Update: No final decisions have been made yet. But I expect to keep this little contest going at least through the end of the year. Everyone's open to enter. Two notes...
1) I'd like to keep the villains group balanced. Ideally, I'd like to have three women characters and two more male characters/monstrous types.
2) My secret panel of judges and I enjoy memorable characters and will be making our final choices based on how well the character's history is fleshed out (both personal and ties to Bayani) and costumes that tie into the characters' background and have an iconic look. (intriguing but not complicated). Celtic Bolt, Mr. Majesty, White Peregrine Soul Train, and Planet Girl are some examples of characters I've really dug. (I'm sure you can find them on dA too).
I apologize for not mentioning the above earlier. I've been kinda winging this as I sort out the details. This project is best described as a combination writing/costume contest. Every player is encouraged to submit an entry. People who have submitted entries already are welcome to edit their characters and re-submit as well.
Take your time everyone, and bring your Sunday best. -

I'm starting to think Bayani is in deep, DEEP trouble. All of a sudden he seems to have half the villains in the Rogue Islands after him.

What's a hero without a rogues gallery to make conflict intensely personal? The way I see it the extra five I end up selecting would end up harboring a really intense personal hatred to actually come together and ambush the dude. -
Great entries so far! This'll be running for a few weeks so if folks feel like updating their entries go for it. ^_^

Oops, sorry for not making it clear enough. I was looking for just the villains really. I do have a few artists in mind for the piece already. Thanks for the offer though, I'll take it into consideration. I haven't been watching the forums closely or playing much in the past year so I don't know alot of the "new" forumites. This post is in the same vein as the post I had two years ago, calling for volunteers for a short cameo in the CoH-related comic book story I worked with Brandon McKinney on. I've kept Bayani's story fairly close to game canon and I've always felt that his rogues gallery would be more interesting with other players' characters in it. And with the economy being tight for everyone, I kinda like the idea of giving people a chance at free art for helping me develop a little more of Bayani's story. FireBrandi's entry is a great example of what I was looking for.

Hey nice! He should totally use that as an icon now. And there's nothing wrong with Red and Yellow. Not as long as Hulkamania and Bayani have anything to say anything about it.

Well I took last year off but this year I've been batting around an idea of getting another multiple character commission done, this time of Bayani running/dodging between a group of six villains. Sorta like a Spider-Man vs. Sinister Six kinda thing going on. I've been shopping around but I'll make no guarantees that this'll actually get done. The price has got to be right, the artist's got to have a style I really dig and someone I can trust professionally, and there are still other projects I have going that take priority. So here's the deal... I'm looking for five villainous volunteers who'd be interested in being in the piece. Post your character's name, reference shot, a short back history, and I guess to make things interesting, why your character could/should be in Bayani's rogues gallery.
P.S. Juggertha's already in. The dude deserves a nod in my book. -
Happy birthday! Hey neat an alex birthday sketch!
-
Thanks again, Juggy! I really appreciate it. I'll return the favor sometime.

Thanks everyone! I haven't been collecting as much art as I use to. I think I'm probably the "pickiest" collector around.

Bayani and Planet Girl
Penciled pinup w/ full background by Tyler Kirkham. Tyler's list of credits include New Avengers/Transformers, Amazing Spider-Man, The Darkness, The Darkness/Wolverine, The Darkness/Superman, The Darkness/Batman, The Darkness/Your Mom... -
*stays put, hands folded* Ok. I won't click.

*peers around* Yep, the short comic book story I've commissioned is finally in the coloring stage. The colorist and I had to go back and forth a bit to nail down Bayani's complexion just right, but here's a preview at the rough colors for one of the pages. (linework by Brandon McKinney, colors by Brad Mrock)

I could've...but I ended up just doing multiple respecs to slavage the IOs before deleting him. I was kinda bored with the Fire/EM blaster anyways so...yeah. I deleted. Gives me an excuse play again....not having a "50".

nice work... hey I thought you retired!?

When Fire/Fire scrappers came out, I deleted Bayani and re-rolled him to fit concept better. -
8 page comic book story notwithstanding, this is probably the most detailed Bayani piece I've had done in some time. Anyhow, here's the original linework done by Ed Tadeo. I felt the linework made the character look on the more older/mature side.

Artist Gary Martin (author of [u]Art of Comic Book Inking[u] took some notes and did some really professional inking to finetune the linework and make Bayani look younger and more clean cut.

Custom-painted DS Lite, featuring Bayani art by Dave Hamann. The DS logo bump on the lid could not be sanded down, so I had it incorporated into the custom art.

Looking ahead to the year, I've got three last projects to finish before I pretty much close the door on my character.
1) "Community" is half-inked. Hopefully this'll get wrapped up in time for Fanzine #2.
2) The Nintendo DS: Bayani Edition. Currently in the design stages, I'm working on getting a custom-painted DS featuring art of my character.
3) A Custom painted laptop, featuring Bayani art. Preview of the lid graphics - Bayani by Ed Tadeo (of Fables fame) -
THe CCA Guide replaces the older guide, Collecting Original Comic Art. You can delete the older guide.

Nah, not really. I'm hoping to get everything but the coloring done by January though.

Celtic Bolt, Killer Whale, Hour Woman, and Planet Girl. I commissioned Mr. Layton to draw a cover for a short story I'm having illustrated.

Wow, you're really chugging along!
(minor quibble, the Filipino flag is the only flag that changes during times of war. At peace, the blue section is placed above the red section. During war, the red is placed on top of the blue.) -
Costume looks great! The more simple costumes always catch my eye as I'm a part of the "less is more" crowd. The really great and memorable characters in this game and the comic books have costumes that become an instant classic, to the point where it becomes iconic. I've never been a big fan of capes, but boots and a practical belt that match the gloves would complete the costume though.
And if you see me in-game, feel free to say hi. I'm generally happy to meet new people from the forums. -
Those would look totally cool on a Jughead Jones kinda hat.
