If this is indeed the first of a new revenue stream, you gotta think that they will learn and grow them, as they have for other aspects of the game. It might start off rocky, but end up killer.

Hard to judge anything from this first attempt. It being tailored to the V-Day event probably is a factor too. Imagine if they did something similar for Halloween?

One reason why they might be offering it via a purchase is these are very much things for V-Day and the V-Day event. They are bonii to enchance the event and not really that key to gameplay outside of the event.

So sure, you can make it available to everyone, but they are meant more so for the event and how many people will actually notice the additions? Or you can charge for it, draw attention to it that way, and people who are really into the game can go that extra mile and get some cool stuff that is unique and they will definitely use.

So the cast of The Wire is heading towards sci-fi projects, as one is on "Lost", one will be on Heroes, and I believe one is in the new JJ Abrams TV show that will be X-Files-like.
