  1. Well it swings both ways. With how tough the economy is, it's still a gamble for an artist to take a commission without upfront money. As someone who's worked in lending, experience and sense dictates that if/when a person has to chose between paying their bills and feeding their family, the family's going to come first. Really, it's up to the artist and the customer to hammer out those details, preferably before any work and money is negotiated. In the end, communication is key. Now the issue with MMOArt is that there is no communication and as such, avenues like the BBB and Paypal are the only option left, unfortunately.
  2. Partial Inks Complete

The partial inks are complete. The face was fine-tuned and the arm was fixed a little. Overall I'm happy with the progress but the foreshortening on the arm and the head's position still feels a bit off. Some say that's being nitpicky, but it's still a solid piece.
  3. Oh and don't forget Invincebelle too and her the strategericly torn costume.

There are plenty of veteran collectors such as TA, Brandi, PinUp, SoulTrain, Comrade Hero, and myself who are willing to recommend artists ...

Oh and Rowr. and that other one. Rowr w/ less fur. Meh. not important. =P
  5. Hrm, I'm rather disappointed about the current goings on and I sympathize with you folks who are out in the cold about your art.

In the future, I do suggest commissioning artists with good references and not paying full price upfront for anything over $50. There are plenty of veteran collectors such as TA, Brandi, PinUp, SoulTrain, Comrade Hero, and myself who are willing to recommend artists and artists like Shuler, McKinney et al who'll vouch for other artists. Just drop us messages. Networking, as I've written before, is golden. Being extra picky may not lead to a high-volume art collection, but a little planning and research goes a long way in avoiding stress/headaches in what's suppose to be a fun hobby/past-time.
  6. Interesting. I'll have to check it out sometime.
  7. Maybe just the dpi? I took the image and cropped it. See if this works for you.

  8. I'd check out dA's Bokuman. I've commissioned him and I think Buckeyestar did too. Oscar's pretty good, though the language barrier's a bit tough.

  9. It's still a work in progress, but given that I wasn't too keen on an artist's recent coloring job, I switched gears and just had the gentleman do a new piece for a friend of mine. Still needs some adjustment and inks.

  10. I like the middle one. The last one is ok but personally, I feel it could've been more dynamic if the wings were open. The closed wings doesn't quite match the pose, which is diving at the viewer.
  11. Well given that the exchange rate according to some MMO currency traders is about 100 million for about 15-20 dollars, I wouldn't go that low either. >.>
  12. I wrote this awhile back... short series of articles that was in the Scoop about collecting character art. I compiled it into a small guide that folks never really read. *shrugs* Might help you, might not. The hyper-links are broken, as I've moved and re-organized my albums.

Send him a PM bro, can't talk prices here on the forums

Don't wanna wake the mods at this time of night....

I don't typically discuss pricing regarding the art I commission. The reason why is because each agreement I make with an artist depends on the scope of the work and the time-frame. In addition, alot of the artists I've worked with don't typically take commissions, and agreed to my requests because of referrals from other artists I've worked with in the past. Because of that, I don't feel comfortable discussing price with uninvolved third parties because I don't want to inadvertently set price/availability expectations for artists. I'm just a customer, not an agent or manager.
  15. That second link didn't quite work.
  16. Thanks everyone. Still some great pieces being wrapped up soon but I'm glad people enjoy the gallery. =)
  17. A new job opportunity makes me feel less guilty about commissioning. I just had colors done on a ink-washed piece done by Francis Manapul of Top Cow and DC fame.

  18. Continued luck in all your art endeavors, then. =)
  19. Huh? *peeks* What'd I miss?
  20. Good luck, 8! Been enjoying your stuff.
  21. You know Invincible is an actual comic book hero from Image, right?
  22. Depends on the work but most of the pros that I've commissioned usually get their art to me in 8-10 weeks for full, detailed pencils. Some have gotten it to me in 2 days. In other cases, over 13 months. If I've paid some money up front, I'm not terribly forgiving about commissions that aren't moving along according to an agreed schedule.
