  2. No +4?! Shame on you! I would come, but unfortunately I'll be out of town to Holiday World in Indiana with the family. I can't guarantee we won't be out doing...whatever it is people do at that place, at that time on Friday. I'll bring my laptop along just in case, but I don't want to hold a spot from someone else.

If we could do one sooner than that, i'd definitely be game, and could bring scrapper/tanking brute/defender/controller as needed.
  3. Well, as far as "teams were talked about," all Tsu said was basically "I already have my team."

I know Phoebus Apollo and Ryujin will roll with my team, but you're more than welcome to join us, Heat! I'm still trying to decide who to bring: The full +3 fire/fire scrapper, the regular dark/dark troller, or my SS/Inv brute for tanking; I guess it depends on what our makeup is and if we have enough to race multiple teams.

Etc, etc, for Melee, Control and Support. However, none give a passive bonus to defense that's on at all times.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH. That makes more sense. "Everyone" being "all of my characters with a Build-Up type power."

Snark redacted from previous post. My apologies, good sir. Hope this doesn't jeopardize your participation in the ITF run this evening?

By contrast, most everyone who has Build Up has it in a tray where it can be activated by numpad6.

Speaking only for myself, give me the latter. Nothing to do with better-or-worse quantitatively, all about ease of use.

On my characters with a Build-Up type power, it's either in Tray 1 (as part of my attack chain) or in tray 2 slot 1 for a quick alt-1 activation.

I do agree with the "find the PANCAKING mouse pointer" being a HUGE issue, yes, but I fixed that problem on my dark/dark troller (for Tar Patch) by binding the power's slot to clicking my mouse wheel button. The targeting reticule is a LOT easier to see on the screen than the tiny pointer. I do the same thing with Hasten on my SS/INV brute (with Rage on auto).

  8. My Dark/Dark is 50 and has a slotted Spiritual Alpha...and then she got shelved for my SS/INV brute.

As for playstyle: Once I put damage procs in the AOE immob, it was night and day different. Between those, Haunt, and Lassie, I have plenty of damage to take on up to about +2s.

Basically, it's Immob > Fearsome Stare > Hold problem LTs > Immob > Ghoul on the boss, etc.

I frankenslotted Fade for DEF/Res/Recharge, so it's up pretty often, and went redside for the Soul PPP to help with end recovery and get a darkity dark AOE attack.

It's solid, quick, and a lot more fun than my Fire/Storm splatroller...but that may just be the procs.
  9. Just a reminder: This evening will be the first run of the CRAZY AWESOME +4 EPIC ITF RACE!

    Time: 8EST/7CST/5PST
    Location: Cimerora
Who: Your baddest 50, Incarnate, or whoever!
Prize (if we have enough participants to race multiple teams): Your choice of 10 million INF per team member [enough to fund a new lowbie with common IOs) or a crafted Unique of your choice (Stealth, Numina, Perf Shifter, etc.) Yeah, it's not much, but I'm poor.

Tsugaru says she's already got her team set up, who will join my team and take the crown and bragging rights for this week?

Hoot, indeed. Definitely one of the more...interestingly challenging TFs I've done lately. Truth be told, though, the Dr. Khan TF that we ran the other night was god-awful too. It took an hour to kill Reichsman, Liberteene (me) was tanking him (and the other AVs, two of which were Psi and kicked my butt), and we had ZERO -regen on the team. Every time we got him down to where he'd release another AV, he'd regen completely by the time we finished Vanessa and Co. MISERABLE, but we beat it, damnit.

I'd actually love to do a +4 LGTF and Miss Lib, too, see how the fancy Incarnates hold up against a 54 multi-AV fight.
  11. What it boils down to, ultimately, is this: (Also, grats on the badge! Hate to say we told you so.)

Other Game: Tank taunts, healer heals, DPS DPS's, enemy (single) dies.
Our game: Everybody does everything, everything dies.

Fundamental difference in the way the game is designed.

As someone once said in the defender forum: you have a primary set and a secondary set, not a primary set and an unnecessary set.

Yes, you can build a character that completely neglects one of their powersets but that doesn't make it a balanced character. the game is balanced around the idea that characters have two powersets and are using both of them. Power Pools exist to allow character to round out their build and take powers their AT can't otherwise have but they aren't intended as a replacement for actual powerset powers.

Speaking for myself I tend to think that if you can't find four powers that you like in each of your sets you should probably select different sets.
    I think you misunderstood me.

I, personally, do think someone who neglects either of their powersets (unintentionally or no) is silly.
  13. I can't think of one Defender primary powerset that has an attack, per se.

You're exactly right, if they want to slog through to level 50 with one attack (which we, on Pinnacle, did just recently with a brawl-only Tank), that's fine. If they want to PvP and lose every single match and they're okay with that, more power to them.

As far as the "go on iTrials where your shortcomings won't show as much," I (and I'd assume, most of the game's community) don't view completely ignoring an entire powerset as a "shortcoming." Underslot something? Sure, that's a shortcoming. What you're doing is so contrary to the spirit of the game it causes folks to have trouble understanding *why* you're doing it. Why you would intentionally sacrifice so many of your abilities to do something that, frankly, on a halfway well-built team isn't necessary.

Huzzah! Hope you're not a teetotaller, as we may or may not like to drink heavily. Welcome to Pinnacle! Be sure to join PinnBadges and introduce yourself. Also, our weekly schedule's something like this:

Sunday: Rikti Mothership Raid - Rikti War Zone (Levels 35+)
Monday: Monday Fight Nights (Zone PvP, Locations change every week)
Tuesday: "Really Hard Way" Magisterium Incarnate Trial runs (Level 50+3)
Wednesday: +4 CRAZY EPIC ITF runs (my event) (Levels 35+)
Thursday: "Really Hard Way" Magisterium Incarnate Trial runs (Level 50+3)
Fridays/Saturdays: Cathedral of Pain Trials, if we can get people out of the other iTrials.
  15. Bear with me, hyperbole ahead:

Would a tanker who took only his 1st attack be "wrong?" Would a Controller with Empathy as a secondary set who only took Heal Other be "wrong?"

The secondary set is, technically, completely optional. As are any powers, really, aside from the ones you're locked into at level 1/2. There are many "man" builds, brawl-only builds, etc. However, that mindset, however "independent and creative and I'LL DO WHAT I WANT" as it is, is severely limiting.

Defenders are not meant to be healer/debuff/buff only. If they were, they would be Buff/Buff, not Buff/Attack. Yes, your contributions to damage may be less than other teammates, but your debuff values on your attacks are the highest, and in the case of Energy Blast, well-placed knockback/down can be game-changingly amazing.

The forum community dislikes the "pure healer" empath because it's self-limiting. It's intentionally halving your effectiveness as a teammate, as a contributor, and as a player of the game as a whole. The game is designed such that no specific AT or powerset (or individual power, for that matter) is really NEEDED for anything. Certain other games are not. They require people whose only job in life is to put up green numbers, but that is not our game. That is not how we want our game to be.

It's not so much that your build is "wrong," necessarily, it's just that you don't seem to reconcile your limited capability as the reason you can't get this particular badge.

I'm all for concept, don't get me wrong. I have to be able to explain every powerset combo I make, which is why I don't have something crazy like Bots/Dark or something (which, yes, I understand EVERYTHING can have a concept explained, but I don't like to reach much.).

However, that being said, the point was already brought up: Our builds are right for receiving this badge. Yours (and your playstyle) is wrong. For this particular badge (and any other reward like it). Not wrong like smacking children is wrong, but wrong as in "you won't get it doing it the way you're doing it."

As for your concept, why is the one, lonely attack even in your tray at all? If this h3410rbot is so conceptually unable to cause harm to zombies/Nazis/ghosts/tech pirates/real pirates/killer mushrooms/aliens/ninjas/ninja aliens/demons, etc, why use it, EVER? Doesn't that little bit of concept-breaking justify having a little more usefulness on a team by having actual attacks?

Speaking of, if you join a TF or trial team, and see literally ANY other support AT, do you feel useless?

This. Emphasis added for, well, emphasis.
  19. *chuckle* Well, that serves me right for not double-checking. Still, though, I feel that this wouldn't be an issue for you if you had a so-called "proper" build, rather than a buffbot, so removing arguments about your build isn't really something we can do.

As for the actual question of why the badge isn't in the lower tier reward table...seems obvious to me that the badge is supposed to be earned through participation, like other iTrial rewards, rather than the (in case people AFK for the entire thing) significantly lower-reward tier.

For Aim...what, you don't even slot an ACC IO in your one, lonely, miserable little attack? Why even worry about it then? If you don't take Aim, you could take whatever the new tier 5 in Medicine will be, and then be double-plus secret redundant.

Saying it again, just in case it was missed.
  21. Aim?

    For one attack power?

Everything else in your "attack chain" is ally-focused and will auto-hit. Why do you have Aim, exactly?

    +4 ITF WILD WEDNESDAY!
    7pm CST (8pm EST, 5pm PST)
Bring your baddest-bad badass to Cimerora (or a competent sub-50, whatevs) and we'll show Romulus Augustus who's the boss of bossiness!

  25. Gah, that's right...I forgot about the RHW runs. Urm...

Wednesdays, then? I know Monday is Fight Night, Sunday's the RWZ Ship Raid, and I can't commit to a time Thurs-Sat.
