We managed to run one raid tonight. I'd like to thank everyone that participated, and I hope everyone had a lot of fun. See you all next week.

    Iron Maiden any with Bruce

When I think of KISS, I usually think of songs like Beth, Detroit Rock City, Rock and Roll All Nite, and I was Made for Loving You. I had forgotten that they had much harder (and heavier) songs. Of the three KISS suggestions, I really liked War Machine best.It made me want to tromp my villain all around the Rogue Isles in a Titan suit.

I had a hard time finding Dio songs, but I’ll keep looking. Of the ones I located, I really liked Last in Line. I would have liked to hear the Sting of the BubbleBee though (it sounds intriguing), even though the Transformers live action movie really soured the name BubbleBee for me.

I love the Cyberpunk album from Billy Idol. I grew up in the 80’s and have been accused of never leaving (and yes I know that the album was released in ’93, but I think of Idol as an 80’s icon). But before I sidetrack myself too much. Cyberpunk was one of three albums that kept in my arsenal of background music for role playing back in the day. The other two albums were Metallica’s Black album and the first CD I ever purchased (the Freejack soundtrack). LOL. I’ve since expanded that library (doing DJ gigs as a hobby), and have now even included sound effect discs. I still play those three albums from time to time though.

I’m like Metallica and Megadeth, but sadly I doubt anyone will ever call me a huge fan of either group. I’m sort of embarrassed to admit that I only ever started listen to either group after they had commercial hits. That aside, there is no denying that both groups have talent. I’m really impressed with Dave. Mr. Mustaine is phenomenal with a guitar. And the lyrics from both groups are very thought-provoking. As I mentioned before, I still love the Black album.

It was over that Christmas "break" that I saw the true value of playing an MMO: the community. Logging on I really didn't expect to find anyone else on, let alone people I knew ingame. But they were there and I found myself with plenty to do and that always left an impression on me. So a few months down the road when my namesake was about to hit 50 I decided I wanted to play music that made me think of the "road to 50" and I automatically thought of the Garden State soundtrack. So since that first 50 and every one since then (yep, all 21 times), right before a character dings 50 I put on that CD and I'm taken back to that Christmas and reminded of how it felt back then and how much I enjoy the game and the community.
I'm definitely enjoying this sort of stuff. I think it's interesting to learn about someone through the events that they talk about. This is probably why I like role playing so much (and storytelling in general).

Thank you very much for this post. I going to have to see what is on the Garden State soundtrack now. I hope you have many more opportunities to play the soundtrack as you level more characters to 50.

This is a great suggestion. Gives me the whole Lord of the Rings vibe. I'm suprised that I haven't really considered classical type music when playing CoH before. This got me to think about other composers (contemporary and well classical).

    -ponders-

I'm going to have to dig out O Fortuna by Carl Orff. I like the John Williams version, but I might see how the Apotheosis techno version plays out.

I've got more comments for the later posts, but I'm getting ready for work now. Also, I can't seem to figure out how to quote multiple posts, so I may just have to comment to each separately.
  5. This is a nice idea, and I had wanted something like this a year ago. But with having so many different ways to get around now (the Ouroboros portal, base teleports, mission teleports, black market teleports, the combined train/plane lines, and ninja run), I’m finding it much easier to get around all the zones without such a power.

From a comic story standpoint though, I think it makes a lot of sense. It makes me think of Cloak from Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger. Even more so, I think about the 2008 film Jumper, where the characters had a similar power.

I agree with Shadow that the devs’ would extremely restrict this power if they did implement it (maybe to the point of making it useless). The power might be thought of as a way of “getting around” a lot of their built-in zone deterrents/toughness. I remember having to run down the middle of the road once in a zone I had no business being in, avoiding all the outside mobs, just to get to costume shop because I really wanted to have a certain pair of costume wings early in my hero’s build. I died three times in the attempt (but it was worth it). With this power, I would have simply jumped past all the danger.

We would have to also consider the power’s impact on hazard zones, PVP, and the Shadow Shard. I feel that I’m beginning to sound like some lobbyist. Next thing you know, I be trying to convince people that buying jetpacks keep Paragon workers employed. Hehe. At any rate, it would most likely be a hard-to-get power, paid-for expansion, or a new veteran power. That way, it would not take away from existing travel based rewards that already exist.

All that aside; the thing that would most likely prevent this power from ever being implemented is really just the programming involved. I think the game engine would need to change how collision detection works to avoid teleporting you inside a building, another character, or a hillside. Granted, the program does this somewhat with the existing teleport power. But with teleport, we supply the destination X, Y, and Z coordinates with the origin being your current location. Basically, we are prevented from selecting a point “inside an object” even before you can activate the power.

With this zone travel power, we would be telling the game to ignore everything between here and there, and pop me out where there isn’t going to be a “collision”. If we work that out, we still introduce the dilemma of what happens if you teleport over a tunnels or underpass (Skyway has a lot of them for example) since we haven’t supplied the Y coordinate (or Z, depending on how you rotate the axis). Does the game teleport you in the tunnel, or any of the open spots above it? What if you click on a building that you can normally enter (like the above mentioned costume shop, or maybe a store)? Should you be teleported inside? What if you click on a spot in the Shadow Shard that doesn’t have ground? Should you be placed in the middle and be allowed to fall?

And there is the matter of having to zoom in and out of the map, in order to pinpoint your actual destination spot. You know what I’m talking about if you have ever had to click on a map object (like a trainer or store) so that it will appear in your compass. Those little suckers like to dance around don’t they?

Like I said before, I wanted this power before. I most likely convinced myself that it would never happen though. But that isn’t to say you shouldn’t suggest it. Heck, I believe that if enough people want something to happen, they can make it happen.

The exception of course is for me to get a Purple to drop...that just doesn't happen. lol.

So, I only have one toon left in Praetoria which is great. That Ice/Ice Dom is so much fun I think I am moving him to next in line after I am done with my current main project.
I still have a Demon Summoner (named Sacrement of Penance) which I'm leaving in Praetoria indefinitely. Conceptionally, it made no sense for the character to leave unless there was truly an all out invasion by Emperor Cole's forces.

My main character also jumps into Praetoria from time to time (but for no particular reason). So if you need someone to assist you, send me a tell (if I'm on) or send me a private forum message.

  7. I had a productive weekend. This is what I remember:

    1. Deleted 4 characters that I wasn’t really playing with.
    2. Remade one character and brought it up to the mid 20s.
    3. Created two characters in MIDS.
    4. Finished adding backgrounds to all my characters.
    5. Completed two RESPECs to get out of legacy fitness pool. One of the RESPECs made my character useful for a change after slotting enhancements finally (a mind control/kinetic Vampire…what was I thinking?)
    6. Participated in one strike force and ran two others.
    7. Helped take down Scappy in the wee hours of the morning.
    8. Joined Vanguard with one of my characters.
    9. Finally got to role play some of characters after nearly 2 months of “playing it regular”.
    10. Finished the “get into Cimerora” arc with one of my characters.
    11. Ran through some AV arc’s.
    12. Helped friends as we leveled our characters together. Ran into old friends (one I haven't teamed with in nearly 3 months) and recent friends alike. Made new friends with others.
    13. Helped four different super groups with Prestige. One made it into the top 25. One earned the 10 mil prestige badge (though most of that work was done before this weekend).
    14. Ran four bank missions (two soloed).
    15. Congratulated numerous people for leveling. Auto-congratulated others, because I just got too tired of typing.
    16. Congratulated nearly a dozen people for getting Purple Recipes. Cried (somewhat) when I did NOT get one this weekend. <--- edit (did not get one)
    17. Told over five dozen puns over the course of the weekend along with a handful of horrible jokes.
    18. Set someone’s character on fire continuously for over 30 minutes as they were AFK. Not a good use of Double XP weekend, but it made me happy.
    19. Ate way too much Chinese takeout and drank too much soda. Though I did take a break and went out for ribs (with my very understanding significant other) on Saturday.
    20. Did the F6 challenge five times (my record is still 6 clicks).
    21. Got lost in a super group base for 10 minutes. Still couldn’t find that enhancement table, but I did find the bowling alley and the library-of-way-too-many-books
    22. Added 0 levels to my high range characters. Added 1-5 levels to my midrange characters. Added 10-20 levels to my low range characters. Added 30-35 levels to my free range chickens (just kidding, I ate them before they had a chance to level). =P~
  8. Wow.

I see some familiar artists and songs.

But more importantly, a lot that I don't recognize. I will definitely check these suggestions out in the next few days. And I will do my best to give you guys some feedback as to how the songs worked with my personal game style and preference.

I know I will like them though, because there isn't much music I don't like (with maybe the exception of Oi! (Which I honestly haven't really given a fair chance)).

Keep sending in your ideas though. I appreciate the time that you are putting into my request.

An added note to the moderator - If it is a matter of having too many sticky-ed posts already, I would kindly request that we swap out this post for the one containing the CoP Guide. Most people I've talked to prefer this scorecard. And the guide is referenced and linked within this post.
  10. I’m a fan of playlists. I enjoy tweaking, deleting, and reconstructing them. At the moment, I’m trying to put together a Guardian Playlist that I can use while playing on the server. Here’s where I could use some help.

What songs would you suggest for my new playlist?

I’m trying to create something similar what was done in Music from the Succubus Club, a compilation of songs dealing with themes in the Vampire: the Masquerade role-playing game. I’d first like suggestions for general “hero related” songs. Songs like Hero by Skillet and Invincible by Pat Benatar are examples of this. But I would also like songs that fit a specific hero archetype. For example, Bullet with Butterfly Wings by Smashing Pumpkins could be a choice for a brute, with lyrics like “despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage.”

Part of this exercise is also get people discussing more; so I’d also be interested in hear the reason why you made your suggestion. For example, I could suggest the song Wish I Had an Angel by Nightwish (used in a COH Fan-created YouTube video a few years ago, not to mention the Alone in the Dark movie). The song doesn’t directly tie to superheroes by theme or lyrics, but it really works well with the pacing of a task force mission. And the heavy drums and guitars with its contrasting, melodic vocals make me want to plow through mob after mob. This song could be a possible candidate for general music to include. Ultimately, any music can fit into the general category if you think about it. It all depends on taste, preference, and background.

But as I stated before, this post is also to get people discuss more diverse topics; possibly even start side conversations about even more topics. And if I come out of this with a cool playlist, I’ll call that a bonus. Oh, and since I am trying to put together a playlist, could you please include the artist.

    Thank everyone,
    ~Azure
  11. Study hard, je_saist and make great pastry.
  12. Vauluur,

Omega Revolution is interested in sponsoring the CoP event during the 7 Days of Awesome.

Please contact Omega Shockwave to discuss the details.

    Thanks
  13. I'll ask the leader of the Omega Revolution. I have a few heroes in that supergroup. We run the CoP a lot on Sundays, so it would make sense for us to help sponsor that event. And we usually do a Ritki Raid just before the CoP run so that people can get Vanguard Heavies for it. I'll let you know.

  14. "Hello To Guardian's Newest 50"

    Congratulations!
  15. Depending on when we run, I'd be willing to help as well.
  16. I'm curious. Is the Level 50 channel made up of primarily Guardian players? When I see teams forming on the Level 50 channel, it's almost always on Guardian.

In my case, whenever I form a team, I usually start advertising in the Guardian channel (Guardian being my home base). I will then broadcast a repeat on the Level 50 channel (with an addendum that I'm on Guardian).

Is the Guardian notation even necessary? Do any of you on the Level 50 channel find it helpful to know that I'm starting the team in Guardian? Or do you just assume that the team is on Guardian?

  17. Congratulations on another Level 50 character!

Quite a few people have already chimed in on this one, but here is my two cents:

Before CoX goes “free to play”, NCSoft will need to first determine that any business model will no longer yield any profit. As many have already stated…a lot of “free to play games” have hidden avenues of profit generation, usually in the form of an obscenely powerful object/power that you can buy. So yes, you can “play the game for free”, but if you want to advance your character quickly, you need to spend real money. My friends for example will spend $30-50 a month for Perfect World Zen so they can buy needed armor and weapon upgrades.

And unless NCSoft wants to maintain servers for existing subscribers for free, I'm certain they will need to find someone else to maintain servers to run the game on, which means (as some have already written), less servers overall, no updates, propably community forum based tech support.

I look at the monthly subscription as mostly my fee for accessing software upgrades, for server maintenance, and for the occasional technical support. And I'm glad I don't have to pay for each new issue as it comes out. And I really hope that CoX doesn't go the way of Hellgate: London, which is pretty much dead now.

This is not to say, I won't mind discounting the subscription costs in the future. lol.
  19. Good luck Mr. Ocho in your new endeavors.

Although we won't be seeing you on an official capacity, hopefully we will still have an opportunity to run into you as a regular player.

As someone once told me...Change is a good thing, especially if it involves your underwear on a daily basis. =D

Thanks for your hard work and dedication. As all the posts above have shown, you have definitely made a difference in the user community. We hope that you will do so in your next project.
  20. Happy Birthday!

Wait...did Shadow just give you a cake with bacon and mashed potatoes?
  21. I blame/ban Shadow for having a great, long lasting super group.

    Seriously though...congratulations!
