  1. Maybe we could raise a class action (Stateside) against Worlds.com for something? NCSoft can always move NorCal over here to the UK. I'm reasonably sure that U.S patent laws don't apply globally. If a company gets attacked like that, they can always pull out. Imagine the uproar that would create in the US. You can't hit a target if it ain't there any more. Unlikely to happen though
  2. LOL

9 pages, and most of it is spawned by trollers. PvP aside, Massively are usually on the ball as far as predictions are concerned. SWTOR is number one in their recent successful predictions.

I'm thinking that the COX old dog has plenty of life left in her still, and she's got loads of new tricks up her sleeves. Take a good look at the AION trailers. I can see the shadow shard, lots of move from COX (Including plenty of new ones) gorgeous landscapes and distance fog () The COX engine was custom built. NCSoft own it completely since they bought it off Cryptic (Who technically no longer exist since being bought) and they've thrown a team of 30+ eager developers at it. Nothing personal, but I13/I14 (While substantial) is not full time employment for such a large team of developers. Maybe 4-5, but not 30+!

2009 is going to ring in the changes in more ways than one. I'm seriously looking forward to what the Dev's have in store for us all, and I think it's going to be bigger than anyone imagined. I have my suspicions that the game engine was used to generate the original trailers that can be found on YouTube. Heck, take a look at Doom3, Crysis and its current brethren. There's a level of realism there that the game deserves to have, and by previous comments is more than capable of producing! Bring it on Dev's! Make it shine! Let's really see what COX is made of, and put CO and DCUO to shame. You have the engine, you have the capability and above all you have the community of players... Do us proud!!

(edited to correct drunken grammar )
  3. See article here:
    http://www.massively.com/2008/12/27/...t-for-in-2009/

What do we think guys'n gals? COH with the Aion engine slapped on the front? I think 2009 is going to be really big for the game. We'll have competitors, and NCSoft pulling every trick in the book to keep us hooked to our online superhero addiction.

Oh, and congrats to the NCSoft COH team for winning the Korean award for best action MMO game.

    Server Crash?

Union's back now. Wonder what happened?
  5. Ban_Sidhe

    Server Crash?

Same here. On BT broadband with 25-1 contention. Internet is fine, but no connection to servers.
  6. Flight. There's no animation for flight, other than your character is horizontal. This may be asking WAY too much, but it would be nice to have a little tilt in the direction of your turn? It would make flight just that little bit more realistic IMHO.

Oh, and a barrel-roll animation would be nice too, that could be added to the flight emotes. Take the current emotes and add the barrel-roll to each one, e.g. /e flypose 4 is actually flypose 1 with a barrel-roll.

    Graphics Upgrade

A better population algorithm for the cities would be nice. Everyone walks in an orderly fashion like they're on parade. Especially in St.Martial
  8. Ban_Sidhe

    Graphics Upgrade

NCSoft do have the licenses to the Unreal engine, but while it might be a pipe-dream, I doubt that they'd be able to port the server mechanics given its custom structure. Then again, they're pulling in more staff all the time (30+ dev's now) so maybe we'll see something really spectacular.

Liz, I absolutely agree with the PhysX fix. As it's older sibling is already supported. I wonder how much time it will take to fix the game to pick up the NVIDIA drivers instead? Of course, if there's any dev's hovering around, some hints might be nice
  9. Ban_Sidhe

    Graphics Upgrade

With all due respect, I didn't complain. Personally I hate "The Other Game's" graphics, you know, the one with the recent "Angry dead persons revenge" add-on. I came away from that with a bad taste in my mouth and the urgent need to wash it away with some immediate villainy!

What can we look forward to? Does anyone actually know what the engine is capable of? FFM? You know lots of numbers
  10. Ban_Sidhe

    Graphics Upgrade

So... Posi's said that we could have a graphics upgrade to give us the extra prettiness needed to combat the new kids on the block CO and DCUO.

At the moment it's been stated that we're not really seeing the full potential of the engine. That's good, but just what is the engine capable of? Any ideas? Were the original trailers done with the engine running full-on? I'd like to see:

    1. Maintain the current sliders that make the game "usable" for lower level graphics cards, as some won't be able to get the latest greatest.
    2. Update to let us use the NVIDIA version of physx

What graphical loveliness can we expect to see from NCSoft in 2009? Ideas are welcome. And yes, I know, the graphics don't make the game. But the potential newbies will automatically go for the nicest looking ones.
  11. How about just living in them? I'd love an apartment in one of Cap's sky scrapers.
  12. While it's off-topic, maybe they should add bank jobs to PvP as well as keeping the current PvE ones. That would make for a good chase sequence as well.
  13. I13 character generator can import/export costumes!!! I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to upload the definition to the server. It's what happens after that that will be the difficult bit.
  14. Ban_Sidhe

    CoX On The Mac

Mildy jealous. The Mac users will be easy to spot as they'll all be using their Valkyrie special costume bits and TP'ing straight to mission entrances.
  15. Ban_Sidhe

    I13 screenies!

So... Wonder what those 4 coloured dots at the bottom right of the talsorian shield demo are for? They're definitely not in the current char generator. Shield colour selection?
  16. Ban_Sidhe

    Vista Question

COV/H runs just fine under Vista x64 as well. I've seen the bug as well, but it's quite rare and even rarer if you're using the WHQL drivers from NVIDIA.
  17. Just thought I'd log in, and see if the EU test server had the updates that the US are seeing. IT HAS! The new toboggon ride is insane!
  18. Order badges, acheivments etc. alphabetically, or at least give the option to order alphabetically. That would be a great relief.
  19. Ban_Sidhe

    Why CoX Rocks!

But what about the Duvet of Ultimate defence? Ninja's can't get through that!

The Character Generator is second to none. Full stop. End of story. Tried DDO, WoW and AoC and even though the game engine is over 4 years old now (And has it's faults) Char gen blows the other MMO's out of the water and into orbit without engines and a painful reentry burn to top it off.

There is nothing around at the moment that compares.
  20. Well, lets see:
1.turn the ground white by not loading the colour maps. This would have to be a toggle, so probably quite a big code change.

    2. Add random piles of white stuff. While I was flying around there's pile of debris in cap that failed to load their maps too, and were quite good at passing for piles of snow

    3. footprints. Huge. Not even the snow run in Pocket D's does that. Did anyone notice?

Perfection ain't gonna happen. We can dream. But the general idea wasn't so much that it was snowing, but the general ambience of Cap changed considerably just because of the white floor. As this was caused by the maps failing to load, it seemed a relatively low code impact alternative. Personally? I'd rather see at least an attempt at a global environment change that gave the initial impression of something like snow, than nothing at all. All the trees seem to be either full on green, or stuck on autumn.

It's unlikely that anything will change, but like I said, we can but dream.
  21. Right, before we air this'ol roasted Chestnut, the screenshots below are in-game and the result of a bug. Possibly a fortuitous one. I don't know. But hey! There is no photoshop involved, or any other graphics manipulation...

For some reason some of my environment maps got corrupted and didn't load large chunks of the floor. When I logged in first, I thought "What the?!" Then I took a quick look around. Here's some screenshots:
    Snow1
    Snow2
    Snow3
    Snow4
    Snow5

Ok. So rain is out of the question. We can maybe get a pea-souper fog (ala Dark Astoria) But I'm wondering if snow might actually be not too hard? Cap actually felt quite chilly, and simply because the game had a white floor. Just that! A white floor. Would any dev's like to make a comment?

Again, I re-iterate, this was a game bug through and through. But sometimes bugs can lead you along a new track you never considered before.
  22. So even if someone specifically tells the zone that they are not interested in PvP they are to be ignored and ganked. Full stop. The end. You don't care if they don't fight back. You don't care, that you don't get anything for stomping on someone. You just don't care about the player on the other end of the character.

Hmmmmm. Sounds familiar. It's not a particularly spectacular leap of inference, so I won't say it. But that's what the PvP zones amount to if you enter them but don't want to PvP.

And as for denying the PvP'ers content. That's complete rubbish. The content is just as viable from any other zone. The only thing in the PvP zones that is directly attributable to those zones is reputation. Which, Tah Dah! Expires over time.

The Dev's put PvE content in the PvP zones

[/ QUOTE ]The content in PvP zones is PvP content.

I disagree. For instance, to get the ouroboros portal it is assumed that you have come across time-travel. Barring a few missions that you have to hunt for, the only sure-fire way to get it is to visit a PvP zone like RV. The megalomaniac accolade could easily be placed somewhere other than RV. etc...
  24. I suppose it comes down to PvP vs PvE. It's always a hot topic. Not to mention there appears to be a general consensus (Please correct me if I'm wrong) that COX PvP is a bit broken. Sometimes PvP can be fun, if you're in the mood. But if you just want to get one PvE character to be all it can be you have to grind through the absolute misery that some of the PvP zones are.

I broadcast in zone that I'm in the zone only for pillboxes farming, and I'm not interested in PvP. If any villain attacks me, I don't fight back, hosp and back to pillboxes, if same villain attacks me again immediately, that shows me that that player is not interested in PvP at all (no rewards for defeating me 2 times in less than 1 min) but in making other players game experience miserable and I leave the zone until a better moment.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Not always true.

I often go after the same target in a PvP zone more than once, if I've managed to take them down once already. Not because I want to ruin their gaming experience, but because they agreed to become targets, and I want to have some fun. The rewards mean nothing to me, and unless I've been hugely misled, attacking the same person more than once is not against the rules of PvP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Exactly, that is what I was talking about. Players having fun attacking other players that don't fight back, once and again and again and again and... So funny, indeed. That's why there are always same faces in PvP zones.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you don't fight back: your choice, your problem.
If you don't fight back a second time: your choice, your problem.
If you fight back and don't win: your fault.

I'm afraid you cannot blame PvPers for this, but rather sore losers or those who expect to be left alone when entering a PvP zone.

    <Start Rant>
Ok. Small, tiny, itsy bitsy question...
How do I get the various badges and things in a PvP zone if I'm primarily a PvE person and want, say, an accolade power? I have ZERO interest in PvP, but I have to put up with being hounded by idiots who ignore a simple "Please, I'm just here to get a badge" broadcast? I'm not a sore loser. I don't WANT to be in the zone, but I have no choice.

So. I want the badge. I don't want to bash other players over the head, because I just don't find it fun. But I respect that other players want to PvP. In fact, I've seen some pretty good fights between PvP'ers in RV. The main problem is that other PvP'ers have no respect for those who don't want to PvP and are in that zone for other reasons. The Dev's put PvE content in the PvP zones to encourage people to go into the zones and PvP. Unfortunately it means the PvP zones aren't fun. If you want to kill each other, fine. But respect those who aren't interested, and stop acting like a 5 year-old having a temper tantrum when the Stalker that's following his bait around turns you into a one-hit-wonder
