    CoH Problems

Sounds like more testing is in order. But it's quite possible some server lag was at fault depending on the circumstances at the time.
  2. Ah, Intel graphics. I17 has been a bear for folks with those. Couple things you can try. Run the game in safe mode and see if the issue vanishes. If it does, up your graphics slowly, noting whether the problem returns until you find acceptable settings where the problem is gone. To enable safe mode, in the updater when you get to the TOS screen but before clicking Accept, select the Safe Mode check box. This will force the game to run at minimum graphics.

You can also try the -useTexEnvCombine switch and see if that helps.

    1. Right click on your CoH shortcut
    2. Click on Properties
    3. Click on Shortcut tab at top
    4. Go to Target window which should show: "C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"
    5. After the last " press space once
    6. Enter the following code exactly: -useTexEnvCombine
    7. Click on Compatibility tab and make sure the Run as Administrator checkbox is selected
    8. Click Apply and then Ok
  3. You could try forcing the updater to do a verify of your files. That ought to make it update you to the proper version.

Edit: Okay so I did a search for 'ati 10.4 drivers' and found a different site on AMD's site...game.amd.com....whatever. However in the release notes that I found for 10.4 it doesn't say it supports the X800 series of cards.
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx is the site where I found the 10.4. Would the driver still work for the X800 card?
That would be because you have a 'legacy' card. Which is a nice way of saying they no longer really support you. So 10.2 is the best you can get unfortunately.
  5. Please download and run CoH Helper and paste the output here. That will give us some more useful info to work with.

    Lisa.
I vote for something in Texas. There's bound to be a Con in Dallas that would work. How about the Dallas Comic Con? http://www.scifiexpo.com/DCC/dallascomiccon.html I'm sure there will be at least a handful of superhero fans there.
  7. Ok, your system memory and page file are pretty small, especially by current standards. I'd increase both. You don't even technically meet the requirements stated by Microsoft to run your OS: http://windows.microsoft.com/systemrequirements

Beyond that, it looks like you're using Microsoft drivers for your card. The latest ATI drivers available for you are here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...-Bit%20Edition These are Vista drivers but they should still work. Official Win7 drivers for your card don't exist and likely never will due to your card's age. ATI considers your card to be a 'legacy' card so it's no longer formally supported.

Really though, you do need to be thinking about a system upgrade. At least to the memory and video card. Those two alone would definitely improve your system performance.

Well there are 10.2 drivers available for your card: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...-Bit%20Edition I think they are newer than what you have.

You might also look for the ATI Hotkey Poller service and disable it. It has been reported to cause input delay issues for some folks.
  9. If you want to game, a desktop is the way to go. You can get a lot more power and performance from them than a laptop when it comes to gaming and they're considerably easier to upgrade down the road.
  10. System specs and drivers look ok. Try turning your graphics down and see if that makes any impact. You could also try running in safe mode and see what happens there too. When the updater gets to the TOS bit where you have to 'Agree', look for the little check box that says safe mode and click it. That will drop your graphics to minimum. If it's graphics-related, that should make the problem go away and you can slowly up your settings. If you still have issues, the problem may lie elsewhere. You might also get us a HijackThis report so we can see what else you're running. http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/
  11. Donoman99, check this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219502 for info on updating video drivers. Get yours updated and see if that helps.
  12. For something that oddly specific, Support may be your best bet. The only reasonable thing I can think to suggest is having the updater verify your game files or perhaps even removing and reinstalling the game altogether. It could be there's some small corruption in your game files somewhere causing it.

Shader options still greyed out, game running the same as before I uninstalled/reinstalled.

I'm having a lil trouble finding driver for my sound card. I found 'Gateway Sigmatel Audio', 'Intel Q45 Sigmatel Audio', not sure which one I should use since control panel says my device is called 'sigmatel audio' only. Sounds are normal as always were in the game tho if that matters.

    Thanks for helping!

EDIT: Ran Uniblue driver scanner 2010 and it only showed one outdated driver for wireless, which I don't even use in this computer... Maybe my sound card driver is up to date?
For the video driver, I'd say give it another go just to be sure. I'd suggest using Driver Sweeper but it doesn't work on Intel drivers that I know of. There is another program called Driver Cleaner: http://www.drivercleaner.net/ which claims to work on Intel drivers, among others, but they do charge for it so it isn't free. Whether it would be worth it to you I couldn't say. You might at least look at it and make your own mind up there.

Since you're on a Mac, you may have to contact Apple to find out for sure what audio chipset you have. I did some Googling but couldn't find a definitive answer. Once you know that, you can search for whatever the latest are for it. I suppose you could try a bit of trial and error to see what you can find that will work but I'd avoid that if I could.
  14. A question, did the video card come with this PC? Acording to my research, the 5850 is not a standard card for your PC model. Despite having a 750W PSU, I'm wondering since it is a Dell PSU, if the power it's putting out is still not enough for the card if the card is a self upgrade. I wouldn't be at all suprised if it had multiple 12V lines and the one(s) you're using to feed the card aren't strong enough.
  15. Glad to hear you managed to get the upgrade done. I hope it's working well for you.

Download the latest drivers for your card from the manufacturer as well as Driver Sweeper: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

Use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the current drivers. If it then tries to reinstall, cancel out and don't let it.

    Reboot into safe mode.

Run Driver Sweeper and have it clean out any driver bits it finds.

Reboot to regular mode and install latest drivers.
  17. A bit unlikely but I will note your sound drivers are old. Might see if they can be updated. Also, you might consider having the game updater do a verify on your game files just in case something is not quite right there. You might even try a defrag of the drive just to see if a little drive optimization helps. Kinda grasping at straws beyond what X and TJ suggested but could be worth trying.
  18. Well there looks to be something wrong with your sound and video drivers. I'd suggest updating as well. Uninstall what you have, run driver sweeper, and then install the latest available for your hardware. That tends to clear up a lot of issues.
  19. Well if Nvidia no longer makes drivers, odds are any that come with 7 will be no better than whatever is the latest from Nvidia. You can certainly try it but I suspect it won't make much difference.

The only other alternative I can think of is to go here: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ and try the Nvidia drivers from them. These are 'tweaked' drivers that should run on most any Nvidia hardware out there and are based on the latest official Nvidia drivers. As they are modified, they are unofficial but Omega Drivers have been around for ages and generally know what they're doing. It may not help but you can give it a try.
  20. Excellent. Good to hear it!
  21. As you can see in this satellite photo, the polar ice cap has in fact broken into twelve large chunks due to global warming which scientists believe could at any moment aggro southward bringing death and destruction across the globe.

lol j.k. MB stands for motherboard. Another possibility could be a power issue. Once everything gets to a higher load, it may be causing problems. Even f it worked before, power stability can degrade over time, as well as any piece of hardware.

Also worth checking to be sure all your fans are running properly. Heat can cause all sorts of unusual problems.
