Quote:I had a hard time thinking of what zone you were talking about until I remembered Redside Hami-raids are possible. I've never participated in one, though. But I guess that counts as a new zone. How much traffic does it see, other than a raid or two per week? The last time they added a non-cop zone to the game, it was for Villains
Since CoV was published, the only other "new" non-coop zone would be the Revamped Faultline. Granted, there was already a zone named Faultline before, in the same location, but it certainly wasn't the same as the new Faultline, nor was it nearly as popular. Old Faultline was like Boomtown for popularity. I remember one hunt mission from a Security Chief, a few explore badges, the occasional Babbage and maybe a brief fly-through on a TF. Am I missing any other content that took place in there? -

Quote:I would applaud that.I have always felt that the devs should 1 time a month, post a list of people that got 3day/perma bans. Not the actual names or anything identifiable, but a list that says:
25 people given 3 day bans for excessive use of profanity ingame
3 people given perma bans for repeat offense
15 accounts banned for RMT activity
That would let people know that yes, they are policing without violating anyones privacy. -
Quote:No one ever forced me to read my rep comments either. I knew they were in there when I deliberately clicked to open the User CP.No one is forcing you to read it. You knew what was in the thread before you clicked on it.
Hmmm.....a bad analogy, perhaps?
(It would have been a whole lot better to just have that the rep section of the User CP collapsed by default, but people would have just clicked one more time to open them and get thier rage on.) -
Quote:I dunno.Anyway, come up with a way to tie names to globals that isn't hideously ugly and i'll consider supporting the suggestion, but every one i've seen so far is a loser in my opinion.
Having:
Quote:Broadcast: CharacterName$$FullGlobalName: Hey guys! Join my SG! It's got a base and stuff!
Chopping off all but the first three of the global would be better, but wouldn't solve the problem.
Quote:Broadcast: CharacterName$$Ful: Hey Guys! Join my SG! It's got a base and stuff!
Broadcast: Awesome Possum$$BBQ: Sorry Dude, already in a SG.
So the "tagging by global" I'm not quite sure about. -
Quick notes about the Ignore feature, which is different from the old forums.
So, you go into the User CP, then scroll down to Edit Ignore List.
There will be a box to type in the name of the poster you wish to ignore.
Start typing thier name and as soon as you put in the first three letters, it will give you a drop-down list of posters. This list has a limit, so if at first you don't see the poster's name, don't worry, it will edit as you get a fourth, fifth, etc. letter in.
You can click on a name in this drop-down or type the full thing out, then click to confirm.
Once the first, and any subsequent names are in your ignore list, you will have the option to edit the list at any time by unchecking/checking thier names in the list.
Oddly, if you put in your own name into the ignore list, you will recieve the error message "We can't help you ignore yourself".
You can add yourself as a contact, but not as a friend, which gives you the error message "You can't be friends with yourself". Although as a contact, apparently you can leave visitor messages and send PM's to yourself. -

Quote:Having them persistant while zoning is intentional.I did search a little bit, but couldn't find an answer.
Say I've got my fire imps with me when I finish a mission. When I exit and they're following me, the letters over their heads change from blue to white, (they also don't say "So and So's imp" anymore) and they cannot be dismissed. The only way to get rid of them is to make more imps and then dismiss the new ones, which they now will.
Is this a bug or is there a purpose for this?
Thanks,
Having them quit team and follow you around is a bug.
Another way to fix this is to enter a mission or target them with a buff. -
I could have sworn I played that one (maybe there was a similar one?) a while ago, but I'll look into it soon.

Just wondering.
I grabbed "Small Arms Fire" for a Dual Pistols idea. (Gunslinger, and the first couple of alternatives I thought of were taken, might try a few more.)
What about the rest of you?
Writing any stories for your current characters to cross over?
Snag a name? -
In a mission it's fun to occasionally just leisurely stroll through a map, allowing your Robotic Henchmen to massacre your foes with lasers, grenades and missiles while you slowly saunter through.
((Sure, your toggles drop and you can't use any powers yourself, but if you're Bots/FF, there ain't much to do while the 2 minute bubbles are up.)) -

The Island of Dr. Moreau.

Rejected: Picture in link was taken in Pocket D. -
In an MMO, I would expect a few things:
First off, the ability to support a massive amount of players, the persistant zones and the progression of a character that is *yours*.
The character can be as basic as a stock NPC with set stats, so long as you can at least name them (to designate one specific player from another) and something changes about the character as you play them, with at the absolute bare minimum being some kind of "score" or record.
But secondly, it has to have more depth than that.
I would expect:
To be able to communicate with people who are neither teammates nor foes, but just other joes going about thier gaming. Think Broadcast or Globals.
A storyline. Seriously. Get my character involved in what's going on. And have something going on. You will probably need NPC's for this. Give my character some reason to do something.
There are a number of other features that are expected by gamers, but you could get by without any particular one of them, so long as you have most of them.
*Crafting isn't needed, but gives that type of gamer something to do.
*RP isn't needed, but gives that type of gamer something to do.
*Having your character get more powerful than when they started probably could be skipped, but I'd have a hard time with that. I'm a builder. I like getting from L1 to the cap and then setting them up to be 90% uber.
*Character cosmetic customization. You can get by with very little, (and some have) but throw in more options and people are happier.
*PvP. For some this is needed. For others, it is a waste. As a developer, pick a side of this argument and stick with it. Or try to include it, but keep it optional.
Now that's an MMO. But there is a big difference between making a bare bones MMO and meeting the definition and making a good one and being successful or awesome. -
Quote:If I may interject...This isn't some minor changed that anyone might have missed. Even Triumph for example use to go Yellow (Server Load) from time to time during "regular game play". Not any more... Not for a long time now.
You can not possibly have missed the drops in population. You just can't, there are far too many peoples that have left.
You simply refuse to acknowledge the hugh drop in population.
Of course, we will seldom if ever see yellow and red dots on servers like Triumph anymore. Green, Yellow and Red were a measure of percentage of capacity, and while population (judged by quarterly company reports) has been steady, server hardware was improved. With the improved servers (yeah, there have been problems from time to time, like when Sharkhead was unsteady as heck on Virtue, etc.) handling the same raw number of players, it would do so at a much lower percentage of maximum capacity.
Since August of 2004, I have seen a few declines in apparent activity.
*When debt was reduced in missions and mission completion bonuses were raised, I saw a huge decrease in street-sweeping.
*When I-5 and I-6 nerfed the heck out of certain powersets, I saw a decrease in PL beggars in P.I.
*When I-9 introduced IO's as something for L50's to blow thier nest eggs on (and to farm/grind for), I saw a decrease in people standing around AP running Costume Contests.
*When the RMT'ers were bugging us and even more when the /hide feature became granulated, I saw a decrease in the number of players available on /search.
*When the AE farms were introduced, I saw a decrease in the amount of players spamming in P.I. for "PL meh!"
*When the AE farms were nerfed, I saw a decrease in the amount of players spamming in AP for "PL meh!"
I predict that in about a month, I will see a decrease in the amount of players not in Pocket D.
My point? You only see a decrease in population in this game when you only look in one spot.
I am not employed by the company, nor do I believe that any of the posters in this thread are either. (Unless I missed a red-name, since I skimmed through it a bit.) So feel free to skip terms like "Company Hack". -
Quote:Funny that you should mention the report button.if however u cant name people with their comments, how about a report/block user button, if its offence, the person can either report it if its tht bad, or block that person from commenting on them again.
(have either a report button or block button)
Previously, I could look at my User CP, see an "horribly offensive" neg rep comment and click on it to go to the post it was attached to.
Then, I could click on the report button on my own post and type in "NegRep comment is horribly offensive, and the physical acts it accuses me of are impossible, as my mother is not double jointed, nor am I half-orangutan."
Now, if a NegRep comment were offensive, it is just as much harder to get it reported as it is more difficult to find. (Sorry, the grammar on that last sentence is pretty bad.) -
Well then, if BaBs says so, then that's the way it will be.
I kind of liked the idea of being able to turn on the Walk toggle as a solution for those that really dislike getting Speed-Boosted, but oh well. -
How often do the powers that be reverse thier decisions?
I see the turning off of comments as a direction that will either stay as it is, or go further, by just turning off the little green/red/grey dots.
But we can discuss it (hopefully politely) and make requests as we see fit.
