I'm digging the beast/animal work in the gallery. There's alot of details in them, which I think is pretty tough to pull off considering that they're imaginary creatures.

freem was a onamatopoetic word that the devs used to describe the sound of a Freeze Ray during an April Fools gag.

Yeah. What she said. -
Well, I didn't quite say money is no object. You'd be surprised as to which pieces in my featured section cost me just as much as something folks have gotten from PWA. I'm not saying that folks should be scrutinize/agonize over every little line. Still, being able to look at a piece or a portfolio and pick up on some of the less obvious details is a somewhat practical skill to develop. I still think regardless of what how much the art costs or what level of skill the artist has, some "classroom/forum-room"discussion regarding criticisms and suggestions would benefit collectors, aspiring collectors, and artists.

Well, Fox, I don't read every single thread in the Art Forums section or view every single picture, so I don't think the timing is relevant. Today was the first time I noticed this and I believe that there's a common understanding in these circles (original characters etc) that character creators are consulted beforehand. The issue had cropped up before. And on my dA gallery, it does say "If you're interested in drawing Bayani, please send me a note first."
-
*scratches his chin* Hm. I'm not happy that someone used Bayani as a subject in his art without asking me beforehand.
-
I'll vote for Projectionist.
(Not trying to make a big deal out of this but moving forward, I would appreciate it if folks asked me before using Bayani as subject for art or for stories.) -

There you go. -
Grats on 50, Peter. Is that your first?

Those comments from a month ago stemmed from my view that on these forums and in dA, there's alot of overwhelming praise for artwork that has room for improvement, regardless of the collector's expectations. I'd rather see more people calling a duck a duck, so to speak, and that there should be a little more discussion about the technical details of the artwork and its composition.
I understand that my approach to collecting, where the soundness of the artist's technique and the overall quality of the piece is considered ahead of the fee, is not really commonly shared. Not to say that I pay more than what a piece is worth, but I won't necessarily commission an artist just because his/her fees are low. I do believe that collectors gain stronger artwork if they get more involved in the piece and are more aware of the details within its composition. Often times, the overall integrity of an artwork is compromised by very small mistakes which could've been corrected fairly easily. There are alot of good characters and concepts floating around this section of the forums and in my view, the characters deserve a little extra polish. Obviously the character means something to the collector, otherwise you wouldn't bother to commission art of him or her. I'm not saying you have to go all Jerry Jones on the artist and micromanage everything...but tweaks here and there should be reasonably accomodated, especially during the rough draft/thumbnails part of the process.
I like your new piece, by the way, Morganstern. The lighting is very interesting. One thing to note about the piece though is that the muscles in Nike's neck aren't aligned with her head turning. -
Your first dog was dark, mutated, and rabid?
Interesting work, LJ. -

3? Hm...you're coming awfully close to the total number of sketches I've received from DN...

Well by the same token I also paid for about 7 or 9 others by other people last year, for Winter. no money this year, so no more sketches.
I have like 120 of my one tiger girl Raanatani though, going over about 14 years worth of conventions...

And not posted on dA? tsk tsk. -

David's marker stuff has gotten even better. Nice pickups!

*yawns and flumps on a fbbc with a stack of comic books* yay. end of the week.

I still think you need a belt.
And the eyepiece would probably look cooler if it were black. it'd blend in with the black section of the helmet.
-
I like the design of costume 1...though I think the helmet could be a bit sleeker. the belt from costume 2 could go on costume 1. I think gloves and boots should match though, colorwise.

*points to his arc in the signature* I think the length is fairly well balanced. Level 40+, however.

Alright. I borrowed some of Brandon McKinney's time to have a colored bust sketch done of DeviousMe's character.

I think Farlow might be able to do something suitable. I've only received quick sketches from him though so I don't know how he is when it comes to working through the stages from start to finish. It's alot of effects there though, there's risk that the artist would end up with a rather busy looking piece.
The other thing to keep in mind though is that every collector has tastes and standards. Those who check on my collection regularly and who have been included in some of the commissions I've gotten would attest that I'm rather selective and nitpicky about artists I work with. So what may not work for me might work for you. -
