Ah, THIS is the stuff you need to be doing in safe mode. Don't worry about accessing the game right this sec. We are wondering if there's more wrong with your system than just CoH at this point.
Quote:Robo: right off hand, there's something /really/ screwy with your computer then.
***
Okay, here's what I'd like you to do.
First: go here and follow the instructions on this webpage: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/0...elcome-screen/
Second: Reboot the computer:
as the computer starts up, start tapping the F8 button.
Yes, I'm sending you into safe mode.
According to this post: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...2&postcount=11 :: you are using Vista/Win7.
You should be presented with click-login with your username.
There may also be another login labeled Administrator
If there is, I want you to login as Administrator. If there is not... go ahead and just log-in with your existing username.
***
Now, logged in as (hopefully) the admin in safe mode, NOW try to go open up the netinfotool_allOS_USEU.exe file.
If you still get an error where the program will not launch, your computers ability to understand binary executable files is damaged. -
Also good I believe to make sure it's running as Administrator.
-
You're getting unknowns in CoH Helper because you're using the old one. The new one has been updated for i17.
Did some searching on the error. Seems to typically be a CPU or MB fault from what I see. -
Well I think I saw an announcement that they're taking Virtue down for maintenance, (or have done so), you might wait and see if that fixes the issue.
-
Well the point of a fresh install is to remove all the old stuff and replace with new. What a partial overwrite would do, I've no idea. Something else you could try that I thought of is see if there are any ini files and if such files have a keyboard entry you can change. I'm not at my machine so I can't look to see if any exist, but that's the only 'easy' way I can think of to fix it.
-
Well Support would be your only avenue of redress for that. I can't imagine it hurting to at laest try. Not like you have anything to lose by opening a ticket on the matter.
-
Have you upgraded your video and sound drivers to latest? That might help.
-
Um, all of them? I don't think the installer exactly gives you any choices as to what to download or not anyways. I suppose if you have an install disc of any sort you could install from there and then have the updater update you the rest of the way. But I'm a bit doubtful as to whether that would save you much, if anything. Beyond that, plead with Support and see if they can mail you an up to date 'i17 install disc' of some sort? Find a friend with less restrictive bandwidth you can 'borrow'?

Try lowering your graphics a touch and see if that has any effect. The usual culprit there I think for that sort of thing is that your card's frame buffer isn't getting cleared properly and so what you're seeing is 'leftover' frames or partial frames still in the card's memory. Lowering your graphics ought to make the card work a little less hard and stop that from happening.

Quote:Perhaps not intentionally but it can still happen by accident, via a virus or other malicious code, or just a general glitch in your system. Stuff happens.I am at college right now, when I get home I will do this. By the way, I haven't done anything that would corrupt my user account.
To err is human, to really foul things up takes a computer. -
Yep, try that and if you can, do these as well and post results:
- CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
- HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.
But do them in 'regular mode' so we get the best info. -
Sounds like some further testing is in order. If it consistently seems linked to playing for awhile rather than starting up as soon as you log in then I'd tend to think it isn't necessarily any background processes. Though you can certainly try turning off any that you don't absolutely need to play and see what happens.

Quote:Did he use a program like Driver Sweeper (http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/) when updating the video drivers? Using it after uninstalling the drivers can help as it will clean out leftover bits. Helps keep any old driver components from interfering with the new ones.Im going to jump on this thread. My buddy is having the same error message when he tries to load CoH. Im going to include his first email to me and once he forwards the CoH helper data to me Ill post it as well.
Ive had him update his video and mother board drivers and hes still getting the same error.
His email to me:

Not sure what I can send here is what I get.
I have a MSI N250GTS Nvidia card with the Geforce 250 GTS chip and 1024 Mb DDR3 memory. That is the only change in my system since I last played.
I start the game and get
Error message #1
Your card or driver doesn't support ARB_multitexture
hit OK
Error message #2
Your card or driver doesn't support ARB_texture_compression
Hit ok
Then I get a message about my detected video card or driver is not currently supported.
If I select yes, the program crashes.
I went to Nvidias website and got the latest driver. I followed your link and set everything as shown both high and low end still no good.
Ill take any help I can.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Thanks! -
The exact same symptom as before or different somehow? And you're sure it didn't start till 2.5 hours of play?
-
Have you been able as yet to run the network tool? It would help if you could. I suspect Support will want you to.
-
CaptainPulsar, I don't know if it matters but I note you appear to be using a French version of Windows but your video driver is listed as being English. I don't know that it makes a bit of difference but you might see if you can get a French driver to match the OS. TexasJustice links above to the drivers you need and a cursory perusal shows a dropdown where you can select a language.

Try making sure the updater is running as an Administrator. Check the properties of the shortcut/exe and on, I believe, the compatibility tab you should see a checkbox for 'Run as Administrator'. Make sure that is checked. Then try again.

Difficult to say but there's a number of folks in this thread who seem to be having a similar issue and I think they're all on wireless as well: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219437

Quote:I have that exact gizmo here at work. Works like a charm.Hard drives are almost universally considered customer removable units. I bought a $25 device that allows me to hook up standard desktop and laptop IDE and SATA drives through a USB interface. Looks kind of like this one.
Your laptop manufacturer's website probably has detailed instructions on hard drive removal for your system.
Glad you managed to save your data Finduilas. Hope they can get you fixed up pronto. -
Quote:Including that would be good though I'd be curious to know what that switch actually does before I were to use it if I had the need. I personally don't know but a little explanation would be good just so folks know what they're getting.Wonderful information Back_Blast!
Also, the -useTexEnvCombine information here would be useful:

Note that this is mainly for people with integrated Intel video and unable to get into the game after making sure their drivers are up-to-date. This is not for people who are able to get in the game already.
Also, a mention of safe mode might be handy:
"When clicking on I agree from the second launcher window, there's a little box that says Safe Mode." -
Well you're behind a service pack on your Windows for starters and it could pay to update your video drivers. See here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...fessional/Home for the latest available for your card. Your sound drivers are also pretty old though it's less likely they are part of the problem. See: http://support.creative.com/Products...T=CategoryID:1 for new ones.

Quote:That's what I have as well. It's a very solid board. (Seriously, nobody sensible would call it flimsy). And Tom's Hardware named it a recommended buy. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...gbps,2614.htmlThis is what I have in my rig, its about $200 US.
