I don't think you have covered everything.

I think if it was a goal to have blasters as easy to play as the other ATs then they needed a buff, but that was just people seeking a foolish consistency. Not everything has to be the same and when you try to make everything the same you alienate people that cherished the differences.

When you talk about depth to the game I agree, but if you increase the power of blasters in the game you take away part of the skill development needed to play them.

    Refunds?

    Got My Refund

70 some odd dollars so I guess I won't be taking NCsoft to small claims court.

Odds are that the real task would be to get Hami to spawn - that requires taking on the Giant Monster DEs in there and killing a random number of them. (Has been as few as five DE other times has taken as long as 45 minutes or so.)
Hmmm as few as 6 you say but not on protector hmmm

Time to look at City of Data and find a time to do this.

I think..this was before IOs, or just after, but we only got a few down before getting bored and inviting more friends. Ended up a big raid.

About a year or so back, I wanted to do a single team raid and got 7 friends to join me. We each parked Alt toons by the bomb gates, cause it would not let us tag them, even if we quit the team.

This was on Freedom, so of course we ended up with a few hangers on popping up, but it was basically just us. Really fun.

Did you guys end up getting the GM out?
We got the GM on a later run we did on test. But even buffed to the gills with amplifiers/team insps/ and every temp we could grab we couldn't put a dent in him.

We got the GM but only had 10 minutes with shields down.
  7. It really was great fun.

    RUSH the RIKTI!!

I am sorry guys don't blame Jane Denton or whoever made the comment.

I was out of things last night and had physical discomfort that kept taking me AFK. I wound up with the star somehow and didn't realize I gave it to a 45.

No other game lets you reduce the recharge on powers like you can in CoH, no where even close to what you can do in CoH.

Things like Blaze recharging in under 3 seconds or Foot Stomp recharging in under 6 seconds would NEVER happen in other games. Alot of other games use auto attacks to fill in attack chains while waiting for long recharges, CoH was in a good place where it really didn't need that. TBH if long recharges was your complaint, it wasn't CoH's fault.

CoH actually deserves a bit of praise in regards to the pace of combat, especially in regards to movement. One of the big things that drew people to CoH's PvP (prior to i13) was because CoH PvP was very fast.
I don't have much experience with other current MMOs but that doesn't seem right. I gave CO a try and my level 5 marksman can shoot nearly continuously. I also gave WoW a try and my level 4 hunter can just keep up a withering level of fire.

I am trying to work through all the flashbacks before the end and noticed the wait for recharge on my crab. It seemed really annoying that a crab with a 20 billion inf build when exemped to level 9 felt worse, than unenhanced low level toons in the other games.

That brings up something else I won't miss,

WHY AREN'T Alan Desslock's in flashback ? How can you replay soldiers without them ?

    ::NODS::

I am sure the game will find a home with wonderful people, surely such wonderful people won't mind spelling out how they plan to provide for the games future.

I remember that our ace crew did it with a really small number of people pre incarnate. But that was a long time ago, back when Hami was still Mr. Big Stuff and we could count on our saturday raids.
  13. Whats the fewest people we need to do a Hami Raid ?

Feels like name that toon but looking at I think we can do it with 1 team.
  14. Thanks Mave, for the heads up. I was completely drained when posting those.
  15. First thanks to Miracle Kat, That was the most fun I have had in the game in I can't say when.

We just duoed the mothership. It was a blast took two tries and we had no idea if we could manage it.

Here is a shot of the two of us in the bowl

Here is a better shot, we were both just a little distracted by the rikti.

And here we are at a bomb grate

Im going to miss my soldiers. They really hit the human super soldier perfectly, my only regret is we never got Crabs without the pack.

Lol: Tired from the two runs the title should read an Epic send off for an Epic AT

Edit: really was tired had two of the same shots there

  17. Well I have to take it back, found a challenge in the game my blasters might not be able to handle. Just duoed the mothership with 2 widows. I think I am going to see if it can be done with a blaster before the end.

    Habanero peppers aren't for everyone.

I'd like to reply to the rest of your post but it's pretty much you saying things about how other people play.

That's what matters. That's the only thing that matters.

If you can reject numbers that casually, your subjective opinion of the situation should matter even less to anyone else but you.
You can use numbers to describe how easy or hard a task is, how much effort it takes to complete, how often people manage to complete it, you can't capture the joy people get from success, let alone predict it.

If you want to think about it numerically getting rid of the outlying elements just narrows the appeal of the game.

The data showed there were two kinds of ATs. Controllers, Defenders, Scrappers, Brutes, Tankers, Stalkers, Corruptors, Masterminds, Peacebringers, Warshades, Soldiers, Widows, and Dominators were the first type. They all had relatively comparable average reward earning rates, leveling rates, solo and teaming performance, when averaged across the entire playerbase.

The second type was composed of Blasters. If Blasters were at one end of a continuous range of performance, that theory might at least have some basis in fact. But in fact, every archetype had powerset combinations that in general clustered around the average while blasters uniquely had all of its powerset combinations clustering far away from the average. The reasons for that are complex, but also completely irrelevant.
I am sure you have the numbers down pat, but it's the same way Robert McNamara had the numbers down pat. Which is to say in a way that does no one, any good, at all. You can't measure the enjoyment I got playing my blasters. What I can see is that people stuck with them and played them anyway and got real enjoyment from doing difficult things with them.

In a game where I could fall asleep playing some ATs, blasters never had a dull moment. What's the number for the delight of soloing a pylon with a blaster ? What's the value of soloing an ITF on a blaster ? Soloing the old Positron TF without deaths ?

How much is lost when these challenges are removed from the game or just rendered trivial ? What is the number for the lack of fun.

It doesn't matter of course, your argument about performance gap is really meaningless. There wasn't any task in the game that blasters couldn't handle, prior to the I24 changes. There was a poster way back, who soloed every GM with a blaster without temps or insps. Did they need to be able to take on 2 at a time ? There's posters on this board that have done the scrapper challenges with blasters as well, and I can't think of a TF that has been soloed that hasn't been soloed by a blaster.

Also, I think pre-buff Peacebringers fit that bill better than blasters.
There's 12 ATs. There was room for easy mode brutes/scrappers,controllers,doms, normal mode veats, corruptors, dominators, controllers, stalkers, tanks, defenders, and hard mode Heats and Blasters.

    MARTY

People that got a hair up their behinds because someone else was playing the wrong way, WHILE THEY WEREN'T EVEN PLAYING WITH THEM.

The Really Tall Multilevel Arachnos rooms that had no light.

The system of assigning merit rewards. Just why is Sister Psyche only worth 20 merits as an Ouro ? Positron only 40 ? Why were ouro flashbacks done at the same difficulty settings as tfs worth less ? Why are Eden and Katie worth ridiculously little to this day ?

The insanely long time it took to address problems. Energy melee still not fixed.
