Quote:Here's one: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...t=server+mergeLet me preface by saying I have no inside information. This is all pure thoery on my part. If this has been covered already, please post a link. I cant seem to get the forum search function to work for me.
Got it by clicking "Search", typing in "Server Merge" and hitting "Go".
Not sure why the Search function isn't working for you.
BONUS!!: Memphis_Bill's famous Cut-n'-paste is in there on page 1.
Quote:When they introduced the new "Supreme Leader" rank for supergroups, alot of folks were left scratching thier heads. From the player standpoint, there was no real reason to do it. It wasnt something that the players had been clamoring for or really seemed to need. (Granted, CoH dropping stuff on the players out of the blue is nothing new.) There was a very vague reasoning given by the Dev staff for the change, but it all seemed sorta not needed. There was some players that weren't happy with the socio-political ramifications, but most folks just sorta shrugged and moved on.
Then winter comes along and the dev's give free server swaps through the end of January. This made me a little suspicious. Folks were happy to be able to server hop for free during the holidays and folks are having fun.
Then there is the issue of supergroups. This is where the "supreme leader" comes into play. That new role makes the moving of SG's from one sever to another much more feasable. The devs let everyone know when moving day is. When M-day arrives, everyone but the "supreme leader" gets booted out of the SG. The SG gets moved to whicher server the "supreme leader" moves too. Then the "supreme leader" simply re-invites all the members that show up on the new server.
The Supreme Leader thing is much ado about nothing if he/she simply gives the same permissions to the next tier below.
The free server transfers was a gift for the holidays.
Putting the two together like this comes across as a huge leap and an attempt to stir the pot over nothing.
And if servers would be merged, why would the SG's need to be split? If everyone on Closing-Server is going to be tossed onto Designated-Recipient-Server, then this would just be unneeded chaos, further sabotaging the game.
I don't know what people think of the Devs sometimes, but I'm pretty sure that they don't sit around all day wondering "Hmmm.......what can I do to stop my paychecks from coming in...?" -
Quote:Some folks prefer New York, some prefer Montana.Have fewer, but more populated, servers would only help retain players longer and encourage more new players to stay longer than just the trial account period.
The only change I would make would be to change the server selection screen.
Put three little markers on the screen.
Right at the top: "Server you were last on---->"
Second from the top "Server with fewest players online right now--->"
Bottom: "Server with most players online right now---->"
Folks that like being surrounded by other players (at the cost of lagginess, potentially being locked out during special events, etc.) can feel free to do thier own server merge.
Others prefer a less-populated server. And even on what you call a "dead server", there is still teaming. Not that teaming is essential in this game. -
Quote:Server merges will happen when all of the following criteria are met:I keep seeing posts about how CoH is hemorrhaging subscribers. I keep seeing replies about how no, it's not. Posts about how the city is dead. Posts about how no, people are in instanced missions. So it got me to thinking about how we can tell how CoH is really doing, something objective to look at and judge.
As most of you know, NCsoft stopped publishing subscriber numbers a while back. But they do still publish their sales in their quarterly earnings statements. Really, these numbers are a lot more important than subscriber numbers. After all, a game can be wildly successful with a low subscriber base, or wildly unprofitable with a high one. Ultimately, "Is this making us money?" is probably the best judge of whether a company will continue to invest in a game.
SO... With no further ado, here is your chart. Yes, it's small and hard to read. Click on it to see the full-sized version.
Note that I've put labels across the top indicating when each issue release has it, as well as a few of the competitors (WoW: Burning Crusade, WoW: Wrath of the Lich King, and Champions Online).
*When subscription numbers sharply plummet.
*When the Devs are willing for large chunks of people to lose thier character and SG names due to multiple people sharing them.
*When the Devs wish to send the signal to the gaming world that you should not come play this game and that it is dying. (And as evidenced by the chart above, it doesn't look dying to me.)
In other words, NO.
Thank you, and Good Day. -
Speaking as a part-time Justice player....we have other problems over there.
-
Sure. Why not.
In it's previous incarnation (Recharge in the 10 minute range?) the only benefit in the low levels was that by the time I had my Endurance issues taken care of (Stamina, better slotting, etc.) I had a full set of binds and macros on that character.
Since I had nothing better to do between battles than sit there thinking of clever sayings or handy things to have bound. -

What would we call the new AT's?
If they were unlocked by Preatoria actions, they would be neither HEATs nor VEATs, but PEATs. If they were unlocked by actions in the existing CoH/CoV areas, then they would simply be the Rikti ATs, or "RATs". But then, as the call for Devs to "Take a look at the Kheldians" continue (as they have since Khelds went live), they could be given a buff in the form of Anti-Rikti abilities (Extra Def/Resistance against Rikti attacks, Extra Damage). The resulting buffs to the Kheldian ATs (or KATs) would allow the KATs to eat (but not EATs) the RATs. -
-
No matter what, there will always be a few who claim "We need a <specific AT/powerset here>!", despite it not being the case.
Years of CoH/CoV haven't changed that. GR will not change that. -
Quote:All they have to do is check thier out-of-game Email and respond to the auto-send form letter with thier next three choices for a name.Is there any reason why all players found in violation of the naming policy can't be given a temporary generic name and then a token for a free name change?
This seems so reasonable to me I'd assume it was already the case. But ... maybe it's not.
They're only "stuck" if they choose to run around with GEneric3453 to try to protest the unfairness (in thier eyes) of being generic'ed.
Let's say that many folks don't know of this policy. How many of them never check thier Email? -
Use the Axe if any of the following:
*Your attack set is mostly Negative Energy Damage
or
*If you intend to mainly fight CoT Spectrals and other "True Undead" (Note that Vahz Zombies are not undead for these purposes).
Does Special Damage vs. CoT Spectrals, BP Zombies, Tsoo Ancestor Spirits, Unseelies, Croatoa Ghosts and Shivans. Source: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Ghost_...st_Slaying_Axe
or
*It fits your "style".
Otherwise, use Sands of Mu.
The other problem: The vet powers can't be slotted for anything, including Accuracy, so they attack at your base Accuracy/ToHit. The Ghost Axe is primarily when fighting against foes that drop ToHit DeBuffs, which makes the problem worse. -

$6.5? Well, if that was the only way to continue playing, then yes. Bonus points for being flashy/fancy/pretty straight from the factory. (Although less than 20 feet from my computer table is my WH40K paints/bits/etc., so I could fancy it up a bit.
I play from a static, secure location, so my only security concerns are against online foes. Pretty much no chance of losing or damaging the device.
If new players faced the prospect that playing this game required additional security hardware (no matter how cheap to buy and easy to handle), it would cause them to hesitate. Include in every boxed set and make available at the NCstore for mailing to your house? -
Gadjet that I have to go purchase? No thanks.
Iphone App? Considering that I don't have (or want) an Iphone, No thanks. -
Quote:This interests me.If you want me to PvP, add, say, a small % chance of PvP recipes dropping from mobs in PvP zones, or any other form of good drop to justify the nerfage of my characters and the lack of mez protection when I enter the zone, and I'll be there Shield Charging like a moron at everything in sight (player or not) for days and days
I wouldn't mind the added difficulty of the PvP rules and mobs and players if there was something decent to show for it. A minuscule chance of a recipe from players on a timer really isn't enough. Shivans and Nukes really aren't it, because they seem designed to do "hit and run" kind of combat, I'd rather have the reward come steadily during mass chaotic combat instead of the directed missions/events; several rolls at the luck ticket instead of one sure fire while looking over one's shoulder, if you will.
Currently, with none of my AoE-focused, PvE characters do I have a shot at winning any PvP fight against a good PvP-built character played by anyone who knows what they're doing. Yes, I've tried a number of ATs and never succeed. So with PvP recipes in the mix, the only the only thing I have to gain in direct PvP competition is to potentially give the player who is already better equipped than me the tools to be even better against me next time. Further increasing the gap.
So why should I bother wasting my time for no benefit, other than the "Spent 5 hours in this zone" badge, which I can AFK ? -
So your suggestion is to bring /Regen to Brutes in the next round of proliferation?
Paragon Wiki has Brute HP at Base: 1499 and Max: 3212
and Scrapper HP at Base: 1338 and Max: 2409.
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Scrapper
So to even it out, the Brute's version of Regen would have to perform at a lesser percentage. 75%-89%, maybe? -
Quote:*In a related note: For "Old-School" Veteran Players, Issue 1 Stone Armor animations will return.* The Bad News: BABs recent struggle with acute intestinal distress left him tied to the bathroom for three days straight which caused him to miss work and fall behind schedule on his animations. The Good News: The experience gave him an idea for three new emotes.
-
I am very interested in this idea and wish to support it.
The idea of playing a Teleporting Rikti Gunman or a Drone/Conscript/etc.-summoning Comms Officer is very appealing to me.
*Imagines playing a Comm Officer MM in PvP*
"Farm: This. Punk." -
Sounds interesting.
Still too rich for my blood though, as the Inf: Benefits ratio in the case of the Purples and the PvP IOs is such a demonstration of truly Diminishing Returns.
I'll still stick with my favorites. The Mako's Bite, Crushing Impact and Thunderstrike tiers. -
Quote:Suggestions, based on your original premise?...............So, lets say you're feeling greedy, you can buy a max number of 7 pets to help you in battle. Think about it, you and 7 HVAS's waltzing down the aisle to take out a Giant Monster or any touch AV who thinks they can walk on water,..hehe.
Yes, there are lots of ways you could tweak this, for example, lets say you wanted to start your own TF and you know you need about 8 so, maybe also have a "special" TF Pet purchase that will allow the pets to last the entire TF before they vaporize. Now if they die during the TF, you can still purchase another without being penalized. Now, ahem...I have not thought about how this would work on an 8 member team if everyone got 7 pets,...lol. It would be like a circus out there. Lets see 7 x 8 = 56. Yeah the graphics might get boggy so, something would have to be worked out on a cap level before this could happen.
Any other things you guys might think would work on this or any additional suggestions, please throw in your two cents, as I would like to hear them.
Have the pet take up a spot on the team roster. That would prevent the amount of pets in a mission from getting too extreme. -
Quote:This. One thing that can make it look a little less conspicuous is to disable pictures from showing in your browser. That will at least take care of the big City of Heroes banner on the top and player avatars / banners.
However, I'd recommend you review your work's Internet usage policies. Many work places have enacted Internet filtering programs that not only restrict what you can view but also log your activity. They may already know you spend time looking at the forums. Also, don't think by using a proxy service that you can get around this. (I used to do this for a living btw) That only makes you look more suspicious.
If your work allows you to browse non-work related material while doing your job, I'd still recommend making it clear to your superiors that you do it only during breaks or slow times. Having your boss already know about your browsing behavior will significantly blunt that "surprise" report from the HR department which tells him/her that you're doing non-work related browsing. In economic times like this, it's better to be safe than sorry.
My wife was fired from a city job for having a grand total three minutes of non-work internet activity on her login.
Right after she filed for maternity leave, HR started an investigation of her and found nothing, then a general investigation of the department's internet use was done and revealed that most of the employees in her department had done so, and in greater amounts. No others were fired, or even disciplined in any manner. -
Quote:Yes to this suggestion, in this form or in another, similar form already requested. Perhaps make it an account-wide thing. Run the "introduction" mission once, get a flag on the account where in the future where the contact (I'm looking at you, Lt. "KR->AP->Hollows" Wincott!) just show up in the contact list.1) No-Cost Drops for "introduction" missions. Don't even have to give me the reward, just a button that says "Already met them, Thanks"
Or just turn them into contacts that drop immediately into the contact list. *starts dreaming*
I can see it now. L40+ Hero sees his Hero Corps representative often enough to tweak his reputation that he has his 'PR agent' on his cell phone's speed dial.
"Hello, Morty? Yeah, I'm looking at busting up some Council. Be sure to put in a word at the Paragon Daily Bugle and with Channel 4 that I'm on a big anti-fascism thing. And have you gotten me any more endorsements yet? I'd like to be more than just the spokesperson for that electric grill and that topical ointment. It's not like spandex chafes that much anyway."
Quote:
2) Retro Powers and Costume Pieces: Ray-guns (Alt animations for sets like energy blasts, cold blasts, etc), Bubble Helmets, Jetpacks (not a temp power just an alt animation or costume piece that works with fly), Retro costumes (space suit, "Ming" robes, Super/Bat brief/shorts, Wristbands). Put it in a "Retro Booster" and I'll even pay!
Quote:3) Alternate "Solo" missions for those "must have a team to accomplish" missions in arcs.
Haven't seen this redside, and the last time I got one offered Blueside, it was labelled in advance, which is an improvement from the old days.
Quote:4) A good long look at the Kheldens.
Quote:5) New Low and Mid-Level content on "both" sides of the fence. You guys did *such* a good job with the Blueside "Cape" mission revamp... don't let Going Rogue be the excuse to put off what should have been done long ago.
Some of it has already been tweaked. In the old days, the "Rescue the Fortune Teller" mission was in the deepest part of the Perez maze. Nowadays, it's always at the edge of the forest. Other missions in the zone tend to be in the strip of buildings, when they they used to be in the maze as well.
Quote:and for bonus points:
6) Villianize the Villian-side! City of Villians has suffered for way too long on the content end of things. Lets give players a reason to WANT to come to the the dark side, before the GR "exodus" (Justice League of Brutes and Masterminds, anyone?) finally kills redside completely.
It could use a SF or two and maybe one more zone perhaps, IMO. -
Quote:This sorta surprises me. I mean, if someone doesn't PvP, what's the point of paying that much for a set that doesn't provide all of it's bonuses in PvE?HOWEVER, ESPECIALLY for PVP IOs, the number of people desiring them is larger than the total number of people actively PVP'ing by at least one order of magnitude, if not more. As such, unless the percentage rate for drops is DRASTICALLY increased, the prices aren't going anywhere but up and off-market.
Unless it's PvPers that don't want to PvP without getting full sets of the bestest, most top of the line equipment BEFORE they go into the one/arena. But before we got PvP in this game, the proponents of PvP said that they wanted it implemented "for the challenge" of fighting non-AI foes. So going into PvP without a full set of top-tier IOs would be more challenging, wouldn't it?
Yet you don't see "Hey, check out my all-DualOrigin PvP build!" posts..
