard to clear 95% of the enemies so that when you get killed they all return to life at full health immediately. You go back to start and have to redo all that work. That is when I really feel like rage quitting.
Quote:So this game is not all fun and excitment, lots of really irritating stuff in there as well. You decide which on balance makes you stay or leave.
Cheers -
Quote:Could you take this disagreement out of this thread? It's off-topic and rather pointless.Should of did that along time ago. At least we know the feelings are mutual now. No point in answering the question about my age since I'm on your ignore list but from the way it looks, a bit older than you, dang imbecile. What you was expecting for me to thank you for that as you say uncalled for post? If you was going to offer an apology you would have done it a while ago.

Also, one thing I forgot:
The first passive in the Fist Weapons primal tree is "Lick Your Wounds." What it does is give you a small, stacking heal over time every time you attack. It's not a lot, but it helps in the early game, only costs one AP, and you do not have to equip fist weapons to use the passive. In fact, none of the passives require you to equip the relevant weapon, so you can mix and match for stronger synergies later on. But early on, it might be worthwhile. -
