And people who aren't willing to pay above the arbitragers's price floor? They'll have to get it from merits, or else won't get their shinies until they change their mind.

Right, people will, when faced with absurd prices, tell the flippers to go do something biologically impossible and get what they want from merits.

I'm sure our cafeteria capitalists won't mind a little competition.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Strong hatred is in this one.

Soon he will turn to the darkside ?

Seriously You think 120 million inf is absurd compared to running 5 positrons ?

I bet there are people that would gladly part with a lotg if they could have gotten TF commander without positron.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Umm...

The most I've ever had at one time is 15 million and that is only because I managed to luck out and get a knockback protection IO.

Not everyone runs around with gobs of influance. Not everyone can use the market to any degree.

With a slight side note. Task Forces thus far have only sucked for me when I was on bad teams. I'm not just talking bad as in can't work together, I'm talking bad as in computerized drones have more personality.

My ideal worst team ever is the team that makes everything trivial but the only conversation you will get out of them is the preset 'ready'.

I am honestly driven to log out and just stop playing for a while when I get teams like that. Oh yeah, mission being rolled over like it's nothing but it so dang boring it kills any value it could have had. But hey personal opinion and all that.
  2. [ QUOTE ]

This is the pretty simple truth of the matter. Instead of trying to make the old TFs appealing to play by making them fun, they try to bribe us into playing them. I'm sorry, but you can't bribe me enough to bother with a Citadel or Positron TF. Those are pure tedium. I play the game to have fun.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Has anyone actualy considered starting an unofficial/official Task/Strike Force Issues topic?

When you are the creator of something, it's not easy to grasp what the problem is because you tend to enjoy what you created.

Get some kind if list going as to what's wrong with the Task/Strike Forces pointing out what's so unfun about them or bogging down the entertainment value. Time is apparently valuable and they have to spend alot of it figuring out new stuff and little working the old. Give a focus and you cut down the time needed to figure out what the problem is. The cure to the problem may be harder to fix though because not everything has a simple solution. Or the preceeved simple solution is not as easy as one would think.

Don't like defeat all's... well getting rid of them may not be the solution as it fits with the goal of the story line. Maybe put in greater threats then just the mob(s) in question like special Elite Bosses you can only see during that taskforce or specificly that/those missions of the taskforce roaming with the packs.

'It's boring, fix it' doesn't really give alot of ideas and taking certian things away may defeat the purpose they had.

Unless it's changed and I missed the patch notes, GMs already give 2 Merits each.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    I must hve missed it.
That still leaves AVs and HEROES.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, he did say they can't do that due to making them farmer bait. Rough translation anyway.

At the moment, I'm assuming they can't fraction merit rewards that are given on the spot just yet. They have the programing for Taskforce/Trials that will alter the end reward. It was kind of already there, so no big programing changes. No idea how other reward codes work but in the case of merits as programed for Giant Monsters, applying it to AV/Heroes and placeing a diminishing return on the reward to lessen the farming of them might not work without entirely new programing.

    [ QUOTE ]
What isn't subjective is that I'm not the one assigning a value to people's time - the devs are. And the value they've assigned to your time isn't subjective either.

5 minutes of taskforce time, or 12.5 minutes of storyarc time, are worth 1 merit. 1 merit is worth 1/20th for a random pool C drop or 1/200th of a specific pool C drop. 100 minutes of your time is worth a random pool C drop; 1000 minutes is worth a specific pool C drop.

I didn't make that up and tell you what your time was supposed to be worth, the devs did

[/ QUOTE ]...see...now, you're completely skewing things out into left field. Did you miss the part where I said I play this game for fun? I've got a LGTF scheduled for tomorrow night...and we're going to have fun playing it. Sure, there are people out there that can run it in 30 minutes, or whatever the "speed" time is...but we're going to take our time, and have a whole lot of fun playing it.

That's what my time is worth. Fun. And the devs didn't have a single thing to say in that.

    [ QUOTE ]
Sorry to break it to you, too, but your fun also doesn't seem to matter to the devs' decision on what your time is worth because they've given the most merits to what are broadly considered the least fun tasks (positron; doctor Q; long, 4-year-old multi-zone travel storyarcs with multiple delivery or hunt missions). And they've given much less merits to taskforces and storyarcs which are newer, hailed as more fun (the ITF, katie, the STF, all of the villain ones), and even more difficult to successfully accomplish (especially the LRSF and STF).

[/ QUOTE ]You're under the presumtion that everyone cares about getting the most possible merits for every second they play. That's completely and totally wrong. Merits will be a nice side benefit...but I'll play what I have fun with. I like Posi. I'll play it because it's one I can play with just my boyfriend, with very little hassle. And we'll have fun doing it.

Or...no...wait. We won't...because you don't think it's possible for us to be able to.

    [ QUOTE ]
The fact that you don't think the optimal path is fun, doesn't change the fact that it's optimal.

[/ QUOTE ]I never said that.

What's "worth it" to people isn't always the optimal path.

Is buying cheap salvage at Wenty's for 1000 just so I can be sure to have it without having to rebid worth it? To some people, it's a waste of money. But to me, it's worth it just to be able to get on with whatever it is I'm doing.

Just as it'll be worth it to take the random rolls, albeit for a completely different reason.

    [ QUOTE ]
"Have fun" in six months when a relatively small group of people who do what I'm describing have made it nearly impossible for you to actually achieve merits at the developer-decided rate of one per five minutes.

[/ QUOTE ]I will. I'll be having fun playing the same game I've been playing for the past two years. I had fun before IOs. I ran TFs before IOs. Even if they completely stripped IOs from the game, the game would still be fun.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe you can find a decent way to phrase a question I could never find the right way to ask.

Can you say you hold the same value of a game when you reduce it to a frigle thread?
  5. Ask Agent Ruby: Everyone has some horror story be it lousy teaming experance or an 'oops' personal moment. Can you think of one of your own that you could share?
  6. This is a question out of my personal curiosity.
I don't know if you can share this information or not.

I don't know how long a datamine time frame is but assuming it's a month long recording.

Just how many times is *specific taskforce/strikeforce* being run?

It's mainly a curiosity just to how large a number is being used in devision of the times to get the average.

And to see if Katy(sp?) and Eden are over 9000. >_>

Err I mean, how much more the quicker are being run over the slower. I would expect a larger number like anyone but right now its a question of HOW much larger.
  7. You know... if a developer for hero side suddenly pops up claiming that evil shall never triump over the forces of good followed up with some classic heroic pose picture. I just may laugh.
  8. [ QUOTE ]

As a casual, how fast is your AVG Eden trial?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Hmm well right now... 15 minutes but that was because after the first wipe at the first wall everyone quit *wusses >_<* and I've never gotten another chance at the trial since. I really wanna run that thing but need to get another character that high again first.

    [ QUOTE ]
    How about a KTF?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Umm... I think that took an hour more or less. Then again, only done this once as well.
Happly, it was successful though .

    [ QUOTE ]
2 trials regular players don't speed through now don't get enough reward to buy a common SO. Each of the said TF's have numerious AV's you have to defeat to complete. But not worth a common SO.

You know what'll happen when the powergamers and farmer turn there attation to other tfs?

    [/ QUOTE ]

They will do them, they get altered if they can or reward lowered until they can alter it to bring it back up or it just stays lowered.

    [ QUOTE ]
Granted, i also don't belive "loot" is the be all end of all of this game, but without any reward, what's your modivation to run content AGAIN you've already ran a DOZEN times?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I like it.

It's been a long time since I've done the respec task force, I need to see if I can get on a team for one.

Over the course of having and playing this game.

I've done a failed Eden. Just one, never had another chance.

    Positron... 6 times.
Synapsisesad? (yep, can't remember how to spell that ) 4 times
Doc Q... one mission of it.
    Sister Psyche twice.
    Manticore three times.
    Kathy? (sp?) once.
Hollows Trial once got to then end with seven people only to realize we couldn't do it with seven people. (lousy no good quitting >_<. that sucked)

Respec 9 times, 2 times, and never.

With Villians, did the circle guy's task force once and their respec force once.

Yeah... the date I signed up to the forums is a month give or take a few days after I got the game. I may have missed a couple but those I listed are the guessed total number of times I've run task forces or trials. All the other time I have been consantly making, deleting and playing multiple characters on this game. Playing home system, got into a good series of books, played some other game, played this game. Wash, rinse, repeat.

My next goal if I can actualy focus enough to do it is get a villian to 50. Thus my second 50 will be created.

    1 50 Hero, 1 50 Villian

Then I can get fake spider legs attached to my back.
  9. Hmm... what's Numina's Unique?

As a casual gamer, why would I only run Positron?

I'm a casual gamer, if I really want that unique, then I will just be saving to get it but it won't become the central focus of my life.

I like this game because I don't have to have the absolute best stuff to be able do some of the harder/cooler content.

I like WoW as well as this game but with WoW, I know I will never get to do the super dungeons because I'm just not dead set on collecting 'uber' gear.

I HATE Final Fantasy XI because EVERYTHING is completely set on the stuff you have and if you don't have it, you 'ARE' dead.

Say I can run Positron... twice a week because of a 3/4 hour peirod of time, all the other time is generaly an hour to 90 minutes a day.

How long would it take me to get 250 merits considering that in all that other time I would be playing the rest of the game?

And I'm serious, what is Numina's Unique?
  10. O_o'

Umm... How many Task Forces and Trials are there for Heroes?

How many of them can you run in a day? (play session)

Casually, the system is decent because the few IO's I want for certian characters don't look to be border line impossible for me to get any more.

Casual Min/Maxer is in trouble because apparently IO's are their life blood.

Speed Runners will spread out over multiple Taskforces instead of running just the fastest easiest ones to complete.

The casual teaming as concerning Story Arcs only partly concerns me. I'm still not on the level of all humans are scum and will only do their own stuff and would expect that if this works for people to start doing the contacts again to get the story arcs started, those people doing the same arcs will be looking to work with each other. The selfish, greedy, impa... (unwilling to wait) will more then likely solo or rope people to do just their stuff but not all humans need to be shot.

This is just personal opinion as always but when the loot becomes the most important thing, you have already stopped caring about the game.
  11. May your sanity remain in tact long enough to deep fry people who tick you off.

    Welcome to the forums.
  12. I would like to say welcome and wish you the greatest of luck dealing with the demanding souls that visit these forums and the game. Beyound that, I hope to one day get see your 'heroic form' in action. As long as I'm not on the recieving end.
  13. Hmm...

Well there is also the team recall, the two staffs, the axe and sands of mu. Minor advantages, SG Base teleport, and now the actual helpful pets.

Then there is the sprints and useless pets.

Costume peices arn't really a small part of this game. After all, how much time did you spend creating your hero(es) and Villians?

I guess I shall mark it as a side note but for me personaly. If it wasn't for the creation system that allows me to see many of my character ideas directly. I would not have made it to the three year mark much less beyound it.

We've recently gotten Dual Blades and Will Power and honestly... While intresting to me as it concern creation and character ideas.... beyound that... I have no intrest in playing.

It's wierd with me. When it comes to games and not playing them, it's because I don't feel like it, have something else holding my attention, or it doesn't intrest me.

I got one person to 50. A long term goal. Over the path and multiple characters I found I lost intrest in the story lines at level 30. The faultline is the only one I enjoyed. Mind you I did go to the Warzone when it was released but the story line there just didn't enjoy. By level 34, which has appened on more then just that one character, playing even on teams felt mor like a chore.

I'm just basicly waiting at this point to see if anything is done that resparks an intrest beyound just making characters to not use.

    Free Respec & Costume Tokens = Rewards/Gifts

    Costume Peices & Perma-Temp Powers & Base Decorations = Incentive/Bribe

If you need incentives to keep people playing, it is time to re-evaluate your game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They are rewards not bribes or incentives. If they work as bribes or incentives for some people that does not mean that is the intention of them.

I take them as a reward for being a long term loyal customer.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Acts preformed witht he best of intentions can offten have the worst consiquances.

That would read so much better if I could spell half of that properly.

I wanna make an Boxer, how do I get the gloves?

Wait about Three.... three and a quarter years.

    ...

    ...

Limiting options, making someone have to stay to get certian things even if they are only cosmetic doesn't sound like a reward.

    *Insert shrug here*

I'm a critic... and I'm criticizing what has been writen.

Even some of the most unrealistic things I've read held some form of logic.

I have no problem with _nelz0r's, I'm waiting for the third part.

I only had minor questions concerning them...

It's just the other two things that were posted that hit my irk buttons. Because unlike _nelz0r's, they didn't strike as good ole entertaining reading, they struck more as '"you suck" in long form.

I play and enjoy playing both games. I like to read.... Fanfictions provide even more reading when it's not one of my books. I've seen several fanfiction crossover fights between rival games writen by writers that favor one over the other. I've seen them writen for the sake of humor and they were good. They never came gave off that 'you suck' vibe...

But meh.... I will say no more. This is driving the irritation up and if it ends up too high I'm gonna miss seeing what _nelz0r does next.

What can I say, I like to read and take it fairly seriously. Heck, even stories done in complete fun with massive amounts of 'this would never happen' material does so in a mannor that is even slightly beleivable or funny. _nelz0r struck as one and/or the other. The other stories... ... ... blah...
  20. Azerrath

    WoW vs CoX RP

    O_o Never done Mothership Raids

    Or Hamidon...

Or any of the level 45+ Taskforces...

You take damage and hp, odds are you have to take everything else between two diffrent games. and normalize them so theya re equal... you end up with yet another game at which point there would be no slaughter fest. Tough fights maybe but no slaughter because by allr ights one would be just as strong as the other even if a bit diffrent.

Flying heroes and villians would be assulted by spells and ranged weapons.
Resistance and Defense would be nothing more then high armor in that regard. One side gaining armor strenght natural through leveling, the other side gaining armor/resistance through finding peices of armor, armor sets, etc... etc..

If you are gonna make a story out of two worlds, then game numbers like hp and what not mean nill and its down to what the reality of alot of powers andthings would be.

Fliers will still be in range of magic and bullets.... arrows I'm not so sure of.
Invulnerability would do that, make them invulnerable meaning the best chance to fight would require magic of some sort be it getting help from various spell casters or heavly enchanted weapons. Unless some of the stalkers had the power to litteraly become invisible, they would be doing the same thing as rogues, sneaking around in the midst of battle drawing so little attention to theirselves that when they struck a victum, said victum would honestly question how they got so close without being noticed.

If any of the hero/villian types were demonic then it would be a battle of wills as Warlocks that knew the incantations would possibly try to enslave them. Another battle of wills would involve Succubi under the control of the Warlock trying to use their demonic charms to turn selected targets into a mindless drooling idiot untill someone or something snaps them out of it.

    In a game, Numbers rule

In a story, reality and interperation of power rule.

In a game, everyone can fight everyone without reason.

In a story, Few may fight for no reason at but many must have a reason because not everone is a mindless creature out for blood.

Soo.... is this a game or a story people are trying to write?
  21. Azerrath

    . . .

    1. Why are they fighting...

    2. How did they get there...

    3. What promoted Alliance and Horde to work together?

    4. What promoted Heroes and Villians to work together?

    5. ... Just how far away do you have to be to out range bullets and various magics?

I like to read, I like a good story. OP's look to have potential. The others... just strike me as a massive 'I hate WoW' rant...
  22. Azerrath

    WoW vs CoX RP

    Hmm?

Alright then... in the world of Paragon and the Rogue Isles..... what 'is' invulnerabilty?

What makes that hero/villian so special that they earn having invulnerable attached to cards/files on their powers?

The goal is to match two diffrent worlds and pit them in combat.

Base the level of powers off numbers provided by a video game doesn't exactly inspire a reading worthy story.

At the same time, if you ignore numbers all together and examine how the powers theirselves work. Then you could end up with workable information to make ther person in question as strong or weak as you need them to be.

Writing a good readable story is alot harder then just sitting back and reading one.

Can you make it intresting without being unrealistic?

Will this be too over the top or withen the realm of reason?

A warrior won't be able to out muscle the superstrenght of a hero/villian and fighting the invuln would be like fighting someone in heavy armor or worse.

That seems reasonable in my mind.

Eather way, both would possibly be able to take a load of punishment.
  23. Azerrath

    WoW vs CoX RP

Umm... right... but how much do those numbers matter in an actual fight?

I'm not talking a fight between game and game but this guy and that guy.

    Realistic fight.

How well would the Warrior in all their armor and sword, I figure all enchanted by a multitude of magics as well as being extreamly well crafted be against the man who armorless, just shirt and pants can't be peirced by bullets and can lift well over a ton of weight and throw it.

That's the challenge you face in having one fight the other.

THat's alot of information to process ya know.

Closest I've seen to that just 'weakens' the healing amount by a set number.

Then again, I don't have anyone beyound 32, 33 yet.

My curiosity is just how many would it take to pose a threat to granite armor brutes/tankers.

Really, the only non-in-mass threats I can personaly think of to a Hero/villian belong with the spell casters.

Warlocks using Felhunter wipe out buffs and debuffs.
    Succubus charm human(noids)
Enslave Demon to control... well demonic heroes/villians
    Imp... is just annoying.
    Curses,Spells... etc.
The big summons tend to be just as dangerous to them as they are to everyone else. *big burnning rock monster*

Mage's got spells, lots of spells.
    Druid, Priest, Shaman.

Rogues would be possibly poisoning bigger targets if they can then sneeking after soft targets.

    Warriors... no idea...

Paladins.... well holy magic against the demons... and undead.

Hunters... ... hunters pets... I would think also go after the softer targets.

I for the life of me can't remember every class in the game.
