  1. [ QUOTE ]

As for the names thats easy to fix. Whoever has a name used by others has a # put at the end of their name depending in what order their toon was made. No way to get around SGs though.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If I'm moving (or being moved to) a server where my name is taken: I'd better have the option to either rename (for free!) my character or simply avoid the server where the name is already taken.
If I'm minding my own business and finding that someone took my name because thier character has been sitting dormant since I-1 on a different server? Simply: NO.
Names with numbers stuck on the end for no reason usually look stupid.
    [ QUOTE ]

I think the switching servers at will is a good idea, and would make for some interesting situations.

    [/ QUOTE ]
At will? I agree with the poster above that was hesitant about the "At Will" part. Having a reasonable, but limited number of free server transfers is something I could go with.
    [ QUOTE ]

Right now two servers are overcrowded and the rest wasted.

    [/ QUOTE ]
No room in the middle between overcrowded and wasted? Really?
I think you are contradicting yourself.
Overcrowded would give us reason to split Freedom and Virtue into four servers.
Wasted is a matter of opinion, and I clearly do not agree with that opinion.
Allowing server transfers would allow people to choose where they want to play. Forcing server choices upon them by merging some servers and splitting others would not.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
So what youre all basically saying is youre against the idea.

Sorry I spazzed. Listen ive built many a team, and there really is a desolation prob. Today on Protector there were a total of 12 yes 12 toons lvl 16-25 in total. So when I see servers that are even worse I came up w/the suggestion.

    [/ QUOTE ]
What you see as a desolation problem, others see as comfortable. While Protector may feel more like Vancouver, Wa than Vancouver B.C. or even the "NYC" of Freedom, many folks are happy there. Those twelve characters are only a small sampling. Not knowing the time of day, nor which faction (red or blue) you were looking for, or what percentage of the populace plays using the "/hide from search" option, I couldn't tell you much about Protector's population. Twelve should be enough to team. Heck, two is a team. Anyway, I digress.

    [ QUOTE ]

What about players willfully being able to switch their toons for free. Server to server whenever you wish. Yes that would mean the game couldnt make any money in that area anymore, but the increased volume of players activity would make up for it. Might be technically nightmarish, but it might not either. SGs would stay where they are though. Idk. Just thought Id share.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Okay. Free server transfers? I could see that in some cases, with limits.
Perhaps X number of "Free Server Transfer Tokens" added onto the Vet Rewards of 3, 9, 18, etc. months? Definately a finite number, though, I'm sure.

Would you want to transfer to a different, more populated server? Forgetting Freedom or Virtue, I'd suggest Justice or Infinity.

We've pointed out some of the flaws in merging servers, I do hope that you see where we're coming from.

Let's talk about those server transfers.

    The Mailbox!

    You are correct.
I am a fan of disecting an idea with the intent to make it better.

And yes, pointless dissent is not productive.
  4. BBQ_Pork

    The Mailbox!

    [ QUOTE ]
    Absolutely!
Great suggestion. This is something the game has needed for a long time.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Sarcasm, right?
    [ QUOTE ]

I'm sick and tired of relying on someone else to do what I should be able to do on my own with my own stuff (pithy enough reason?).

    [/ QUOTE ]
You can already transfer wealth between characters. You just have to be willing to either have them in the same SG (doing it via expensive enhancements/salvage) or be willing to pay a 10% fee (doing it via the Market).
If you could mail goods back and forth between characters, would you be willing to accept a transfer fee or 'postage' of some sort in return for 99-100% safety of the transfer going through correctly? I would fully expect such a fee, based on the other Inf-sinks in the game. (Why else would costume changes, for example, not be free, other than to be an $Inf-sink)
    [ QUOTE ]

Don't mind the trolls in the suggestion forum. They always say "no" to good ideas. In fact, the more they complain, the better your idea probably is.

[/ QUOTE ] The trolls in here are few. Bad ideas are met with criticism, both the polite and constructive type and the unfortunately unpolite type.
Labelling broad groups of people (such as "anyone who disagrees with X Suggestion") would be negative and perhaps "trollish" behavior, if I may use such a term.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
My suggestions to reduce non-AE farming:

    1. Don't allow players to reset missions.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    I dislike this suggestion.
Let's say that I have a glowie or a foe stuck in a wall. I'd rather just reset the mission and do it again, solving the problem, than to bother sending a report, wasting an amount of my time waiting (I often play in limited windows of oppurtunity of 1-3 hours) and wasting the time of the GM who could be helping other players. Why prevent me from fixing my own problems?

    Reseting missions isn't the problem.

Farming by itself isn't the problem. Heck, the farmers are filling the Market with all those goodies you want to buy and using thier accumulated $Inf to make you rich by buying your drops that you got for free doing missions.
Farmers that annoy by spamming (requests for fillers, blind-invites, etc.) you? The problem there is the spamming, which is annoying no matter what type of spam it actually is.
Farmers that pick up bridges and lowbies and PL them? Now we're getting into PL'ing, which is another can of worms.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
A filter based on keywords could be wiggled around by spaces inside the words, splitting them, or as they've been doing, by mispelling.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not if that filter is Bayesian. A Bayesian filter looks at words, words in proximity to other words, words in relation to other words, etc. It looks at the "language" of spam, not just the individual letters that compose it, and it uses that "language", the composition of advertisements designed to catch the eye and convince the reader to buy, to catch and remove the spam. It's highly effective when it's properly implemented, generally at or above 99% effectiveness, and with false positive counts below 1%.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    That sounds rather clever.
  7. [ QUOTE ]

Do trial accounts really need to be able to send mail?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    For the most part, no.
In the case of giving your pal getting a trial account and telling him "Email my CharacterX your info so we can hook up", yes.

But in that case, I have a solution.
Allow all characters at L1 to send Emails, but have a filter where recievers do not recieve Emails from Trial Accounts unless they turn on a setting (default is off) and have the option to recieve (or not) from strangers (not friends or SG) on paid account by choice of setting.
Guy with friend can turn on "Recieve from trials", get the buddy's character name and they can play together, /friend the buddy, then turn filter back on. Everyone else has spam mail never hitting thier screen.

We used to only have /hide and /unhide. They managed to granulate that and the results are appreciated.
  8. Incarnate Powers. The ideas that I keep coming up with sound a lot like the Patron Pools, each Incarnate Pool would have a different flavor and style, but fairly similar effects.
Like Statesman's 'Zues Pool', has that AoE Lightning strike for example.

By "much stronger" it sounds like you are aiming for making regular characters much more powerful than current L50's. Why then, would anyone want to play non-Incarnates?
The most additional power I'd give them would be to give them a four-power pool, in addition to all the powers that they already have. And have them have to earn the additional powers (and slots) through continued work.
Basicly have to go earn XP, but not have thier levels change. There's no L51+ here!
I'm sorry, but if "much stronger" means giving the equivilent of more levels via increased HP, Defence and ability to hit, then I'd have to disagree with your suggestion. L50's are already plenty powerful, particularly if the player puts any effort into min/maxing.

You said "respec into Incarnate powers", so I'd read that as pretty much a blue-side copy of the PPP's, which I'd agree with, so long as your character doesn't get those in addition to the APP's.

Story-wise, Incarnates would be rare, so I'd limit it to one per account. But first we need to flesh out exactly what the Incarnates would be, in regards to powers and game-mechanics.
  9. Right.
But, give me an example of what you would add (or modify) on an AT like a Tank without making a standard Tank look weak in comparison.

Remember, the Epic AT's are Epic because they're based on the storyline and are a bit more complicated, not because they are more powerful.
  10. I believe that having a L50 (of whatever AT) was labelled as something the Devs decided against for the purposes of future unlockable AT's.

Next: define Incarnates. In what way would they differe from the regular AT's without being more powerful (and thus casting the regular AT's into 'sub-par')?
What's your suggestion for thier powersets to be like? The regular AT's, but with an additional Pool (comperable to the APP's/PPP's)?

Also: I'm not familiar with the Well of the Furies TF. Has there been one written in the AE?
I look forward to this idea being fleshed out a bit more.

Also: Should be in the Suggestions section. Moderator, please move.
  11. That particular website's spammers have been mispelling thier site's name (by one letter) for a little while now, probably because they are expecting a measure like this one.
But the mispelling is close enough, as you have been spammed by it and still recognize it for the real name instead.
A filter based on keywords could be wiggled around by spaces inside the words, splitting them, or as they've been doing, by mispelling.

I feel for ya, buddy. But I feel that the oft-repeated suggestion of a filter on the recieving side for Emails would be a better course of action. (Filtering out Emails based on thier relationship to the reciever: Stranger, Trials, SG&Friends, etc.)

And/or increasing the required level to send Email from L10 to L15, so that disposable FREE trial accounts (cap at L14!) couldn't get PL'ed in minutes to send RMTmail, then dumped, then repeated ad infinitum.

    Farming

    [ QUOTE ]
This is not a rant thread, I would really like some dev answers.
Is farming OK to do or not?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Straight from Lady_Sadako:[ QUOTE ]
Let's not forget what Positron said:

    [ QUOTE ]
I should probably take this moment to talk about what the Mission Architect is not meant for. It is not meant for “easy leveling” or “badging” or “farming”. Those are things that we specifically wanted the Mission Architect NOT to do.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]
Could it just be lip-service paid to make themselves sound anti-farming?
    Maybe.
Having obvious farms pulled tells us that they are acting against farming, at least a little.
Barring the farm-publishers from simply replacing their farms with new ones? That will tell us that they actually mean it. They did state in the introduction that a player can be banned from the AE (from playing or just from publishing?) based on what they publish.

    CoH RTS?

    [ QUOTE ]
It would be the most off the wall fun RTS I'd ever play I can tell you that, easily multi-player, fully customizable armies of hundreds of heroes or villains!

Thought im sure programming such a game would be hard, id play it

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Come to think of it...
You could angle the camera and zoom way out during a Hami raid (or a Rikti (or Zombie) invasion).

Just pretend that you are in charge of ALL the heroes and that some other guy is in charge of Hami and his bud spawn. And of course, that the only reason that your troops aren't responding correctly is due to bugged AI.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
If this game which has been running for 5 years suddenly offered a lifetime subscription that would tell me the game isn't going to be around much longer, and I'd start looking to play something else.

If the game was just starting out, then sure.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I can see where you are coming from and I'm sure that a number of people would have the same suspicions.

Based on some of the numbers I've seen in this thread....
    $300 divided by ($15/month)=20 months.
$250 divided by ($15/mo.)= almost 17 Months worth.
    $200 divided by ($15/mo.)= under 14 months.
At those prices, I would have to either see myself playing for well over those timeframes or have a guarantee that I will get something of at least that high of a value to me in return.

The Lifetime membership would have to come with something else as well. If they were planning a CoH2 and threw in a year of that when it comes out?
Send me a free decent-sized monitor? Heck, I've already paid almost 5 years....*grabs calculator* My $900 could have gotten me something nice.
    Maybe a T-shirt and a keyboard?

    CoH RTS?

Armies of hundreds of superheroes (and the opposing villians) just seems really odd.
    If everyone is super...nobody is.
At some point, the majority of them just become minions, like G.I. Joe vs. COBRA.

    Farming

    [ QUOTE ]

Er..the point here is that its specifically stated in the rules for the AE server that farms will be deleted if found. >>

    [/ QUOTE ]
I shall take the wait-and-see approach.

If they follow up on deleting farms, but do not stop farm-makers from going right back in and making more, then it will be hard to tell. New farms will replace deleted ones so fast that we'll never see the difference.

If they delete farm missions from the AE and ban the makers from making new ones, and do so in a consistant, sweeping manner, making sure to get the majority of them....then we will know that the Powers-That-Be are against farming. And even if someone claims that the GM's don't represent the Devs because the GMs make mistakes sometimes (being only human), it's hard to say that they consistantly go against the Dev's wishes.

Here's a challenge to the pro-farming side of the fence. Do the "Welcome to the AE" introduction and read the whole thing. Tell me that there is nothing against farming.
Now go and select the best farming mission in the AE that you can find, that has a blatant description or better yet TITLE that states that it's for farming. 5-star it. Tell all of your Farming friends to 5-star it. Get everyone on the Farming global channel for your server to 5-star it.
Get that sucker into the "Dev's Choice" or "Hall of Fame".
If I see something titled "Awesome Farming Mish" in there, I will agree that the Devs are Pro-farming and that farming is completely okay.

LOL wouldn't it be funny to /search one day and no one shows up but the server is full?!?!?!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Note to self hide from searches to avoid spam email. Thanks

    [/ QUOTE ]
That only works to hide the day(s) that they are skimming the /search menu to compose new character lists to send Email to.
It's like junk mail. Once they write your name down in thier address books, they continue to send it whether you're online or not.
Eventually, your character might drop off thier list as they compose new lists, but it takes awhile.

[/ QUOTE ]i dont think it works at all, i know im seeing names that get knocked off of my ignore list re-appear at the bottom, two or three weeks later, if im reporting these people to someone, they aren't banning these accounts, or i wouldnt be seeing the same names again and again

I think that you and I are talking about different things.

Yes, I've had characters stop getting RMTmail after I stop playing them for a while.

So THAT'S what those vague commercials on TV are talking about when they advertises "Feminine Protection".

Or This Guy from "From Dusk till Dawn".

    Energy Rifle Set

    I like it.

I would have gone a different direction with it, though.
There is no Aim or similar power. Not knocking that, just noting it.
I would have gone with Energy/Fire for some of the beams, representing lasers and such burning holes through things, -Def being a good secondary effect for that.
I would have made one power (the burst or blast) a three-shot burst, giving (low-moderate) damage in a three-tic DoT, and a chance to Stun.

Death Ray is very interesting, and quite innovative!

    New Add-On Pack

    [ QUOTE ]

    1) A large, new 'None-Load-Time' zone that has spawn ranging from level 1 to level 50 depending on where you are.
    2) A new 'Hamidon' like raid. I would love to see another giant monster (about the size of the hamidon) style raid that requires a huge number of people to take down. Maybe a giant moving-level monster, in which people actually get on the monster and kill it while the monster moves across the level. (I know, probably a lag monster, but if the Devs really sit down and think this through, I don't doubt they could do it, especially with all the great stuff they've already done)
    3) 1 or 2 new pool powers. Maybe take some ideas from the forums about new travel powers.
    4) And of course 1 new global power set for each subclass. 1 new Mastermind primary, 1 Blast set for Corruptors, Blasters and Defenders, 1 new Defense set for Tanks, Brutes and Scrappers, 1 new Attack set for Scrappers, Tanks, Brutes, 1 Control set for Dominators and Controllers and 1 Defense set for Defenders, Controllers, Controllers and Masterminds.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    2) While the different style of GM is interesting, wouldn't it be difficult to get enough people together for a raid if you not only had to have the requisite level characters, but also have purchased the extra pack?
1-4) CoH/CoV has a business model built on the premise that updates are free, unlike other games, and this quantity of stuff is enough to make perhaps 3 issues out of. (At least when you figure some story would be in there as well.) Being locked out of that big of a chunk of the game for not buying the extra pack would not go over well, and look like a cheesy money-grab.
    [ QUOTE ]

Which is about 6 new 'Very Polished and lots of eye candy' power sets. (I would definitely like to see some eye candy sets, the last couple have been really low eye candy (Willpower, Sonics, Shields, Dual Blades). I would like to see some Fireblast, Electric attack for Brutes and Ice control sets that really look nice and really 'pop', visually.

    [/ QUOTE ]
What, you're going to take away, then give back Fire Melee and Electric Melee from our Brutes?
