Quote:Yup, on the top of the submisions popup, there's a pulldown for the catagories. Default seems to be screenshots, but you can easily select any other.
Hey folks, I've made a formal announcement along with some clarification (good clarification I hope on the features. Check it out here.
City of Heroes deviantArt Group Introduction -
Hello, Screenshots & Fan Creations lurkers and dwellers (and TA).
I’d like to take the time now to formally announce that http://cityofheroes.deviantart.com/ is now active and the ground work for organization has been set up. Please remember that the groups feature for deviantArt is in the Beta stages. Everyone who plays City of Heroes/Villains or is just a fan of the franchise is welcome to join the group. You simply need to open a free deviantArt account to be a part of it, if you haven't done so already (and it’s easy, no frills). Simply go to the group page at the URL listed above, sign in to dA, and click the “Join this Group” button. It’s so easy, a Foo can do it.
This is a fan-run group, started by myself and administered by an involved core of collectors you’ve known of for sometime. With this group established, the Screenshots/Fan Creations Forum has a great common place to show, share, collect, and organize City of Heroes-related creations. It also creates establishes more visibility for us as a whole on on deviantArt, network with other artists, and showcase the artistic and literary talents our growing posse has cultivated, including the 2010 FArt Competition. Can you believe it’s been over 5 years now since the game has been launched? I remember when the “usual suspects” of collectors use to just be TA, Olliefu, Rowr, myself and a handful of others. A lot of folks have come and gone, but having a dA Group will also give those former CoHers a place to hang out with us again.
As a member of the group, you are permitted to submit Favorites, Screenshots, Art, Fan Fiction, and to the page.
-Favorites-
Suggesting Favorites to the Group is a great way to share non-CoH related art with the rest of the CoH Group. CoH-related content should be contributed to the Group's Galleries instead. Please be sure to select art that is Safe for Work. One great feature is that you can send favorites
-Contributing to the Gallery-
Members are only allowed to submit deviations to certain folders. This is done in order to make sure that the galleries are kept as organized as possible and easy to maintain for the Gallery Directors, who have been assigned to oversee several of the Main Galleries. .
The direct URL to the CoH Group gallery is located at http://cityofheroes.deviantart.com/gallery/ .
On that page is a button that will allow you to submit art to the Group’s collection. If you click on that button, you should see this window pop up...
It’s pretty self-explanatory. The drop-down window at the top will allow you to select which folder you want your art to be submitted to. After that, select the deviation you want to add to the group. You can pull a deviation from your own dA account, or your Favorites folder, or you can use the All Deviations Tab to search for a particular piece of art to add. After that, just click ok, and you’re done. If the submitted deviation does *not* fall under the ownership of your dA account, a message will be sent auto-magically to the original artist/owner of the deviation, asking them to approve or deny the submission request. If accepted, it’ll appear in the gallery. Members are permitted to submit creations to the galleries marked with a ~.
The Galleries and Sub-Galleries are arranged as follows….
Champions of Justice (Gallery Director- Larissa Rasputin)
~Sub-Gallery: Heroes
~Sub-Gallery: Heroines
Rogues Gallery (Gallery Director- Gray Huntress)
~Sub-Gallery: Villains
~Sub-Gallery: Villainesses
The above galleries are reserved for single-character pinups only.
Featured Crossovers (Gallery Director- TA)
~Teamups
~Showdowns
~Group Battles
The above galleries are fairly self-explanatory, with Group Battles reserved for pictures that can be classified as both Teamups and Showdowns.
~Screenshots
Screenshot manipulations and taken directly from the game fall under here.
~CoH CoV Fan Fiction (Gallery Director- Zerry)
This gallery will include art involving Mission Architect stories here, as well as fan fiction.
~Signature CoX Characters
Any art involving the signature characters of CoX should be included in this folder.
Champions of Justice, Rogues Gallery, and Featured Crossovers are considered the main galleries, and the Gallery Directors will be responsible for picking the noteworthy art pieces from the sub-galleries and highlighting them in the main galleries. The Featured pieces (which appear on the main Group Page) will be a select pieces of art highlighted in the main galleries. These are up to the discretion of the Gallery Directors.
One thing I’d like to note is that you can only contribute deviations that are posted on dA already. Nothing is submitted exclusively to the CoH Group page. This is by design so that the dA account under which the deviation was originally submitted maintains credit for the submission. In the event of a duplicate submission by the original artist and the collector, admins have been instructed to remove the collector’s submission and keep the original artist’s submission. If you happen to submit art to the wrong folder, do *not* resubmit the deviation. Simply send a group note to the page and an admin will correct it shortly.
I encourage members to contribute SFW CoH-related art they’ve collected or created to the Group. There are no caps or limits as to how much you can submit to the above galleries but please, use judgement and don’t overdo it. Overall, I think this is a great way to share your best with folks in the CoH Community who don’t have you on their watch list.
- Artists’ Alley –
Artists’ Alley is a special membership level within the CoH Group Page for the community's artists who are actively accept commissions. As a member of Artists’ Alley, you will be allowed to submit up to four sample pieces of your work to a special gallery aptly called “Artists’ Alley". Pieces from the Artists’ Alley gallery will appear on the main page, just like the Featured pictures. To join the Artists’ Alley group, simply send me (angbayani) a note on dA and I’ll be happy to assist you getting started.
- 2010 FArt Competition –
We’re still working out the details. Check back later on this. But members participating in the FArt Competition will get a special membership level within the group in order to have access to submitting their entries to the page and having them archived there.
I believe those are enough details to get everyone started. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact myself or the Gallery Directors. We’re growing very quickly (over 60 members in 24 hours!) and have already added *lots* of really cool art to the Group’s Galleries. So, come on join us and contribute, too! We’ll show those Naruto and Pokemon fan clubs who the real kool kids on dA are. -
*flumps* Wow. Setting up a group site on dA is alot of work.
But now there's a CityofHeroes.Deviantart.Com website. Wahoo. -
Kinky. Well assuming the "mature" filter's set appropriately for "that" month's submissions, it should be alright. The onus will be on the viewer to have the mature filter on to block that content.

If people will feel that strongly about voting, then I would concede that voting should be kept here. However, I do believe that the art submissions for the contests should be posted by the participants on the dA page. Having a neat, organized gallery to host all of them would be nicer than just posting them one by one in a forum thread here.

Quote:I've been finding that the searching for deviations is a pain in the butt, though if it works for you, go for it. Doesn't it search via keywords? You CAN add things from Scraps. They do not show up in the list of choosable Deviations, but if you type the title of the Scrap you want to submit into the included Search box and search for it, it will show up and be selectable. Since all game screenshots including your character reference shots should be in Scraps anyway and not in your main gallery, this is an important thing to know, so your references can be submitted!
-
Oh! Got it. You can also submit those commissions and gift art too if the artist posted them to dA. There's a Favorites and a Deviations tab to search for deviations you want to contribute. What happens is a message will go to the artist who submitted it and ask him if they'd like to have their work posted in the gallery.
-
Quote:I don't think we'll ever be able to submit stuff from scraps there unfortunately. I can't even display "scrap" stuff on my own personal gallery as a premium member. Why not just move that stuff to your main gallery and then submit your choice pieces?Woke up this morning and discovered my inbox had been kekekekekekeke Zerg rushed by all the new submissions. Ah well, added all my pixel manipulations to the group, and will get around to adding fanfics too.
My one gripe is that it won't let me submit stuff from my scraps, which is where I keep all my character references and screenshots and junk. I guess I shall have to sit and wait until that gets beta'd out.
Sorry, from what I read in your post, it sounded like you were planning on submitting your deviations to the group page exclusively rather than on your gallery first.
I know it can get spammy with all the alerts. If it gets too much you can always turn off message alerts. hopefully the group will generate enough activity that you can pretty much expect something new to be there every day. -
Quote:Not necessarily...maybe the artist who's most compelling in terms of getting their watchers and their friends would, perhaps. Again, I believe we're a solid enough community (hopefully i'm not being too idealistic/optimistic) that participants won't try any douchy shenanigans. Though we won't know for sure until the contest is in full swing.I was assuming polling limited to members...
As Bayani says, I don't suspect there'd be much (if any) creating of accounts just to vote until maybe the end when things get tightStill doubt there would be but *shrug*
But with wide open polling that does lead to the artist with the most watchers having an advantage, no? -
Yeah, I've been trying to futz around with the Polls. Unfortunately there is no way to limit polling on that site. Any person with a dA account can vote on the polls located on that FArt gallery page, regardless of membership status with the City of Heroes Group page but it is still completely anonymous. I would hope though that folks wouldn't feel the need to pull shenanigans like opening up multiple accounts to get more votes for the FArt contest. Granted, participants can try to get friends to register with dA and participate the FArt polls...and while that could possibly turn it into a popularity contest, the flip side of having more visitors/drawing more members to the group isn't such a bad trade off.
---Edit---
It should be noted that qualifying submissions will be screened by Wassy and put into an organized gallery prior to the commencement of voting. -
All folks with dA accounts who click on the "Join Group" button will automatically join at the member level.
Quote:Like your stuff is junk, Naka. The onus is going to be on the members to keep things in the gallery CoH-related. The admins will assist towards those ends too. Aggelakis is correct. Submissions to the group page are deviations that already exist on the site, Scooter, so you'll have to submit the deviation to your gallery, then to the groups gallery. This is by design, so that the owner of the deviant gets "credit" for the views. You *can* submit art that was either in your Favorites, or from dA in general. However, if you're not the member who owns the deviation, dA will only allow it to be submitted to the gallery if the owner approves it. (The owner will receive a message to accept or deny the submission).
Sweet, man. Thanks for setting that up. Did we ever figure out a simple way to keep the content COH related? (Wouldn't want to clutter up the page with all my other junk.)
If you don't actively click on the "Contribute to this Gallery" thing on the group page, your uploads won't go into the group gallery.
I don't think you can contribute to a group from the upload page, only after you've uploaded the image to your own gallery first?
That's how I understand it, and All signed up.
I think I'm only going to contribute my own stuff to the group though. don't wanna double up on anything.
Folks, to avoid double posting in the Groups page, please submit any CoH-Related art to the galleries themselves via the "Contribute to the Gallery" button on this page...
http://cityofheroes.deviantart.com/gallery/
Let's keep the Favorites section reserved for nonCoH-related art. I've gone ahead and move the CoH stuff in the favorites to the appropriate galleries.
If you're a member of the Group already and you wish to be listed as a "Commission-able Artist" please send me a note via dA. Also, spread the word and direct folks to join the group on dA and start more stuff! The Rogues' Gallery in particular needs Villains and Villainesses! -
Quote:If you go to the gallery...Where should it be submitted to? Some of the galleries seem closed.
http://cityofheroes.deviantart.com/gallery/
and click on the button that says "Contribute to this Gallery"
a pop-up window will appear. The system is a bit buggy and will indicate that you do not have permission to submit to the gallery. The pop-up window will have options however for you to submit a deviation from either your own gallery, your favorites, or a deviation from elsewhere on the site. On the very top of the window is a drop-down menu that should list the sub-galleries you can contribute to. Select the appropriate Gallery for the deviation you want to submit. The reason why folks can only submit to certain folders right now is because I feel the page should be organized and relatively cluttered free. The admins will be responsible for specific galleries and making sure images are classified properly. Just to reiterate...
The Heroes, Heroines, Villains, Villainesses folders are for single-character pinups only...the Team-Ups and Showdowns galleries are for any art including multiple characters. Group Battles gallery reserved for art that could be considered both a Team-Up and a Showdown.
Quote:Excuse while I force you to explain things to me like unto a child... Do you want all of my CoH inspired artwork (character commissions, really) submitted to the group or just one or two pieces? As in, do you want five or six pieces of Polish Princess or just one or two? And the same for my other characters who have artwork. -
Quote:All CoH players and fans are welcome to join. Anyone who clicks the "join group" button will be accepted automatically as a member to the group.*waves to everyone*
My account is mutantcanuck.deviant.com. I'd be happy if i would be able to join. Thanks!
All members of the City of Heroes Group are allowed to contribute their existing deviations to the Screenshots Gallery, and several sub-galleries located on this page...Heroes, Heroines, Villains, Villainesses, Team-Ups, Showdowns, Group Battles. The Heroes, Heroines, Villains, Villainesses for single-character pinups only...the Team-Ups and Showdowns galleries are for any art including multiple characters...with the Group Battles gallery reserved for art that could be considered both a Team-Up and a Showdown.
Start submitting your favorite deviations from your own dA gallery!
Quote:Submitted some favorites, was never sure about etiquette for gift art (favorite/collect vs. saving and re-posting in my own gallery with proper credit of course) -
----Update----
The Group Application has been approved!
I've sent out invitations to the first 22 folks who wanted in. Apparently there's a limit as to how many invites can go out at the time. Please check your dA accounts for your invitations and accept them. Everyone else, please head on over to...
http://cityofheroes.deviantart.com/
And join from the page. I'm still exploring the features and getting to know the system, as well as determine a good way to organize the galleries and keep it easy to maintain organization. Keep in mind that this feature is also in Beta so it will be buggy to navigate through and use. -
-
I already saw your name all over MechAngel's special commission list! Got enough cards there?
-
All people looking to get in on this have been noted and will be in the first wave of invites (assuming the application's approved).
As far as ideas go for organization of the page...I was looking into getting multiple pinup galleries organized by alignment and gender. I was also thinking of getting "rollcall" folders where all members are encouraged to submit one (and only one) picture (or screenshot) of their signature character. Multiple character pieces will get their own folder. There will also be a separate gallery for FArt contest submission as well as a section to promote/link to artists available for commission work. -
Hey folks. While I'm waiting for dA to process the City of Heroes Group application, I thought I'd just make a post about a particular section of my gallery that isn't particularly well-traversed.
I don't have any particular attachments to any of my alts/characters, so most of my collection efforts focused on Bayani art. There are instances though where I want something non-Bayani related, so when I see an artist who has a noteworthy body of work and is offering to draw requests/commissions, I toss other players' characters at them just to see what they can do. It's also a good way to give them a chance to pimp their own work to the CoH community. You can find the gallery of past art I've snagged for other people here...
Bayani's CoH Universe Gallery
So here's a chance for you to snag some free art. Just toss me clear screenshots of your character along with a concise, well-written bio (And only one submission per person, mind you. I don't mint money and I don't want my PM folder to get flooded. Here's a sample of what I consider clear screenshots - http://i46.tinypic.com/2zrnipt.jpg ). If, during my casual browsing through dA and various art sites, I find a suitable artist who would draw your character very well, I might just commission him or her. Just bear in mind, this whole deal is up to my discretion and character concepts/designs that I think are "pretty neat" will get selected. No promises, however. This is only a casual thing I'll be doing on the side if a myriad of different little details somehow align. -
*settles in at the baccarat table, with alot of l00t*
I'll be done in about...3 minutes.
*hands Eat_Me the vodka bottle she requested*
Oh, a contact of mine is offering some very reasonably priced art for the holidays. If you're looking for a little something for yourself, check out her work here! MechAngel2002
I'm also still accepting screenies of folks' characters. If you want a chance at some free art in the future, feel free to toss screenshots over to me and if I find a good offer down the line, I'll go for it. Here are samples of art I've gotten recently for others.
Bayani's CoH Universe Gallery -
I wasn't saying I didn't like the rules. However, if something along the lines of "no powers" really should have been stated ahead of the time, such as on the flyer announcing the contest. There are people who don't participate in these events on a regular basis. It just seems unfair that someone who did end up using powers would be disqualified or penalized for breaking a rule that wasn't made clear before the contest started.
-
Thanks for hosting the contest, though I do have to agree with Commander about regarding your No Powers rules. Had I known about that particular caveat, I'd have not used it and would've picked up an aura instead. A little clarification ahead of time would've been much appreciated.
-
Heyo fellow collectors.
Artist Diana Greenhalgh's opened up some special commission offers for the holiday season. Just thought I'd plug her art here. Head on over to her dA page for details!

Though a few days ago, I asked if anyone wanted some free art sometime as I like to fill out the "CoH Universe" section of my dA gallery as well as "audition" new artists for future commissions. Eat_Me volunteered her character, Nurse White and I managed to find an interesting artist to work on it.
Nurse White
