  1. Hey, great sketch. I like the very light rendering.
  2. Great work by McKinney as always. =)
  3. Well you are posting updates from their site. I'm curious as to why as well. The folks in this thread are checking that site out daily for news regarding their commissions as Jomaro or Lush haven't been in contact.
  4. I say FireBrandi vs. Turbo-ski. =P Quit mentioning me everyone.

Pssh. That guy's a chump. We all know the real bad-[censored] token Azn superstar is moi.
  6. Well, I think by now we've established that it would be pretty risky to deal with MMOArt.com right now. To the point where I don't think anyone who happens on this thread would still commission them for work.

I understand the frustration, especially TA's. But I'm not sure this is the best place to raise those types of concerns. It could cause moderators to step in and NCSoft might lay down some ground rules that none of us would like.

(wow, these forums are finicky tonight)
  7. I guess I'm the only one who would prefer a real artist drawn model sheet than screenshots.. heh
  8. There's a number of reasons as to why that may happen. Maybe the other artist wants to remain anonymous because of relationships with major publishing companies. Or maybe they get a bigger percentage fee for the work. There's alot of stuff you have to manage though taking commissions: Managing money. Shipping art. communicating with members who need stuff change. Alot of that's a hassle to deal with when they can spend more time just drawing. So having an agent or a studio handle the adminstrating stuff may not be such a bad idea.
  9. Given the really twisted minds of some folks around these parts, a scythe through the chest is the least of my worries. =P
  10. I know some people are pretty opinionated on forums and such but I think it would be best keep the sharp criticism off of these forums. No one wants to see this devolve into a flame fest. It'd be better to ask these questions directly of Jomaro via email if you have concerns.
  11. Bayani doesn't have a perky, bouncy set of globes on his chest, which is why he doesn't really get a whole lot of attention. Totally fine by me. =)

I am rather picky about who uses my character and how he's portrayed though...which is one of the reasons why I don't volunteer him for free art offers. Besides, these opportunities are a great chance to give props to characters who don't get to see the spotlight very much. It'd be better to use someone other than Bayani.
  12. Juggy's not a villain. Actually, I do have a plan in the works for Bayani vs. Juggertha. So you can skip those two.
  13. Oh....forgot to post a sample one. One sec...

    Sample Model Sheet

Obviously, you'll want to take screenshots of your character with matching views. I'm pretty sure both Alex and Brandon could do one for you. The benefit of having a model sheet done is that you can include details that aren't depicted in-game, so I would highly recommend that as your first piece.

  14. The two I would recommend most are ImagesbyAlex and Brandon McKinney. They offer the best bang for your buck and have an understanding of the costume designs in game. There would be less back-and-forth getting your look just right.

If you're planning on turning it into a hobby, I recommend getting a model sheet done. Eventually, you might do what I did, and start commissioning artists who don't know a thing about City of Heroes. A model sheet will show all the details an artist needs to draw your character accurately. If they screw up even with a model sheet, well it's because the artist was f'ing lazy.

  15. Heeey, nice pose there, Alex.

    Some Questions

I personally don't think it's right. But I suppose there's nothing stopping you or an artist from accepting trades like that.
  17. Oops. One more piece of art came in, pencils and inkwash by Francis Manapul.

    Of Planeteers and Paladins
  18. Speaking of long-awaited works, my pestering of Joe Rubinstein finally paid off and these two pieces will be sent off to the colorist on Monday. (Or else...)

I've know for quite some time that my gallery had lacked some cheesecake so two and a half years ago, I commissioned Yvel Guichet (JLA, Aquaman, Archenemies) to draw two pieces of art...one of Bayani with my favorite DC heroine Zatanna and one of Bayani with my favorite Marvel heroine...She-Hulk. He referred me to Joe Rubinstein (who I think is in the Guiness World Book of Records for inking the the most pencilers in the industry). It took over thirteen months to finally get the inks done so here's the latest scans.

And Now for My Next Trick..."

As if I was going to be out-done by all of you nubz.
  19. Wait...there's a game?!
  20. *low whistle*

That is a long time. This might be a good time to suggest that people dust off and read my guide to commissioning art. Kidding.
  21. Whoa, three years? Really?

Sometimes, you might have to write off a commission as a loss.

I love ya Bayani, but ...

Hehe. Maybe three years of experience makes me a bit cynical. Personally, I don't pay anything more than $50 upfront anymore unless it's someone who's got an agent I can hold partially accountable or I was referred to the artist by someone I trust. Even then though, you may get burned. I hope it's #1 too. It's just that the best you can really do is email/call regularly until you get an answer. Speaking of which, I have to go pester someone. >.>
  23. Heya, folks. I haven't talked to Gil in awhile, but I know what it's like to wait longer than anticipated for a piece of commissioned art. As far as I've heard though, Jomaro's never bailed on a customer who's paid already and I'm sure he's doing what he can. Some times though, life happens and well, alot of these transactions are bound by a contract...or really, worth going to court over. Sometimes, you might have to write off a commission as a loss. (I know that's not any comfort...but I do feel your pain as I still have stuff waiting from other artists as long as 18 months. And another artist passed away before my order was started. =/)

Been swamped by work lately and hardly had any time to draw. Finally made good on my promise way back in the Satisfaction thread, though. Here's my version of the King himself.

Heeeeey...that's not Elvis! Seriously though, good looking piece there. I like the character concept too.
  25. Hrm...You know Mr. Majesty was always a character I really admired. His costume design really lived up to the the name. Very regal looking.
