This is why I say that any hunt mission of over 20-25 foes is an intentional waste of time. "Hunt 50" is a crock, IMO.
My advice is to either use your mission drop or kill non-Carnie mobs to pass the time. It's been a while since I was blue-side, but I could have sworn that some of the spawn points were coded for multiple factions to spawn. So killing off one spawn could make way for it to be repopulated with a spawn of another faction.
At least killing the other spawns is good for earning a little XP/Inf/Drops in the meantime.
Keep moving and keep killing.
Good luck! -
Quote:Perhaps. I've seen examples of characters like that.Character concept might result in your char lacking travel powers to begin with, maybe?
I do like the idea of having more ways than one to complete a mission objective. Such as tossing immobilizes, slows and holds on said boss to prevent thier escape in the first place. -
That's what I heard.
Not sure if it's still in the works or was cancelled.
A quick google of "World of Darkness MMO" gave me a bunch of articles based on rumor and theory. Nothing concrete.
The last thread that I remember on this topic in the Virtue forum included such sentiments that indeed such a MMO was coming soon and that it would be "good riddance" to that particular sector of the RP community.
While I have no desire to join that particular group, I harbor no such level of animosity.
Certain premises that I read in the old Vampire and Werewolf books kind of fly in the face of CoH canon, though. Like civilians being unaware that Vampires and Werewolves exist. (Heck, we see them on street corners urging us to join the Council) Or that in the face of such critters, mere mortals would be petrified and unable to process the information. Closest thing we have is the NPCs running about in the /flail_arms emote from the Council, and singing our praises if we as a Vampire/Werewolf/Ghost PC complete a mission. -
First post after vehicles suggestion!
Okay, so you can shoot a firearm (of a particular temp power, not an AR Blaster/Corruptor) from the vehicle, but not use other powers? Like, say, flinging a fireball?
And being a car/motorcycle, I'm guessing Jump=0ft. So it's more like Sprint after being hit by certain debuffs.
And only useful on certain maps.
I like the concept of having to chase the boss down, but why not use my regular travel powers to do so? -
In CoX, a face is only a costume piece, and is niether more nor less difficult to change than your shoes.
Your gender or body type, however, is a little more difficult. -
I'm not so sure.
The $Inf directly gained by defeating foes is a small fraction of my total income. I'm fairly lazy in that I use the Market in only the simplest fashion (buying what I want, selling unwanted drops).
Doubling my Inf gain by dropping out of SG mode wouldn't be that big of a boost.
Anyway, responding to the thread title:
"Is influence that hard to come by?"
No. Not at all, when almost everything you do in this game gains you some kind of reward with a value attached.
The only problem I see is when folks come here to complain about the ingame economy based on their belief that they should have the income to slot a full set of top-tier enhancements (usually Purples or PvP sets) with one hour of game time spent running radio missions at +0/x1, and the assumption that anyone who has more pixellated "stuff" than them is somehow doing it by robbing them.
And yes, we see threads like that. -
This.
I often keep a stack of AE tickets handy for just such an occasion.
La-dee-da, looking through my recipes...
Ooh! There's a good one!
*runs to the Market*
*Buys one of this salvage and one of the other.*
*Sees six-figure sums in the Last 5 for a Common salvage.*
*Bid creeps up a bit, gets nothing.*
Screw it.
*Runs to the AE building to roll a few times on the Random Common table.* -
I'd just like to see the game get some physical shelf space in stores.
I've been keeping an eye out since the GvE box hit stores and noticed that we don't get that much physical representation in stores.
I'm hardpressed to find the actual Architect Edition box in my area anywhere, yet I can always find stacks of AION, WoW or CO.
Having little Billy Gamer Jr. cruising the aisles of say, WalMart or Fred Meyer and picking through the games section, let's give him something to compare against those other MMO's. -
You can generally just ask on Help or a Global for someone to help get your alts into a SG/VG, depending on the server. (Virtue is good for this)
There's usually someone around with a character who is not in a SG that can do this. -
Quote:I would love to see that too.I'm all for it, and like some others, wonder why this wasn't done to begin with.
I would love to see a purple "Recipe Awarded" notification.
White, Yellow, Orange, Purple.
Granted, some of the yellow and orange are from vendor-trash sets, but I'd still want to know. -
Quote:I'm not surprised.Hee, hee. You are so right. I was in Faultline fighting Clockwork when I noticed my health was low and I was out of Greens. I instantly flew away and they followed, zapping me the whole time. I ducked inside the AE building and laughed when I saw them angerly peering inside the window. After I had rested and filled up on Inspirations I was about to leave when I noticed they were still there....waiting for me
I stood and stared at them through the window, and they looked at me.
I finally went out and defeated them.
Persistent...YES!
I was with a teammate in Skyway when I aggro'ed a pair Clockwork. I knew I didn't have the damage to kill them and (FF/Energy Defender), but I could drag them away from the mission door so we could enter. I told my teammate I would tank the clocks so he could enter.
I turned on Personal Force Field and ran around through half of Skyway. I was quite surprised how far away I could get for how long and still have them shooting at me.
If Hellions or Skulls had that kind of dedication, they would be in the big leagues challenging the Freakshow for turf, not relagated to spray-painting KR. -
Quote:Or, as I see it, how much you like going out there and shooting badguys, and how much you like to see your enhancements degrade while you fight. All depends on how much you like playing with the market and crafting, compared to how much you like going out there and shooting badguys.
While the IO player is spending time crafying and trading, the SO player is spending time re-purchasing the same racks and racks of enhancements over and over again.
I don't understand why some people hesitate to slot IO's until L50.
On the way to L50, the SO player is busy buying new enhancements for every single slot of every single power every few levels. In the meantime, Common and Set recipes and the salvage needed for those recipes are dropping for free out of those pixelated pinatas we call mobs. So are enhancements, but unless you are only fighting mobs that drop your origin's same type, they are just vendor-fodder.
The IO player is crafting the recipes that fit his needs, selling the rest. Using the salvage that he's getting as drops or trading it for what he does need. And he only as to purchase one to three new enhancements per level.
And if he levels in a mission, he's still okay after the leveling burst of inspires wear off. -
If I may reply in haiku:
"Too vague, specify.
Otherwise, must /jranger
for lack of info."
I'm sure that there's more behind the idea, but on the surface, I've got nothing to go on other than "Hey, let's maintain the servers while recieving zero subscription income!", which is an awful idea for the financial well-being of the company. -
Quote:From this, we would hear:JACK "STATESMAN" EMMERT TO RETURN TO CITY OF HEROES
*shudders at the thought of him having his way with Willpower*
*Citing player concerns regarding travel suppression in combat and the feeling of super-powered combat, it has been scrapped. Regeneration, however, will use the old "travel suppression" code, and a -Regen effect has been built into a few enemy powers that previously lacked them. -
If you exaggerate, it isn't by much. They might be the most persistent little buggers in the game.
-
With the new "Ultra-Mode" Graphics enabled, shorter characters may wish to avoid melee with Tuatha De Dannon. Ranged combat may be preferable until pants are added to this enemy model.
On the bright side, their new Brawl animation makes sense. -
Just on the other side of that War Wall.
-
Quote:I've searched for the last two days for a team for my level 16 FF defender and have found only one in Steel Canyon.
The only missions people seem to run anymore are ITFs and BNY missions.
Blueside is dead. Discuss
DoooOOOOOOOOOOOoooom on toast.
Enjoy.
In the meantime:
1) Less Broadcasting and more turning on your LFT flag.
2) Join a global.
3) Use your second build option to have a solo build available at all times and go earn your own dang XP for a while. -
2nd Addendum:
*Never forget the difference between opinion and fact. (For all) Everyone has the right to an opinion but your Opinion on a topic and your Feeling about something isn't a fact. So don't state an opinion as if it were a fact. (Trust me, I've seen it here.)
*Title of your thread. (For the OPs) Having a descriptive title that is appropriate to your topic gets eyeballs on your page. Example: "A Buff for <Name of Powerset>", rather than "What I think would be cool".
Spelling it correctly prevents responses that address your mis-spelling, which distract from the conversation. Example: "More dammag for Brun!"
Being vague doesn't help you out. While someone might look into the thread out of curiousity, you will miss out on some of the potential posters who are interested in that particular topic. Example: "What would be good" instead of "Increase the Spawn rate of <CritterName>."
Thank you.

I moved my Villains to Virtue and my Heroes to Justice, so that they could all benefit from from the SG and VG that we (my RL friends) have established on those servers.
-
I like BBQRP too.
Anyway........
I wrote "IRP" on one character, but folks who see it probably see it as "I like to Role Play", signifying that yes, the player will speak in character.
I intended it to mean the opposite of the Rated R "Mature RolePlay" with the swearing and violent themes and such. "Immature Role Play" was going to be Rated PG. No swearing, no sex.
But this was on a 4-foot Brute named Terrible Two who dressed in a red one-sie with a star on the front and some dirty bare feet. So I figured that the character would be pretty obvious in where RP with them would stand.
I don't think the abbreviation ever caught on, so I don't expect to see it on anyone else. -
Let's look at threads.
Section 1: The Original Post(er):
Every thread has one thing in common. It starts with a single post.
A bad opening post usually dooms the whole thread, even though any thread can devolve with little to no warning.
*Before starting a thread, do a little research. Think your thread through. What details will you need to include? Have there been any recent discussions on the same topic? Use the Search tool, or at least page back a few pages (try to get at least a week back). This isn't to say that you don't have the right to start a new conversation on the topic, but to get you to see previous conversations for facts and/or ideas that you might have missed.
*Start out in a positive tone. Starting out with hostility, ranting or whining pretty much gaurantees that you will end up with an argument, rather than a discussion. Also see: Trolling.
Tacking in argumentative things like implying that anyone who disagrees with your opinion must be a "Troll" or "Flaming" you is also counter-productive.
* Speak Clearly. You don't have to have an English degree or use perfect grammar, spelling and punctuation, but typing in gibberish or sloppy text not only looks bad (to some, since "bad" in this case is opinion) but is more difficult to read and most importantly.....generally causes your post to be taken less seriously.
Wall-Of-Text formatting (lack of line breaks, paragraphs, etc.) will cause your post to be ignored by many.
Your Grand Idea! This is the Suggestions Forum, a crucible by which bad suggestions are politely dismissed, great suggestions are supported and decent suggestions (the most common type) are discussed with intention to improve them. Or at least that's the intent.
* Present the problem or the desire for change. What is your intent? What is it that you want.
Be honest with the flaws in your suggestion. Let's face it, the ideas suggested here often have shortcomings or negative consequences if implented in rough draft form. Hopefully, your idea can be tweaked to be a win-win idea! Gracefully accept (or decline) the solutions that responders provide.
* It's not your baby. Remember that disagreement or criticism of your idea is not criticism of YOU PERSONALLY. It's about the idea, it's not a personal attack.
* Also: Don't be a drive-by poster who dumps an idea off in one post and abandons it. Don't be afraid to sit down and discuss the suggestion with us.
Section 2: The Initial Responders Yes, I'm talking about those who stumble across a fresh Suggestions thread.
* It's someone's baby. No matter how bad an idea is, try to keep your personal disdain out of it and politely point out the irredeemable flaws for which you spurn the idea.
If it's a mediocre idea, try to point out ways that it could be salvaged into something worth implementing.
* Don't get personal.
Section 3: The Discussion. Yeah, everybody. OPs included.
* Try to stay on topic, or at least in the near vicinity of the topic. Also see: Thread Derailment.
* Be polite and professional to each other.
* Remember that there are Moderators present and forum rules that no poster can expect to break without consequence.
* LolCats pictures are funny, but should be used rather sparingly, and only after the thread has already derailed.
* Links to that TV-Tropes site can cause readers to get lost for days. It's the Bermuda Triangle of the Internet. Leave warning.
Special Addendum: (Okay, this is for the Player Help: Questions section)
*When you ask a question and someone answers it, don't delete it. It just means that the next person who has the same question has to ask and wait. If you leave it there, they can just pop in, look and be done. -
To anyone who has seen this movie: http://www.badmovies.org/movies/momdad/
Omega Manuever functions a lot like a Light Grenade.
"Pick Me Up!" -
Quote:I like some of these ideas for additional powers added into the pool (which I'll admit is a full enough pool already that I had to skip a few powers that I wanted).I find Omega Maneuver to be pretty silly in concept, so here's a couple suggestions for a replacement:
Overcharge: Your Channelguns charge up and fire a tremendous, concentrated blast at a single enemy, dealing Extreme damage to that enemy and to anyone near the explosion, knocking them down and stunning them if they are not defeated outright. (Huge damage, long recharge, Targeted AoE like Explosive Blast)
Frag Barrage: You pepper an area around an enemy with Frag Grenades fired from your channelguns. Anyone who is caught in the blasts will take serious damage and possibly be knocked back by the explosions. ((Large damage, medium recharge, targeted AoE))
Cluster Grenade: You fire a Cluster Bomb at a targeted location. The bomb will explode mid-air, raining down bomblets to obliterate the enemies below. (Large DoT, long recharge, Rain of Arrows or Fire Rain-type AoE))
Channel Beam: Your Channelguns fire concentrated streams of energy over a wide area, cutting through any victims unfortunate enough to be in their way. The amount of power required to sustain a beam of fire for so long prevents you from repeating this often. (Extreme damage, medium recharge, wide cone)
Annihilation: You go all-out in a fiery swathe of destruction, firing everything you have at the enemies around you. Enemies will take damage from your Channelguns, be afflicted by your Venom Grenades, and be blown back by your Frag Grenades. However, this is extremely taxing on your Endurance and will leave you unable to recover Endurance for a while. (High damage: Smashing, Energy, Toxic, Fire, long recharge, PBAoE)
However, I enjoy Omega Manuever as-is and don't see why you don't just skip OM if you dislike it.
I enjoy tossing it into a crowd of Longbow and imagining them yelling "It's a grenade! SHOOT IT!"(Even better when one of them decides that punching it is the best way to disarm the bomb. Amusing.)
Also: obligitory "Cottage Rule" reference.
