  1. Oh, F_P, if it helps:

I don't think the sprint tip is very noticeable, and it pops up at a time when you're guaranteed to be thinking of other things. It's so easy to miss I only spotted it on my fourth character, and I usually try to pay attention.

I'm sorry, I was unaccountably touchy about pointless things earlier. I try to keep it to a minimum on the forum but, eh. I am sorry.

You can't activate sprint in combat but you should always activate it as soon as you exit combat. And going into combat does not always shut it off. Most often, it stays on until someone hits you with an impairing effect or you take several hits. It's a preventative - not reactive - measure.

(seriously, I really hate it when people assume the most inane interpretations of what's been said - no one suggested turning on sprint while being pursued - we said to turn on sprint, period. Why take this to an absurd degree that was never proposed?)

If it's not about you, then you don't have to make it about you. And it wasn't about you. It was about Golden Girl, who loves to insult people who play any game other than CoH.

I don't mind anyone thinking it was the best game evar!1! because I happen to like it a lot, and it is the game that got me into trying MMOs at all. I just don't see the whole point of tearing down other games and communities to make one's favorite look better. If anything, it makes it look worse.

Love, like, neutral, dislike, or hate CO, I wouldn't take GG's word for anything in the game. Her observations aren't about objectivity, but about boosting CoH as the best game evar!1! and insulting anyone who plays anything different.

Orbital cannon (anvil of dawn) does a decent amount of damage and does it while you fire your other weapons. It's lackluster even at rank 3 if you don't take anvil (and of course you can't be rank 3 and take anvil, but anvil really is a much superior choice).

Damage Boost (Lock and Load, for example) -> Orbital Cannon -> Implosion Engine -> Sonic Device -> Micro Munitions -> Minigun makes very short work of everything, plus the implosion engine keeps them in the AoE.

I ran between houses where I've never seen spawns, jumped fences, ran thru the always empty park thing. Jumping stuff kept me alive longer. And you are right about the church mobs. I was just a few feet from the steps hen they appied the coup de grace.
Unless you're watching behind you it can be really hard to tell who's leaving and who's joining the chase and it really can seem like you're being chased all the way across town. It is annoying.

That's why I was heading for the church when I got up around the Fire House and was still being attacked. Died just outside in front of the church steps.
Ah, that makes sense. You may have collected a volunteer fireman or two as well, and they can hit pretty hard.

I wouldn't call it motivation, It's more a description of how that annoying game mechanic makes me feel.
Ah, so it was more of an analogy? Sorry about confusion.

    Quote:
Okay that may have been part of the problem while being chased. I honestly can't recall ever using "x" to sprint.
There's an early tooltip that tells you about sprint that I saw once - on my fourth character. I learned about it by seeing other players outrun me and checking keybinds.

In time you may come to rely on the mechanic. I know I do.
  9. I went into the tutorial, which I last played like...forever ago.

The current popups do not appear to explain energy builders. WTH, Cryptic?
  10. It looks like a leash, it walks like a leash, it sounds like a leash... I'll call it a leash.

Not me, because I have not dared to open my mouth, given the general mood. But I don't feel very welcome regardless, knowing that is how people feel. Perhaps I will just minimize my chatbox and concentrate on killing stuff for a while.
Try joining the CoX chat channel. The people there are generally fairly helpful, and the channel itself is pretty drama free. Sometimes, the community rep Trailturtle drops in.
  12. Yeah, I mean aside from the difficulty in facing them I think they're a fairly cool addition to the Rikti, and work great in Mothership raids.

Funny how they didn't seem to be leashed when I wasn't fighting back.
As I said, not all mobs have the same leash. But, seriously, there is no way that zombies followed you from the Beach to the church. What likely happened is that you got more than one group chasing you, and the group that caught you started chasing you much closer to the church.

Also, if you run inside the church, the zombies will just die.

Draugr seem to have longer leashes than zombies, but they can still be outrun.

And you know what? It didn't bother me that they kept after me and overwhelmed me with sheer numbers. I found that to be immersive. They were relentless just like movie zombies.

But a mindless undead suddenly developing survival instincts, and then taunting me by instantly regenerating? Essentially saying,"Neener neener neener I'm at full health! thpthpthpthpt! Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah!" Pisses me off.
I don't understand how you could possibly see that kind of motivation behind the regeneration. It's just regeneration. If you got away from them, you'd regen to full too.

Also, did you know that if you press X you can activate sprint? It's not superfast (at least not early on), but it can make getting through crowds of mobs somewhat easier.

    Quote:
I still like the game tho. Just not that particular game mechanic.
I can understand this. I really hate it some days, because it gets the better of me. I used to hate it a lot, when I started playing WoW in 2005, but I'm used to it now, and used to finding ways to avoid the mobs entirely, or letting them chase me, but they rarely catch me.

And if this pisses you off, I do not look forward to your first encounter with the ak'ab. D:
  14. None anymore, at any level range.

I remember the first time I encountered Rikti magi on my DM/DA - I swear that they had every damage type in the game, plus mezzing.

No, he's right. ME3 is a good game.

I disagree with him in that the original ending is weak but that's because to me it lacked sufficient resolution or a sense of what was going on. My understanding is that the extended cut takes care of that.
  16. Part of my secret is that I constantly heal back to full during combat.
  17. Also such games tend to have mechanics in which characters can rapidly recover health out of combat, so without it you could fight, break combat, heal, and resume. So mobs regen back to full out of combat. It's not really that big a deal.

As far as quitting and evading back to their spawn point, this is because mobs are leashed to only move a certain distance from their spawn point. This benefits players who might be trying to cross the zone and don't want to fight everything they encounter and it prevents a certain degree of kiting. It can be frustrating at times as many boss mobs have very short leashes, and you can have a boss evade, regen to full, and immediately attack again. I've had to beat a boss down three times before I managed to defeat it because it had such a short leash. On the other hand, I was able to survive taking it down to near defeat twice before defeating it the third time without any out of combat regen. This is why I don't think it's all that big a deal.
  18. Those popups do exist, although I know I tend to close them as soon as they appear. Wouldn't be surprised at anyone else doing the same because they're so damned annoying.

But they do explain the game mechanics.

Granted havent talked to Juryrig just yet in regular Vibora Bay and he might have more information on it.
Juryrig remembers nothing. Ka remembers everything. Caliburn doesn't remember anything at first, but as you help him adopt the mantle of Archmage, he gains access to the memories although he doesn't remember them so much as know these things happened.

Of course when you travel to the pre-apoc. vibora bay, the apoc has not happened yet and thus teh contacts have no idea what you are talking about and thus the storyline about the apoc. all but ends there.
This isn't true: You contribute to starting the apocalypse in the first place, and end up going to Vibora Bay to help stop it. Once you travel back in time, two of the central contacts you dealt with during the apocalypse either immediately or eventually recall the events and work with you on preventing them from coming to pass. You get a series of missions that ends with Therakiel's Temple, a 5-person lair, and ultimately prevents the apocalypse.

I don't know, I didn't have any trouble interpreting this story arc. I'm not sure how you missed the central bit involving Dr. Ka and Caliburn that is all about preventing the apocalypse.

I don't know, did you use it as a reason to stalk and abuse bioware employees?

There's a line between "I don't like your product" and "therefore, I will abandon all pretense of civilization in my interactions with you."

I think this has more to do with fans being utter prats in response to ME3 and DA2 than it does with EA trying to kill the studio.

The FIRST reason is simply because I cannot stand looking at the game. This, in my very humble opinion, is a massive flaw in a form of entertainment that should be visually appealing.
    I don't have this problem.

I found the events in the mission worked fine.
