It just shows that Arachnos was too short-sighted to put in remote-control detonators into the crabpack design, should they go rogue and need to be put down?
Or paranoia that if installed, someone would hack into it? "I'm in ur radioz, killin ur doodz." -

Quote:The Dev theory was that the discrepency between the two Markets was too great, particularly with Hero wealth reserves being much larger. It does make me wonder, however, why it was so important that Heroes and Villains were never allowed to trade with each other before.
The Marketeers theory was that the smaller playerbase redside was keeping that Market from achieving the same level of health. -
Yes, most likely. Some sets push hard against the ED limits, so removing ED would only make them more uber. Frankenslotting would be more popular also.

I think that disallowing magic items is an unfair handicap, but I'm a 2nd Edition (and skimmed over the latest edition) kind of guy.
But that still leaves mages pretty viable, especially depending on thier level and exactly which superhero they faced. -
-
Well, honestly, I haven't seen a lot of higher-level D&D characters who weren't dripping in magic items, up to whatever encumbrance limits (or special class limits) were imposed, and then they start investing in items to allow them to bypass encumbrance.

I'd rather see the varius flavors of Arachno-bots as a MM Primary Set, perhaps with some sort of unlock required....or not.

Quote:I could live with that.- (drastic) After a new issue, delist all non-hof/dc arcs from browsing until the authors 'refresh' the arcs. Such a refresh might only involve flipping a switch in the arc editor ("This arc is ready for play in Issue x!"). Downside: this'd punish great arcs whose authors take a break from COH for whatever reason.
- (less drastic) Switch arcs to 'work in progress' unless the author flips the aforementioned switch. Don't show work in progress arcs by default, but show them when someone is specifically searching for arc id, author name, or has 'show work in progress arcs' checked.

Honestly however, the biggest stigma of AE atm seems to be that it's just... not really worth it from a reward standpoint. Maybe adding some cool titles or non-combat pets or costume pieces would entice people again... or more likely, just cause an influx of farming arcs all over again and/or potential griefing against non-farming storyarcs (stupid story, stop getting in the way of farming my AE gerbil pet!). No easy solution, sigh.

"Played 20 different arcs", "Played 100 different arcs" "Played 250".
Repeating the same ones wouldn't counts, so start hitting that random button! -

Along comes a goverment contract for miles and miles of wiring and conduit to be laid aboard thier newest Death Star. Halfway into the job, you're sitting down on your lunchbreak, open up a PB&J sammich and gaze at the poloroid hologram of your family back home when BAM! Some crazy rebels blow the whole thing up.The Empire-loving "I wish the Rebels hadn't blown up the Death Star" stormtrooper types are free to play what they like

Well yes, he would be the defense lawyer.
Otherwise, it would be "Your honor, my client is utterly full of ****, I would like to recuse myself of this case and have my name stricken from the record so as not to be associated with this ****-tard anymore than I already have." -
-
Quote:I actually want to hear a lawyer say "Your honor, I move that this case be dismissed."Well, yeah, duh, but that's an open-and-shut case, this is a far more interesting topic. I mean, just how many ways can you say, "The litigant is full of ****"?
"On what grounds?"
"On the grounds that the litigant is full of ****, your honor."
"Case Dismissed. Litigant is indeed full of ****." -
Opinion:
MA suffers from a few things.
A bad reputation. Mention AE and the first thing some folks think of is the farming frenzy we had at first. Y'know, first impressions stick the longest, bad ones doubly so.
Being cluttered up with broken or abandoned arcs. I use the Random buttom for the lulz, and I gotta admit that I find a lot of garbage. Really hurts the signal:static ratio.
Frustration and confusion with the rules changes. I have three arcs. I don't know if they are i-18-compliant, and if they are, will they be i-19 compliant? i-20 compliant? They weren't designed as farms at all, but one has customs (a 5-critter group) and an AR/Dev (optional) helper.
If I hit that random button, will I be playing an arc that has reduced rewards because the author wasn't up to the latest patch?
Custom Critters that scare folks off. Yes, most of you know how to build for balance, but you've probably wandered into those others. The ego-arcs where someone wanted thier pet character to kick your behind as a maxed-out AV. The maxed-out mobs that make the arc look like a 12-year old DM's P&P RPG game where he kills all the PCs off in the first room of the dungeon.
Or the map full of kill-me-quicks designed as wet paper bags full of XP and AE. tickets.
Will that guy's arc with customs kill me at the front door? Will it be full of critters that give no <rewards of desired kind> worth a darn? Screw it, I'll look for the next arc with Freakshow or Warriors or whatever..
And of course, the newest shiny. GR. Through no fault of it's own, GR will lure customers away to it's golden shores. At least for now. Most will return. Some will run thier Preatorians through the other side of Primal Earth to grab badges or whatever.
We aren't likely to see again the hordes of players in the AE like we did during the farming rush. But to see a resurgence, the Dev team are going to need to purge the trash out of the database, give the system a bit of a polish to refresh it's shininess and then advertise those actions. No one shows up to your garage sale unless you put signs up.
Right now, the AE is on the list of things that have been abandoned for a while, that need to get some attention, along with Bases. -

Log onto any server other than Freedom or Virtue.
Then log off and go to the server status page.
The one at the bottom of the list (almost always Freedom) is the one with the most people currently online, as the sheer wieght has sunk it to the bottom.
The one second from the bottom (usualy Virtue) is the second most..., etc.
The one at the very tip-top is the one you were last on, regardless of current population. -
Okay, I'll admit that I'm a week behind on Eureka. Yeah, I'll catch up on it with the DVR when I get time.
But I'll miss old-school when he's gone, which seems to be the biggest solution to thier problems, sport. -
*A cargo ship arrives in the Arkasas harbor, waiting it's cargo. Several sets of contradictory shipping manifests are in the captain's desk. His orders are clear. He is to pick up several shipping containers, with a few of them to be cross-loaded to another ship somewhere in international waters.
Where will those containers go? No one officially knows, but with port security being lax these days, well....things happen. Somehow, revolutionaries and resistance fighters get thier supplies. Crazed extremists manage to sneak the sneaky stuff sneakily into position, while White-Hat governments feign ignorance..*
Don't ask me, I'm nuetral. -

Someone want to send him one? I'm nuetral...or at least that's what the paperwork officially says.

I've not had any problems with Win7, except when playing one particular character (who always caused issue with my old comp. I think the character file is bugged.).
But I haven't used Herostats, ever.
Seebs's comment makes me wonder if the Vidiot map patch would work well with it or not. -
Quote:This is true. If they seem outrageously priced, try a different set. People really get hung up on the prices of the big-ticket stuff (like the better/best sets) and forget that some stuff can be cheaper than SO's. ("Purple Sets" vs....Airburst?Crafted IOs can be extremely expensive or reasonably priced.
