Bokuman's piece is nice, but pretty standard fare...par for the course for him. ToT's work stands out because he used a dynamic perspective there, which made a relatively static pose look more powerful.

I kinda like that shade there. I wonder how it'd look with lighter yellows for the hair and spines.

Quote:I think the only way he can really defend is is if he's turned around but that wouldnt showcase Bayani as well. I can add a word balloon for mae later when going into colors I suppose which could clarify matters too. The window for revisions at this stage is closed.I'm still thinking that one of Bayani's swords should be posed in a way that is blocking at least one of the Sky Raiders. While the new pose looks a lot more energetic, it almost seems like he's attacking Mae-Day. If he was actively defending, it would make their relationship a lot more clear in the piece.

Thanks, Thornster. I thought about that too, but I figure Bayani would prioritize keeping his balance on the skiff, and use his senses and counting on his sidekick's piloting skills to weave through incoming fire. I am a bit concerned too that the speed might not come through on the piece, but I trust the artist will come through here with the finer details. Sal's a long-time pro in the business.

I've been working with artist Sal Velluto on a Bayani vs. the Sky Raiders piece. This is probably one of the most complicated pieces I've had done, next to the two page splash. My proposed idea was for Bayani to be leaping from Mae-Day's "borrowed" skiff and crashing through the cockpit of another Sky Skiff in a mid-air chase. This was his counter-proposal of sorts. I liked the idea of Bayani deflecting incoming blasts as he and Mae-Day were being chased and appreciated the forethought Sal had in creating room for a Cover Logo and blurb but I wanted something that didn't look too static.
Second revision. The Sky Raiders were moved to fill up the negative space. Bayani's pose is changed to something a little more Silver Surferish so he doesn't look as awkward. The buildings were created a bit taller to clarify the perspective and better indicate that Bayani/Mae-Day are falling fast with maximum danger and no escape, which heightens the action. -

I thought I'd test out his painting and have him color the She-Hulk piece. I'm curious to see how he'll do with it.

That's a very detailed model sheet, though I think alot of those handwritten notes would be unnecessary if the model sheet had a turnaround. You know what they say, a picture's worth a thousand words etc etc.
I don't know if Brandon's taking any additional work, though. When we last chatted a month or so ago, he was extremely busy with storyboards and other professional work. -
Hm...who else got model sheets done? I'm sure there was a collector or two who did it years ago... *ponders*
Model sheets are pretty standard fare; even easier than pin ups. They don't need to be super-awesome; just clear enough to highlight all the important details but leave enough room so that artists who reference them in the future don't over-interpret them and draw the character from the model sheets exactly to the letter. -

Thanks, LJ, you didn't have to though. I have a pretty solid plan for the final 14. =) Well...13 now I guess. Hm. Maybe 10 because I do have three other pieces in the works...

Final Pencils for the cover to Community. The revisions worked out pretty well. The only changes I have in mind would probably be to remove the muscle outlines in the jacket and replace them with basic folds in the fabric so it doesn't look skin tight. maybe have the back of the jacket fall more naturally. The lighting on the left side of the body needs to be tweaked a bit; seems odd that the logo's visible even though that side appears to be shadowed in.

Quote:I always relied on simple screenshots; though having someone else with a high end graphics card taking the screenshots for you helps.I've done that in the past, but the in-game camera's limitations drive me nuts. I did have a ref. sheet done for one of my guys last year, and it was great; it captured angles that you wouldn't normally be able to, and from a closer vantage point.
Here for instance...all the details are captured just right.

Very nice character design. Looks iconic.
